There's a charming patio out front, if you want it. You can settle in for a long dinner, post up at the bar for the night, or grab a quick bite before heading out on the town. Bartenders are warm and approachable, and the in-house mixology is confident without any "we spent 30 hours perfecting this" pretense. The whole experience is like Sam Malone the bartender (save the drama) at Cheers: friendly, self-assured, the kind of place that makes you feel like you could spend all night there without anyone rushing you. We had a Paper Plane and an Old Fashioned -- the latter served over a custom ice cube stamped with a double ax (a nod to the wood fire). The cocktail list leans classic and reliable: if you know you like gin or vodka, you'll find something easy here. The espresso martini is the standout, it works as a dessert drink or any other time of the meal. We started with the Smorgasbord instead of our usual garlic knots (which are their own delicacy), and it didn't disappoint: toasted brioche with mascarpone and strawberry jam, several cured meats (capicola, prosciutto, pepperoni), parmesan, gouda, dried cherries, and chutney. My one nitpick; the pepperoni and gouda were tiny cubes, which makes them tough to grab cleanly compared to the sliced parmesan or rolled prosciutto. In this situation give the man a toothpick. The tallow-fried wings are, in my opinion, the best in St. Louis. The beef-tallow-and-potato-starch breading produces a tempura-like texture and crunch that keeps them light. Adventurous-but-classic sauces, bourbon butter BBQ, buffalo, and pineapple honey habanero (legitimately spicy; bring backup). The wings stand on their own without sauce. For pizza, we got the Napoli (tomato, fresh and smoked mozzarella, arugula, parmesan, black pepper, olive oil) -- her standing favorite. Expect proper Neapolitan: soft center, thin crust, charred crisp edge. Don't lift and bite fold it. (She insists: no fork. I use a fork - I know how dare I!) The pizza menu reads creative but never gimmicky; meat-lovers, vegetarians, vegans, and gluten-conscious diners all have real options. Before Kyle took over, Pizzeoli was known as a vegan-forward spot, and that flexibility lives on. We closed with the seasonal ice cream sandwich, fresh-pressed pizzelle wafers, crème brûlée ice cream, and a torched marshmallow cap. Excellent. A couple of practical notes: they're dinner-only (4-9:30) and the new reservation phone line is a robo call. Easier to use the online waitlist or book online directly. Pizzeoli is dressed-down-or-dressed-up friendly, kid-welcoming, and somehow works equally well for a pre-game stop or your dinner of the week. I've never had a bad dish here, and there are several I come back for specifically -- Lesley for the Napoli, me for the wings. 4.9 stars out of 5. If that toothpick shows up, a perfect 5. ;) Worth the trip across town, an hour drive for a long dinner, if it were open for lunch, the suggestion for two trips in one day would be welcomed or two-days in a row.

Parking is easy within a block or two. Outdoor, booth, and table seating is available. My husband had the gluten free pasta because it is also vegan, and no lie and true to form, it was delightful and light! The tomato sauce is Perfection: not too acidic, not too sweet, letting the grand yet humble tomato shine. I chose the puttanesca, one of my favorite traditional Italian pastas. I would order this again!! Had plenty for lunch the next day. Not to be left out: the toasted ravs and cannoli. I've had a few T-ravs since moving to StL, and these are excellent. The tomato sauce for dipping, once again, is a real treat. The cannolis? Precious, flaky, and dreamy. I ate one at our table and took the second bad boy home. FIRE.

