In-n-out is just that. People rave about it all the time. I think they are good. They have always been higher on my list but it is because they do a proper protein style burger. I always get the double double protein style -- definitely the way to go. The burgers are yummy I have to admit -- get some grilled onions and sauce and you are on your way. Fries I always ask for them to be more well done -- whenever you have fresh fries they tend to be undercooked. They are good here. Want a shake? get neopolitan. I don't eat much sweet stuff but these are good. I love their iced tea, coke and lemonade is okay. We have stopped in here a couple of times when driving from the bay area to eugene. Since becoming a vegetarian, I definitely had much difficulty finding any fast food restaurants providing something I could eat that wasn't French fries or just an ice-cream. I've heard about people ordering grilled cheese at In-n-out burger before, and since being a fan pre-vegetarian days, I was curious enough to give it a go. I will say, is it was entirely the same as a burger minus the meat patty. What sounds like a great idea- is a decent and subpar experience of in-n-out. The burgers here weren't extravagant, or entirely impressive, but taking out the 'best' part definitely felt a little less than filling. Covered in the same thousand island, onions, cheese, tomato, and lettuce- felt out of place to say the least. One thing I had anticipated was two cheeses to compensate or enforce the fact it was a grilled cheese, but it was as much cheese as a cheeseburger, making it no more special- just a deduction. For anyone who loves in-n-out's sauce and vegetable collection in the cheeseburgers, this would definitely be a great alternative- however, it felt more like a hot American cheese veggie sandwich than an actual grilled cheese. I had purchased the meal, making it paired with fries and a drink. I ended up paying the difference to upgrade my drink to a milkshake, which made the meal more enjoyable. Their French fries feel very bland , less oil, making it feel like heated potatoes, but better for you if you're on a diet or watching out for fatty oils. (However, you'd be kidding yourself if you want authentic French fries!) Their milkshakes are one of their redeeming qualities, having a thick consistency and just the right amount of sweetness. It doesn't taste like a real icecream milkshake, but for the price this one was a definite blow away! I don't think I'll be returning to in-n-out considering it doesn't feel directed for my dietary needs, but the attempt made for vegetarians will always be greatly appreciated. read more

I don't usually leave reviews because most of the time, good or bad, I tend to brush everything off and enjoy the food. However, the food was not the problem here. It was the service. Quick disclaimer: it was somewhat busy with cars waiting in the drive through. I pulled up to say my order but my sister was greeted on the passenger side by someone who was ready to take our order. However, this is where the service ruined In n out for me. My sister ordered our food only to be told by the worker that we are ordering something that has a specific name and she didn't stop saying the name until we "understand what the difference is" Her whole customer service was pure rude and demeaning. She repeated our order twice and said at the window they would repeat another 2 times just so we understand what we're ordering and their specific names. At the window I was greeted by another worker who, if she could, would throw the food at me from the window. I brushed this off, but I asked for the yellow chilies and ketchup. She gave me the chilies and left. I waited because I didn't think she heard me, she comes back with a "what now?" Face and gesture. Similar to ‍ but with a meaner face. I said "can I have ketchup please" and again she gave me ketchup and pretty much shooed me away. The only bright side is the food is never a disappointment. The customer service however, is terrible. We ordered two hamburgers with grilled onions, one cheeseburger with grilled onions, and animal style fries. The total came out to be around $12. It was a sunny day so we ate an outdoor table and enjoyed the peaceful Milpitas vibe. Ultimately, I think I'd give every In-N-Out a "I'm-a-fan" 4-star rating unless something were to be off from the regular consistency of the food or overall cleanliness of the restaurant. The service was wonderfully fast around 12:30 on Monday! One of the employees complimented me when I walked in. Also, I usually have to wait forever at my local In-N-Out, but my order was brought out in under ten minutes. My order was perfect. I asked for a protein style Double-Double, and I think that was the best bun-less burger I've ever had. I mean it had SO much succulent lettuce and fresh ingredients.
