Awesome spot on Broadway in DTLA nestled next to The Eastern and across the street from Orpheum Theater. Been here several times and tried lattes, a variety of coffee drinks and an assortment of their teas. Everything I've ever ordered I would do again. I'm way into great service and atmosphere too and this place has both. Friendly great staff and plenty of windows so if you choose to sit inside you will still get an eyeful of people watching. Outdoor seating too with tables lining Broadway. I give it a huge check it out! read more

Good coffee and lattes! It's never crowded and a great place to do a little work. It's across from umami burger and a bunch of new places that are popping up. They don't have syrup for lattes but don't really need it. The ambiance is nice. Def recommend going here!!! read more

The staff is a friendly guy - he was cool about me using the restroom without buying something (I bought something anyway to prove I wasn't a mooch. It helps that it was cold and dark - perfect time for Chai!) This place has fancy liquid soaps. It also shares the retail space with a place called Acne Studios, and no, Proactive is not available there. The Chai was ready within a minute! And the guy was very friendly and charming, almost flirtatious. I definitely would recommend this place to grab a snack or coffee at. read more

You wouldn't know it, but this Swedish coffee chain skipped New York and opened its first overseas location here in Downtown Los Angeles, and seemed to do a better job at capturing the feel of a relaxed SoCal space than some of our more domestic coffeeshops. A place to lay down (really, there is this long black upholstery indoor, and outdoor, you can laze about underneath tree-shaded parklet on Broadway itself). Big place, peppy Northern European music, great coffee and simple pastries. Wrap-around ceiling windows gives you some airy space to do some people watching. read more

Absolutely delicious. Popped in because it was right around the corner from my hotel I was staying on a recent business trip. By far the best macchiato I've ever had, complimented by simple but lovely avocado toast. Vibe is relaxed and not over trendy (per typical LA stereotypes). My home away from home which isn't very far from home because I live across the street. You can defiantly catch me here most mornings and often some afternoons. I work from home and often bring my computer or a book to get out of the house for a bit/work, I have meetings here, I catch up with friends here, I drink a Sunday mimosa here, and I grab a happy hour glass of wine here. Don't get me wrong I LOVE this place. Love the pastries, coffee (Oatly ftw!), sandwiches, the vibe and so on. The owner is super cool (Heja Sverige!) however the service from the hipster looking guy in a white shirt I received today left a bitter taste to my mouth. I placed my order of 2 coffees and he asked me if it's here or to go. I replied saying we'll be here but you can put them in to the to go cups. His response to me was simple "NO" while shaking his head. I ended up replying back "no? Okay." Irritated, when it was time to pay (different staff member) I asked 1 to go cup because I knew my hubby wasn't gonna drink all before leaving which happened. This staff member had no problem of me giving one, although I did notice the hipster guy eyeing on me. My hubbys cold brew didn't fill the whole cup but if this was the hipster guys worry he could've just simply tell me or pour the coffee from the glass to the cup. Because of his unwillingness I totally forgot to place an order of a sandwich meaning that the business lost money. :( The cherry on top, after hubby finished his sandwich, he wanted to leave. I refused to go and get a cup, so I sent him. He came back frustrated saying that the line was too long and none of the employees were really paying attention. So. Very nice and modern café with a slight hipster touch. The coffee is pretty good but unfortunately they don't have decaf espresso just French press which I found it strong but without too much flavor. Their iced regular americano has a nice flavor and combined with almond milk it is a powerful refreshing drink for the hot summer. They only have natural sugar which is a good thing but for the ones that can't have sugars at all there's no sweeteners. It has wifi and a nice retro ambience with odd music and cool staff. read more

Stopped by here during brunch time because it was close to Chase bank. I wanted iced espresso but saw that they had cold brew :O :O I would say it was good, stronger than coffee, lighter than espresso (in flavor, not effect). It was $4 and espressos were $3. I normally get two to three shots of espresso so I wasn't down for spending more than $5 on a coffee break. Service: The lady who helped me was friendly and not talkative. Atmosphere: Super casual atmosphere. Saw a range of people from having business meetings, to casual meetings, to people on their laptops working. The interior is modern and simple. Very charming and a nice place to sit & chat with the hustle and bustle. Price: More expensive than I would like but hey, it's a small coffee shop and not a chain. Also saw them prepare the paninis that are priced at $10+. It didn't seem gourmet or much. Come again? Yes but for their espresso, not food. I wouldn't get their cold brew again. The atmosphere is inviting, and everyone who works here is genuine and knowledgeable, as well as able and competent to have a conversation which many of the places in the area tend to lack. I skate past this place every day on Broadway on my way to work. The lattes are unbeatable and stumptown coffee is always a winner. I have yet to try the sandwiches... This place is super cute!! It feels like you're somewhere in Europe. I ordered the aged meat sandwich and they pressed it in the panini machine with a coffee. It was so good!!!! My friend ordered the tuna and capuchino, I had a bite of hers and loved it!!! It was not canned tuna for sure and they added capers; which I love with seafood. I love this place! Every time I visit DTLA I always end up coming to il caffe for lunch. The place has a good vibe and the workers are always very nice and welcoming. They have a nice selection of teas - the coconut tea I had most recently was my absolute favorite. Their sandwiches and paninis are incredible as well and a sizable portion.. I recommend the mozzarella tomato basil but I'm sure anything you order would be equally just as good. read more

Simple, clean, and pretty coffee shop literally right next door to Acne Studios on Broadway. The menu is seriously simple, just basic drinks- no frufru sugar beverages with weird nicknames haha. There is just something about Il Caffe...The modern, minimal yet cozy Swedish design, their panini breakfast special which is arguably the best deal in DTLA, the staff and regulars that are like a big extended family from all over the world. When you walk in you're greeted by a case filled with stacks of delicious Italian style sandwiches on crusty (bread lounge) bread, prosciutto, Parmesan, mozzarella and basil, jars of handmade spreads like pesto, tuna salad, artichoke, Ziggi's yogurts, and fresh juices. If you're in luck, there's some homemade Swedish cardamom and cinnamon buns left in the top corner of the case. The baristas are usually pretty busy, so pull out your favorite section from the LA Times on the counter and wait for eye contact. The owner is a friendly fixture in the cafe and familiar with every aspect of the downtown community, get to know him. Sit outside if you want some fresh air or share a cigarette with the locals, do some people watching, or park inside with your laptop and get some work done. You can stay as long as you like. At night you can find friends and neighbors inside enjoying a beer or a glass of wine and a flatbread pizza to start their evening. Very few places have earned my loyalty in Los Angeles the way that Il Caffe has. Im proud to call it my home away from home in this crazy city. read more

Vegan review: their hot oat milk latte is perfect; definitely among the best non-dairy lattes I've ever had. That with their avocado toast, which (for something that is notoriously basic on almost every menu) is also delicious, makes this the perfect quick spot for a perfect breakfast or coffee. Also, it's location between 9th and 8th on Broadway is fantastic and will likely become even more fantastic as more of the historic buildings are restored. read more
