Paul led a team of three on my move of items into storage. A few uncommon events occurred even before we got the items packed and to the storage area, and Paul and the team took those unusual events in stride. What put the move on overdrive was being told by storage staff that we had until 6:30pm to exit the facility, only to find that we were locked in the gated parking area at 6:10pm with no useful numbers to call to get through a gate fortified with barbed wire. The day was saved twenty minutes later, after one resourceful member of the moving team tried combination after combination on the keypad, finally cracking the gate the same way a hacker cracks a password. For one, you don't have to schedule and pick up and return your own Uhaul. Dennis, who I believe is the business owner came and provided an estimate. He expected the move to take 3 hours to pack, about an hour to transport and two hours to unpack. They arrived at 8.30 on time, but didn't complete packing untill gone 4 pm and didn't finish unloading until gone 11 pm. As a consequence the cost was about 50% more than the estimate. They also required a second truck as the one they turned up with wasn't adequate. To be fair, they didn't charge for the scond truck and the team worked hard and were firendly, but didn't seem very experienced. They wrap everything in cling film, which isn't very environmentally friendly, and isn't easy to unpack. I recently had an international move and this was very much more efficient. I had been impressed by other reviews on Yelp, but I can't say my experience was as good as experienced by others. read more

My apartment also has a lot of stairs with a sharp corner at the top so it makes it hard to navigate bulky items. However, Alex and Sergei were extremely meticulous. As for the moving day itself, they struck a good balance between working quickly and efficiently while still taking good care of our stuff. Packing/ Protecting and creative moving and stacking in parts of the house that wouldn't be touched. They worked very efficiently; asked clarifying questions whenever it was needed. Highly recommend! I selected Impel for our recent move because of their positive reviews, and I was not disappointed! I really can't say enough good things about Maksim and Alim. The move was made especially difficult because we were trying to empty some things out of my mother-in-law's house in the East Bay, about 100 miles away from us in Sacramento, and we were not in the home where the items were to be removed. As a result, I underestimated the weight and difficulty of moving more than one item, which was particularly unfortunate because of the many stairs involved and our moving day being one of the hottest of the summer. Things didn't go quite as planned because of my own inability to accurately report our inventory, which should have included a third human on the job, but Maksim and Alim did the job and did it well! They were helpful in every way and made the stressful day as stress-free as possible. They were courteous, communicative, and CAREFUL with all our items. Their thoughtful effort and attention to detail with both the disassembly and reassembly were amazing, down to helping us maximize space in the garage where we are storing many items, as well as making sure the refrigerator was not just correctly placed, but also completely level. Had a great move with Impel Moving. We were a little overwhelmed at first with all of the different moving companies, and used Yelp's request-a-quote. Impel Moving was one of the options- offering very competitive pricing, no-frills, and was very responsive/flexible- which is why we went with them. Ended up being a great decision. One of the challenges with working with a big moving company is that your experiences ultimately depend on your assigned movers; with Impel, it seems like it is a smaller, more tight-knit operation and based off other reviews and our experience, Dennis (the manager) is personally involved with the majority of moves - and we can vouch that he was great to work with - polite and professional as well as careful and efficient in moving. His partner was also similarly respectful and they worked together very well in moving our disorganized 1 BR apt to new house across the city. They wrapped all of our furniture and mattress, and provided wardrobe boxes as well as disassembling and reassembling the bigger furniture. Even through the rain and needing to move items up two flights of stairs, Dennis and his partner remained in good spirits and were very accomodating to our requests. Ultimately took about 6.5 hours - we had a lot of stuff/was not well-organized; Dennis and his partner worked continuously from start-to-finish and everything made it safe and sound! Dennis' communication was excellent from beginning to end - he responded quickly by email with a quote, emailed a PDF of moving tips prior to my move, and the morning of the move he sent me a text when he was ~30 minutes away. He was able to get a parking spot for the truck on the street in front of our apartment in Berkeley and he and his partner wrapped up all our furniture and loaded up all our boxes into their truck in about 90 minutes. Unloading at my new place in Oakland only took about 30 mins (there was a freight elevator we used). My move took place in late July 2020 during COVID-19 and Dennis + assistant were masked up and careful. The rate we got was a special Yelp rate for 2 movers + truck at $120 per hour (their regular rate is $140 per hour) with a minimum charge of 3 hours, and the following was included in the rate: stairs, labor, disassembly/re-assembly and full packing when needed, packing materials (boxes, bubble wrap, packing paper, shrink wrap, tape, usage of moving blankets and wardrobe boxes), insurance, taxes.
