This place is the bees knees! Baloo is like the coolest. Whenever I bring a someone new there, he always gives them this mini sampler which is incredibly helpful! Tiny bowl with all the popular items in the hot section- about half a spoon full each so you can get an idea of what you'd like. With becoming vegetarian for I think a good coming while; it's nice to have this place so close. Go with the garlic naan which is a delicious and always fresh out whatever the heck they cook it in, flat bread to dip all your foods with! Anyone remember that episode of The Simpsons where they go over to Apu's for dinner? Marge is complementing Manjula and asking what's in this- "Chickpeas and lentils"... And what's in that? Came here for the first time with my friend a couple days ago and was pleasantly surprised. Most of their dishes are vegetarian which is nice. We told the guy behind the counter that it was our first time at this restaurant and he gave us a little sample plate. He was super nice and really helpful. My friend got a plate that was two vegetable choices with rice and it comes with naan for only $6! I decided to get some samosas and a paneer parantha. The parantha took awhile to come out- around 7ish minutes so I was a little put off by that. When it did come it was not as tasty as I would have liked it to be, but it wasn't horrible either. Two vegetarian combos and an extra pakoda. This was delicious. Almost too much food between the combo and the giant piece of garlic naan. And exTREMEly affordable. The gentleman behind the counter asked if it was our first time and we said 'yes.' He then dished up a bowl with a taste of everything we could eat that was vegetarian and let us see what we liked. I've only been here once. I remember somewhat liking the food however the place is filthy. I knew I should've trusted my instinct. It's not hard to tell when a restaurant is dirty and has roaches. I didn't see any myself but I knew the place was dirty. One of the reviews mentions cockroaches in plain sight and they uploaded a Pic so yes, they have cockroaches. I was really in the mood for some India food because I was in India about a month ago. So I yelp and this placed popped up and it was near my hometown so I was like waaaa India food in the SGV and vegetarian? Needless to say I made a good choice but my partner didn't like the food at all. It's sort of an acquired taste to be honest because the food doesn't really look appetizing but the flavor and the heat they pack are what makes Indian dishes I think personally. With that said the food is authentic because I was just in India eating street vendor food and this place is pretty much on point and it's super cheap. We have been going to india fresh for quite some time 6months to a 1yr, the produce and selection of items for sale is great. The options available for the combos/plate lunchs is perfect. Every dish they make honestly is amazing, the flavor and spices you cant beat. The samosas, garlic naan, and chipati are excellent. a laid-back, inexpensive, and, most importantly, absolutely deliciously authentic indian food spot seemingly randomly located in a random strip mall located next to big 5's. definitely not a fancy place - a few booths spotting in a grocery store with the back corner reserved for the kitchen and 4 items (when we went it was eggplant, veggie yellow curry, mushroom red curry, and beans) ready to go. friendly service with a family feel - as we were eating there was a constant stream of what seemed like regulars. the hubby got the two-item special and we enjoyed the eggplant (fresh, tender, but slightly oily) and mushroom (saucy and fresh with that perfect amount of subtle spicy kick) with a side of garlic naan, rice, and yogurt sauce. i ordered the MASALA DOSA and was blown away! a definite must order! the dosa (thin crepe) was so light, thin, and fresh. it was perfectly crisp on the outside yet still chewy with a hint of sweetness. the potato stuffing was enjoyable as was the side soup (although i prefer it a little less watery) and loved the red sauce! the grocery store part also has a good selection of indian delights, particularly chocolates, snacks, and plenty of sauces and various rices. we enjoy the frozen section too - we spotted indian hot pockets and couldn't resist buying a few to try! they also have freshly made indian sweets and a small fresh veggie section too. for less than 5 bucks a person for a tasty and authentic indian dinner, we're definitely coming back here! read more