While traveling through Missouri, my wife and I were looking for a place to have dinner. I searched…read moreYelp and came across Anthonino's. I also remembered seeing it featured on the Food Network's Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, so we figured it had to be worth a try. When we arrived, we were asked if we had a reservation. We didn't, but noticed a few open seats at the bar and asked if we could sit there instead. The two bartenders welcomed us right away and told us they would take good care of us throughout the evening. My wife ordered an iced tea, and I started with an Old Fashioned. For an appetizer, we ordered the Toasted Ravioli ($14), which is handmade in-house and filled with ground beef, ricotta, and pecorino romano cheese, served with marinara sauce. It's one of the dishes featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. For dinner, my wife ordered the Chicken Marsala ($23), and I went with the Bolognese ($17), made with veal, pork, red wine gravy, cresta di gallo pasta, stracciatella, and Calabrian chili oil. The toasted ravioli arrived looking great. I tried one without the sauce first. The fresh pasta didn't fry up quite the way I expected. It was more flaky than crispy, and I was hoping for a little more crunch. The filling was decent but could have used a bit more seasoning and flavor. The marinara sauce also had a bitterness to it that wasn't my favorite. When our entrées arrived, both dishes looked and smelled wonderful. Unfortunately, the flavors didn't quite live up to the presentation. My wife's Chicken Marsala had good flavor overall, but the side pasta was very gummy, and the sauce again had a bitter note that seemed to overpower the dish. My Bolognese was the biggest disappointment of the evening. When I think of Bolognese or a rich meat ragù, I usually expect a wider pasta such as pappardelle. The cresta di gallo pasta wasn't my favorite choice for the dish, and it also had a gummy texture. The sauce itself suffered from the same bitterness that we noticed throughout the meal. Looking back, I probably should have ordered the Carbonara once I realized the Bolognese wasn't being served with the type of pasta I was hoping for. Overall, the meal was okay, but it didn't quite meet the expectations we had after seeing the restaurant featured on television and reading the reviews. The service was excellent, and the bartenders did a fantastic job taking care of us. While this visit was a bit disappointing, there were plenty of other dishes on the menu that looked great, and I would be willing to give Anthonino's another try and order something different.

I'd say it's definitely a "sharing" spot, which I love, perfect for a group of friends, but also great for solo entrées since the portions work either way. So, it didn't take away too much from the experience. Overall, this place is a hidden gem. I was surprised it wasn't busier, considering how great the food and service were. Only one girl was working the floor, she did a great job, but sometimes the wait could be long. They have on draft cocktails which is nice, I can't imagine how long of a wait it would be if only one person worked the bar and the floor - making drinks! Inside is very clean and it was open seating. We got the GF cheesy bread and GF Big Mac pizza. The cheesy bread was our favorite, lots of Parmesan, came out really hot with great flavor. The GF dough was really good, you wouldn't know it was GF unless someone told you! The Big Mac pizza was good but I think pickles should be inside, and just the sauce and sesame seeds sprinkled on top with more cheese. The pickles should also be higher quality (in my opinion) but they're the exact same pickles as McDonald's so they're staying on theme. It was good but wasn't my favorite. We did enjoy it and liked that they are stuffed pizzas so it's very filling.

Super filling and flavorful. My friend got the smoked beet sandwich and you can really taste the smokiness and it was like a vegetarian BBQ. Another friend did the soup and sandwich combo and loved it. Our server was really sweet and forgot a couple things but honestly given how slammed they were I completely get it. The bread lives up to the hype. Definitely a must if you're in the area and want a really solid lunch.

I say that as someone who isn't vegan, who has had this pizza at parties, and who has watched the non-vegans eat all the vegan slices before the actual vegans got to them. That's not nothing. We had a slice of the dairy-cheese pie and a slice with the faux pepperoni with a couple friends. Both were satisfying: New York-style, structurally sound, full-flavored. The chocolate chip cookie at the counter is also worth tacking on. Worth flagging: you can get full pies or by the slice. That's a real asset if you don't want to be locked into committing to a whole pizza, or if you want to try two styles without ordering two pies. The vibe is the most interesting thing about the place. Pizza Head presents as punk: murals, checkered tile, a VHS-TV combo in the corner, 70s, 80s, and 90s punk rock blasting. But it's pop-punk pizza. The Blink-182 of vegan pizzerias. The aesthetic is Warped Tour; the operation is a welcoming neighborhood shop with compost signage. The most counter-cultural thing about Pizza Head is that the menu is entirely vegetarian/vegan, which is also the thing they're best at. That's not a knock. Running a vegan pizza place long enough to become an institution is its own kind of stubborn. And the pizza is likable enough that you can bring a group of mixed eaters and expect everyone to leave happy, which anyone who's fed a group with dietary restrictions knows is hard to pull off. The truth is this pizza would succeed under any theme. Strip the murals, swap the punk rock for smooth jazz, rename it Pizza Foot, and the slices still land. The Warped Tour dressing is fun, but it's incidental. Go out of your way for the pizza. It's not my favorite pizza in town, and my rubric for a 5 is whether I'd go back the same day, which I wouldn't here. But four stars is still a real recommendation: a reliable, friendly, group-proof slice that earns its reputation. What would move it up: one slice I'd cross town for. The current menu is reliable across the board, but nothing on it makes me think about it the next day. A weekly special, a sleeper combination, something that rewards the regulars and gives the rest of us a reason to come back the same day. Commit a little harder to the punk bit too; right now it's a costume the pizza doesn't need.
