I would give this gym five stars, but I have a few concerns. Overall, it's a good neighborhood gym, but over the years it has become more expensive and increasingly crowded. I also find it frustrating that the pool area is sometimes closed for children's swim lessons. While I understand the importance of those programs, it can be inconvenient considering I pay $79 a month and expect full access to the amenities. I had the most horrible experience with someone with the title of Assistant Manager David. When I signed for this gym I extremely ask if my kids could joint the gym. I pay $80 dollars a month. Title: Constant Towel Shortages, Dirty Steam Room, Rude Staff - Worst In-Shape Location by Far I've been a member at In-Shape on and off since 2014, and the Dover location in Fairfield is by far the worst I've seen in terms of cleanliness, staff attitude, and basic service--especially compared to the Suisun City location or any other nearby In-Shape. Let's start with the towels. This location routinely runs out of towels, especially on weekends. When I asked about it today around 6:15 PM, an employee at the front desk said, "The machine's been broken for about a month." That's completely false--they had towels just a few days ago. When I pointed out I pay $85/month including towel service, he smugly told me, "You don't pay for towel service--it's only for this club, not an add-on." What? That's insulting and dishonest. On top of that, the steam room is never cleaned properly, and it shows. It's often disgusting and smells bad. Members constantly complain about the lack of hygiene and cleanliness, but nothing is done. When I raised these issues, the employee became defensive and even threatened me, saying the GM, Venus, would email me to terminate my membership for staying a few minutes past closing--as retaliation for complaining. That is beyond unprofessional and petty. This location is poorly managed, staff lie to members, and basic services are not delivered. The attitude of the staff--especially tonight--was disrespectful and threatening. Venus, the GM, clearly does not enforce cleanliness or customer service standards. I've been an in shape member for almost 10 years. I stopped going during the pandemic and recently went back to Dover club. I really dislike the changes they have made to the weight room setup not to mention this gym has become pretty filthy. Just walking through the gym and the women's locker room I feel grossed out. There is dust everywhere, hair balls, the mirrors in the bathroom look like they've been through hell and back, and someone even put a tacky ass hand drawn aromatherapy machine near the sinks. Like what is going on? For a premium club it's giving raggedy. I can tell that the staff takes no pride in this club just by the lack of attention to detail, cleanliness, and literally no care for guest first impressions of the club. The weight room makes no sense and where they put the weighted barbells is so inconvenient. You can barely grab one without twisting and putting your back out since it's in a tiny corner all crowded. I dislike going here so much I started going to Elmira which is very clean and well kept. I can tell the staff are organized and well trained. Dover Club, do better. People are paying way too much money for your establishment to look so broke down. read more

I have no problem with the Dover InShape , my beef is with their IT , where ever that is, they have to be the most inept IT staff I have ever seen. Months ago my phone ap stopped working and even after multiple attempts to reach their IT the ap still does not work. I pay an extra $10 per month so I can schedule my time at the club a week in advance, this morning I went to check on my reservations , that I made last week, and they are not there just a message saying they are sorry for the inconvenience , which is very regular. The people at InShape HQ should really look into their IT department and make some changes. read more

