Definitely disappointed with this place. The waiter seemed super overwhelmed and they put grated parm on my bruschetta after I said no cheese twice. The waiter at one point said "I didn't get a chance to look if we have the wine you ordered. I don't have time to go into the basement right now". What?! It was crazy. I was even given my Prosecco in the bottle still because he was trying to "save the amount of glasses we have left". We went for the first time Christmas Eve not knowing what to expect. It's a typical unassuming pizzeria/restaurant. Everything was really good and the portions were very big. Our waiter couldn't have been nicer and we enjoyed everything. We're picky with baked clams and they didn't disappoint. Il Trio Restaurant in Smithtown, LI Hello Long Island! Hello Il Trio! First off, TU4 having GF food options. My very allergic sister is much appreciative. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by the sweetest waitress. There was also a window of lovely inviting pizzas. Can't go wrong with that first impression! I ordered a pizza Margherita & a glass of white wine At first bite, I was overwhelmed by the taste of the tomatoes... in a good way. They were sweet and bursting with vivid flavors brining the pizza to life. I had to find out what their tomatoes source was...after some back & forth Q&A w/the kitchen, I got my answer, Saporito tomatoes. I don't know if it's the pomodoro or the pizza sauce, but my guess is the Saporito pomodoro. The taste of the tomatoes& cheese left the pizza crust in the dust. Why? I think the dough needed more fermentation time. The bottom of the crust had an imprint (see photo) which tells me it's cooked on some sort of mesh pan, which is fine if you have a strong crust. If baked on a stone the charring of the crust probably would've enhanced the overall crust flavor. Il Trio wouldn't share their ingredients (kind of the norm), but listen up, dough has staple ingredients that don't really change and therefore it's NO real secret (flour, yeast, water, salt). The other variables involved are usually oil, sugar, semolina and perhaps the source of the yeast (whether they use a starter). Il Trio DOES NOT use oil & sugar, which is so keeping true to pizza's Napolitano origin and impressive. Wait for this, Il Trio sells fresh made dough! Yes, I bought some and took it home and granted the dough more time to rise and reach it's tasteful potential Future Instagram post to follow with that pizza adventure. We have been coming here for couple years now. We always order take out so I cannot give comprehensive review The pizza is pretty good for the area. At least everyone is always friendly and helpful unlike other places near by. The garlic knots are typical pizza place knots and the heroes are normally very good The best part is the good deals you can get during the week on Pies and heroes if you pay cash Currently $11 pie and $6.50 heroes One day will eat inside. Easy 5 star. The setting, atmosphere, service, and food are all A+. And the prices will not break you; reasonable. I had their signature dish, listed first under pastas (I never can remember what I ordered). It was chicken, spinach, a pink sauce, and rigatoni, I think. It was awesome, and a portion too large to finish. The wine was served in screw top bottles, which caused me to scowl internally. But it was good, so I'm okay with that. Glad I found this place. Went with parents and had a Great Italian dinner on a Sunday night. Salads was fresh. Bread was hot. But the most important aspect the entrees were plentiful , hot and delicious. I ate dinner here last night because the Yelp reviews were good! From the outside it looks like a hole in the wall pizza parlor, but inside they have a very nice dinning room, in addition to their walk up counter. I elected to have veal Marsala, which is one of my favorite dishes. It came with a side, my choice was pasta with marinara sauce. All in all it was very good, my veal, however, could have been served a little more hot, hot as in cooked hot. The meat was cooked properly, but it seemed as if it had been left on the counter to cool a bit. I didn't bother to say anything because it was still very good, and met my standards of NY Italian food! The atmosphere was very nice, the wine was good, and so was the food and service. read more

