We've been going here for years, and it's perfectly serviceable Indian food. Is it the best in the universe? Nope. Will it blow your mind? Nope. Is it perfectly fine? Yep. And that's why we go there. Won't break the bank, it's totally reliable and good, and they do great takeout, too. We used to go there quite often, but we had about an 8-month lapse since our last visit (we've been out of town a lot). I was at lunch at this place at 11 for the buffet when it opened, waited till 1130 to start. They said they were open but they barely had any foot outside on the buffet. The food when it came, was awful. The tandoori chicken was okay. The meal was not worth $13.00. They finally brought the bread (naan) to my table, when I was ready to pay. If this wasn't enough, the icing to the cake is the attitude of the Bangladeshi waiter. There was a white couple sitting behind me; the waiter was very kind and courteous to. My family came here a while ago expecting good Indian food. Sad to say the food was disappointing. I have had authentic Indian food many times. I was surprised to see that they messed up the chicken tikka masala curry. It was so bland and maybe even watery. This is usually a go-to option at Indian restaurants and the fact that even this was not prepared properly is telling. I even had Biriyani and other curries and nothing was doing it for me. They all tasted bad. The ONLY good thing when I went was the chili chicken! That was superb! Haven't been in a while and not sure I will go anytime soon. Thought we'd try a new Indian restaurant tonight. The place was pleasant enough but the tablecloth was dirty. They gave us papadums that were a bit chewy but the chutneys were tasty. We got the Dahl soup and the paneer pakora for starters which we really liked. For entrees we chose the lamb pasanda and butter chicken both were burnt and had an overwhelming taste of cinnamon. The garlic nann was ok and we had to spit out the pickles. The staff were friendly enough and took the pickles off our bill when we told them we didn't like it but we didn't have the heart to tell them we didn't like our dinner. Got a coupon which offered 20% discount. Used it to take goat biryani and goat curry. Both were rich in flavor. Goat curry was creamy and with very balanced spice levels. Tasted yummy too. On the other hand, biryani was very ordinary and the rice itself was little hard as if it was not cooked well. Overall, I could see myself visiting this place frequently just for this goat curry. I visited the India Grille today with my wife to be. I had never been there except to pickup a menu when I was looking for potential places to eat out, being new to the Wilmington area. The prices seemed fair, and the smell of the food being prepared was appealing; this was months ago, but I did visit today One word to describe the food; Yummy!!! OMG!!! I really wasn't expecting much if I'm going to be honest, but the food and service was fantastic. The server walked me through the buffet line, explaining the various food and the spicing. I can tell you that each dish we had was flavorful. I ate and ate some more. Now, there were two dessert dishes. I wasn't impressed initially because there were no cakes, pies, or ice cream, if that's what you're into. The two desserts were 1) Some type of fried cheeseball dish and 2) Rice pudding. My wife to be asked if I could get some of the rice pudding for her to dip her fork into, just to get a taste. Like the average guy, I piled loads of this stuff into a bowl as sort of a joke--the joke was on me. She tasted it and didn't spit it out; she just dug in. I, of course, tasted it to see if my joke backfired. Next thing I know I was back at the dessert table getting myself a large helping. Wow!!!! We both ate our full of the place. The samosas were cold, in spite of the heat lamp directly above them. The goat curry was weak. The kheer was far too watery (though the taste was on point), and the bowls they put out for the kheer are tiny. Several of the accompaniments were mislabeled. Two minutes later my phone rings- it's the Indian Grill telling me they'll be happy to take my coupon. Sweet, I'm in. We ordered the vegetable sampler (all fried, but you could still taste the flavor), then tandoori chicken (ok), lamb curry (very good) and a dish made of homemade cheese with a delish yogurt/cocount sauce- Paneer something. The last few times we ate here, the food was good but not great and it just seemed a bit off. After a couple years not going we tried it last night and it was really good. The food was A+. We had the Chix Korma and Lamb Kabobs. The server seemed a bit flustered and even gave our food to the wrong table, but he was nice and clearly a bit in the weeds, but he really was trying hard to make everyone have a good time and I give him credit. We will certainly try this place a agin and we hope it keeps getting better.
