This comedy was fantastic to visit. Not only was the line up terrific, the establishment had friendly staff and everything was very clean. If you are looking for a great laugh at a great price then this would definitely be on my top list of places to visit. One of the great things about this club was that they do have family friendly shows! Which is fantastic, since I know several people who are looking for activities to do with their kids this summer. I feel like I've been betrayed by my fellow Yelpers. I decided to take my boyfriend on a date and turned to Yelp for help (bada bing...you see? I'm already funnier than these guys). We went to a restaurant that had the same amount of stars and were amazed. Then it was time for the show. We had such a hard time finding it because the website and tickets/confirmation neglected to say that it was inside of the bowling alley. So there we were driving in circles looking for a sign. When we came up the stairs the girl checking people in (and by people I mean us 2) was very awkward and looked and acted like she was 12. She tried to hide the sign in sheet which clearly showed that my name was the only one on the list. We walked in to see....no one. Almost. I think we were 2 out of 6? But I'm pretty sure we were the only legitimate guests and the rest were family/ friends. I tried to give it a shot, I really did. God knows my boyfriend did and was such a good sport about it, trying to participate. I found myself constantly zoning out forgetting to keep my fake smile pasted on my face. They weren't funny. They're not similar to Who's Line Is It Anyway, and it's not PG-13. It seemed like we were in someone's living room with a comedy club that was together in college and couldn't let go of their dreams. I'm glad they made each other laugh so hard - though I'm sure this was to avoid awkward silences from no one laughing. Still annoying when they're obnoxiously laughing after every line. They do random games involving improv but they'd be better off planning this stuff out ahead of time because let me tell you...none of them is cut out for improv, or even comedy for that matter. Now if you've seen Who's Line Is It Anyway, It's funny. It's also done by professional actors who are actually funny. So although their concept here was nice, it was not executed well by any means. As for the "PG-13" aspect, it's really more like PG or G rated. I'm sorry guys but there's a reason movies do better when they're PG-13 vs PG. Slight sexual undertones ARE OK. The reason PG-13 is funny is because of slight innappropriateness. Instead they played it safe and went with the G rated stuff which didn't keep my attention and had to keep from yawning and nodding off the entire time....that we were there. I felt so incredibly guilty leaving when you could hardly say that they had an audience but I couldn't take any more. We left during the break and talked the whole way home of how in the world they got 4.5 stars on yelp and got us to even sit there that long. I wanted to get up from the very first set and walk out. It was not worth the time or money to even sit there and pretend it was funny. And PS. If it's as I speculate....and all of these reviews are from family and friends to help your little club get off the ground and trick people into actually paying money to come see this?!....you should be ashamed of yourselves. Best comedy show I've ever seen. Hands down. Everything is unique and customized to the crowd, so no two shows are alike. I was blown away by how witty, spontaneous, and hilarious the performers were. And how can you compete with the price? There's just no comparison. We also hired some of the actors for a side project we were doing. They came early, dressed well, were beyond professional, and executed to the highest degree. Can't wait to go back! read more

Last night my honey and I went to the Improv Comedy Show at the Back Bay Center. There were 7 artists who preformed and a crowd of about 20. Let me just say if you weren't spending your Saturday night busting a gut in laughter and having the time of your life...well then you were really missing the boat. For a whopping $10. buck we enjoyed a action packed, hilarious all out show. I can't get over how much engagement was brought forth by this troupe. Devin the director really knows his stuff and this "clean" family show is a must see by all! My guess standing room only if people knew. Go see it, you will love it! read more

When my friend brought me to ImprovCity,we went inside Irvine Lanes and I was thinking....hmmmmm... but we went upstairs to a conference room that had a neat little stage and offered free water. I wasn't sure what to expect since the atmosphere didn't look legitimate. I mean how interesting can the show be in a such a bland setting? To add to the concern, I also noticed their poster read "FAMILY FUN CLEAN ENTERTAINMENT". I don't really like censored entertainment either but I gave into the show. Once the highly energetic host introduced the players performed in front of us various fun scenarios and situations, it became incredibly entertaining and I laughed out loud several times throughout the show. I really enjoyed myself and the actors were very cool and friendly towards the audience. Since the show was done in a smallish conference room, it also felt more intimate which you don't usually get in a big theater. I recommend this show to anybody that needs a good laugh for ten dollars. Also if you want to have alcoholic drinks beforehand, you can get them at the bar downstairs and bring them up to your seat, the only issue is there aren't any tables so you have to put your drink down on the floor beside your chair. One thing I forgot to credit was the awesome staff that played a nice influx of popular music for the audience appropriate for the mood. read more

It's amazing how they are able to come up with such great content based on audience suggestions on the spot. I can only imagine how amazing the more adult show is like. Wow - 90 minutes of very funny, live entertainment for $10. I wish we had more of this stuff in OC. We went to the 7:30 show which was the PG-13 show and family friendly. There weren't many seats left after some latecomers arrived. Even though we are adults, we thoroughly enjoyed it. The audience is asked to throw out suggestions, words, etc to be incorporated into the show. The MC has such great energy and we laughed a ton. I would have signed up for the email list but I think it was in the corner somewhere. Put it on the table on the way out guys! A few tips - dress warmly, the room is chilly! Bring a snack if you want - the bowling alley food line is limited and slow so not even time to get something during the 5 minute intermission. read more

