Amazing gym! We drive an extra 5 miles from the one closest to our house just for the care we receive for our little boys in the childcare center here! I've been a member of In-Shape Fitness for some time, but my recent experience has left me seriously reconsidering my membership. While the gym itself has a decent setup and the equipment is adequate, the management and childcare experience were extremely disappointing. During a visit to the gym, my child was placed in the kids' care area, and when I came to pick them up, they were crying and had visible red marks on their forearm and stomach. Initially, staff (Nimsy) did not disclose what happened, and after I asked, I was told that another child had pushed my kid down--twice--and even sat on them. This happened on a soft play toy, roughly two feet high. I understand accidents can happen with kids, but what I cannot understand is the lack of transparency and communication. The staff withheld critical information about the incident, leaving me in shock and deeply concerned for my child's safety. Asking to see security footage was met with the response that I would need a police report first, which felt like an unnecessary barrier and added to the frustration. The lack of accountability and clear protocol for handling these situations is alarming. While the gym is clean and has a variety of equipment, I cannot feel comfortable bringing my child back under these circumstances. Parents entrust facilities like this with their children, and the way this incident was handled seriously undermines that trust. I hope management takes serious steps to improve childcare safety, communication, and transparency. Until then, I cannot recommend In-Shape Fitness for families with young children. We previously went to the Elk Grove California Family Fitness and always had a great experience. The staff was friendly, the gym was clean, and our child enjoyed the Kid Zone while we worked out. After moving, we started going to the Citrus Heights location and unfortunately had two concerning experiences in the Kid Zone with the same staff member. The first time, our child came out with a noticeable mark on her face, and no one mentioned anything about how it happened--we only noticed it ourselves. The second time, she again came out with marks on her. The staff member briefly said another child had been playing a little rough with her, but when her dad went back to ask more questions, additional details came out that hadn't been mentioned initially. We understand kids can play rough and accidents happen, but the lack of communication and repeated incidents made us uncomfortable. When we brought it up, the only follow-up was an incident report, which didn't make us feel confident leaving our child there. Because of this, we decided to cancel our membership. We really enjoyed the Elk Grove location, but our experience at the Citrus Heights location was disappointing. Hopefully management takes situations like this seriously so other families feel safe using the Kid Zone. read more

My wife & I called ahead to the Roseville location, spoke with Gabby, got some initial information & then drove to the gym. Gabby was wonderful! My wife has some recent onset of mobility challenges and we talked with Gabby what we were looking for - she gave us a thorough tour of the gym, stopping in areas and explaining the equipment and focusing on machines that may be more beneficial for my wife's challenges. Took us to the pool & showed us how to use the chair lift, if that was needed. Went over personal training & the trainers that may be more suited for her needs. The gym was really clean, locker room & shower really clean. I appreciate some of the women only access. We signed up and really look forward to seeing future results. I like this gym because most of the time there isn't too much going on. It's a nice, clean gym and the equipment is usually available for me to use. The exercise machines and tvs on the elliptical machines need maintenance to work adequately. The in-shape management has much looser standards than their prior owners, Ça. Family Fitness. However, I do give 4 stars to an In Shape rep, Antionette! She is consistently kind to customers. I've seen her work really hard to contribute to this gym. So my 18 year old college student son signed up with Antoinette (who claimed she was a manager), and told him he could get a 20% student discount after his first month's dues were paid. She hurriedly signed him up to be a member for a $1 sign up fee. Little did we know she was having him sign a 12 month contract. She never once disclosed that this was the case. After the 1st month's dues were paid he went in to speak to Antoinette to get his student discount of 20%. She wasn't there at the time so we spoke to Justin (who was actually the manager). He said my son could only get $3 off with that 20% because the retail rates changed-whatever that means. Antoinette arrived and indicated the same thing. $83 dropping down to $80 is not 20% off. They claimed the rates increased a week ago after we signed up. We left and called other In shape in the area-none of them said there was a price increase and the website also matched what we agreed to pay, not what Justin was claiming. In talking with Justin, he was rude, disrespectful, and claimed we were trying to bully our way into a discount-when the discount was promised to us when we signed up-we did not ask for it, it was offered to us. So my son tried to cancel membership and that's when we realized Antoinette signed him up to a year contract and never disclosed it to him. It seems my son was the one bullied into a 12 month contract. Unbelievable! They tell you one thing to get you to sign up then treat you horribly when you ask for what was promised and they don't deliver. They cannot be trusted. read more

