The most European inspired atmosphere and pastries in the desert. The food here so fresh, incredible, and the experience feels so different from other top desert restaurants. I started coming here and getting the breakfast panini which comes with fruit on the side, it tastes so fresh and leave feeling incredible. I swear you can just eat the desserts here and not even feel bloated the quality here is top top top notch. On the low key, famous people come in here and order up all of the pastries. The atmosphere is very family European top notch service where you feel like you could get the shirt off their back. Tables are very clean, they do a great job of Sanitizing without making it feel robotic. I couldn't recommend this place enough, it's absolutely a quiet desert gem that you will not be able to get enough of. Bought small bags of cookies, was charged $67.00 (more than a dollar per cookie) I thought it was a scam so I checked here on yelp and yep: scam! Just like other reviewers who were also overcharged. Bear in mind these were simple shortbread cookies, not a particularly precious recipe, and certainly did not rise to that pricing level. Additionally I watched the proprietor berate a customer ahead of me so I can confirm the rude service, at least the day I was there, is very real. I wont go back, and my hope is that at least a few others will read this before doing business there. read more

I have tried this place twice, once for lunch and once just for dessert. Only come here for lunch (reasonably priced). The desserts are too expensive, even if fresh made, it is a bit ridiculous. No prices for any of the desserts are listed and I believe this is purposeful as to not frighten you. We bout 2 (TWO) sugar Easter cookies (4-5 inches) and they tasted like they were baked last week for $10. If they are not embarrassed to charge such high prices, don't be shy to ask the price before you buy and walk away if you don't like the price. My sister and I went in the other day for iced coffee. It was really great. The owner heated up some oat milk and poured it on top of the ice and coffee. yummy. Here is the rub. The owner was very very rude and dismissive. Here we are the paying customers, yet we were afraid that we were going to make her angry. I was so excited when I saw this place on, but it was so disappointing. I love espresso and since my machine is currently out of commission, I was looking forward to having some good espresso again. But unfortunately, this was not it. The person making the lattes was not wearing a mask and had it hanging from her ear while talking to another customer not wearing a mask. The grossest thing was that she does not clean the steam wand on the espresso machine at all, which is disgusting. I couldn't even drink my latte after seeing that thick film on the steam wand full of dried on milks. For some place that is supposed to be high-quality European foods and coffee, I was entirely disappointed. The pastries looked amazing, but I didn't try one considering they are all out sitting without any protection from people at the register touching them and dust falling on them. Wanted to love this place the moment we walked in. Friendly owner, but that's probably not unusual, I mean who can promote YOUR business better? Quality of offerings (?).....excellent. I get that it's on El Paseo, but please, talk about taking advantage of "unsuspecting" people.....two single serve quiche, with a dab (like a tablespoon) of fruit, and 2 regular coffees...$38!....value has to be part of the equation. I was so happy to find this place. We were running errands on El Paseo when we saw Il Sogno. It was lunch time, so we gave it a try. I saw a couple sharing a basket of beautiful bread. I'm going back for that one. I got a cappuccino before we had decided to order lunch. It was okay; I don't think I'd order it again. I'm very picky about cappuccino. I got soup and 1/2 sandwich. The bf got salad and 1/2 sandwich. both sandwiches were made with great bread and quality ingredients. His ham was not just any ol' luncheon meat. The lentil soup was good, with lentils in a nice broth (not pureed as some lentil soups are). The pastries all looked gorgeous. I tried to order one to go, but there was a mix-up and our bill was delivered without it. I decided to skip it this time and come back for one. In another city I might skip Il Sogno and only give it 3 stars. But I have yet to find another cafe like it in the desert. It's got a comfortable-yet-cosmopolitan, big-city feel. read more

I would probably rate this place higher if I were a chick. I can see why people would give this place a high rating. It's cutesy and it brings back childhood memories of me playing with the toy tea set my mother bought me (I grew up very confused). Food wise, I think it's kind of pricey for what you get. Most of the menu items includes bread/carbs. I'm not sure about ya'll, but I like eggs, meat, and maybe pancakes/waffles for breakfast. If you plan on eating here, just be prepared to eat a plate of cold bread items. We also got some drinks, but there were a couple coffee drinks they couldn't make (pretty standard drinks). Service wise, it was lacking. There was 3 people working that day and for whatever reason, I could never flag them down. I think the servers actually prepare the plates, which is probably why I didn't see them much after we ordered. They also messed up our Yelp Deal and they tried to not allow it. It took a good 10 minutes of talking with the owner for them to accept it. This place isn't bad, it just wasn't for me. It's probably a good place for chicks to hang out and gossip. A little about my credentials: I first got into cooking & food when I was in college. After being rejected by numerous girls and getting zero action, I decided it was time for a change. I needed a new makeover to boost my geeky image. I applied for a cooking position at a Mediterranean-Italian Restaurant near my home and learned to cook all sorts of dishes. This is a delightful European experience which is rare.. one gets wonderful food and coffee that includes a bit of love.. this business stayed open when everything else was closed and kudos to the owner for that bit of sanity.. a place to see people and have some delicious coffee and food..I see that people are referencing price yet think nothing of paying the same for souless coffee at Starbucks. My personal favorites are the soups.. all dairy free and really wonderful served with what I call angel bread.. pastries a bit pricey yes .. but it's el Paseo ..treat yourself. Stumbled upon this cafe by accident because my group & I could not find another restaurant that was open. The cafe itself was well decorated with pastries along the countertop. The menu was not that diverse but it was a cafe so there were no expectations of getting gourmet restaurant food. My party ordered sandwiches which came with a small salad on the side. The sandwiches were good and tasty. We did get dessert afterwards which was good as well. The service was great! Our waitress Mira (whom I believe was the owner as well) was very sweet and would stop by frequently to our table.
