(I checked many options before deciding) The day of the move they let us know 30 and 15 minutes before their arrival, when they got there they got directly to work and took good care of our furniture and everything they took, and checked with us each room to make sure they weren't leaving anything behind. I hired Impel movers based on the previous yelp reviews. Sad to say I was very disappointed with the service. I have used over 4-5 movers in the past 15 years and Impel movers were the SLOWEST among all of them. I never knew movers would be this slow. I don't know if other people posting here have hired other movers to know what quick means. Impel is anything but quick. Let me put things in perspective so it makes more sense. We moved 2 times in the past 3 years before this. We paid $640 and $660 for those moves including tips for all movers ($10/hr). Both these required 1 hour commute between origin and destination. Our current move had 3 min commute between between homes. So, we thought the total cost will come between $500-$600 including tips based on our previous experience. Boy was I wrong with Impel. It came to $940 without tips. Just plain ridiculous. Just to summarize why I am giving negative review. - Came late to appointment even though our move was the first one in morning. - Extremely slow in packing. This is based on my previous experience hiring other movers. - Unnecessary disassembling of sofa. Other movers moved it as two units. Instead Impel thought it was best to split into 6 parts. That itself took additional 1 hour to disassemble/assemble which could have been avoided. - They took one hour break between move. I have never heard any mover taking break in between. Had they come early on time and worked quick, they would not have to take a break. We had urgent appointment planned and had to miss out because of this. - One of the movers literally did nothing in the last 30 mins. He used bathroom and went to fix the truck in the paid time....instead of helping re-assemble sofa. When they are charging $170/hr, they should be working on the job and not setting up their truck. That should be done after job is done. - Another mover kept taking 7-10 mins between each trip to truck. I could not fathom why it's taking so long each time when it should be 2-3 mins each trip. This was happening even when he was carrying small items. Makes no sense. A 3-4 hr job took 5.5 hours. With literally no commute in between homes. And we had packed 90% of stuff already. All our previous moves took 3-4 hours with one hour travel time included. Impel took 5.5 hours with literally no commute involved. Very disappointed. read more

We hired Impel because they gave us the best all inclusive, flat rate estimate, including a discount from Yelp. We needed a move from Danville to Paradise, 170 miles, 3 hour drive. I received many quotes from $1500 starting, up to $4800 ballpark, maybe more. We were given a straight forward flat rate quote, use of wardrobe boxes, wrapping of furniture as needed, and 2 very polite, hard working guys, who just didn't stop from the time they arrived until they were done. Everything arrived in great condition. I highly recommend Impel. You will not regret using them if you need a moving service. read more

The move was scheduled to start between 2-4. The movers arrived a bit after 2 and started working. It took around 4 hours to load everything (it's a 1 bedroom). That time also includes packing most of the fragile items in the kitchen which we didn't do beforehand. We moved to a place close by so getting there didn't take long. Then unloading everything took 3 more hours. Including lifting a very big couch 2 flights of stairs which was done very professionally. We moved yesterday, and so far we haven't noticed any damage, so no complaints. read more

I needed help with a move literally across the street and Impel was very responsive and competitive with their quote. They gave me a 2-4pm arrival time window for my move and when I asked about an earlier time they couldn't guarantee it, but said they'll likely finish their previous job early. On the day of the move I called their number multiple times in the morning to get an update and the phone always went to voicemail. They eventually replied via email and said that 2pm arrival is on track. In the end the crew wasn't ready till closer to 4. I paid for the 3hr minimum even though by 4pm we had already started on the job and only needed 2.5hrs of help. While they arrived within the promised time frame, I took off a star for lack of responsiveness on the day of the job at the number that says to call 24/7. The guys working were super nice, careful and diligent, so they get 5 stars but 4 for the business overall. read more

We had a team of 3 move our Oakland 2BR+ apartment to a house about 20 minutes away, which took about 6.5 hours partially in the rain and up a flight of outdoor stairs. The furniture dis/re-assembly service saved us so much time, and they were very attentive (remembering to ask us which way the bed was supposed to face). Max & Alim were excellent! The best movers and moving experience we've had so far in the Bay Area! We moved from a small, tricky 2 floor loft with a very narrow spiral staircase. We had some heavier furniture pieces upstairs (100" projector screen, large dressers, etc.) and they moved our furniture downstairs using logic and care (wrapped, padded, and taped edges). On the drop off, regardless of our elevator at our new residence being broken, Max & Alim with no hesitation worked as a team to move our things up to our 3rd floor. It took multiple trips up but they got it done with the same care as pick up. Huge props to them! Thank you so much guys for your hard work!