This gym SUCKS!! The hot tubs worked half the time, the weight room is tiny and they charge an enormous amount!!! a bunch of the lockers are falling apart as well! I am a senior who has been a member of InShape for over 10 years. I have been so disappointed lately with the location on Dover. Machines are consistently out of order for months. Towel service is not on a regular basis due to their machines being out of order. Many days the paper towel and cleaning wipe containers are empty. Today the ceiling fans were out of order due to the staffing not knowing how to them on. Weather temps today 80. degrees. We pay more here than all the other location with the worst conditions. The one star is for the lack of communication as well as the lack of movement to right a wrong. I refered a friend 3 months ago and there was a promotion of " refer a friend get a month free ". I was informed for the promotion to work that they would have to be at the club for 3 months which it has now been over. Aug 2nd I wasn't supposed to be charged for my membership and about a week before I started speaking with people at the desk making sure everything would go smoothly. Of course the 2nd came and I was charged. It's now been almost 2 weeks and I still don't have a refund on a charge that should have never happened. I've been a member at InShape Club on Dover Ave in Fairfield for quite some time, even since the days of the Solano Athletic Club. Unfortunately, the quality of the gym has been steadily declining, and it's frustrating to see. The main issue for me lies with the equipment in the Fitness Studio. Three times this week, the microphone system has failed during classes, forcing instructors to yell instructions to avoid ending the class early. It's not the microphone itself but the entire system that's problematic. This not only disrupts the workout experience for loyal members but is also incredibly disrespectful to the instructors. They spend a great deal of time preparing for class, learning the routines, and taking time from their personal lives to provide an excellent workout experience. It's difficult to do this when the club is not equipped to manage excellence. The club's website states, "At our clean, spacious clubs, you can challenge yourself in the best studio fitness classes," but honestly, this is far from the truth at Dover Ave. Not only does the stereo equipment not work properly, but ceiling tiles continue to be loose and at times, even fall! It's not uncommon to see members cleaning the fitness studio floor before class, which is often filled with hair or has an ant trail running along the base of the mirrored wall. More importantly, the floor is consistently sticky. Countless times, members have tripped when their shoes get stuck during routines. This is not only a safety hazard but also a liability for the club. While I understand it might not be feasible to clean the floor (and mirrors) every day, perhaps 2-3 times a month would be a reasonable goal? Moreover, for those of us who have been loyal members since the Solano Athletic Club days, the membership rates are incredibly high, with no breaks for loyalty. New members are coming in at lower rates, and the continued hike in our monthly fees is frustrating when the quality of the gym is going down. It's really disconcerting to see our instructors work so hard to prepare for class only to find they're dealing with low-quality equipment. These are really great instructors with member followings, and I can't stress that enough. For those of you interested in joining this Club, think twice. read more

Love how the employees go out of their way to make members have an elevated experience. A lavender scented diffuser is a nice touch in the locker rooms. You will not find this at other clubs. They have so many workout machines and other members willing to teach and show a newbie how. Lockers are way too Narrow my gym Nag can't even fit! It feels like a scene in a scary movie. Shower head sucks I get it water conservation but anyway could be better. Sauna & steam room is under renovation so hopefully it gets done soon. All in all equipments are pretty good lots to use and very spacious not so Many people around like the other gym brands I usually go to. Although they gotta upgrade their smith machines I'm 5'2" so the rack is a bit too high or too low for me. and ab bench was wobbly. I wish they provide a personal spray bottle and not just have it on the wall it's inconvenient having to walk to where it is back and forth... Towels had old stain in them and very rough to touch. Well some of us members reserved lanes in the outdoor pool. It was 11:28 by the clock on the wall. The manager arrived to tells us we were late getting out and that the clock was slow. Ok manager if you know the clock is slow than fix it. She also had a raving Karen by her side who says she is contacting corporate because she was 2 minutes late getting her lane. Entitled little brat raved on at the manager for over 1/2 hour. Manager was very polite and did not push her into the pool. I would have . She began crying saying the manager had humiliated her in front of the 20 people who were getting out of the pool. got news for you sister - you humiliated your self by being such a Karen. Could not believe her behavior. She never did get into the pool and went to the dressing room crying. Says she had a baby. So what??? 90 percent of the women getting out of the pool have all had babies. It does not make you special. Grow up - if something terrible happened to you than you would have something to cry about. I am sure management/corporate will hear from her. Please note she is an entitled brat. read more

