This place is a rip-off. No prices are posted until you go through a number of tablet screens. I had difficulty with the menu and the tablet. I was able to flag down a server to assist with ordering. We ordered four things, a bottle of water, a glass of wine, a beet salad and a chicken quesadilla. Items were brought to the table haphazardly. They forgot the beet salad and the quesadilla was what I would consider a half order. The server who helped with the order indicated that there was an arbitrary tip required. With the poor quality of service I would never leave a tip for the total lack of service. We had to ask for our order to get served what we ordered. We were totally shocked that these four things came to a total of $83.45!!!!! It wasn't worth half that amount. Airport food is understandably more expensive that your neighborhood restaurant, but this was absurd, unethical and fraudulent. Full disclosure, the only reason I ate here was because I was in the airport, and they were playing the football game I wanted to watch. I wasn't expecting anything outstanding, but I was surprised. The modern, electronic, and impersonal ordering system didn't deter the waitress from giving me decent service, which included refilling my water...not something I typically experience during airport layovers. The food was also super tasty! I couldn't pass up the opportunity to have a Philly Cheesesteak in Philly, and it did not disappoint! The presentation with the salad was also respectable. The one thing I am questioning is the use of ketchup. I'm not sure if that was muscle memory from the cook since the sandwich comes typically with fries, or if people actually dip their Philly in ketchup? Independent Prime is a different dining experience, that may end up being the future of eating out. What I mean by that is this, everything you order is through a iPad (large menu). If your not familiar with using one, it's nothing to worry about. (Non intimating) It's set up very simple and and straight forward. Payment is credit card only, but when it comes to the tip, you can leave a electronic one or cash. Alot of the food is cooked up front on an open grill behind their huge bar. The food came out pretty fast and was hot. I ordered the Philly cheese steak. The bread was nice and soft, and the meat and cheese was very good. It came with a side of fries. My wife ordered the fish and chips and a side of onion rings. The fish was good, but it had way to much breading on it. The onion rings was the real deal. My kids ordered the burger which also came with fries. The burger was huge and it was so good they ate the whole thing. The waiters was very helpful and friendly. The atmosphere is what you're after here. The food is... well crappy. Service was good even great but geez crazy overpriced and sooooo mediocre. My nachos were basically a pile of broken chips with lukewarm ballpark cheese - yuk. The burger I ordered arrived without the cheese I added on for $2 and when I sent it back for cheese it took three times as long. Why- no idea???? It was meager to say the least. Peach julep was tasty but not necessarily worth the $15 I paid, today's wings were decent but far from the best I've ever had. On a positive note, I really enjoyed the food and drinks! The pre-tipping and ordering on the iPad is NOT a great idea in my opinion. You order off of a screen and there is NO way to add any notes to the order. Service is lacking in cohesion, a couple of servers were very nice, a couple had a surprisingly, completely dismissive attitude and rude. Unfortunately the rudeness of a few put a sour taste on the food and total experience. For a tab of 2 appetizers and 2 drinks, tab of over $60.00, as customers we'd of liked to have the option of choosing how much to tip based on service, not be expected to pre-tip when placing an order on a iPad? Might be nice for customers to have that option post service? If the service can match the food, I'd give it more stars. read more

I don't like Philadelphia airport, but I have to make the most of my time when I'm there so I'm not miserable. Lost a cellphone a few years back and lost and found was no help. Still kind of holding a grudge. With an hour and some change to spare between flights and an empty stomach, I made my way over to Independence Prime (the name of which I did not know until I checked in on Yelp) and sat down at the counter. I know not many people are a fan of the iPads, but I love the lack of interaction. Some people may not be in the mood for conversation or exchanges with a server. We just like to eat, mind our business, and leave and the presence of iPads make the socially introverted comfortable. I scanned through the menu, wondering what would ease my tummy. I didn't want to go overboard because I would be boarding eventually and wanted time to enjoy my food, but then I wanted to get my money's worth because airport restaurants are expensive. I could have gotten something big and bagged half of it, but the smell of someone opening their food on an airplane makes me nauseous for some reason and I didn't want to curse anyone else. I settled on some spare rib tips with tots and two over easy eggs for about $13. Not too bad. After placing my order, I spent 10 minutes watching the chef cook a batch of onions and bell peppers. Wow, that smell was unreal! Watching