Passing thru bishop and decided to stop for a bite to eat. Decor is nice staff was friendly but the male waiter got our order wrong 3 times. My food was ok but I've had better. Had the cucumber salad; crisp cucumber, rice vinegar & oil, with minced garlic which was refreshing ahead of my chicken and vegetables with white rice. Food is light on the seasoning and salt, but the vegetables were fresh and the rice was cooked perfectly. Very refreshing meal after a long day of hiking. Staff friendly and we got seated fairly quickly considering the restaurant was full at the time. The dishes were over priced for the amount of food and quality of a chinese restaurant. If I could give negative stars, I would. From the minute I walked in the door, my experience was incredibly, astoundingly bad. The service was poor from the start. I had to plead not to be seated in the noisy bar. Then my order never got submitted, since apparently being seated in a non-approved location threw whatever system they had into disarray. I had to ASK for a fork and napkin. The food was a complete and total waste of money! I ordered the "Happy Family" - beef, chicken and seafood with vegetables. What I got was a pile of meat chunks in grease. I could not tell by taste which was which. Only by texture and color. All flavor was drowned in the grease. And the vegetables were a few tree sized broccoli chunks. I've eaten a number of greasy spoons in my time on the planet, but this was the greasiest food I can recall ever having eaten. Look, I love Asian food of all kinds. I eat a lot of Thai, Chinese, Vietnamese. This was truly an abomination. I ate only because I was exhausted from a 14 hour drive, and only wanted to fill my belly and go to sleep. Going somewhere else was simply too much effort. They charge for every little thing. Having been to China and Hong Kong many times I will tell you THIS is very common and plain Chinese food It is not a high food cost enterprise. $18.00 for a small dish of stir fry delight is mind boggling - and it is a la carte with no rice or soup... Dinner for 4 - no drinks - $90.00 Anything extra is $$$ We have been here many times over the years and have seen a steady rise in the menu prices.. Friday night at 7 pm the place was empty.. So in desperation they raise prices and nit-pick every little thing. Negative results-even less business. They have a full bar but the bar prices are also high.. My true impressions of imperial gourmet Chinese food would not have been as major if they didn't advertise as being gourmet. Being in bishop I don't expect much; you're a tourist your fishing, skiing, hiking doing what you do and burning calories, you just need simple sustenance. So we're at the Motel 6 across the street we do not know the location being tourists and we called to place an order for delivery we called and placed and ordered crispy duck, orange chicken, white steamed rice, and eggrolls. We are informed the wait was 40 minutes and they did not accept debit for delivery so accordingly we went to the gas station to go to the ATM and saw that the restaurant was across the street from us we then called the order in for pick up or take out. We get there 30 minutes later and it appears the food is been sitting there for at least 20 minutes which means if we had ordered delivery the food could've been up to an hour and hour and a half old. So to the real overview of the food; starting with the review of the eggrolls; The eggrolls appeared to be perfectly uniform robotic and almost mechanically made as if it would came in a box from the factory the cabbage inside was wilted and a dark brown and the wonton wrapper had the consistency of chewy underwear. Moving onto the orange chicken. The orange chicken appeared to be a mystery meat of all the throwaway scraps of chicken or even pork it was indescribable and not in a good way in a way that you may question yourself if you're eating cat or some domesticated animal but that's not the worst part from a technical aspect the orange chicken lacked sauce and had the taste of raw flour and cornstarch this could be due to the fact that the food had been sitting there for over 30 minutes IN A STYROFOAM BOXES. After we arrived 10 minutes before the food would be ready. Then, if you call it the shredded pork, lacked flavor it was bland and had the consistency and appearance of intestines, the majority of the dish was probably 70% bamboo shoots which tasted canned and rubbery and 30% Mistry meet intestines The crispy duck if you could even call it that was not crispy it was never crispy not even before it hit the Styrofoam box it was the texture of beef jerky dry and stringy and still had some of the bone marrow on the bottoms it tasted grizzly and of some sort of oil for the skin was completes gelatinous not crispy and no care was taken into the crafting of this dish. The only highlight of the meal was the steamed white rice though not properly seasoned it was cooked accordingly and help soak up the disgusting sauces that came with all the dishes. All in all I feel I was scammed out of $50 and I would like my refund but it's too late because I ate half of it because I was starving. But at the end of the day, I find myself craving MSG. I need it this food was bland n lakes flavor and it left me wanting more from horrible American interpretation of Chinese food all in all I'll eat a McDonald's where at least I know what I'm getting and I'm not promise gourmet food with the type price and it shitty value never again. My husband loves chinese food. He ordered the Mongolian beef and plain chow mein. I ordered the broccoli beef. The portions were a bit on the small side for the $11.95 price. My husnand thought the mongolian beef was good. My broccoli beef was okay. The service was great. The waitress brought us a pitcher of water because we asked for an extra glass. I've been eating here (and ordering take out) for years. I like it, hence three stars. But I have to admit that now that I am using Yelp I've been puzzled about the wide range of reviews. Folks either seem to love it or hate it. I think that what it comes down to is that it is a decent "Chinese American" place, but a mediocre "Chinese" place. If you are looking for a more "authentic" experience, then skip this place and go have some of Bishop's really good, more authentic Mexican food (and satisfy your Chinese urges in a big city). If you want a friendly, clean place with good service and typical American - style Chinese dishes, you'll be fine here. Good bar, too. I know that I'll continue to come back. read more