I have now been to this restaurant 3 times and I have really enjoyed their food each and every time. It is a quaint little Italian restaurant in a small shopping center. At first you don't expect much but I guarantee you will be pleasantly surprised! The restaurant gives you various breads at the beginning of the meal such as pizza bread, garlic bread and Italian bread. The menu is based mostly on pastas, so if you are a meat lover or do not enjoy pasta, this isn't the restaurant for you. My husband gets the lasagna every time and says it is delicious but lacks meat... maybe they should add a bit more. I get various types of pastas and they have all been delicious. Yikes ! . I went with my teenage son. We dine out a lot. It took 10 minutes to get someone to take our order. They never checked on us. My son ordered a pasta special with shrimp and scallops. They were mini shrimp and mini scallops and large thick asparagus and the sauce had no flavor. I had the chicken piccata chicken was dried out. The place was run down and dirty. And expensive! A little over a year later and it is now our go to Italian/Pizza joint. The pepper on the pizza issue is fixed! Maybe they read the review or had other complaints? One night I called for a hero, thinking it was within the time frame for the special $6.50 price, but I was mistaken. Instead of letting me hang up, he offered it to me as a one time courtesy. I LOVE their customer service. There are always diners on the weekends. That's because the other items on the menu are also very tasty. I've tried too many to list but my new favorite is Fusilli Il Trio. My only gripe? There's a young female that answers the phone who is always giggly. To the point that you feel like she's laughing at your special request or allergy concerns. I'm glad you're happy, but try to contain yourself a little when speaking to the customers. Unexpected gem. Do not judge this restaurant by its appearance or location. This is a neighborhood Italian restaurant with exceptional food and service. I ordered the Veal Scarpiello, tender pieces of veal with sausage, mushroom and red peppers in a delicious brown sauce linguine on the side. First time here with my family, it's a small place but very welcoming the minute you walk in the door. You may be thrown off by the pizza counter as you enter, but stick with it and you'll spot the dining area entrance on the left. Service was excellent from all of the very pleasant staff, who also made you feel comfortable the entire time. Food was excellent, plentiful and typically priced, meaning not over priced. The menu was varied enough without being overwhelming. I would definitely recommend this place and hope they have much continued success. Unfortunately they are located on a slightly busy street in a little strip mall so it's easy to miss. Worth the effort even if it means turning around because you sailed right past it. Their salads, lasagna, chicken cordon bleu, rice balls and chicken francais hero are just a few of my fave's! I got my man hooked on them too! If you are familiar with the Nesconset area then you know that there are pizzerias everywhere! The problem with this is it's hard to find consistency at any ONE of these places. UNTIL NOW! We had a family celebratory dinner at Il Trio last night and everything was perfect. The food is exceptional and always fresh (we've eaten here several times before). The staff is extremely attentive and helpful, which makes the dining experience that much better. It is also important to mention that the restaurant was very willing to take a large reservation at a prime time on a typically busy night. Was in the area for the Long Island LaxFest. Saw Il Trio restaurant on yelp and read a few of the reviews. We called and were able to get a reservation for 11 with no problem. All of the reviews were right...this place is AMAZING!! Really, really delicious. All 11 of us ordered different dishes and everything was great! I had the gnocchi pesto which was through the roof! It is located in a small strip mall and looks like a pizza place. Don't let the no frills location/decor fool you...definitely one of the best meals I've had a long time. If we come to this tournament again next year, we will definitely eat at Il Trio again. My only wish is that we lived closer read more

Been here a few times and have never been disappointed. When i go with someone unfamiliar with the restaurant they always wonder what they're walking in to. When you open the door it looks like nothing but a simple pizza place, to the left through another doorway is the actual restaurant. Not only was all the food fresh, tasty and plentiful, but the service was excellent. I doubt if you'll be disappointed other than if you blink you might miss it situated in a small strip mall. Tried this place as i got a gift certificate, have been passing it for a long time and never really thought of trying it. from the outside looks a little like a glorified pizzeria. half of it is just that the other half is a nice little place. nothing fancy and no good views, but it's a hidden little gem. staff is friendly and the food is excellent. prices are good, great little local spot. this is our second time here and wife and daughter love the carbonara. both my dishes were very good also. haven't ordered the pizza yet but looks promising. wife said why not 5 stars and for what this place is she has a point. read more
