So they have the absolute worst freaking ordering system in the known universe. Just horrid, I watched two people leave the place because they couldn't navigate it. Ok. I never consider airport food review worthy. Maybe it's because "good airport food" is an oxymoron. A unicorn. It's why I avoid eating in airports all together and just do protein bars until I get to my destination. Well I was on my way back from Quebec with a layover in Philadelphia. I wanted something - maybe a Philly Cheesesteak but did not hold out hope. I walked to terminal B gate 5 where I was flying out of to get home. There across from B5 was Independence Prime. I was impressed with the real wood-fire grill AND what I was really searching for draft beers. I pulled up to the bar and ordered a 20 oz. Dos Equis (they come in 20 oz! I said in my best Pippin voice - Lord of the rings reference) since I had 2 hours before my flight left. Then I saw it. The cook was making a Philly Cheesesteak right before my eyes. I grabbed my camera and filmed it. Fresh food. I stumbled through order tablet and waited. I also ordered some onion rings. I was still curious but did not want to be disappointed- after all, this is an airport. I got my food and my life was suddenly filled with hope. The Philly was excellent. The bread was so fresh. The rings were good too. Add this one to your list if you are ever passing though the Philadelphia airport. It's on my radar now. read more

This place is so customer unfriendly. prices are sky high, you have to go the whole work yourself on an app that is very non intuitive and bugged and they even charge you 18% tip for doing nothing. I stopped in before my flight to grab breakfast. Ordering on their electric devices is fast and easy plus getting my order in so quick allowed for my food to come out amazingly fast also thanks to the great kitchen staff. My server Tyreek was phenomenal. He was polite, friendly and quick to get me anything I needed with a smile. This is not the service I expected at an airport restaurant and I am so pleasantly surprised. He made he experience that much more enjoyable. I ordered a mushroom Swiss omelet, a coffee and had a window seat where I could watch he planes pull in and out. The last is a most appreciated added perk to the location of this great restaurant. Yes, I paid more for my omelet at this place then grabbing a muffin on the go but it's well worth the service and prime seating to slowly enjoy you're food after the rush through security. read more

Not crazy about this place, I mean what kind of place does not have ranch dressing? The Philly steak sandwich was good, but I did not care for the skinny fries at all. You order on an iPad so you can't really get anything custom. Not to mention it was difficult to get an ice water because they don't offer that in the iPad and only offer $4 drinks. Forget about getting a refill on that water. Trying to get anyone attention to get a box is also difficult. The establishment commented below like they cared, but I contacted them as requested and they have not responded to my email. I guess this comment below is only to try and make them look better in Yelp. Now I'm switching to a one star. read more

Taco Bell is a classier establishment, with better food - and I won't even eat at Taco Bell. $35 of inedible food and drink that looks nothing like the pictures. Service was non-existent - dropped off the food with not so much as a how do you do, and no napkin or utensils. I walked away without eating in search of a place with actual food. read more

