Himalayan Cafe is in downtown San Dimas. We had dinner on a Sunday night and it was pretty quiet in the area. We had no problems getting parking and we realized that we were the only customers in the restaurant that day. It seems that most people coming by were taking food to go. The decor inside was so bright blue and decorated with flags and various posters on the walls, with relaxing music playing in the background. Our server was friendly and attentive and the prices are reasonable for what you get. Even the beer prices are good! My picky eater 2nd child had nothing but great things to say about everything we ordered (very rare) and ate up everything. We mentioned that we had nut allergies and our server said that they do not have any nut products in their food, even if the menu mentioned it, because of a lot of nut allergies with customers. We went to the Himalayan Cafe again and had a great experience. The food is always fantastic. I will admit that we use Groupon but the food is just as good whether you do or don't do that. My daughter had the vegetable korma (extra spicy) and I had the shrimp pakora and cheese pakora, my wife had Dahl soup. She also ordered naan bread and rice. Service is great always, friendly never have had a bad experience. The ambiance is fantastic, it makes you feel like you're back in the Nepal. So I guess you realize by now it's Nepalese food which is similar to Indian food but with its own unique characteristics. You can always talk to the owner the staff or the cooks they're happy to speak with you even if you don't speak Nepalese. You're need to try this place. It's fantastic and authentic especially for this area. They have a shop next door if you'd like to buy authentic Nepalese and Indian type of wear and items. This place is still so delicious. They added a salmon option to the thali plate that is just beyond. Better than any food I had in the actual Himalayas. Although obviously there are other attractions! First rate service. This is an excellent place. read more

Our favorite for Indian cuisine. My husband's go to is their chicken tika masala, mine is the saag paneer. To get more veggies we add the aloo gobi. Had a Groupon deal from this place so we went there for an early dinner. Pretty decent Himalayan/Indian food. Had the lamb vindaloo, mixed grilled and Lamb Biryani. The vindaloo was good and a bit spicy. The mixed grilled is a bit dry and the biryani was a bit wet. All over it was decent. Our server was very tentative. Always consistently good. We've been to the Pasadena and San Dimas locations, I don't know, 100+ times over the last 8 years? We typically just get our usual orders these days (a lamb thali, masala sauce, chicken and paneer tikka, etc.), but I think everything we've ever tried (and we've tried maybe half the menu by now) has been anywhere from solid to great. Quality has been pretty consistent over all this time, too. I think there might've been once or twice where something was a miss, like we ask for Extra Spicy on something but they might've missed that note, but that's alright since their food is super flavorful and delicious even when mild. There's a few items I've seen at other Nepalese places that I wish they had (like aloo chili, since they already have chicken and lamb options, or jhol momo, since they already have momos) but when I'm thinking "i wish they had more things we like" it means the restaurant is great. Service is always awesome. Super nice people every time I've went. I guess some of them might recognize me at this point because we're there so much, but idk. :) (Also, there's a cool shop right next to the restaurant.) read more