Love coming here, more so than than the Suisun one which is why we switched... great staff and a nice facility. They offer pretty much every piece of equipment known to man so there's no excuse to not get a good workout in. There's and indoor and outdoor pool & tennis courts. They also have a day care center for small children so again, no reason to not come work out. My only grip is some customers who do not clean/wipe down the equipment after they've sweat and put all their grime onto the equipment, just nasty. Also there's the occasional one or two male customers who do more staring at the women working out than they themselves actually workout, why spend money to come look others... I'll never understand that, lol. Side note: People pay way too much a month ($100+) to come work out with roaches, get an exterminator immediately. This is the second time I've come and seen a roach scurrying by. Also the same stair stepper has been down for over a month... again, get rid of it or fix it. read more

Manager Venus and assistant Kim need to be removed in order for this gym to come back to what it once was. Members are constantly complaining and these two "MANAGERS" seem to not be able to resolve problems. They never follow up when an issue comes up. Members have to constantly be the ones to look for someone to speak to. But, I'm sure if a member is late on their fees they would be calling. Also, the kids zone is badly managed children are not monitored properly. They need more staff or managers need to be managers and work to support there team. There's usually one person max 2 with 10+ kids some of them are babies. Come on there should be some kind of ration. At this point I'm contemplating of giving my money to planet fitness. At least I know I'm paying less with the same kind of management. read more

This gym has brought myself and my family so much joy! Simply the best people go out of their way to make you feel so welcomed and the gym is kept as nice as these staff can handle. I've seen so much improvement the last couple of months. Mary the pickleball coach is amazing and any new member that joins her class gets all her attention until they need it. But the very best is the children's room because without that I wouldn't be able to head to the gym so often, every person that works there does a tremendous job, especially Angelisia she has been kicking butt setting up all these cool kids activities lately and so much more for the gym! Every time I see her she's on her feet running around multitasking and giving it her all for the gym. I've been to multiple different in-shape gyms and Dover always has the best most fun environment by far! Never have I joined a gym like this before and I absolutely love that I found this gym when I moved out here to Fairfield! I wasn't going in and after placing my account on a continuous hold I finally decided to cancel my membership as there is a gym in the building where I work. When I did come to workout I was never really impressed, it always smelled there and the locker rooms were gross. The staff were always welcoming though. I have been a member for over a decade. This past weekend I had a very disheartening experience in which I was accussed of working out in the sauna. Another club member told the staff that I was in the sauna working out. This was an incident in which privilege and implicit bias played a major role in the actions of the staff. Apparently strecthing while black is is against the rules. The staff member came directly to me while I was seated on a mat in the sauna (the sauna is hardly ever cleaned and a mat is needed). They told me that I could not work out in there or have mats in there on the floor. When I tried to ask for the manager and corporate's contact information, they said that there was no manager nor was there any information for corporate. There were no attempts to apologize for the false accusation, further understand what really occured in the sauna, or ideas of how to move forward. I found a number for corporate however there is no capabilty to leave messages. I, along with another club member who witnessed the situation, have sent emails to Jyred Read and William Cervantes. Neither of us have recieved responses. In the very least as a valued member, I would have expected to get some follow up expeditiously. read more

The delays for the outdoor pool & spa now (June 2024) in addition to those in the past are unreasonable. If you join for a club that is very close to my home with promises of a choice in pools, it should be done in a timely manner, especially if this is the sole purpose of joining the gym is for pool services only. I shouldn't have to travel so far from my home club. Having to consolidate lanes for a club with 2 promised pools makes it almost impossible to reserve a lane. It is constantly booked full. Love this club but maintenance services needs much better management. read more

The Inshape at Dover has really gone down hill. The outside pool and hot tub have been under construction since March, the women's locker room is dirty and when they do clean it it is when the water aerobics class ends and you have to wait for them to finish to be able to take a shower. Classes get canceled and instructors teach them anyway without pay. Most offensive is the new manager who when you try to speak to her goes off subject about all the things that she has to handle and does not address what you are trying to talk to her about. She cuts you off when you try and explain you point to her. She screams things at you during the conversation like "are you going to listen to me" and then accuses you of screaming at her. I guess her next step is to threathen me with canceling my membership like she did to another member. read more
