The restaurant tells muslim customers that the meat is halal. However that is not true at all. The restaurant owners are very cheap and won't spend extra money on getting halal meat and they definitely don't have a conscience when it comes to lying to their customers. read more

I was on a business trip and had a little time before heading to the airport and was craving Indian food. I yelped the area and searched out this place, When I came, it had the lunch buffet available, and though small, the choices were very diverse. It was great for lunch on the go. The various dishes were good, but I like my Indian food a little spicier. However, I know that in buffet situation, you have to appeal the masses, and so the spice factor has to be compromised. The naan was good, the curries were fine, and the tandoori chicken was also decent. All in all, I would say the food was pretty average as far as Indian food went, but the price (under $10) was a steal for the choices you had. If you need to scratch the itch, this place would do just fine. As far as the service went... again, because it was a buffet, it appeared somewhat less then average. The girl who helped me was not that friendly. No one really checked on me to see if my water needed refilled, and it took a little bit for someone to clearly my dirty dishes from my table. When it came time to pay, the guy at the cash register was on the telephone the whole time he was checking me out, and it did not seem to be a business-related call. Really great food for a decent price. Indian food is one of my guilty pleasures that I could eat several times a week and this place did not disappoint. I came off a yelp deal which only made it even better. The atmosphere is very quiet but in a comfortable way and the staff were friendly. They stopped by several times to check up and refill our drinks. Definitely get the garlic naan! It came out charred on the edges and so oily/flavorful. Naan bread was burnt more then acceptable, smaller portions(never thought i'd complain about this at an Indian restaurant), and it was pricey for very mediocre food. Also it was very slow service. I experienced India House for the second time and I wasn't disappointed! I absolutely love their veggie pakoras and their paneer dishes are amazing! They make their own paneer cheese, and it's de.li.cious. I've tasted both the masala and saag paneer and they were quite tasty. I even reheated my leftover saag paneer today and it tasted just as good as the day I bought it. It's hard to create dishes that are just as tasty the second time around. One thing that was kind of disappointing was their naan. I think I'd rather heat up the frozen naan you can buy at the store because it tastes exactly the same. Their naan is the only reason I docked them a star. Their service is great, we received our take out quickly and it was packaged to avoid as many spills and leaks as possible. This is by far my favorite taste of India when I'm getting the craving. Went with my mother and we were instantly greeted and were sat to our table. Went here for lunch. Heard it was good. Arrived at 2:29 pm. The sign was lit up as "open" and the manual flip sign also said "open". The male attendant came up to us when we arrived and said they were closed. So we struck out on our first try. Thought that if they really wanted some business, they might have let us try their food. I hit this place couple of times while traveling to SLC based on the yelp reviews. Good thing about this place is they will customize the dish per you need and make it spicy the indian way :) I had the best chicken tikka masala, and they made it spicy per my request. The best Indian food in the valley! I go here all the time for dinner. I love the coconut korma, and the tandoor meats. Most items on the menu have a vegetarian option and a variety of meat options including lamb and chicken. Last night I had the tandoor mixed grill and it was one of the best meals I have ever had. It was a huge plate of roasted meats lamb chicken shrimp and lamb sausage. It was packed with flavor! I also got the garlic naan. For dessert the peshwari naan is a must. This is the first Indian food I've tried in Utah and I have to say I'm not terribly blown away. I ordered take out and was told it would be about 15-20 minutes to get the food prepared. I planned accordingly and arrived about 15 minutes later, only to be the one greeting the waiter at the front who barely acknowledged I was there. 25 minutes later he came out handed me a bag said nothing and walked away. A bit off putting, but I'm there for the food not the service so I figured what ever. On top of this experience, I got home to some relatively subpar food. The garlic naan delivered, but couldn't say the same about the rest of the meal (which included a pretty flavorless meat samosa). Judging by the other reviews, perhaps I just had bad luck of the draw. But I can say next time I get a hankering for some good authentic cuisine, I'll be dining some where new. read more

