This is a new spot at Southland Mall, located right next to Hobby Lobby -- it's outside the mall, not inside. Parking is super easy with plenty of space available. I tried the falafel wrap and really enjoyed it. The person at the counter was friendly and welcoming. There is indoor seating, though it's not a large space -- just the right size for a casual bite. I noticed they had CBD fries on the menu, which I didn't get to try this time -- but I'm definitely curious and looking forward to trying them next visit!

Illegal Burgers opened where Hang Ten once was. Mostly inside seating. Outside seating available but not setup. Wall decored with pics of edibles. Illegal's marketing means non traditional meats: Lamb, wagyu beef, CBO, brisket with non traditional styles: hot dog, garlic, mushrooms.... Offerings (halal): vegetarian, greek salad, burgers, gyro, shawarma wraps, Philly steak, rice plates, afghan kabab plates, desserts, drinks, sides & dips. Bites: lamb burger (15.99) undercover style. -ordered medium rare, pd, ready in 10ish minutes. -looked medium, no pink meat. Very tender, semi-juicy. -lamb meat grounded fresh daily on site. -thick piece of tomato, mucho lettuce added moisture. Red onions adds tartness. House aioli added savoriness. Generous ingredients makes burger 5 star worthy. Not sure of rest of menu. *small convenience fee for CC use.

Solid new burger joint at the Southland Mall in Hayward - we stopped by before attending a dance performance at Chabot College nearby. We stopped by around 5:30 pm before they got busy, and ordered an assortment of burgers and gyros. They're so new their fountain drink machine was not yet operational, and they didn't have bottled water (!!), so we settled on canned sodas as our beverage of last resort. The food took longer to prepare than expected, but boy was it delish! My illegal burger (lamb and beef patties) was juicy, tasty and humungous! I stole some curly fries from the missus, who was so busy enjoying her island burger (beef with pineapple), she didn't notice! Another hit!! The place is well organized and there are plenty of tables, all covered with a black and white "chessboard" checkered pattern. Bathrooms were clean. Parking was plentiful. Looking forward to my next visit - there are plenty of other delicious burgers I want to bite into!

Excellent service and ambiance. Freshly made rice plates and burgers. Lots of parking and restaurant is spacious and clean. Delicious and nutritious!

People had been hyping me up about this spot and it was a bit of a let down. It was a decent burger but nothing special. It was also pretty messy and fell apart half way through. I don't know if I'll try it again.

Saw this lil burger place on a fluke at Southland mall. Much to my satisfaction they had multiple burger options not just plain beef. I'm a sucker for a lamb burger which is why I stopped in. You never find lamb options in most normal Burger joints, and this one was all Halal. Prices were pretty standard for various burger options, they also had shwarma plates, gyros and Philly cheese option sandwiches. Everything was super fresh and very delicious. The quality of the burgers exceeded expectations. My fiancé and I were very pleased with our meal. It wasn't too heavy, considering the regular burger consisted of two patties! Not overly greasy or sapored with the flavor of beef what so ever. The shoe string fries were pretty good and we will be returning for more lamb option meals.

Easily the best burgers in the area, here's why- Variety- just look at the menu! Not only do they have a variety of fixings, they have a variety of patties! Quality- the food is GOOD. I almost skipped this place because a negative review said the burgers were "un-flavorful" until I saw the other negative review where the person said they drove AN HOUR to eat here because they used to eat at their Fremont location and were mad that the restaurant was closed... I figured that if someone was willing to drive an hour, I could drive ten minutes. My husband and I ordered their regular sized burger and fries, we were very happy with the portion! The fries and the bacon on our burgers were cooked PERFECTLY. The patties were FRESH, MOIST AND FLAVORFUL. The aioli dip was DELICIOUS. Value- their price is on par with the local spots and probably cheaper than the nearby specialty burger places. Service- the person who took our order, who I assume was the manager was very polite. He told us our food would be out in about ten minutes and in about ten minutes he brought our order to our table. After our meal, I approached him and told him how much my husband and I enjoyed the food, I also asked him what was up with him closing earlier than his posted hours. He kindly explained that he closes early when they sell out of meat. It would probably be a good idea to add "or until we sell out" to their posted hours. This business is currently in its "soft opening" phase, I hope the neighborhood can give them enough support to stay! I will definitely be back!

$20 kebab plate: -meat was dry -rice was not seasoned or flavorful -the sprigs of lettuce does not equal a salad

Undercover Burger: hefty burger for the price with double patty Onion rings: basic good onion rings, not overly battered Fries: i prefer thin cut fries so not too excited about them Kebab plate: quite disappointing. The platter was $20 where -meat was dry -rice was not seasoned / flavorful -advertised salad was couple sprigs of cut lettuce

Gourmet burgers at a reasonable price! Excellent variety of toppings options. Each style is included in the base price. We got their junior bacon cheese burger ($9) and their illegal burger regular ($13). The illegal burger had lamb gyros in addition to 2x 1/3lb patties. They hand grind their own meat. They have a CBD section of their menu with infused burger patties and sides. In addition to burgers, they have gyros, shawarmas, and plates. Service was great. Nice vibe and clean interiors. Support local businesses!