Went in here for some chicken tikka masala and was not disappointed! I've been to a few Indian places and although this is a small place, it is definitely good. It's a tiny bit like cafeteria style, but they give you some good portions, I was stuffeddd. I'll start off with the positives: friendly service and cheap. While I was looking at the dishes, the guy started making a little sampler without me even asking. It was nice of him, but wholly unnecessary since I was just looking. Of course guilt got the better of me, so I figured for $6 I'd get a combo plate with the garlic naan (no extra charge for the garlic, which is nice) with the two better-tasting dishes. I got the paneer makhani and okra/celery dish. I thought the garlic naan was pretty good, but even though I could visually see the garlic, I couldn't taste it (I tried it fresh by itself). Now, for the actual dishes. I'll preface this by saying I like my Indian food saturated in flavor. Indian food can be very salty, especially vegetarian Indian food, but this place's food was actually, dare I say it, bland (by Indian food standards). I liked the cheese in the paneer makhani, but the actual sauce could've used so much more flavor. It tasted more like Malaysian curry than anything else. As for the okra/celery (which I originally thought was onions), it was okay. The okra was cooked well. Surprisingly, I tried it the next day while it was cold and it tasted better. I could actually taste some curry flavor, which I couldn't when it was hot. Overall, I found their dishes to be bland and tasteless and wouldn't go back for the food even if I lived nearby, which I don't, fortunately. However, their market looked promising if you are local and into cooking Indian food. read more

Winner for Veggie Army's Best So Far List for Best Garlic Naan. They say that their secret (which isn't one anymore) is that they use a real tandoori oven in the back. If you can't find it. .. You're probably too South in West Covina... Keep going north and you'll find it. Although it doesn't look like it from the store front, there is a small cafe inside. Unlike other Indian store/cafes I've been to, this establishment is clean, spacious, and well lit. Now, the veg dishes are in a warming tray, but they make the naan and the samosas fresh to order which I highly recommend you order both. After I said that we were new to the store and to Indian food, our wonderfully hospitable server/ host/ cashier was nice enough to let us try each of the veg dishes before we decided. Affordable Indian food without the long drive to Artesia! The cashier was really nice and gave us a sample of the 6 hot veggie/curry dishes. We were ordering 3 combos and all the samples tasted good so we got one of each (2 for each combo). My all time favorite is the palak paneer (spinach and cheese). Not spicy but it's delicious over rice or dipped with garlic naan. Of course, I had to get myself a Mango Lassi, cuz what meal is complete without one? Sorry .. Not feeling it. I have had wayyyyyy better food at Grocery stores than this one. Food was all watery, tasteless . Chicken was rubbery. Awful to say the least. Aloo Gobhi was the only thing that I would say was fairly decent. Ate it all as I was starving however. I came here because I saw the 5 star reviews on yelp as we were in town to play a game and we're craving Indian food. Very disappointed with my food today. The staff were friendly, however, the food was terrible. I ordered a dosa - no flavor and soggy with sambar that was murky - hardly any ingredients, the chutney was barely green and not-flavorful. I also ordered the chole batura - and the chole was salty and poorly spiced. The store was dusty and disorganized. I observed a staff member preparing my food rub his nose then wash his hands under the faucet in the kitchen without soap. I won't be back. read more

this is a wednesday favorite for lunch. they have a little food cart & kitchen in the back of the market. we usually get the two combo special in a to-go box since its enough food for two meals. for under $7, you get a 3 compartment box. larger compartment is filled with rice (rice is SO good!!), and you can fill the other 2 compartments with a side of your choice. they generally have about 6 options to choose from - all vegetarian. on wednesdays they have a vegetarian tika masala that uses cheese, and it is delish! it also comes with fresh garlic naan and a yogurt sauce. the workers here are always really friendly. service is fast and efficient - perfect combination for a work lunch! read more

