    Lamb burger (15.99)
    Victor G.

Illegal Burgers opened where Hang Ten once was. Mostly inside seating. Outside seating available but not setup. Wall decored with pics of edibles. Illegal's marketing means non traditional meats: Lamb, wagyu beef, CBO, brisket with non traditional styles: hot dog, garlic, mushrooms.... Offerings (halal): vegetarian, greek salad, burgers, gyro, shawarma wraps, Philly steak, rice plates, afghan kabab plates, desserts, drinks, sides & dips. Bites: lamb burger (15.99) undercover style. -ordered medium rare, pd, ready in 10ish minutes. -looked medium, no pink meat. Very tender, semi-juicy. -lamb meat grounded fresh daily on site. -thick piece of tomato, mucho lettuce added moisture. Red onions adds tartness. House aioli added savoriness. Generous ingredients makes burger 5 star worthy. Not sure of rest of menu. *small convenience fee for CC use.

Solid new burger joint at the Southland Mall in Hayward - we stopped by before attending a dance performance at Chabot College nearby. We stopped by around 5:30 pm before they got busy, and ordered an assortment of burgers and gyros. They're so new their fountain drink machine was not yet operational, and they didn't have bottled water (!!), so we settled on canned sodas as our beverage of last resort. The food took longer to prepare than expected, but boy was it delish! My illegal burger (lamb and beef patties) was juicy, tasty and humungous! I stole some curly fries from the missus, who was so busy enjoying her island burger (beef with pineapple), she didn't notice! Another hit!! The place is well organized and there are plenty of tables, all covered with a black and white "chessboard" checkered pattern. Bathrooms were clean. Parking was plentiful. Looking forward to my next visit - there are plenty of other delicious burgers I want to bite into!

Excellent service and ambiance. Freshly made rice plates and burgers. Lots of parking and restaurant is spacious and clean. Delicious and nutritious!

People had been hyping me up about this spot and it was a bit of a let down. It was a decent burger but nothing special. It was also pretty messy and fell apart half way through. I don't know if I'll try it again.

Saw this lil burger place on a fluke at Southland mall. Much to my satisfaction they had multiple burger options not just plain beef. I'm a sucker for a lamb burger which is why I stopped in. You never find lamb options in most normal Burger joints, and this one was all Halal. Prices were pretty standard for various burger options, they also had shwarma plates, gyros and Philly cheese option sandwiches. Everything was super fresh and very delicious. The quality of the burgers exceeded expectations. My fiancé and I were very pleased with our meal. It wasn't too heavy, considering the regular burger consisted of two patties! Not overly greasy or sapored with the flavor of beef what so ever. The shoe string fries were pretty good and we will be returning for more lamb option meals.

Easily the best burgers in the area, here's why- Variety- just look at the menu! Not only do they have a variety of fixings, they have a variety of patties! Quality- the food is GOOD. I almost skipped this place because a negative review said the burgers were "un-flavorful" until I saw the other negative review where the person said they drove AN HOUR to eat here because they used to eat at their Fremont location and were mad that the restaurant was closed... I figured that if someone was willing to drive an hour, I could drive ten minutes. My husband and I ordered their regular sized burger and fries, we were very happy with the portion! The fries and the bacon on our burgers were cooked PERFECTLY. The patties were FRESH, MOIST AND FLAVORFUL. The aioli dip was DELICIOUS. Value- their price is on par with the local spots and probably cheaper than the nearby specialty burger places. Service- the person who took our order, who I assume was the manager was very polite. He told us our food would be out in about ten minutes and in about ten minutes he brought our order to our table. After our meal, I approached him and told him how much my husband and I enjoyed the food, I also asked him what was up with him closing earlier than his posted hours. He kindly explained that he closes early when they sell out of meat. It would probably be a good idea to add "or until we sell out" to their posted hours. This business is currently in its "soft opening" phase, I hope the neighborhood can give them enough support to stay! I will definitely be back!