You could go to a Indian buffet for 10$ elsewhere in Utah and load up on great options. The service is terrible, took them 10 mins to realize we were there, we just got up and left. This is the first Indian food restaurant i tried in salt lake when i moved here 9 years ago. At the time it was actually one of the best Indian food restaurants i had ever eaten at AND i discovered there what is maybe my most beloved dish (Shrimp Coconut Korma if you're wondering ;) Well it's not super close to my house and i usually don't make my way in that direction too often so it fell of the radar but THEN i suddenly found myself over that way and craving indian food so we stopped in. Clearly i will be finding myself that way more often because the food is still just as good as i remember it. It's affordably priced. The restaurant interior is nice and wait staff attentive. I like spicy food and Indian is no exception, but for the price of $8.99 I will forgo my "no seriously on the ten scale make it a spicy 10 really I can handle it" korma for a variety of medium to mild super fresh India House lunch buffet dishes...They had saag paneer, chicken korma, spiced chickpeas, tandori chicken, chicken tikka masala and curry chicken plus salad, several kinds of naan, rice, and for dessert soaked rice flour balls and cardamom rice pudding. I am happy to say that I officially love Indian food. I have only had Indian once before and it was a "meh" experience. The atmosphere and service was great but the food is what made this place shine. I ordered the Chicken Manchurian and the Mrs. got the mango chicken curry. I got mine on the spicy side with a side of naan bread. These dishes happened to be some of the most craveable foods I have had in a long time. Warning: this is very long because when it comes to indian food I CARE but there is detailed info about the dishes I tried if you wanna just scroll down to that. This review is also my husbands opinion. Hmmm. First of all I hate to be one of those people that doesn't have anything good to say, because those are the reviews that are so extreme I disregard them. The food wasn't so incredibly horrible, nor was the service. So if I had the choice I would fairly give this 1 1/2 stars. The way I rate a restaurant isn't just based on the taste of the food but one of my biggest requirements to make my Great List is if it tastes properly made from scratch- or as scratch as a restaurant gets. Coming from someone who has a super sensitive palette, who makes food from high quality scratch- I was not impressed at all. Bombay house is way better. Even Taste of Punjab was better. India House tasted like Indian fast food. It reminded me of an indian curry sauce block that my sister was once so excited about to make quick indian food. It is based with hydrogenated oil and perhaps some wax with the spices and you melt it in a pan and add the veggies and meat. I am kind of into health so I don't purposely eat that kind of food. It could have just been that the dishes just had way too much oil and not enough seasonings. With the solidification at reaching room temperature, maybe they added their own hydrogenated oil. Maybe all the dishes are not like that- I don't know. It reminded me of the Indian restaurant in Orem close to Smiths- the taste was a little better there- but still, Indian fast food. I know this is UTAH but there are way better Indian Restaurants than this here. Also there are good and bad cooks all over the world so just because an Indian made it doesn't mean they are a good cook in India. Or just because someone went to a restaurant in India doesn't mean they picked one of the better restaurants there. I tried 3 sauces on the basmati rice, as well as a mango lassi, the onion salad, and the Roti wheat bread. *None of the sauces had that deep complicated rich flavor of properly made indian food. -Bread is very telling of a good restaurant and it wasn't great in any way. It reminded me of Rhodes (some people love it I know, but as indian food? ...maybe those people still don't care) It was also too thick like the indian bread you buy frozen. -The mango lassi tasted like they might have used mango powder which still tastes good, but a lassi is way better with mango puree. -The Lamb saag... my least favorite (but a favorite at Bombay) was barely flavored and the meat was not tender and the cream sauce kind of had the feel of a mayonnaise based sauce. -The Channa Masala seemed the closest to made from scratch out of the three dishes but again didn't have that deep rich flavor and the garbanzo beans are better when they are cooked longer. This dish was a little more flavorful the next day. -The Vegetable coconut korma, which actually tasted the most flavorful, was the one that tasted like the hydrogenated oil curry block. It still didn't have enough flavor. -The onion salad surprisingly was my favorite part, I only wished it had more of the special spice mixture, and it needed more lemon. I didn't really like that I had to cut up the green chili myself. - also there didn't seem to be any cilantro in anything. not a surprise since there wasn't all of the other flavors (or enough flavor) present in the dishes anyway. Plus the medium spice level was hardly even mild :( I actually ended up adding things to towards the end of my meal to make it taste more because It was so unsatisfying. MAYBE my expectations were too high to begin with and I am being too critical. *The food gave me and my husband gas. His stomach hurt and I also got a headache. I have probably mentioned Bombay House enough but we don't get that reaction from there. Now that I feel and sound like a total food snob condescending to your adulterated taste buds- It is possible that MAYBE I got all the wrong dishes there. I am surprised at all the reviews that thought the food was so fantastic... sigh, oh well. Maybe it was just a bad night for India House. MAYBE since my review was so bad, you won't have high expectations and will actually enjoy the food for what it is. MAYBE, you really love India fast food. read more

Three of us had lunch here recently on a Saturday, which wasn't too busy. We all tasted each others' dishes, and all were excellent. We ordered Lamb Saag, Rogan Josh, and Lamb Boti Masala, as well as plain naan. My favorite was the Rogan Josh. I'd like to try the riata and the coconut korma dishes, as well as the lunch buffet on M-F. The restaurant is clean, comfortable and well decorated. I would go again in a heartbeat. read more

Check out the Chicken Coconut Korma it's very tasty. I love it super spicy so I when I ask them to make it Spicy I tell them INSANE spicy and make this contorted face. We are big fans of Indian food, get it regularly at home, and will seek it out while traveling since there are always vegetarian options. We asked for spicy seasoning, and it was pretty close to perfect, not so hot that we couldn't taste the flavors but far from bland. The dishes were not greasy, which is one of my biggest issues with this cuisine, and the portions were so big that we had a lot of leftovers -- enough for dinner the next night. We had a large party and were seated in the center of the room. The ventilation system was not the best, and at times the aircon was blasting Siberian air in our direction. Lucky I had a jacket and I was still cold. Service was good, prices were reasonable, a lot of vegetarian and other choices, worth a visit if you're in the Sandy area. read more
