GREAT GREAT food and an awesome staff who were so friendly and helpful considering I have never tried/ordered Indian food before.

Indian food is on the top of our dinning list which means we are often in Edison to get the "real deal." To our delight, Madison now has a first rate Indian restaurant just blocks from the town center. The owners and staff are attentive, very friendly and they truly give you the impression they are delighted to host you. The food we enjoyed, Tandoori mix grill, several Masala dishes and some veggie sides were all very well prepared, great flavors, without being over powering. Everything was done to a high standard and as authentic as you can get state side. We highly recommend Begum and when you leave you will be pleasantly surprised when you see the check. Plenty of food for a reasonable price! One other tip, stop next door at the liquor store and pick up an Indian wine (yes, India has some fantastic reds) Enjoy! We will definitely be back. read more

Food is aways on point, recommend the Butter Chicken/Makhani, anything Tandoori, Lamb, Veggie and their breads - roti, etc. Just great flavors. We have dined-in, had as take-away as well as their buffet options. Sunil is such a gracious host and makes everyone feel right at home. While the restaurant is a BYOB , there is a super close liquor store only two doors down the mall - you can pick up a Taj Mahal or a Kingfisher beer. read more

The food here is delicious! Spiced perfectly, and so flavorful. I have been here a couple times now, and the food is consistently wonderful. I have tried the buffet style food as well as some of the vegetarian appetizers and entrees from the menu, and I keep coming back for more! Ordered delivery just a little while ago, maybe it was close to closing and they rushed or something but they screwed my order up.I ordered veggie samosas which were really good and garlic naan which was also good. I also ordered a lentil dish, which they didn't include and cost me $10.95. instead of that I ended up with an extra side of Jasmin rice. while making my order I didn't meet they minimum amount for delivery so I ordered a spinach and potato meal to boost the cost.(Its only the 2nd time eating Indian for me, so tough to remember the names). So yeah the spinach thing was really good and went well with the Jasmin rice I ordered as a side. All in all the food was good but for me, being shorted a dinner sucked. Fortunately the manager Sunil has since contacted me regarding the matter and reimbursed my credit card for the cost of the missing dinner. Overall a good experience with this place in the long run, I will most likely in the future order from begum palace again. read more

Best Indian food in Morris County and that my fiance and I have yet to have! The owners of this great restaurant are literally the sweetest people. They are so caring and always come over to you to see how you are and if you need anything else. They go out of their way to make sure you are having a wonderful dining experience. One really rainy night my fiance was going to pick up our food from Begum and while he waited inside, the owner gave him a cup of tea to drink to keep warm. How nice! The food is incredible- their chicken tikka masala is so perfectly spiced and rich and their garlic naan bread is delish. Definitely try here! read more

As a person of Indian origin living in Summit NJ since 2003 I am often asked for recommendations and always send them to Edison or the City. We must have gone on one of their bad days since all their other reviews rave about their food and service. Must say that their appetizers are interesting. Haven't seen any other Indian restaurant with battered, stuffed fried Indian peppers on the menu. However, the meals were extraordinarily bland. I ordered chicken murgh which was chicken cubes which had been cooked in a tandoor and then cooked into a sauce. Alto, I had asked for medium spiciness, it had none at all. On top of that, the chicken had a bad taste like it might be old chicken that had been around too long. I took one bite and wouldn't eat anymore for fear of food poisoning. My partner ordered the lamb in cognac sauce. His, too, came without a bit of spice altho, he, too, asked for it to be medium spicy. The manager came around asking about his dish but not mine. My partner told him that his food was too bland. We got the usual excuse that they don't know how spicy someone likes their food. But we had eaten the spicy Indian pepper without complaint so he should have realized. He took my partner's dish and brought it back with more lamb and more spice. So, at least he had a meal. Mine was just left there not having been touched and nobody asked about why I hadn't eaten it. I didn't find the price as reasonable as others. $21 for a tiny dish of lamb in cognac sauce? This is a NYC price and not a Madison, NJ one. Altho the place is pretty enough, it doesn't seem to understand what it's patrons taste is. I know we won't be back there again. read more

Went on my lunch break which tends to start around 1:45. The restaurant lunch hours are posted on their window as ending at 2:30. After being there only 20 mins, the owner or whoever he was kept asking me if I was finished. This was at about 2:10. One of his workers began emptying the buffet at 2:15 and I was basically rushed out. The food is actually very good, but I find that bad business to want to kick everyone out of your restaurant early. On top of it, the owner was rude when I asked him about it. We recently used Begum Palace to cater a party. We chose it (even though it was far from our house) because the food is good. But the expericence was overshadowed by the management/ownership of the restuarant. They gave us a hard time about faxing us menus, were rude when I called about confirming the order and the pick up of our food. We were to pick it up at noon, but were running a little behind, so as a courtesy, I called to say we would be picking it up about a 1/2 hour later. I was berated for not coming sooner and on top of everything else the payment was demanded in cash at the last minute (even though the resaurant accepts credit cards). So while the food turned out well, the experience left a bad taste in my mouth. Needless to say we will not be using them again. read more

Best authentic Indian lunch buffett I have been to. Homestyle cooking, and many choices (the dill potatoes are to die for). I went there on a Friday night and the place was packed. The owner was very courteous and welcoming and that's the best thing i liked about the place besides the food. Very good Indian food, more of the northern variety, but they are recently under new ownership and the siblings who now own it are extremely conscientious and always walking through the main area to make sure people are enjoying their meal. They are very conscientious about gluten-free and other dietary considerations. Look forward to eating there again soon. read more

What a great Indian restaurant in the NJ burbs. We have been dining at here for many years. You cannot go wrong at any time. We just enjoyed the lunch buffet (on the NY official holiday). This is definitely one of the better Indian restaurants in the area. The owners Dee and Sonny are pleasant and helpful. Most of the dishes are standard Indian fare which can be found anywhere, but there are some such as the tandoori lamb chops and pistachio chicken which are unique. They no longer have the Wednesday and Sunday buffets. read more

The first time I had Indian food was at Begum Palace - I have never had Indian even remotely close to as good as theirs since. It's always incredible. The buffet allows you to try items you may not order otherwise. The interior is warm, the booths are comfortable, and all of the owners and employees are kind and make you feel at home. I've come here many, many times with close friends and it remains a place where we reunite and catch up. I cannot recommend Begum Palace any more - if you haven't been, go ASAP! Came here for dinner the other night with my family. The regular prices are mediocre, but the value of the buffet is great - all you can eat for $18! And the selection was really good. There was a tomato soup and a lentil soup, a bunch of veggies, lamb stew, spinach with chickpeas, sesame chicken, tandoori chicken, soup with cheese, naan bread, and two desserts (rice pudding and gulab jamun). I had the lunch buffet here recently, and it was quite good. I was particularly impressed by the variety of dal options, which are something that are often skimped on in other buffets. If they were trying to cater to my particular tastes, I would have liked to see some really interesting vegetable options, like bhey muttar.