Good service and very juicy burgers. Reminds of of Beeps burgers when they were still in Hayward/Danville. Give them a try and enjoy :)

    Garlic burger was really tasty!

The restaurant itself is small and cute, but my mom and I were seated right away at around noonish on Sunday! That might have been because everyone was busy at world cup parties, though. We ordered: - thai iced teas - the khao hom waffle - samosas - roti with curry dip - koong karee The thai teas were unfortunately on the milky side, and weren't very strong tasting. I recommend the lychee iced tea instead! When I used to go, I always got the thai tea pancake but they have since removed it from their menu. Although this was a pretty devastating revelation, I went with their waffle instead. I thought that the waffle still super delicious, and I loved that it had coconut meat cooked into the batter. It comes garnished with fruit and coconut flakes, which was a plus. While I thought it was a delicious choice, I do not think it was a proper replacement for my thai tea pancake. The samosas and roti were both so delicious, flavorful, and savory. The portions aren't huge, but the flavors make up for it. The koong karee was the star of the show! The prawns were so well cooked, and came in the most delicious egg & curry sauce. I loved the vegetables that came in the dish, as well. You can't go wrong with the tiger prawns, and they go so well with some jasmine rice on the side. Overall, we keep coming back for good reason! The food is always so yummy, and I would definitely recommend you give this place a try. I hope they take this review as a plea for them to bring the thai tea pancake back, though! It was that good. Regardless, I will be back!

The fried rice is very tasty, the deep fried chicken can use a bit more flavoring but it's meant to be dipped in their sweet and source sauce. I wasn't a fan of the sweet and sour sauce, it's a bit on the sweet side. Overall, I would recommend and definitely returning. There's still many other GF options I've yet to try. Service is not bad, but not great either. The ambience is nice and clean.

Place is spacious, lively, dimly lit with music playing at a level you can have a conversation. Table ordered a steak sandwich with salad, cheese sandwich with tomato soup and a five-spice pork ragu over polenta. We all enjoyed our dishes. Food is 3.5-4/5 stars and would like to see a bit more to keep it interesting but know their kitchen setup is limited. No wine with this visit. Dessert: Orange brownie was simple with orange zest and the Hawaiian bread pudding was different and flavorful. Good to see the place bustling and look forward to future rotating pop up events. Got a chance to talk to the owner, Stacey as I recognized her from the Eats by E event the week prior. My bad, didn't know she was the owner of Cordial Cellar & Lounge but all good as she was super welcoming, friendly and was very accommodating when asked if we could pay for our own dishes separately. At the end of the evening perused the Olive & Finn Boutique and quickly welcomed by Jackie who was explaining items like the handmade jewelry and some hand stitched clothing. The food we ordered and the service we received (shoutout to Han) were superb. We sat outside since we had a doggo with us. When Han saw that we also had my toddler with us, she immediately brought out a coloring page, crayons, and water straw cup. I always appreciate places that think of the little ones! It was going to be a bit cramped to fit everything on one table so Han proactively suggested adding another table. Truly appreciate how attentive, thoughtful, and accommodating she was. For the 3.5 of us, we ordered 3 starters and 1 main. My girlfriends don't stuff themselves like I do, so we had plenty of food to share and bring home. First of all, definitely order the SMOKED BRISKET. I was shocked at how good this was. Haven't had brisket this good in a long time. The meat was so tender, flavorful, and had a perfect amount of fattiness to it. The baked beans, potato salad, and cornbread were all delicious too. I want to order this every time I go back now. The deviled eggs comes with 5. Love how the chili crunch and pickled cucumbers provide contrasting textures to the deviled eggs itself. All the ingredients and flavors really complemented each other. The garlic parmesan fries were yummy and come with your choice of sauce. And lastly, the hot artichoke and jalapeño dip comes with slices of sourdough baguette. I enjoyed this but wish they toasted the bread. Also, they have a wonderful selection of alcohol. I'm 6 weeks postpartum and breastfeeding so I sadly opted out of drinking this time around but looking forward to coming back and getting a cocktail to go along with the smoked brisket :P

While the food and drink options outperform your standard dive, the physical space itself leaves a bit to be desired. Patch The Vibe: I'm giving this place a 3-star rating primarily because the interior is looking a little rundown these days. The furniture and overall decor feel like they could really use a deep clean and a modern refresh to bring the energy back up. It's got potential, but it definitely feels a bit weathered. The Drinks & Food: Where Chaplin's actually shines is the menu. The Beer Selection: They have a really good choice of beers on tap and in bottles, making it an awesome spot for beer lovers who want options beyond just Bud Light. The Bar Food: The kitchen puts out bar grub that is honestly much better than most places around here. From their loaded fries and garlic noodles to their solid burger selection, the food is consistently tasty, comes out hot, and elevates the experience. Uber Eats The Verdict: If you can look past the slightly dated, worn-down environment, it's a perfectly fine spot for a casual bite and a great draft beer. A little TLC on the venue itself would easily bump this up to a 4-star spot for me.
