Great friendly staff, amazing pizza. Get the deep dish with pomarola, it will change your life

It had been a long time since I had been to this longtime gem of a local pizzeria. I remember the first time I ever had Impellizzeri's Pizza in the late '80s or early '90s, how blown away I was by both the yumminess of the pizza (it's truly one of a kind) and the warm, friendly service. I think it may have been the owner I encountered there decades ago on Bardstown Road the first time I ever had pizza there. Fast forward to December 2025, and the pizza is still of knockout quality. The service is still great, this time near the Holiday Manor shopping center. I ordered carry out, but couldn't wait to get home before sinking my teeth into the first slice. Yes, it's tempting enough to swallow your pride and sophistication and chomp while behind the wheel (with the vehicle still parked, of course). If you know, you know; it was worth it. And yes, I had plenty of napkins. I was super delighted that Impellizzeri's participated in the WHAS 11 Crusade for Children Pizza Passport initiative, new on the list since last year. Yay for Social Responsibility at Impellizzeri's! I picked my pie up at the bar, and the nice gentleman employed there pointed out for me some napkins and utensils on the bar top. The overall atmosphere was quite nice. Did I mention how amazing that pizza tasted? I'm tempted to go back tonight for another treat. Can't get enough of that deliciousness. read more

First time at this location and it exceeded all expectations. Super casual atmosphere with multiple screens to view various games while dining. Service was friendly, fast and ensured we were well taken care of. Food is always fantastic! It's not just pizza, it's truly the BEST pizza in Louisville! Whether it's thin, original or deep dish Sicilian, the dough is always baked perfectly, not overdone. Sauce is unique and compliments all the other flavors going on quite well. And of course, after the pies are topped to your liking, they're loaded with super stretchy, fresh mozzarella cheese. I tried this place a long time ago when I first moved to Louisville. But I was at the location downtown. My mom and I ordered 2 pizzas. Service is curbside, since COVID-19. We got the margherita and the old hickory BBQ. Wow! So fresh and very delicious! I was impressed! I've had their pepperoni before which is also amazing! Local pizza shops are always a must try! Prices are a little higher than your typical franchise, but this is local and worth the price. Service was good too! I'm thankful for all these workers who are working hard despite the health crisis. We see this place every day when we go to work and I'm disappointed that it took us so long to order from here. Really great pizza! If you're looking for a great local pizza place, you've found it right here. We ordered the sampler pizza because we couldn't decide what to get (verything looks so good!) and we were very pleased! There was a perfect balance to the toppings, which all tasted fresh and weren't burnt from baking, and crust was perfectly baked. The sauce is delicious, which I'm not able to say very often about other places! We also got an order of breadstix which were fresh and hot, and fluffy, yet hearty! The sauces were good too, especially their homemade garlic butter! We've been looking for a great, dependable pizza place for a while, and I believe we found it! Will definitely be back. read more

okay so this has been one of my favorite spots since i was about eight hears old. Impellizzeri's to me, at 8, meant "Pizza like 6" tall! No Way could you eat more than one slice unless you were a grown up!" (I have since been to Giordano's in Chicago and to me, it is our 'ville version!) Everyone is always nice. I have been to this location a couple of times and this particular one, I went to HS around the corner when it was a Pizza Hut, so now when I go in I am always impressed at how much better it is now as Impellizzeri's! I got a veggie pizza...it was great. My wife got a margarita pizza and loved it as well. We both took about half home and knew that we were going to hehe. Best left overs in the Lou! Thanks to yelp for the coupon offer but we knew we would be stuffed and didn't waste it ;) Will be visiting anytime I am in the mood for the bomb pizza BAM! Food - excellent. Pizza had a great flavor. Crust was cooked to perfection. A ton of mozzarella cheese on pie though not as fruitful on the other toppings that were spaced at great distance. Bread sticks were AMAZING! Served hot with a ton of butter. Perfection! Inside the building was dark and outdated. Nothing in ruin, but definitely an older building not modernized. TV's we're located in various areas seemingly without sound. While waiting for my food, I noted the carry out business was booming. For a Monday the dining area was decently filled. There was only one waitress for the entire dining area which made for very slow service with no refills on drinks while dining and no "check-in"'after food was delivered by other staff. I had to ask for check and to go boxes. It also took a very long time to receive the pizza order. I saw others waiting a decent period for their food as well. Though outdoors was perfect temperature the inside was freezing. I am normally cold, but several others around me could be heard complaining about the temperature. In fact, someone walked outside to "warm up" while waiting for their food. Save some money and turn down the air conditioner to hire more staff or so management has money to run to Kroger's across the way to buy lettuce for salads (they were out of lettuce). No hot drinks, Mostly pizza with 6 pasta dishes and 4 sandwiches. Only spaghetti and penne pasta available. I had pasta with meatballs. Meatballs (3) were large and meaty. The sauce was good but not exceptional. It came with 2 large bread sticks that were exceptional! The menu says that they are baked on site and I believe it. They came with just enough olive oil and grated cheese. Really good. Service was friendly and quick (5 stars), but I ordered penne and was given spaghetti. So 4 stars for service. I have to admit that I enjoy pizza way too much. Being in Prospect, I had got used to ordering from one of the big chains... Good Pizza, consistent but nothing special... So one night my wife and decided to see if we could find a none chain pizza place that would deliver to our house. Perusing Yelp we landed on Impellizzeri's and hoped that they would deliver to our house in Prospect. I called and as luck would have it they did. I ordered the Meats and my wife selected the Bianco. The pizza arrived before the hour promised and the young man who delivered was also the young man who took my order on the phone. I could tell by the weight of the pizza boxes we were in for a treat. Both pizzas were most excellent. My wife and I enjoyed both pizzas immensely!!! Sorry chain pizza places, Impellizzeri's maybe a little more expensive and the wait a little longer, but they will be receiving my pizza order from now on. read more

