Great coffee, cool spot and very friendly staff! I had a medium coffee black, stumptown brew, which was perfect. My wife couldn't get the mocha because it has dairy but the lady behind the counter recommended and iced latte and said "your going to love it" she made it perfect. I love that she went the extra mile to recommend something, great experience! Also, we sat outside at the tables and enjoyed the sounds of the city :) location is definitely a plus. read more

Wasn't going to review this place but the sandwich was sub par and actually cut the roof of my mouth and the fact that the guy taking my order literally ignored me once new folks walked in was annoying and rude. I just wanted to pay for my food grab food and go but had to wait on the guy to finish up chatting up 3 other customers and taking and completeing their orders first to just pay for my damn food. What a terrible experience! This spot could be really great. It's a nice space and the food and drinks are on the top end of decent. But the staff are so abysmally rude and dismissive that I end up wondering; "what on earth did I do to warrant this disdain?" They truly go out of their way to make me feel like scum. With lengthy dirty looks, ignoring me, and making me wait ten, fifteen, even twenty minutes for something as simple as a piece of toast or a coffee, they make it perfectly clear I am not welcome there. Last time I was there, a girl stopped in the middle of my order to take a call on her phone. She went and sat down in their little dining area and didn't return for almost ten minutes. (I started watching the clock after a few minutes at least.) This time the two folks behind the counter just stared at me snobbishly for a few moments as I asked if they were still open and if I could make an order. After a while (during which they literally looked at me and didn't respond to my questions at all) the guy who I'm fairly sure is the owner came out and said simply that they were closed (which is understandable since there are riots and whatnot going on at this time) and escorted me out dismissively. I asked what time they are closing these days, considering all that's going on downtown currently, to which he responded; "I don't know, maybe three?" I wouldn't be surprised if they're really cool with their regulars and such. But good lord! Why can't I get a coffee as well? I'm kind of cool, too! If you get to know me. Anyway, I'll never set foot in there again. And I'm sure they would be glad to hear that. read more

I love il caffe's comfortable and productive atmosphere. Great grapefruit juice fresh squeezed and sunptown coffee roasters Holler Mountain as the main drop. Avocado toast is a bit expensive but a good vegan eat. Bread is sliced thick and good quality. read more

Disappointing experience. Was looking for a local spot to help a friend with their website issues but most of the historic core's cafes close early. Was pleased to see this nearby location was near the Metro bicycle rack and was open until 9pm so chose to meet here at 7. Ordered at 710, by 730 the staff had started cleanup and at 8 we were asked to leave. Was confused because the cafe's site said 9. We asked the server but was met with a half hearted reply about it being Thanksgiving and that if there is only one or two people that they usually close early. It would have been helpful for them to explain that before purchasing our beverages and my colleague paying for parking at nearby lot instead of metered parking. Sympathetic to businesses that don't want to stay open late on a Monday before the holidays but disappointed at the lack of communication and waste of money on a pricey cafe beverage. Would not recommend stopping here if there are not many people as hours of operation may adjust accordingly to your value as a customer. Yummy hot cocoa but poor communication and lack of customer service. read more

AWFUL! Stopped in for a cup of coffee before a concert. The coffee was not fresh brewed, came out of a thermal pump caraffe, tasted old and burnt. When I asked the staff about it they shrugged and said it was only an hour old and should be find. Did not offer a refund or replacement. I would not recommend this place nor go back. read more

IlCaffe is a treasure among cafes in dtla located on Broadway down stairs from the historic Eastern Building across from the Orpheum Theater. The chic but welcoming Cafe is hosted by Michael Backlinder a Swede and renowned caterer to the Stars who has brought a taste of Sweden and created a welcoming atmosphere for Creatives and tourists alike. The assortment of coffee and organic teas are delicious. My favorite is the Earl Grey tea served with steamed Oatly a delicious substitute for milk from Sweden. read more

i'm from out of town and i had a hard time figuring out what i wanted to order. the guy behind the counter was very helpful. i told him i'm lactose intolerant and he asked me what kind of coffee i wanted and made something up for me that was absolutely delicious. also the croissant is so soft and buttery, melts in your mouth. i'll definitely be coming back here!! read more