$20 kebab plate: -meat was dry -rice was not seasoned or flavorful -the sprigs of lettuce does not equal a salad

Undercover Burger: hefty burger for the price with double patty Onion rings: basic good onion rings, not overly battered Fries: i prefer thin cut fries so not too excited about them Kebab plate: quite disappointing. The platter was $20 where -meat was dry -rice was not seasoned / flavorful -advertised salad was couple sprigs of cut lettuce

Gourmet burgers at a reasonable price! Excellent variety of toppings options. Each style is included in the base price. We got their junior bacon cheese burger ($9) and their illegal burger regular ($13). The illegal burger had lamb gyros in addition to 2x 1/3lb patties. They hand grind their own meat. They have a CBD section of their menu with infused burger patties and sides. In addition to burgers, they have gyros, shawarmas, and plates. Service was great. Nice vibe and clean interiors. Support local businesses!

Good service and very juicy burgers. Reminds of of Beeps burgers when they were still in Hayward/Danville. Give them a try and enjoy :)

    Garlic burger was really tasty!

We had the purple-colored Ube Pancakes and the Khao Hom Waffle, which contained strips of fresh coconut meat, and both beautifully-plated dishes were topped with berries and syrup. I was an even bigger fan of the Thai side of the menu, starting with the Papaya Salad, a refreshing, crunchy mixture of shredded papaya, green beans, tomatoes, and crushed peanut in a spicy, sweet, acidic dressing made of fish sauce and lime. For our mains, the Northern Thai Khao Soi was a noodle soup made of egg noodles and chicken breast strips in a rich coconut curry, topped with crispy egg noodles, pickled cabbage, and fried shallots. From the Chef's Special menu, the Tom Yum Crab Omelet was a mound of jasmine rice enveloped with an egg omelet, topped with chunks of crab, mushrooms, and a creamy tom yum sauce; and my favorite dish was the Roti Gai Tod, a hearty combination of breaded chicken thigh, roti (a flaky flatbread), cucumber salad, jasmine rice, and a mild but flavorful yellow curry sauce on the side. Overall, everything we tried here was delicious, and the service was super quick and friendly too! It's hard to go wrong with anything on the extensive menu--what a great hidden gem of a restaurant in downtown Hayward!

Tom Yum Crab Omelette- the best one to get since it has creamy tom yum sauce, a soft omelette, drizzled with a slice of lime, and crab meat with a few mushroom slices on top of fluffy rice. Khao Hom Waffle- coconut pandan waffle with fruits and syrup on the side. I wish they replaced the syrup with coconut milk syrup for better flavor and used no coconut shreds as a topping. Ube Pancake (side order)- one thick ube pancake that turned out dry when eaten with syrup. Never order anything that is not Thai on the menu. They should add Thai Tea pancakes to their menu with housemade Thai Tea syrup to make it more fusion. Pad Kee Mao w/ Chicken- I regret ordering this because the string beans were half raw, the tofu was dry, and the dish was a bit spicy. I should've ordered Pad Thai or Ka-Pow Short Rib Benedict instead. Thai Tea- strong and sweet, not too watery. It was less crowded when we arrived at 10 am on the weekend. The waitresses were fast and efficient, and the restaurant was nice and spacious.

Place is spacious, lively, dimly lit with music playing at a level you can have a conversation. Table ordered a steak sandwich with salad, cheese sandwich with tomato soup and a five-spice pork ragu over polenta. We all enjoyed our dishes. Food is 3.5-4/5 stars and would like to see a bit more to keep it interesting but know their kitchen setup is limited. No wine with this visit. Dessert: Orange brownie was simple with orange zest and the Hawaiian bread pudding was different and flavorful. Good to see the place bustling and look forward to future rotating pop up events. Got a chance to talk to the owner, Stacey as I recognized her from the Eats by E event the week prior. My bad, didn't know she was the owner of Cordial Cellar & Lounge but all good as she was super welcoming, friendly and was very accommodating when asked if we could pay for our own dishes separately. At the end of the evening perused the Olive & Finn Boutique and quickly welcomed by Jackie who was explaining items like the handmade jewelry and some hand stitched clothing. Such cute items and will visit another time. Recommend Cordial Cellar & Lounge for a date night, special group outing or relax and listen to some music. The Ken Seideman Jazz Trio plays the month of February. Great jazz!