Love this gym! My husband and I work out here and we take our toddler to the kids center while we do. The ladies there are so great with her! All the employees at this gym are friendly. Lots of free weights and machines, and the sooo many cardio machines. I have been to other gyms with similar price points and this definitely seems to be the best so far. read more

I have been to three clubs orangevale Zinfandel and Citrus Heights. All are good except the general manager at Citrus Heights. His name is Justin D. I have been a member at calfit for awhile. When they transferred to In Shape it was a tough transition. A lot of people were and still are not happy. All corporation contact is done through emails which are not Answered. Also trying to get an email address from Justin was impossible. He said it will just come back to him. Here is my dilemma. I signed up two grandchildren under my plan unlimited gyms. I recently found out through their father that he was paying for a membership for himself and kids in Roseville. So we were paying double For my two grandchildren which amounted to approx 320.00 for 10 months. When I spoke to the general manager Justin about this he was rude and showed no care. I gave he said I should have know my son was signing them up. He said they do not give credits or reimbursement. I am shocked. He also said their system does not recognize duplicate memberships and there are a lot of people with the same names first and last. I was like wth. Anyway very very disappointing I with this location general manager Justin. I have placed my membership on hold and am seriously thinking of canceling my membership all together. If these gyms were franchised I Could understand but to not be able to contact corporate and get help is beyond my comprehension. My trainers Riley and Nicole were awesome and the gym was a great gym but their new manager Alex is such a sleaze. The 1 star is a rating of him. I ended my personal training well before my next billing cycle and it was charged again. When I asked about it, Alex mumbled something unintelligible about my trainer and then said "We'll see what I can do?" That was an "IF" not "When" statement and so I waited a week but nothing was refunded. I had to charge it back. Then in March I ended my membership well before my billing cycle and in April I was billed again! It's a little disconcerting that it's happened twice now. I have now blocked any transactions from them because I don't trust them not to bill me again! And on my statement it says it was keyed manually. Shady,.... Just shady as shit. read more

Swim FANATIC finally - and accidentally! - finds happiness. Just a few weeks after I joined Orangevale, the lap pool is being renovated and because I'm getting over an injury and have been out of the pool, I didn't realize it. So this morning I went ahead and drove an additional 6 miles to Sunrise where they honored my barcode during this time, and WHAT A DIFFERENCE! VERY welcoming, and it's a real sports/fitness facility (the lockers even have integrated locks!). The lap lanes and outdoor whirlpool are stellar. One of the staff even asked me afterwards how my swim went! Will likely switch membership locations a drive the 12 miles one way every day for the improved swim experience at Sunrise. read more

I have been a member of CalFit for almost 25 years, and it's sad to see how badly managed it is under InShape. The managers are unfriendly, the kids behind the desk rarely fill the sanitization stations without being asked, and trying to get a copy of a statement with the company name and address is impossible! All customer service is via email, no phone numbers. Emails are ignored. The chat feature is a very friendly and unhelpful AI bot. I've asked at the gym once and sent 3 email requests the past two months for a billing history, and nothing. I get reimbursed from my job for monthly gym membership, so this is a big financial hit. Management at the gym said "not my problem." I would discourage anyone from spending their money on a new membership at InShape. read more