Seriously. I just was in there. First of all the barista was swatting at bugs behind the counter then proceeds to kill one with his hands and takes my order before washing his hands. Then I order a decaf almond milk mocha. He rings me up and it comes to $11. I look at his iPad he is using to ring me up and he has charged me for three drinks...a decaf coffee, a mocha, a latte and almond milk. I tell him it's just one drink...a decaf mocha with almond milk. He then swipes around on the iPad and charges me for two drinks. I tell him it's ONE DRINK. Finally I give up, take my credit card out if his hand and walk out. This happened. I encourage the management of il caffe to look at the cameras and have a long chat with the line barista working there around 9 am on Saturday June 7, 2014. read more

Quite literally the most wonderful almond latte OTP. Warm, not boiled, just like in dear ole EUROPE!!! One of the other customers tried harshing my mellow by telling me almond milk was 'unsustainable', that one almond takes 40 gallons of water to grow. 'What do I care?' I said, 'Donald Trump is president. We're all doomed and I don't have kids to leave the planet to!' Come here and have the coffee and make sure the sweet guy, with the nice teeth, in the fisherman's beanie makes it. My breakfast companion had a fruit pastry: Delicious. While looking for a place to do some work, I stumbled upon this place. I initially was going to verve but left quickly because it was overcrowded! Ended up here and fell in love right away. I got the freshly squeezed grapefruit juice and my sister got the iced latte. There was two other people there and we were able to find seating. We were there for about two hours and did not feel pressured to leave or order anything else. Although I do wish I would've gotten a sandwich or a salad. This caffe has a very European feel, it very calm place despite the crazy downtown. I will defiantly choose this place over verve. read more

Doesn't look like much from the outside, but service is great, my double cap made to perfection and more surprisingly, sandwiches are soooooo tasty. You can actually buy a half too- get it toasted and melty! They usually only have two varieties a day to choose from after breakfast but I'd come here just for that! read more

The south end of Broadway has been such a weird dead spot for so long. Now finally with the Ace as somewhat of an anchor, it feels like it's buzzing with new energy. Il caffe is inside the new Acne Studios, but it's in a space of its own. The coffee is very good (I had a macchiato), and the food options remind me of being somewhere in Europe, with super simple but really delicious sandwiches on focaccia or what seemed like some sort of German rye bread. I had a prosciutto sandwich on rye, and it was perfect. Super friendly staff and overall mellow vibes. Free wifi. read more

So I pulled out my phone and Yelped the nearest cafe, and found this cool little place. It's a small little cafe that's easy to pass by if you're not looking for it. Cute little coffee shop I found in downtown. Very nice interior with lots of seating. I actually like that this place isn't packed with people. Nice and quiet place to study. I only got a to-go on cold brew so that's all I will talk about. My quick and short visit involved fast ordering; there were 2 baristas working at the time (Saturday afternoon). We had a short chat about how the day is going and all and I really liked that. It was really dark inside (black interior) and there weren't many people in the store. I got my cold brew and left fast. It was good and smooth just the way I like it. Only concern is that I don't know how long it has been since the brew was made since one of the pitcher's tape read "2/9/15" which meant the cold brew itself was about 5 days old since it was brewed. By far the best coffeeshop in Downtown Los Angeles. Delicious coffee, swell baristas, toasty paninis and pastries, as well as eclectic music. A great place to write on your laptop, without ever feeling rushed, and also to lounge out with a group of friends. Il Cafe isn't trying to be anything except for a coffeeshop. That's a breath of fresh air in a city where coffeeshops can sometimes feel like nightclubs. Defined by the owner, Michael, a Californian by way of Sweden, who brings European care to his role as the owner/host, Il Cafe is a little oasis. And what really makes Il Caffe special is the people that it attracts. There's also a rumor that John Lennon and Elvis Presley play here on the weekends; naked. First time to this place. I was yelping WiFi cafes in the area and this one was towards the top. I'm having a hot cocoa and toasted mozzarella pesto sandwich, both good. The music is much too loud to chill read study and get some computer work done. Also even though its gorgeous outside today weather wise, I can't stand having flies buzz around my food because of an open front door. And I'm all for pet friendly establishments but there should be a size limit. German Shepherds shouldn't be allowed to walk around inside :/ read more
