In-N-Out Burger is a classic and one I absolutely love. My go-to order is the Double-Double with grilled onions, toasted bun, well-done fries, and a diet pink lemonade. You really can't beat the price and quality, it's consistently great and exactly what you want every time. This location gets 4 stars instead of 5 mainly because there's no real dine-in option. It's essentially a large drive-through, and because of that, the wait can be one of the longest. Still, the food quality keeps me coming back despite the lines. I have lived in California, and been going to In-N-Out my whole life. Normally, I have a great experience. I live across the street from an In-N-Out near my house. I was visiting a park here in Costa Mesa and tried this In-N-Out. We had a terrible experience. After waiting for 15 minutes in line, I was waived forward by an employee and told to exit the parking lot and re-enter the back of the line. I asked why, and the guard said that the car behind me claimed I cut them off. I did not cut them off. I followed a green arrow directly into the line with the other cars in front of me. I waited my turn, and was sent to the back of the line. In total, I waited 40 minutes for my food. To be fair, when I told the manager about the situation, he was extremely professional. He gave us gift certificates for future purchases, and was very polite. The manager represented when I come to expect from In-N-Out. The other employees missed the mark. I love In-N-Out. I've lived in California practically all of my life and I am a die hard In-N-Out girl. This location in Costa Mesa is the old school double drive-thru version. But the location does not bode well for the traffic it causes. It was easily a 30 minute wait during dinner rush. I should have parked in the lot and walked up to the window but I was not sure if there was an available spot. I did not want to risk my place in line. Plus it was cold so in the warm car we sat. It's a good thing I drive an EV. No gas wasted. We put in our orders with the friendly staffer standing outside. Our food was basically ready at the window after we paid. I ordered a number 1 (animal-style, no pickles, add chopped chiles, extra toast) and another Double-Double (animal style no spread, with ketchup, mustard, no pickles, no lettuce or tomato) for my husband. They did get my fries wrong. I ordered light well fries, as always, but I got fries that were well done. Hot Tip: If you did not know, light well fries are fried a little bit longer than the normal version and are eons better. They are crispier and the perfect In-N-Out french fry. If you want them more crispy than that, order well done. TRUST. For the long wait, strange layout causing traffic and getting my fries wrong, minus 2 stars. I arrived to This location on 02/22/26 and had a horrible experience with the in n out night time security guard. We got to the end of the line and waited there for about 10 minutes in line, Then the security guard comes over and says we have to come from a "certain street," even though there was no one else in line from said street? I explained I'm 7 months pregnant and I did not know there was a certain street to come from, as there's no signs, no cones, or no guard directing traffic when I got there (because there was NONE). Either way, we were driving into the correct entrance and a line was then forming behind us; It's not like we cut anyone off? Then guard then stood in-front of my car, blocked us on the street, and started yelling with their arms crossed. When I explained I'm 7 months pregnant, I was there first, and I was already waiting 10 minutes (and starting to feel unwell from hunger, nausea and mostly being mistreated). The guard LAUGHED and said to go to the back of the line; to get behind cars that got there at least 6 minutes AFTER US. So we just left and I had to get food quickly else wear, as I was dizzy and nauseous. When trying to leave the line because the guard was blocking my car with their body on the street, The guard was clapping, laughing, and shouting "BRAVO, BRAVO" into my side of the car. The guard even started cheering and clapping with their hands above his/ her head. To be clear, it was the heavier set guard with a beanie on. Extremely rude and unfair, especially to a 7 month old pregnant lady that was hungry, and there first. It's unacceptable to laugh at and taught a pregnant lady after making me 10 minutes to be told to get to the back of the line and shouting "bravo, bravo!" As I was taking my business elsewhere? And if this is their policy, they need to be directing traffic (which there was NONE) or have cones or signs in the streets outside the parking lot/lines. Not sure what was wrong with this employee but I'm sure taunting a pregnant lady made them feel better? Again To be clear, this was on the outside streets going into the parking lot, not even the parking lot yet! Burger cold and fries rock hard and brown like they came from bad potatoes. The ketchup packets they gave us were covered in a sticky substance, almost like honey. Fast service, simple but good and inexpensive food at a simple location. This location is different than the rest because it does not have inside seating or ordering. The order and pick up window is outside but there is an overhand so if it's raining, you won't get totally wet waiting. There are 3 tables outside in the corner of the parking lot so if the weather isn't good, you'll have to take it and eat it somewhere else. Honestly, In N Out is a perfect, take out fast food spot so not having an inside area is no problem. The staff here is focused yet friendly and they are always working hard because there is always cars in the drive through line when I've been there. Haven't been to In N Out before? Get the basics but look up Animal Style and Protein Style and try your hamburger or fries these styles. I agree with all of the others reviewers here that this place is EXTREMELY slow if you are a pedestrian walking up to order food. I hyped up In N Out to two of my coworkers who were visiting from out of state for the first time and I was embarrassed after it took as long as it did (we were in a time crunch) and it took about 30 minutes to get our food. Definitely the longest time I've ever had to wait for a meal at In N Out. They definitely prioritize the cars at this location so I would avoid this spot at all costs and go to another location if you are planning on picking up by foot or wanting to dine there.