I love love loved the butter chicken, that curry sauce had a life it's own! The vegetable pokoras are so good with the 2 difference chutney dipping sauces!! Fast, friendly, and flavorful service! My go to at any Indian plants is a chicken tikka masala and garlic naan. Ordered for pickup through Yelp/grubhub and my order came nicely packaged and made to order. I arrived a bit early but was offered a nice mint tea while I waited. I thought the ambience was great with the flags, the statues and tapestry.... but upon walking in we were greeted by a really unenthused guy who was our host/server for the afternoon. I smiled and said, "Two!" and he silently arm pointed to the dining room. When we ordered I asked for Dal, Chicken Tandoori - "Oh I'm sorry, we don't have that." What. They have a whole Tandoori section on their menu. Okay. I told my husband to order first while I figured it out. My husband, "I'll have the strawberry lassi," - "I'm sorry, we don't have that." WHAT. He ended up ordering the Mango Lassi (which was apparently really good) and a lamb curry that came with saag paneer, dal, naan and rice. My husband said everything was delicious. I ended up with a bowl of dal (which was so hot it burned my mouth) and the Chicken Tikka - the flavor was great but the meat was so tough I stopped eating halfway through, my jaw was sore and I couldn't chew anymore. The biggest mistake was using the ladies room before I started eating - that bathroom was giving off serious public transit vibes and it ruined my appetite (not that I could've chewed much more of that meat anyway). We ordered: Mixed grill - Tandoori style grilled meats, served on a sizzling hot plate Lamb Briyani - Briyani rice with lamb and spices, perfectly moist, not too dry as some places serve it. Lamb Vindaloo - spicy red curry with lamb and potatoes. Not dumbed down for Gringos, it is served with complimentary white rice pilaf, a nice touch, as other restaurants tend to charge extra for this. Regular Naan - Flaky and not drenched in oil, perfect for dipping into the curry. Taj Mahal beer - Indian lager to compliment the dishes. Our waiter was very attentive, kept checking in on us, refilled our waters without being asked. Provided take away boxes when he noticed we were stuffed. The ambiance is above a basic restaurant, with posters of Himalayan scenery, and Hindu & Buddhist scultpures, and Nepalese lanterns overhead. Each table had a vase of roses (artificial). I brought 5 family members here and we ordered mixed momo, samosa chaat, daal soup, garlic naan, chapati, salmon curry, chicken vindaloo, a sautéed cabbage dish (forgot the name but not the flavor!), and aloo gobi. We requested the dishes at medium spicy level which was perfect for our taste. The staff were very attentive and kind. What a great place. It hadn't even been on my radar before today but I had been craving my favorite Indian dish, goat curry. And theirs did not disappoint. The serving was just the right size because after I was full but not stuffed. And a lot of me wishes there had been some leftovers to take home because everything was excellent. It was spiced just right, had the right heat between medium and hot just like I asked for, and it paired really well with both the naan and basmati. For sure I'd order this one again. The service was pretty great too. They were right on the ball with refills, extra napkins, and even rice if I had wanted some. Went to the Himalayan cafe last week with fam. The food was delicious I can admit, but I do have to agree with the other reviews regarding customer service. My family ordered the tandoori chicken and I got it spicy and lord have mercy I couldn't breathe. Me and my family were coughing for about 5 mins before we could actually enjoy the food. I've been to the Pasadena location for lunch and had a really great experience, so I was excited to check out the San Dimas cafe. Unfortunately, it didn't go the same way. When we first walked in, there was an employee laid out asleep on the couch, which was surprising but I tried to overlook it. I've seen this place for a while and finally went. OH MY was it good. First off, the decor took me to another place. It looks like a small spot until you go in to find a whole other section. We parked on the street but there's a whole parking lot in the back. We ordered these delicious fried vegetable Pakora appetizers that came with two sauces. Incredible. The garlic naan was perfectly soft and crunchy. The hearty serving of vegetable Himalayan rice was so fresh, aromatic and flavorful. We chose mild-just enough kick but not overbearing. Chunky vegetables and so flavorful with this yogurt dressing. Tikka masala was good. Nice and saucy. I ordered their hot milk tea and a mango lassi. It was a small cup of tea but fresh and tasty. Everything looked and tasted super fresh and well portioned. The service was good. Went around 2 on a Thursday and empty, only one other table with guests. Highly recommend and will be back. Spent $59 + tip with some left overs for later. Only regret is not taking pictures for this post and not going sooner. read more

A great ambiance surrounds this place, from the rich smelling foods to the music. This is one of those spots you almost want to keep hidden for yourself but I have to share what amazing their restaurant is! They have the most flavorful chicken tikka masala and the best textured/tasting Mago Lassi. The service is always great, attentive to all your needs but they also let you eat in peace (which I love). No lie...been sleeping on this restaurant. I've seen it come up a few times in my search for food but just never thought to stop by...and boy was I a fool?! What a waste of $10! I also ordered stuffed naan (potato). The dough seemed undercooked and the stuffing and dough was so bland, just tasteless. Lastly I got the chicken tikka masala and it too was bland. Granted it tasted better than the other items but not by much. I tried this Tibetan restaurant this week. The restaurant was filled with about 9 people when we arrived. The service was good. My friend ordered for us. I thought the food was delicious and certainly adventurous. We ordered 3 dishes (including Basmati rice). I don't remember the names of these dishes but I have posted pictures. They were all delicious and the sauces were mild. I enjoyed the spicy, sweet and savory flavors. I would come again and recommend this eatery. Great food with many options for vegetarians. Mild spice level is actually very mild. The paneer tikka masala was delicious and a little on the sweeter side when ordered as a mild spice level.
