Ordered 20 items for an office. Showed up on time and the food was hot. Their take out calamari was even crispy. They threw in free garlic knots and plenty of bread. Driver was extremely polite and showed up with utensils and plates. Great customer service. Really great food read more

Tried this place for takeout on a whim yesterday after my original birthday plans fell through and I wanted some good comfort Italian food- everything was amazing from the rice balls in vodka sauce with ricotta to the chicken parm & penne alla vodka combo- loved getting best of both worlds and not having to choose! Garlic knots were great too and customer service was too! A little kindness goes a long way especially in this time where many restaurants are struggling-- we will definitely be back soon! read more

We dined here on a Tuesday. We ordered the calamari for an appetizer. The calamari was just a bit over cooked and the sauce was just so-so. I had the chicken francese and it was just not very good. It had no taste. There was no seasoning on the chicken. Is it so hard for chefs to remember to season their food? With my dish came a side of pasta. I ordered my pasta to come with a "Fra Diavolo" sauce which I was assured they knew how to make. You know, sautéed garlic and red pepper flakes in olive oil?Then you throw in the marinara sauce. Well, if you've read any of my reviews concerning "far diavolo" sauce, you know that this is my litmus test to see if any "Italian chef" can cook. The food here is just ok. 3.5 out of 5. The red sauce is tangy, just not a fan or that. I like a good sweet sauce or a full bodied sauce. I didn't reheat my left overs which isn't a good sign. The penne ala vodka is just alright too it needed to have a fuller bodied flavor and not enough sauce. If you ever had penne ala vokda at Cafe Joelles in Sayville or at The Cooperage Inn out East you will know exactly what I mean. The chicken parm was just ok again, sauce is probably the culprit. I would rather go to Little Vinnies and get a dinner there if I'm staying local. read more

We came here for my son's birthday and found the food...rigatoni bolognese and spaghetti squash...to be delicious!!!

I don't know how this place has such great reviews. I went there once it was so bad that I never went back. I ordered a veal parm dinner for takeout. It was expensive and I got a single tiny cutlet with a spattering of sauce on a sprinkle of cheese on top. Pasta came on the side instead of baked in with it. The cutlet itself was okay. Nothing to write home about, but not bad. The pasta was WET. I mean it was like they boiled it up and then slapped it in a take-out tray without draining it. In an area with about 5 other Italian/Pizza places a mile from each other, this is last on my list. Sorry, but this place just doesn't compare to any of the other places nearby. read more

Absolute hidden gem. Food was creative, fresh and delicious. So many options it was difficult to choose. Found this place via Yelp since my grandmother lives in the area- it did not disappoint! The staff was knowledgeable and friendly- and best of all, they were enthusiastic and loved their employer. Our server Rob was very personable and a testament to how wonderfully this establishment is run. I look forward to adding this place to my regular spots- even though I live quite far away. Wines by the glass were great and affordable. The grilled chicken shrimp and veggies was awesome. ONLY reason it didn't get 5 stars is because I prefer eating in a bar type atmosphere and that is not available here. Great place I tried after using yelp to find a place nearby. Looked like a pizzeria in a strip mall but pleasantly surprised by service and food. Was so hungry I ate with my eyes. My wife and I used to love Tate's, the prior restaurant that occupied this location. I haven't lived around here for a few years, so I hadn't been to Tate's in awhile, and I was disappointed to see it had closed its doors. Still, I was eager to try Il Trio after my wife and I got annoyed by the 45-minute weekend waits at our usual weekend haunts closer to home. We showed up around 9 PM on a Saturday, and the parking lot was empty. Normally, this is a disconcerting sign for a restaurant, but Nesconset is a pretty sleepy town and most of the restaurants close down pretty early. I tried to check for online reviews before walking in the door, just in case, but the location of this restaurant at the foot of a hill makes the parking lot a cellular dead zone. We gulped and went inside. The atmosphere is very casual, like basically everything in Nesconset. The restaurant features a small pizza counter up front for the lunch and take-out crowds, with a separate larger dining area off to the side. Given our timing, I can't comment on the service or speed of either the frontend or the backend of Il Trio during a busy time, but everyone involved clearly understands how to do their jobs. The table service was down-to-earth, friendly, knowledgeable, and prompt, without being overbearing. They asked for our orders at exactly the right times and were on the ball with drink refills. The food came out of the kitchen really quickly and nobody was dawdling on account of the end-of-night slowdown. The menu is a combination of classic Italian favorites along with some more interesting and unique fare. (One of my biggest pet peeves with Italian restaurants: menus that consist entirely of dishes I can get at any other Italian restaurant. One of my wife's biggest pet peeves: too many unfamiliar dishes.) My wife opted for the veal parmigiana, and I grabbed a gnocchi dish with chicken, mushrooms, and sun-dried tomatoes in a pesto cream sauce. We split an order of bruschetta with fresh mozzarella. Our dessert was tartufo for the lady and cheesecake for myself. Bruschetta is almost by definition unremarkable, but the basil and red onions on these were unusually flavorful. I remarked on how there visually seemed to be almost no basil on it, but when we bit in, yeah, there it was. The chef clearly taste-tests their herbs for potency. Portion sizes are large. The veal parmigiana was cooked perfectly. Not very well, not really-really-close-to-perfectly, but completely perfectly. Good veal parmigiana shouldn't need a knife, but you could cut this with a plastic fork if you wanted. The gnocchi was kind of remarkable on its own; its texture was smooth and even, and it didn't possess any of the potato-dumpling graininess of the gnocchi at most other area Italian restaurants. The pesto cream sauce didn't overpower on the basil, cheese, or cream flavors; it complemented the ingredients in the dish instead of drowning them out. Bravo. I didn't stuff myself; I took probably 2/3 of the plate home so I had room for dessert. I didn't get to taste the tartufo because my wife doesn't share it. (This is a good sign.) But the cheesecake was excellent: not too dense like a Junior's cheesecake, and not too airy like a ricotta cheesecake, but right in the middle, complemented by the sweet tartness of a tiny amount of raspberry drizzle. Both desserts were around $4. They should charge more. Nobody would complain. We'll definitely be going back. read more

