They've finally reopened, and we're glad they did. We ate here a few months ago and really enjoyed the wraps, so this time we came back specifically for the burgers. The space is nice--plenty of tables, good for groups, and lots of parking. It's located near Hobby Lobby at Southland Mall, in the old Hang 10 Boiler space. Today we tried the brisket burgers: * One Undercover style (classic cheeseburger) * One Streets style with cheese and mushrooms, and I added bacon The burgers are a bit messy, but in the best way. Very juicy, great flavor, and a solid size. Everything tasted fresh and made to order. My only knock on the burger itself is the bun--I'd love to see a higher-quality bun to really match the patty. Need to be a bit more sturdy. They offer a wide variety of meats and burger styles, from Stinky Mama (garlic-forward) to Islander (with pineapple). According to their website, all meats are HALAL, which is a nice bonus. The reason for the 4-star rating comes down to the fries. They were just okay and a little overcooked. I'd love to see chips as an option, and please--add pickles with the burgers. Overall, the experience was great, and we're happy they've reopened. We'll definitely be back. The regular is pretty filling with the two patties. This place is overall a burger gem. It's a perfect location because it's essentially attached to the mall with plenty to do if you're bringing others. The food was made fresh and was pretty quickly served. Solid new burger joint at the Southland Mall in Hayward - we stopped by before attending a dance performance at Chabot College nearby. We stopped by around 5:30 pm before they got busy, and ordered an assortment of burgers and gyros. They're so new their fountain drink machine was not yet operational, and they didn't have bottled water (!!), so we settled on canned sodas as our beverage of last resort. The food took longer to prepare than expected, but boy was it delish! My illegal burger (lamb and beef patties) was juicy, tasty and humungous! I stole some curly fries from the missus, who was so busy enjoying her island burger (beef with pineapple), she didn't notice! Another hit!! The place is well organized and there are plenty of tables, all covered with a black and white "chessboard" checkered pattern. Bathrooms were clean. Parking was plentiful. I'm saddened to say that I no longer recommend Illegal Burgers. After 3 failed attempts of trying to return to the establishment, during the posted hours of operations, the doors were locked and a sign was posted on the door stating they were sold out for the day, I was able to finally find the place up and running. The joy was short luved when the nice lady at the register could not figure out how to input our order on the tablet. After about 10 minutes the "cook" was called for help as it was just them two working. He was able to show her how to use the tablet while still wearing the gloves he was cooking with, and without changing out the gloves he proceeded to grab fries with the same hand by sticking the whole hand in the bag of frozen fries. He deopped a fry on the floor and pucked it up with the same hand again. He dis throw away the fallen fry in the trash but he never washed his hands or changed into new gloves. He kept cooking and touching the raw meat and buns with the contaminated gloves. We ended up canceling the order, since the lady was still trying to figure out how to charge my card, and I was fearful for my family to eat here. I hope this gets to the owner and they can correct this behavior. I went to illegal burgers and got a basic chicken wrap, I got it to go and asoon as I got to the car I realized the bag had a hole in it and was leaking sauce. Luckily I had a plastic grocery bag to put it in, when I got home I took out the wrap and it was drenched and soggy. Saw this lil burger place on a fluke at Southland mall. Much to my satisfaction they had multiple burger options not just plain beef. I'm a sucker for a lamb burger which is why I stopped in. You never find lamb options in most normal Burger joints, and this one was all Halal. Prices were pretty standard for various burger options, they also had shwarma plates, gyros and Philly cheese option sandwiches. Everything was super fresh and very delicious. The quality of the burgers exceeded expectations. My fiancé and I were very pleased with our meal. It wasn't too heavy, considering the regular burger consisted of two patties! I almost skipped this place because a negative review said the burgers were "un-flavorful" until I saw the other negative review where the person said they drove AN HOUR to eat here because they used to eat at their Fremont location and were mad that the restaurant was closed... I figured that if someone was willing to drive an hour, I could drive ten minutes. My husband and I ordered their regular sized burger and fries, we were very happy with the portion! The fries and the bacon on our burgers were cooked PERFECTLY. The patties were FRESH, MOIST AND FLAVORFUL. The aioli dip was DELICIOUS. Value- their price is on par with the local spots and probably cheaper than the nearby specialty burger places. Service- the person who took our order, who I assume was the manager was very polite. He told us our food would be out in about ten minutes and in about ten minutes he brought our order to our table. After our meal, I approached him and told him how much my husband and I enjoyed the food, I also asked him what was up with him closing earlier than his posted hours. We have a friend who only eats halal when we go out so it was nice to find a burger joint that was completely halal. I have tried a few things there including the Illegal Burger and Stinky Mama Garlic burger. They were both juicy, flavorful and huge! Their garlic sauce is so good too. I like the options of choosing the type of meat for your burgers and different sizes available. It's like you can always try something new there. Staff is very friendly and helpful, the atmosphere is clean and spacious, and the prices are reasonable considering the quality of the ingredients.