December 2023 In regards to: Assistant General Manager, DJ  In-Shape Family Fitness,  Citrus Heights      As assistant general manager, He showed that he is willing to help when there is a challenge before him.  He calmed a situation down, that was a little tense despite me being frustrated as I showed towards him. He continued calmly working with me.  This assistant manager has true passion for his position and his employees.  He, with no doubt would be a great asset of being ''General manager," as he has much appreciation for his position.  This is a prime example of how to make all members and guest feel welcome. With recent changes with the gym becoming 'In-shape family fitness' I'm used to the old ways of checking in with a membership card.  I am not very tech savvy using an app on my phone.  With the help of Eric general manager in Orangevale and DJ, were able to keep being able to sign in via gym membership card.     As I was very adamant, My hope was not only to help myself in this position, but others that might have the same challenge using technology to be able to access the gym easily.  Many reasons why its always good to keep this option open to access using a gym membership card. Things can go wrong.     Simply put,  I'm glad this location has made the change of how people can sign in which is what I pushing for basically too keep the same.  This change covers all of the locations.  This couldn't have been done without the help of DJ (Assistant General Manager,  Citrus Heights) and Eric (General Manager, Orangevale.) My experience with this gym is very disappointing... I have been charged for an upgraded package that included tanning and other extra services, and I have never signed up for those service. When I was trying to resolve this issue I received zero support or understanding. The way the management team talked to me was very mechanical and robotic blaming " the big company policy". This club has a "new manager" and I think she racist. I'm sitting in the Jacuzzi with my daughter at 9 o'clock in the morning it is completely empty out here in the pool and in the Jacuzzi. I am completely in the Jacuzzi with her and we are just sitting and talking no splashing no playing just enjoying the quiet outside on a Saturday morning by ourselves and nobody is out here. New manager decides to walk out here and say that she is no longer allowed to be in the Jacuzzi which I get it's fine but the childcare is not open I planed to work out. Childcare is not open on the weekend so we adjusted and decided to use the other amenities since she is on my family plan that I pay for and it's October so it's not "hot" and my husband still wanted to play basketball with our older son. I felt picked on being that there are many other places she could have been and supervising being that it was completely empty in the pool area and I was present while just sitting and enjoying the spa with a member on my plan that I pay for and since childcare was closed and it's October we decided to use the Jacuzzi. there are people inside, working out with no shirts on women with sports bras, and not being spoken to. I felt targeted and it was not a good experience. She said she was a new manager and the rules that are going to be enforced. Need to be enforced throughout the club if she is going to pick on colored members. I pay a lot of money for 3 children on my account they don't even have access to childcare on weekends or after 7:30 on weekdays! Total scam!!!! I get rules are rules however, enforce all rules not an empty outside pool and spa and me just sitting talking to my daughter not making noise or even splashing. This gym is just too annoying. You have to jump through hoops to bring a guest. Nothing is ever updated in their system. It's just not a great place if you want to bring guests. We paid for it through our work to bring guests and still had to pay 25$ because their system said no. Too bad most businesses choose this place for discounts. THEY ARE THIEVES! I signed up for their month to month contract they recently promoted and after the first month, I decided I wanted to cancel. They charged me for another month a week after I cancelled and said it is in the fine print (section 9) that the "early cancellation fee" is not waived. I called corporate and they were nonchalant and stated that I should have read the contract thoroughly and it's on me that I did not read that section. When I signed up the sales lady told me that there were no fees to cancel and I can cancel anytime. I went back to the sales lady and told her what is going on and she said "it's not actually month to month for one month, we wouldn't make any money that way". What? Isn't that what month to month means??? So, they basically stole $115 from me, lied and they do not care one bit! I grew up going to cal fit and after this, I will NEVER be back and I am getting my friends and family to cancel as well and go somewhere where honesty and customer care is their top priority. read more

My three reasons for this single star is customer service, lying about facilities and unfair corporate rules. 1) I was told at a women's event that this gym had a indoor pool. This gym has no indoor pool and in fact the pool is oddly shaped so if you want to do laps you can't. The lack of maintenance to the pool was also a major concern. The inside pool lights had all but two on so you can barely see anyone at night. They also had only two flood lights working so you could see anything in the deep end of the pool. 2) Corporate rules don't allow you to place an individual member on hold for any reason including medical reasons or vacation or surgery unless everyone on the membership wants to be placed on hold. Which means if you break your foot you have to pay for everyone on the membership even if you can't use the club for months. 3) You can't add a member over the age of 21. My brother-in-law returned from the army and we were not allowed to add him to our current membership for any reason. He lives in our home, has limited income and he's part of our family. For these reasons. I highly recommend you place your money with another gym. They don't care about fairness or maintaining the gym you pay lots of money to be part of. Stay away!! read more

These short hours, especially on the weekends, makes it impossible for us to use our memebership so we cancelled and are waiting for them to have normal hours. I have had gym memberships in many different gyms like fitness 19 and 24 hour fitness 24 hours fitness is always crowded. Pool and steam room stinks. My 2 year pass was almost over and I started looking for different place to work out at. I went to fitness planet , crunch fitness etc.. I visited a family fitness and I called in love with it. The place is very big inside and it's clean that is very important with me. The locker room is big there are showers with body clean and shampoo. There are not a lot of people in any time of the day. The outside jacuzzi and pool is awesome. They have steam room that is always clean there are many machines. The outside parking is huge and there are plenty space to park the car. It's great that you can come and workout In that gym in a clean environment. I would highly reccomend this place. read more

