Basic is the best way I can describe it. We all got Pad Thai: 2 chicken and 1 tofu delivered thru Uber eats. Both of the chicken dishes had a good amount of tofu mixed in, which we didn't ask for. There's also no option to choose your spice level on the app, so that was disappointing. And overall, it just felt like the Pad Thai was missing a lot. It was edible but I did doctor it up on my own, which I should never have to do. I'd probably never order from here again because there's much better options. read more

In my years long quest to find Thai barbecue chicken in Chicago made the way I remember it in Los Angeles, I had Immm Rice and Beyond on my list. It was not the same, and the quest continues. But it was a pretty great lunch. We had a couple of fried appetizers (basil chicken egg rolls and shrimp wontons). Neither was the slightest bit greasy, and both were delicious with a sweet and sour sauce. The basil chicken egg rolls had a good kick to it, and I want like seven more right now. Sticky rice was sticky enough that you could make historically enduring sculptures from it. It was awesome. And it made a great foil to the spiciest papaya salad I have ever had. The kind that makes your lips swell up a little bit. We could have had it milder, but we asked for it spicy. No regrets. If you never had papaya salad, do not imagine that it is anything like the orange colored papaya they sell in Mexican fruit markets. Asian papaya salad neither smells nor tastes like stinky feet. Don't be afraid. The main event was the gai yang. We split an order of half a Cornish game hen. Could have gotten a full one, but with the salad and appetizers, half was plenty. It was tender and flavorful, and we'll get it again for sure. The barbecue sauce was solid, even if it wasn't what I was looking for. The place was nearly empty for a late lunch, and we appreciated the wide open front window on a drizzly, humid afternoon. Immm is right next to Tank Noodle on Broadway. It's not as big, but if you prefer to patronize businesses that are NOT owned by people who tried to overthrow the government on January 6th, this is a better option in so many ways. Service was not only quick but helpful, relaxed, and friendly. Not the least bit seditious. If you want to expand beyond the usual pad Thai and noodle dishes that you've had everywhere by now, Immm is a great place to really stretch out your Thai food palate. read more

Electricity must cost an arm and a leg cause we were practically eating in the dark. Heard good things about the Khao Soi so I had to see how it squared up. It was just alright, very one node imo. Drumsticks were juicy, tender, and the best part of the dish. Next came the Pad Khee Mao which was the spiciest of the three. Soft wide rice noodles and a good mix of veggies. Solid dish, not much else. Finally, the Khao Moo Grob which was my favorite dish. The pork belly was very flavorful and super crispy. I came here on a weekend for dinner with a reservation and it wasn't very crowded, with a couple of other diners there. The vibes are very laid back-- the warm yellow lighting sets a chill mood. The space is decorated artistically, with a handwritten menu and illustrations lining the walls. The food was great-- authentic, delicious, and flavorful. Our group ordered the following dishes family-style (** = especially recommend): - Tom Yum Soup with Tofu: A bit small, but it had a good flavor profile-- sour and rich. - ** Tom Puu (papaya salad with preserved crab): The ingredients were fresh, the flavors were on point, and the crab added a nice fishy kick to the dish. We ordered spice level 2 and it was actually decently spicy! - Tom Puu Pla Rah (papaya salad with preserved crab and fish): This one tasted very similar to the Tom Puu! - ** Pad Thai with Tofu: Basic, but they make it extraordinarily well! The dish had amazing taste, flavor, and textures: the noodles were perfectly sticky and absolutely delicious. It was so good, we ordered 2 plates. - ** Gai Todd (Thai fried chicken): This dish had great flavor and was very crispy! The chicken on the inside was very tender and juicy. - ** Kao Soy: We ordered 2 of these-- one with chicken and one with beef. The chicken one was better in my opinion and also more classic. Overall, it's delicious! The curry flavors here are rich and strong and the noodles are cooked well. I wish it came with more soup though. - Pad Pak with Tofu: This was a solid vegetable dish to balance out the rest. It tasted fresh and crisp, and it was stir-fried well. Additionally, the service is above and beyond. We came with a large group to celebrate my friend's birthday, and they were very accommodating in moving tables together and providing attentive service throughout. At the end of our meal, they dimmed the restaurant lights and brought out a big plate of 10 complimentary Thai fried donuts (one of their dessert items) with candles. It's also good value for the portions and quality-- we ordered a ton of dishes family style and the total was under $20 per person. Overall, recommend this place for the food, value, and ambience. This is a solid Thai spot with unique food choices. The Soop Nor Mai (bamboo shoot salad) was tangy, sour, savory, and refreshing--a definite highlight. The Pad Prik Khing had a lovely spicy kick with a distinct kaffir lime flavor. Other dishes we tried, including the Chicken Satay, Khao Soi, and Kai Loog Kuey, were all solid. The interior is very vibrant, and there's a large outdoor patio. We visited the storefront and its adorable outdoor seating area on a food tour, and really enjoyed it. Service was quick - they had our food out to us in no time flat. We sampled the shrimp wontons and the fried chicken skin with sweet & sour sauce. Both were PHENOMENAL. Been wanting to try this place out for a while and it did not disappoint. They say comparison is the thief of joy but I can't help but compare it to a Chicago Thai staple in JJ street Thai. The boat noodle was a joke. Touted as a soup noodle with "slow braised beef," it had maybe 1 hardened chunk of sirloin in it (not slow cooked or braised) and then the rest was chock full of these low quality meatballs that are half filled with fillers. I order beef noodle soup from Vietnamese, Chinese and Thai restaurants pretty much 3-4 times a week. They all have their flavor profile variations but the broth and the meat has to be solid. Both the broth and the meat was lackluster in this instance. Small portions sizes for takeout too. I took one bite of the meat and ended up on Uber eats to find another place to get takeout from. read more