There was a long wait but the staff was so friendly and hard working we didn't mind at all. They did their best to get us seated as soon as possible and once we sat down the service was excellent despite being super busy. The pizza came out fast and hot and was super yummy. LEGIT. The Sicilian deep dish is *chef's kiss.* I've been living down the street from this place for over a year, but I've been sleeping on it. This place used to have legit Pizza that would rival other cities best. The deep dish was their signature. Now it is below average at best. Their facilities and ambiance need a major renovation. C'mon man! Get your act together or get out. It's kinda sad too see such a slow precipitous decline. Anyone who raves about their Pizza either has a vested interest or doesn't know the category. I do. It's average. Their Holiday Manor location has potential. Ownership has changed probably a few times. Seems like a money grab and no attention to quality. Service and people are good. Food quality is below average and the facilities are trending down fast. The tables have a film on them. The bathrooms are dirty and in disrepair. What does that say about the kitchen? This was our second choice for pizza, not disappointed the first place was closed after eating here. Some of the best pizza I've had. We started with their breadstix, which were admittedly swimming in garlic butter...but they were soooo good. For pizza we had The Sampler, and the Four Cheese. The crust was exquisite, slight crunch but oh so pillowy, the toppings on the sampler were great. The four cheese appeased our two youngest diners and were approved by the adults. Poor waiter was working solo, and warned us they were expecting a 20 top. We ordered quickly just incase. Never saw the 20 top come in (despite them having the tables lined up and ready). I never get tired of writing reviews about impellizaris...never cause they are so freaking great. On this occasion it was the daughter/father day out and we were close to brownsboro road so I said " how about a slice?" She agreed as long as we kept it simple so a 4 cheese with pepperoni added was set in motion. I hadn't been to this location in awhile I had read some not so great reviews about service but ours was fantastic! The waitress was very easy going and the restaurant was spotless ...I love the setting in this one best cause it has white Christmas lights all over the ceiling and the most comfortable booths. Use to be a Pizza Hut but now it's home to pizza god Benny impellizari ...if I remember correctly this is one he owns but I could be wrong...perfect place for great food everyday..Louisville sure is lucky. read more

After hearing so much about this pizza, we placed a carry out order last night. This was our first time and We were not impressed. Little sauce, we added our own when we needed to reheat the slices because they were room temperature. My husband arrived 5 minutes early and the order was sitting on the bar. Ordered the 4 cheese pizza with onions, we did not find any onions. We were used to ordering 1/2 mushroom and 1/2 black olive, I assumed they would be on separate sides but these were all on the same side. I despise mushrooms! Ate at @theoriginalimpellizzeris and it was delicious! Came here after leaving hungry from another restaurant and so glad I did. Ordered the 10 inch meat pizza and split with a friend. Perfect for two people with leftovers for the next day. I got banana peppers and black olives added to my half. They did charge me an extra $0.75 for each of those but it was good so whatever. The sauce had a good flavor, the crust was the perfect texture (slightly crisp on the outside and warm and doughy on the inside), the meat was yummy and the cheese was melty. Delicious and the best part of my night. Yum! Bill was $22.78 total. Not cheap for a 10 inch pizza but not the most I've paid. This is a pretty tough review to write. I LOVE Impellizzeri's pizza. I've been eating it for a long time. It's comfort food for me. It might not be for everybody, but I think it's great. Everything is homemade. I've had most things on the menu by this point, but you can't go wrong with the pizza. The crust is tender, the cheese is whole-milk so it melts beautifully, and the toppings are placed carefully so each bite is consistent. I also frequently get the pastas (homemade sausage & meatballs, hello!), and the chopped salad is great. The service, though. It's so inconsistent. Most recently, I was there on a Friday night around 6:00 and they were shorthanded. It happens. The server who stepped in to cover our table was apologetic; our original server didn't acknowledge the situation at all. But the thing is, being shorthanded didn't make the service _unusually_ bad. I've waited longer for drink refills, etc., when it wasn't busy at all. It's just very hit or miss. Side note: the host/busser who was working the last time we were there definitely could use some more training. When we walked in, he just said "hey." He wasn't wearing any Imp's attire so we weren't totally sure what was going on at first. Kind of an odd experience. Even though there's about a 50/50 chance I'm gonna leave irritated, I know I won't quit Impellizzeri's. The food is too good. I've enjoyed their big breadsticks and super cheesy pizza for years, but I became a huge Impellizerri's fan when I discovered their thin crust pizzas.