I LOVE CalFit! I especially like the Citrus Heights location as it is close to my house and has all of the amenities I like - free weights, plenty of variety of fitness classes, and a pool. The hours are perfect for my schedule as I work full time and I run my own business in the evenings and on weekends. CalFit's convenient hours make it easy for me to fit a workout in at any time. I go to CalFit at least three days a week to stay healthy and fit and I will continue to do so. Oh! CalFit has a great point system for going to the gym and/or taking classes which you can redeem for free merchandise to a free PT session! read more

Going on vacation is hard... Only because my diet is out the window and the idea of exercising sounds like something I wish I could go tell my friend to do for me. Needless to say my consumption of sweets, sugar, and unlimited donuts takes place usually when I'm out of town. In this case, I manage to push myself to the nearest gym that I can find that will help me burn off some of these calories. It's hard to find a good place to work out when you're out of town so I usually look for an easy out. My friend is a member of this gym and I decided to go with her so I could feel a little less guilty about being a food garbage disposable the last few days. I have now been several times and all my experiences been good. They charge a $15 day rate but a girl in the front didn't charge me for one of the days. A few of the amenities I used... -Protein shakes/bars, clothing, and headphones. (For sale) -Rock climbing wall, free of charge! -Raquetball courts with free rental of racquetball and rackets! -Weights and cardio machines (the evil stair-master) -Basketball court -Spinning Studio -Crossfit area I had such a blast climbing up the rock wall. It seemed so easy and nothing like exercise until you're so sore the next day. We also had fun playing racquetball... If anybody had caught our game they probably would've been laughing at us but that didn't stop us! Having fun and sweating at the same time was the goal! The more I sweat meant more donuts! I tried out the gym yesterday. Brian was friendly and nice to me while there was still a chance I was going to sign up. I used the gym for a little while after the tour. The erg was so poorly calibrated it said I was rowing at twice the speed I actually was (like a treadmill saying I was running a 3 minute mile during warm up), some large man kept singing along to his rap music in the weight area, there's only 2 places to squat but one wouldn't work if you are shorter and squat to proper depth, there's no ability to swim laps in the pool, there's no area to deadlift, there's no place to do Olympic weightlifting and there's no bumper plates. It wasn't crowded but they didn't have a lot of the things I need to do my workouts and the atmosphere just felt...dingy? I hadn't totally made up my mind so when I was done I told Brian I needed the full week to think about if I want to join. That's when he stopped being friendly and started being rude and combative. I tried to tell him my concerns and he immediately cut me off to say how this gym is the only option for me in the area so if I want to join a gym I have to join this one. He also made some snarky comment about how money must not be an issue for me if I can pass up the free enrollment offer ending that night. Maybe I just don't want to waste my money on a gym I hate, no matter how cheap the enrollment fee is? I've joined another gym and I'm much happier with every aspect of it. I'm also super happy I don't have to deal with the sales people at this gym again Edit: Bryan only set up my trial to be a week after I asked and he did so reluctantly while making the snarky comments I mentioned above. I told them about this 3 months ago but nobody seems to give a rip. This business wants me to keep paying $40+ a month and they have no clubs open near me. I've been to three different Cal Fit locations and wow... This one by far is the BEST customer service I've ever experienced. You walk in and are greeted by happy people that fill your day with joy and on a mission for a great workout and accomplishments. It's a smaller gym (which is perfect) you don't have to wait to use a machine and or free weights. The sales staff is awesome and they recognize faces and keep tabs on there guests, which is awesome. I was thinking about canceling my membership because it can be pricy but I decided to stay because you can't beat great customer service like this anywhere. After an uncomfortable interaction with the new manager at this location I called in several times to find out what the story was. I called in three times and asked about the rude one, the manager who's kind of like a cold and rude. Without even explaining what he looked like on three separate staff members, all three quickly guessed, "it must be Larry." Common Calfit, you promoted a guy with a horrible customer service philosophy. That dude Larry is a jerk. And you've empowered that rude, cold jerk and he's already made your club with all of its maintenance problems less valuable even though the sauna and the cardio spaces are getting fixed. Yeah that stuff is important, but not more important than the "FAMILY" like respect that you've built your brand on. It's lost on me. You're values are reflected in Larry. Larry has already lost a significant value to your club. The price is cheeper other places. And now the value that has had me paying 30-40 more a month is lost, because of Larry's cold attitude and lack of respect. Larry convinced me that Family is just a word to y'all. read more