This appears to be one of the few Indian stores in the San Gabriel Valley, and I wanted to come here because a buddy at work had turned me on the Hide & Seek Murano cookies, which happens to be sold here. When I actually got here, the place was sort of in a state of disarray. Items were stacked in the aisles and it just seemed chaotic. They had a pretty decent selection of items, so you can probably get something without having to drive down to Artesia. Thankfully, they had my cookies in stock! I was greeted by an extremely friendly gentleman, who offered me some samples of their food (vegetarian, BTW, which I am not), and I actually purchased one of their dosas. I was very impressed with this little market/restaurant. They have some authentic indian food for sure. Not a huge selection, I assume they have different types of foods on different nights. All vegetarian which is very nice. The flavors were great!! Very good deal as well, $5 for 2 veggie dishes, rice, raita and some yummy thick nann bread. The market has a good selection of spices, rice, lentils, curry pastes, etc. The man working there was very nice and helpful as well. They have a small selection of Indian movies too. My dining companion and I had lunch at this small Southern Indian-style vegetarian restaurant. I would have never noticed it because it's in one of those gigantic strip malls. The restaurant space is tucked in the back of a small grocery. I've eaten at several places like this and this one stands out: The food is authentic (best sambar in SoCal), it is spotlessly clean, it's run by religious Sikhs and the food is excellent. My dining companion and I had masala dosa, which is a pancake made with fermented lentil batter, rolled and stuffed with a spicy potato mixture and served with a side of sambar (legume soup). It was light, crisp and the filling was delicious. The sambar redefined my idea of sambar--light, flavorful and beautifully seasoned. We also tried a vegetable curry (delish!) and samosas, which I could eat by the handful. The samosas came with condiments: mint chutney, coconut chutney (hot!) and a tamarind chutney; all were wonderful. If you think Major Grey's is chutney, you won't like these authentic chutneys. India Fresh has what some people will think of as drawbacks: It is self-serve. You order at the counter and go back when the cook calls you. You eat off of Styrofoam plates and drink water or tea you serve yourself into a disposable cup. The Indian patrons will stare briefly if you are not Indian. But the food is very good, inexpensive and authentic. India Fresh is the best of its kind on the area. Compare it to India Sweets and Spices in Duarte and you'll see what I mean. read more

This small mom and pop market is located in an old strip mall. To be honest, there two reasons it is still open. The first, it is the only Indian market for miles. Second, it is next to the 99 cent store and a fast food pizza...so it gets more than its fair share of business. Now for the brutal truth.... the store itself is not well organized and i. The back of the store there is ready made hot foods in warmers. By the looks of it, the food appears that it has been sitting in the hot chafers for well over 3-4 hours. The produce that is offered for sale were bot well refrigerated but the worse was the attitude of the worker at the store. First, he was nowhere to be found and then once spotted he was wearing no gloves, and not the proper attire as he was in the back kitchen. Second, when I asked a question, he glanced and pretended not to hear me. I had to ask the same question 4x before i got a smug answer. If I weren't in such a pinch and needed a particular spice, I would've dropped the item at the counter and walk out. During these COVID times, hygiene and proper food handling is important. Not too mention, providing great customer service. I will never go back. If I need spices from that region, i will gladly hope on the 605 south and make my way to Little India, in the City of Artesia.... very disappointing read more

I came here with my bf to find a specific sauce and to try their food. There was no one here when we entered, only workers. But the workers were outside because they just got a shipment but no one was there to help us or greet us. We first looked at the sauces but they don't have the sauce that we were looking for so we just decided to browse around and found some of the sauces were open. The only good thing about this place is that the prices aren't that bad. They just don't have a large selection. We tried to go and see what food they had but no one was behind the counter so we decided not to get anything and it seemed like the food has been sitting out for a long time. One of my favorite places to visit for inspiration in Indian cooking. They have a full spice and dried goods market in the front and a small dining area for fresh vegetarian food in the back. On my last trip I only went in for some mixed vegetable aloo and spicy eggplant...so fantastic. The "Food Special" consists of two vegetable sides, basmati rice, raita and chapati.