My husband and I went to this show about a year and a half ago and really enjoyed it! This time wasn't the same. They kept using the Lords name in vain over and over. It was just offensive and not funny. I hope they will clean it up a bit and come up with some fresh new fun skits! They ask for audience input on topics and the cast members do a great job of acting out skits on the fly. Very funny and entertaining. We had a great time! 10 stars for the troupe!! Audience participation and the way it is led is great. When you first come upstairs you wonder what are we doing here - it will all be worth it once you sit down, strap in, and laugh until you cry. In fact because of where it is makes it that much more enjoyable - almost intimate. There was no profanity - it is really family friendly - some humor may go over young heads but absolutely clean!! There were kids in the audience and they were enjoying themselves. It was really refreshing to be able to laugh at the genius of these talented artists for their creativity and speed - they are amazing. I think they are selling themselves for less than they are worth - so I am going to go again and again and bring others - it really is a very inexpensive night of laugh til you cry humor. There is food and drink available. I know my 2 kids are hooked - my daughter who shall be known by the troop as "Epic of Gilgamesh"... You had to be there... and when you attend a show and leave for the first time you will have your own epic of something that only you and the audience shared with the artists there... that is really the beauty of it all... it only for you on that day... I've gone three times and it's pretty good except for this one game I don't know why they think playing "charades" is somehow improv. I wish they would understand that if we wanted to watch charades we wouldn't pay to go to an improv show! The game takes so long and it just kills the mood of everyone in the show. There are always a few people who seem to enjoy it but as soon as they play that the level of the room sinks. We're paying to watch improv not charades. "Instead of shoes I'm wearing fish"! ridiculous! It's self-serving, cause they look like they're really enjoying it but in reality most people can't keep track of what it is they're trying to act out and or could care less. Some players are really good and most of them are pretty good. Worth watching minus that game!! read more

I love improv shows and because of the great number of stellar reviews for this place, I decided that this would be an awesome date night activity. Tickets are $10/person and can be purchased either online or in-person.The show is located upstairs inside the "Irvine Bowling Lanes". You can buy drinks and snacks downstairs to bring to the show. The show takes place in a small, but intimate setting. Despite how small the audience was at the show I attended, I was highly impressed with how vivacious everyone in the ImprovCity squad was! I loved the high-spirited and playful energy the group brought. My boyfriend and I thought the show was hilarious. ImprovCity caters to a wide audience, so they do their best to keep their humor pretty clean...with a few VERY subtle dirty remarks that can be caught if you have a mindset like me. Unless I just misinterpreted some of the jokes and thought they were dirty, haha. They definitely engage with the audience a lot and are very open to taking our ideas to play around with. What's awesome is that they also hold improv classes for anyone who's interested. They also host private events, which are great to do as a birthday activity or a work team building experience. read more

Great show! I took off some stars because a lot of the time suggestions were taken by two little girls (daughters of one of the cast member). Although I am all for participation, my experience would have been nicer if more suggestions were taken from other audience members who paid for the show. For instance, I thought the audience members could have had some great suggestions however the children responded so quickly that we did not have much of an opportunity to give those great suggestions. Also, during a guessing game one the girls said the answer before the cast member could guess. I have to admit the answers given by the girls were cute at first but after a certain point the show started to lose its appeal. Overall, really enjoyed the show thought this was a valid suggestion to make. read more

The historic building is an attraction in itself, and there are some nice exhibits to see inside, particularly for children. They are fascinated by Improv City pendulum. Admission and parking are free, as well as the public telescopes when the Improv City is open in the evening and skies are clear. The views of the city on clear days are very nice. There is also a planetarium, but you can just go up there for a leisurely stroll on the grounds and enjoy the views. read more

WOW - Hysterical! Brilliant, Funny FUNNY Folks! A Must See! Tonight they had a funny famous guest too, the regular team was the funniest! The two ladies had the best improvisational physical comedy reactions, think Lucile Ball & Ellen facial expressions ... Incredible value at $10 adults & kids free. We went to 8 PM show Sat night, it was a full house. Great audience too. We even brought our three (comedic loving) kids and they loved it too, ages 6,8 and 10 ... couples, groups, singles, locals, tourists, double dates, friends, first dates, a complete variety of audience. Laughter is the best medicine. The " Who's Line Is It Anyway" format is fast paced fun and audience gives out topics they turn into pure golden comedy. Our three kids were so inspired they're making jokes/ skits since. Before show and at intermission, a waitress fills any bar drinks or soft drinks orders too, you could grab food at intermission down stairs as well. FYI - the location is a find, a little unexpected bizarre being above the bowing lanes with the interior like an old world looking wood paneled library feel - LA magic castle feel ... it added to the "where the heck are we?" fun factor.