The service is great and well accommodating and the atmosphere of the restaurant is pretty awesome with its wall of Thai food. I was able to try some Thai dishes that I've never tried before (boat noodle). As well as savor some of the go to staples (the basil egg roll was surprisingly very good). We ordered chicken egg rolls 10/10 , khaw suey (9/10; spicy), and the classic chicken fried rice ( this isn't on the menu but, if you ask, my server pointed me to the right dish. Real, authentic Thai food. I've been to so many Thai restaurants in Chicago and this one is top. Everything in the restaurant tastes like what you would eat on the streets of Thailand. The restaurant prides itself on serving real Thai street food and it does. By far my favorite Thai food that I've had in the city! It's on the north side which is perfect for me but it can be a hike if you don't live in the area. The pork was most certainly crispy and very tasty, with the texture blending well with that of the soft rice. Definitely a winner. Pad Thai - Strong pad Thai offering no doubt. Every Thai restaurant stands upon this dish as it is this dish that is the benchmark for everything else. This one doesn't disappoint and I think it is worth getting. However, in my opinion, Immm offers so many other unique options that I feel like coming here only for the pad Thai is wasting the vast array of dishes that they offer. Honestly, I've struggled to find a lot of good Thai food in Chicago. My favorite so far is Pho's Spicier Thai on Lincoln in Lakeview, but other than that I haven't found many that are actually flavorful and know how to actually make my food spicy like I want it. I just moved to Uptown, and this place is about a 7-8 minute walk from my place, so I was happy to see this as an option near me. I found their menu online, and decide to go with a spicy Pad See Ew. I called them, and they said it'd be ready in 10-15 minutes. I got there, food was ready, and also liked the inside of this place. Would be a great future dine in spot for me, and apparently they are BYOB which is even better. I will say one thing... I saw that the Pad See Ew was $10.95 and to add beef it was $2. Not sure why, but my total came out to $16, and with my tip it became more, but I feel like they should update their prices online if that is not what the price is when you pay. I don't really complain in person about these things as it's literally just $2, but I wanted to warn anyone to be aware of this. read more

I had heard of this place for a while but hadn't had a chance to check it out until this past December (2019). I was down the street at Le Nocturne and after the club event, I decided to grab my dinner before they closed for the night. When I got here, it was about 10 minutes before closing time. The chairs were already put on the tables. From the looks of things, this restaurant seemed to be a counter service place were you order some food that was already prepared in buffet style trays behind the counter ala Panda Express and some made to order. The menu was on the blackboard. I had already looked it up in advance to know what I was going to get. Their menu has a good variety of dishes to whet your appetite, some really delicious looking/ sounding items and at reasonable prices for that matter. The first thing I asked was if they were still serving (if it was a carryout order) and whether they had the dish (KAO MOO DANG) available that I wanted to order. One of the employees' went into their kitchen to inquire and came back with a yes. Win! I was told to wait just about 10 minutes or so. In the meantime, I just browsed around the restaurant dine-in area. I liked some of the art design and other postings on their walls. The restaurant looked like a nice place to dine in. Next time, I hope to dine in and have a lot more food as the smell of the food was good. I received good service. As I mentioned, I took my food to go. I decided to eat that the next day for lunch. My dish had house-made barbecue pork, pan sauce, Goon Chiang sausage, Jasmine rice, hard boiled egg, and side of tangy Soy sauce. I had also asked for a side of their hot sauce. Even for having this dish the next day, after re-heating, it tasted damn good. It was quite flavorful. I liked how the sweet and spicy flavors mixed well together to give me maximum enjoyment of food. It was my first time at Immm and also the first time having Kao Moo Dang. I can't say I have seen this dish elsewhere before. I definitely recommend trying this dish and of course, checking out Immm. It's a nice little gem in the Uptown area of Chicago. read more

This place is EXCELLENT. My complaint with most Thai resturants is that there's a focus on the sauces and then there's the standard noodle dishes and some soups. This place is a little different . You can of course get the noodle dishes (pad Thai, see ew etc) but they also have a ton of dishes that focus around the cooking of meats with different seasonings. I had the Gai Yang Bang Tan, which is Cornish hen in Thai herbs and spices. I also got chicken gyuza, and an order of sticky rice (WHICH I LOVE). Everything was excellent the hen is half a bird for $10, which is a great value. The meat felt like it was a slightly lightly version of duck but slightly heavier than dark meat. SO FLAVORFUL. The service was also lovely. I was a bit lost as it was my first time here. The waitress helped me out, then came back saying that they were so sorry but the Gai Yang Bang Tan was out, which was understandable because they were nearing closing time. She runs back shortly after with the dish and says that I got the last one! So nice! Anyway check this place out definitely something different.