I ordered take-out from il Trio for the first time tonight- what an awesome surprise to get such an absolutely delicious and authentic Italian meal! The basics-like baked ziti- are like grandma used to make, and the specialty pasta (cavatelli w/ breaded chicken cutlet/peas) was deelish! The Greek salad was chopped and full of veggies/feta and came with a yummy dressing. Garlic knots were great, and even the warm bread was a treat. New restaurant where Tate's used to be. A family operation. Nice diverse menu. Dined there during their "soft opening" week. Service was efficient and pleasant. My husband and I stopped by to get some take out and also to have a slice of pizza while waiting (we did not call ahead). We both have been eating pizza now for over 40 years (I guess that gives away our age!), so we are pretty experienced in that area - for us it's all about the crust and the sauce, and these slices were excellent! Distinctive crust, not too salty (a problem in many pizzerias) and an excellent sauce, plus lots of cheese. Yummy! After the pizzas we could not wait to get home to try our take-out: the classics, chicken and eggplant parmigiano. Both were excellent. I look forward to coming to Il Trio for a sit-down meal; the restaurant looks very cozy (and clean) and the staff was very friendly and helpful even though we were just getting things to go. This is a neighborhood, mom and pop pizza shop with a busy dining room on the side. So busy, our entrees on a recent Sunday evening arrived well after those ordered by guests seated after us. The woman who works the dining room realized that and apologized and also took 10% off our tab. Nice gesture. So hungry that we gobbled down our food without thinking much of it, I do recall my Filet of Sole Francese as having an intensely flavored sauce with the fish cooked perfectly. I would've liked a bit larger portion. The food is above average for a place of this type and I'd probably give it another try if it was in my neighborhood. read more

Decided to try for first time, Never again. I order a hero that came to $9.75. I hand the girl my debit card, when she points to a small sign on the wall next to the register that says $10.00 minimum. I say really for $.25 you aren't going to take my card. She refuses and I ask her to talk to the manager. After waiting for almost 10 minuets, she comes back out from the kitchen, and says they will take it this one time, but never again no matter how much under $10.00 it is!! Wow. talk about customer service. The food--was blah. The sauce has no flavor, the chicken cutlets weren't the best either. Overall a very bad impression. There are too many other Italian restaurants in the area for this place to have such crappy customer service. read more

I have passed this place for years. It's very easy to miss. Very modest exterior. While yelping for pizza all indicators pointed here. I was intrigued. Went there one night with my girlfriend. Very quaint and charming. Family owned and operated. Food was awesome. A month later I noticed a sigh for $10 pizza. Gave in. Called and ordered one. SURPRISE!! Well, we did it again. My 97 year old aunt wanted to go gambling. So off to Jake's 58 for a little fun then to II Trio for another great dinner! This time only seven not seventeen like last time. The never ending bread basket did me in again, I couldn't finish my Rustica. I tried hard but it wasn't going to happen, lunch for tomorrow! There were no complaints about the spaghetti squash, shrimp scampi or any of the other meals. Big shout out to our servers Rob and Tormy, (hope I spelled it right), she remembered us from the last time! Great all around service with excellent food and atmosphere.