him work caught my attention, which was a shame because my food was actually done. He made it as soon as I placed it and put the plate under the hot lamps. Took them too long to deliver my goods! A server eventually came around with my meal and some silverware and I was ready to dig in. Fortunately, neither the flavor or texture suffered. The spare rib meat was sooo tender. Like surprisingly tender. Not the type of quality I was expecting from an airport dish that had been sitting out for too long. The gravy was super herb-y and mixed well with the creaminess of the egg yolks (which were a perfect over easy). Put all of that on a fork with a tater tot and you're set! Definitely worth the $13. I'll be looking forward to going back one day and I'll get the exact same thing. Maybe even one for the plane ride, who knows? My only bit of advice is to work on getting your dishes out to people quicker and cleaning the tables and counters before someone has a chance to sit down. read more

Man I honestly wasn't expecting anything great here. I was going to just get a fast food sandwich but a friend told me this place was solid and I thought I'd splurge and give it a shot. It doesn't make much sense getting a Philly cheesesteak at the airport but this one was amazing. Thin beef, great wiz and I added peppers. Fries were perfectly cooked. It was great and I'm craving it again now. People giving bad reviews seem like boomers who don't like iPads to order. I liked it. Easy and quick with a lot of detail. Not even sure where to start.... The bad food or the stupid iPad ordering system. Think I'll go with the ordering process. No waitress, just iPads setup everywhere shoving adverts down your throat. Ordering is simple, but they try and force upsells on you. The food - worst steak I have had in decades. Certainly worst in Philly. Seriously, if you are stuck in the airport and need to eat, go somewhere else. Waste of money here. Even if it is someone else's money, still not worth it. When I walked up to the bar area, I wondered why every single seat had their own little iPad and credit card swiper right in front of you. Here's what I think...they want to minimize employees and people interacting with one another. This has got to be the most ridiculous idea they mustered up. You order your food, drinks and then swipe your card. They IMMEDIATELY put a dollar amount onto your card that your bank takes out. Sort of like a "hold". Here's the kicker, if you want to order another drink, you have to swipe your card AGAIN, just to have ANOTHER hold put on your card. The downfall...your bank will start flagging all of these $30, $40, $50 holds coming out of your account and you won't be able to purchase anything else because now your account is locked due to the bank thinking someone else is using your card. Oh..and you can't pay with cash!!! That's really the only thing that blows my mind at this place. However, they had these stations set up at all of the other places as well. The food was very good however. We had the Philly Cheesesteak with American Cheese. I mean, you can't come to Philly and not have a Cheesesteak. It's big enough to split...seriously. The self ordering system here is not good. Every table has a tablet for order taking. You must prepay for your order. The kitchen got my order wrong. The tablet has a button for calling the server but no one responded to three requests over 10 minutes. I asked the bartender to send someone who could fix my order, which took another 10 minutes. I read the mixed reviews but this is clearly the nicest looking and cosmopolitan place in terminal b. At first I didnt really understand the ipad ordering format, but a very sweet waitress (and petite, didnt rememer her name) came by and did a great job of heping me out. I had the chicken quesadilla, it was hot and melted and served with salsa and guacamole. It was a meal unto itself and possibly the best quesadilla I have ever had. Absolutely horrific service. The iPad was so frustrating to navigate, and it ended up closing my tab before I was done ordering. The fish that was posted out on the menu outside, was NOT on the iPad. The "call server" button either doesn't work, or Princess put me on the "pay no mind" list. Food came before I even got my water. Princess didn't come by, so I went in search for my own utensils. She came by later, but still no drink. The iPad then closed out my check, so when I went to order a beer, it was going to be separate. I called Princess over again, and waited. When she showed up, she said, "oh yeah, just swipe your card again". Really? She then told me she would come back to pick up my plate, but here's a picture of it 20 minutes later as I was getting up to go find a place with better service to give my money to. You are better off passing this place by, trust me! Food was ok, a little overpriced, even for an airport. This is a terribly overpriced place that eliminates any sense of socialization. You sit down and order from a tablet which eliminates some of the customization you may need and then you are required to pay in advance including tip so the fact that we got horrible service or actually pretty much no service did not matter because you tip in advance. We ordered an appetizer and sandwiches... they came out at the same time and needless to say none of them were any good.