As many know that the Philadelphia Airport has a ton of dining options within the terminals and I just so happen to choose Independence Prime in Terminal B and I'm glad I did. This establishment gives you the option to order directly through your phone by simply scanning the QR code associated with the spot you choose to sit at or you can go old school and ask for a paper menu - so don't worry for those that do not have smart phones, you are welcome here ha ha. Without any further hesitation, I want to share my experience today - Service is great, smiles everywhere. Cooks are on point - slow ON Purpose because they make sure that every meal goes out hot and visually appealing- how do I know, the kitchen is an open concept, making it ever so easy to watch the Chef and cooks perform their magic. Onto taste.... You will not go wrong here as I had one of the most delicious burgers in a while. Perfectly cooked as I requested, wonderfully plated for visual perfection and presented by the more than qualified service staff. Waiting for my connecting flight, decided to grab a quick bite. I was actually quite pleasantly surprised with Independence Prime, as I generally have low expectations of airport restaurants. The Good: I got kale salad, dressing on the side (an option I specified via iPad menu). Hubby got steak and fries. Food came out quickly, and was delicious. The entire restaurant team was working fast, serving a few dozen tables, and were a pleasure to watch, as they joked and teased one another. The Bad: Would have been nice if the server refilled our waters. The Ugly: The ambience didn't quite land for a romantic dinner. Extremely expensive for what is actually delivered. I ordered the "Classic Caesar Salad," because the word "Classic" infers that it is a real Caesar Salad and not just a small pile of chopped romaine lettuce thrown into a bowl with some cheap grated cheese, accompanied by a tiny amount of "Caesar Dressing" out of a jar (there is actually no such thing as "Caesar Dressing," if you are making a CLASSIC Caesar Salad -- it has an actual recipe). What did they deliver, for $14.95? Yep: Chopped Romaine lettuce (actual recipe calls for "hearts of romaine," not the end part of the leaves), sprinkled with some kind of white grated cheese (definitely not Parmigiano Reggiano), and a sorry little bowl of dressing to stick your fork into. I would bet that their actual cost on this dish was under .50 cents, making it a 30-times-cost profit margin. That's pretty cynical, even for a big chain restaurant like this one! They could double the amount of Romaine lettuce, and increase their cost by about .25 cents. If corporate food is your thing, and you don't mind overpaying for something inferior to what you thought you were ordering, then this might be the place for you. Otherwise, skip it. read more

What a cool concept... sit at a table with an iPad and order when you scan your boarding pass. The downside is limited service interaction if you don't want to be that guest to wave a server over to you. I ordered a build your own omelet with cheese, peppers, onions, and spinach that came with a mimosa. With tip and an additional ~$1 per add-on my total was around $30. The food itself was decent... they forgot my toast though. The plates were too small for the amount of food and things kept falling off on to the counter, which was a little dirty. My potatoes were covered in too much salt and old bay seasoning, but cooked well. I think next time I'll explore some other options from PHL international. read more

Haven't reviewed in a while, but felt I had to post this for Independence Prime. First, they have an actual wood grill. A wood grill which has big flames - in a large Airport! I travel a lot, never seen that domestically. So, that also means they "cook you food to order". Another unusual thing in an airport. More importantly the food is outstanding. I ordered wings - delicious- and the grilled skirt steak - awesome. Fries weren't hot and a little undercooked, but who cares? I had a deliciously marinated and perfectly wood grilled steak! Is it perfect - for an airport damn close. My service was fast but they weren't that busy. Definitely more worthy than their posting - possibly people who aren't used to traveling expect the same price level and service as their neighborhood joint... Will definitely come again! read more

Overpriced airport food is always difficult to review. With the inflation of prices given where you are, the quality of food should be superb, especially when it comes to simpler things like breakfast. Independence Prime just didn't have it. Before our flight to Vegas, we popped by here for a bite to eat. The concept is a decent idea - iPad like devices at every table where you can order your food, play games, read news, etc. However, it takes away from there being decent service, as the only time you get to talk to a server is when they bring out your food. There was no option for a glass of water, so I ended up ordering a $10 or so bottle of Fiji water. I also wanted hot sauce after I ordered and wasn't sure how to go about asking for it besides pushing through the bachelor party taking shots at the bar to ask. Our food came out about 10 minutes apart. I tried to wait to eat mine but decided to dive in so I wasn't eating cold eggs. I ordered their take on a cooked full English breakfast. The eggs were cooked perfectly over-easy, and the sausage and bacon were phenomenal quality - their saving grace. However, the toast was soggy, and the only thing that it included to make it seem like an English Breakfast was the tomato - bland tasting and the bread crumb topping slid off the basically raw tomato. No mushrooms, beans, black pudding.. Maybe a decent place for lunch/dinner, but skip this place if breakfast is your goal. read more