Imperial has MOVED!! I loved to ride the elevator when I was a kid ( really the only elevator in town), and now my kids got to enjoy the ride before and after eating at the best chinese place EVER!!! UNTIL the rich folk( the cottonwood Plaza owners) decided they just wanted MORE MONEY!! That's the roumor around bishop atleast. Thay kicked out every business in the entire plaza. Our corner of 395 and Yaney looks like an abandoned ghost town, all chained off and windows boarded up. SAD REALLY,,, What was the worst of all, Imperial CLOSED DOWN!! OMG Bishop with no chinese place to eat, HORRIBLE!! A fast -food chinese place tried to open for awhile, the Dragon Express, but did not last to long, it;s already just a bad memory. THANK GOD IMPERIAL GORMET IS BACK!!!!! They have moved to where the old Western Kitchen used to be(Next to Taco Bell). Totaly rebuilt from the ground up. I think they only kept one wall, the rest was torn down, rebuilt and looks great. The new place is SMALL, but very beautiful. the buddah is still right there as you enter the 15 foot tall double doors, again JUST BEAUTIFUL. but I will always miss the elevator ride. So HICKISH i know. but what can you say were the "mule capitol of the world, who will never get any bigger because "DWP wants to keep the small town charm" read more

Honestly, we didn't expect much from Chinese food out in the desert. We were very pleasantly surprised. We had a very good dinner, and they have a full bar, too. The service was very professional, though the kitchen was a little slow, but the food made the wait worthwhile. The dining room is open and can be a bit noisy during busy times, so if you're looking for a very quiet meal, either go at off-hours or try a diifferent restaurant. It's not San Francisco-grade Chinese food, but it's a huge step up from the "cheap Chinese" you get in so many places that don't have a large Chinese community. Maybe I am a Chinese and have a little bit of expectation of this place, and I am so disappoint after the meal.We ordered Kung Bao Chicken and Mushroom with Baby Bak Choi, since we thought these are the most easy to cook dish. But we are so wrong. Chicken is overcook, not enough spicy. You can easily find it better in Panda. Mushroom with baby Bak Choi is even worse. Too salty for the dish. We stopped in for lunch with our 8 year old grandson. He's a very picky eater, so we picked up a Happy Meal for him to eat while we were eating Chinese food. When the waiter seated us, he pointed at my grandson and told me that this restaurant does not allow children to bring in outside food. We dropped the menus and walked out. Ugh, you ever make a mistake a couple of times because you forget the last time? Here's my example, we come through Bishop every year for a day or two because we are heading up to Truckee for the summer. Anyways we have stopped and eaten here before and it was not very good but we forgot, tried again today and good grief it was horrible. My honey got the General Tso's chicken and I got Mongolian Beef, the chicken was somewhat edible but the beef had a smell and the consistency of the beef was wrong. I can't explain it other than I've never had beef that felt weird to the teeth. The smell and taste had a lingering effect, the chicken was okay compared to beef. The egg rolls were a cabbage filled monstrosity and the rice was probably the best part of meal. The egg drop soup was more like corn soup, no taste of chicken like you'd expect. Honestly the worst Chinese food I've ever tasted in my life. Like I said, this wasn't my first rodeo with this place, so after two visits in two years I'm going to go out on a limb and say it's never going to get better. read more

If you are familiar with good chinese food I would NEVER recommend this restaurant. Egg rolls is so disappointing - it is all tasteless cabbage inside. Sweet and sour pork is rolled on thick flour with dark red sauce same as the sauce for the egg rolls. Plus the serving is small that we had to order again to fit for the family. Sweet and sour soup? I recommend that Chinese restaurants adopt the policy of allowing customers to swap rice for noodles. If cost is greater at least offer option to upgrade and pay difference for $1 or $2. Surprisingly good Chinese food in a small, white-bread town. Nicely decorated and clean, and very busy but efficient on the Saturday night we hit it. Food was hot and tasty. A surprisingly large full bar, rare in a Chinese restaurant, seems to make it a good place to celebrate a good day skiing or hiking or fishing. Solid place to stop if you're craving Chinese on a return trip from Mammoth. We went there on a Sunday evening and I was fearing it might be a little crowded from others returning from a weekend retreat, but it was very nice and comfortable. I was pumped they had my very favorite beer, Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, on tap. We did family style for five, with hot and sour soup (excellent), broccoli beef (solid, broccoli was very fresh), kung pao chicken (eh, can't complain), shrimp fried rice (meh), and pork chow mein (wasn't a fan). Overall the bill came out to about $90 for five people including tip. I'm guessing it's probably the best Chinese food in Bishop, but isn't that kinda like calling a girl the sexiest woman on the 1980 East German swimming team? read more

I was a bit skeptical of the menu at first because this is the first time I've ever seen a menu that invokes fried rice with egg soup + main dish. I ordered the chicken chow mein and it came with a side of fried rice and a egg role and egg drop soup. I wasn't really satisfied with the rice because there were no veggies or anything it was like it was just white rice and soy sauce! Also the portions are a little too small for me for $9. The chow mein was really good I wanted more noodles instead of fried rice because the portions weren't that much :(. The place is pretty clean and the service is meh. I would give them a 3 and a half but they have really clean restrooms here and have fresh egg rolls made so I decided to round up! read more

One of the best restaurant in the Bishop area. We were on a trip to mammoth lakes and we couldn't find good restaurants on the way. We finally found this and was crowded when we arrived at 8pm. The service was fast and the food was delicious. On a cold winter night, this was an awesome place to dine. We had fried rice and chicken curry. Both tasted amazing. We even took a Togo of their fried rice for the rest of our trip. read more