This is probably the 'business model of the future' because WHEN a issuer arises, on-site 'managers' are literally powerless to assist and you must submit complaints via a unmonitored website portal - the phone number does not even work! So I placed a good order and at the 1 hour mark, I had only received a soda. I had to board a plane, and staff said 'sorry we can't refund you, you cannot cancel your order, and there is no manager that can assist - you can report problems online'. NEVER AGAIN read more

In a span of five minutes, I overhead three separate people have issues with payment being processed but the order was never received. I work for one of the major airlines and fly through PHL on average once a month. I love Philly Cheesesteaks so I have taken upon the quest of finding the best Cheesesteak in Philadelphia airport. After trying Independence Prime I would consider it within my top two out of the 7 I have tried so far. The Cheesesteak was one of the best I have had, the only downside was the standard hoagie roll they put it on, but the steak, cheese, peppers and onions were fantastic. This has one of the more unique environments to eat at, sitting at the bar or near the open kitchen is fun to see them prepare your meal fresh and hot. I did order this around 2pm on a Sunday when the terminal was not as busy so I got my food within 10 minutes of ordering. This could greatly vary depending on how full the seating is. Why I rank it in top two and not outright first. The Cheesesteak was definitely number 1, but comparing it to my close number 2. Number 2 runs about $4 cheaper for the sandwich and fries. My Cheesesteak with peppers and onions with an order of fries was only $22 that is very standard for a meal at an airport restaurant. I would definitely be going back after I work my way through a few more places read more

Was flying out of Philadelphia airport and with time to kill, stopped here for lunch. I had high hopes for the place because it looked nice but personally, I think there has to be better options to eat in that airport. The food was just OK. I had the fish and chips, which came out nicely presented. The fish had a little too much batter so at times, I felt like all I was eating was batter. This is an airport restaurant in Philadelphia terminal B. I had a wedge salad which was nothing great and definitely overpriced. I ordered steak on it, and they did give you quite a bit. They were skimpy on everything else. There was hardly any bacon and even less onions. The blue cheese was also scarce. However on the ordering kiosk they should ask how you like your steak cooked. The only reason I ate here was because I was at the Philly airport and this restaurant was located in the same terminal as my flight. There's a large bar with a nice ambience and tables surrounding the bar. The tables and bar area all have tablet service where you order your drinks, food, etc from the tablet instead of telling a waiter. You also pay and tip on the tablet so you don't have to wait for the waiter to bring you a check which is helpful if you're in a hurry. The tablet was very easy to use and surprisingly, we still had a waiter that came to check on my table and clear plates. We ordered 3 appetizers to share and they were all surprisingly pretty good for an airport restaurant. The food was definitely not the best and I wouldn't go here if I wasn't at the airport but I give them props for having friendly, quick service and decent food. The food also came out pretty quick. I would say that this experience was probably the worst dining experience I have ever encountered, period. First of all, the food bar attendant seemed annoyed and inconvenienced that he had to serve us. The worst part about this restaurant is that you HAVE TO order through their tablet, and it's confusing and not set up well -- several people at the food bar were complaining. There is NO option to pay cash, and you MUST put your name and address in their system. We realized we ordered two duplicate drinks, and to reverse the order, or to even receive a credit was an absolute nightmare. The only way this could be done was to fill out yet another inquiry to the website that did not work well in the first place. I will have to dispute the charge to my credit card company. The Manager was of no help. The food was marginal. Go somewhere else -- it's a big airport. Do not support this impersonal and technologically handicapped method of ordering and paying! read more

Traveling at breakfast, it's still expensive, but it's no more expensive than anything else in terminal B---or for that matter, anything else at the airport that uses actual eggs rather than disgusting egg patties (and at breakfast, eggs are all there ever is at airports). Huevos rancheros were just fine. Eggs were cooked nicely, sauce had some flavor, beans and cheese were too dry and tortillas were soft but flavorless.
