Oh man, this place is so good. The Tikka masala, butter chicken, garlic naan, and my personal favorite the kadai chicken are all fantastic. On a recommendation from my boss, I decided to give Indigo a try. As luck would have it, I was cat sitting for my sister; so, I was conveniently close by. But, you don't need to know any of this; so, on with my review. Upon entering, I was pleasantly greeted, not only by two employees but, notably, by a spicy aroma that fueled my anticipation, as well as my hunger. For once, I had called in my order; (please note: most days Indigo is take out only) so, wait time was not a factor. I was in and out, with my lamb vindaloo and garlic taan, in minutes. There was one secondary observation that I made. There were several of those "best of" awards on the wall. You know, the kind of things that never fail to compell me to say"prove it". Well, "prove it" they did. Now, I will admit that the way the cashier asked "do you like spicy?" did have me thinking that a gallon of milk may be in order; but, no. Sure, I would call the, very accurately described " tangy tomato red chili sauce" as hot; but perfectly so. Not one flavor was understated, leaving a delicious after taste, that left me longing for more. Fortunately, I had soft, airy and chewy, garlic naan to sop up the sauce, once the, once the plentiful, tender, lamb had been consumed. Add to this the white rice that accompanys the meal, and I found myself fully satisfied (with leftover rice to spare). At just over twenty five bucks for the whole meal, I felt the price was fair for the portion and just as imprtantly, the overall quality, of the meal I paid for. read more

I do wish they did dine in, but I understand the restaurant business is not easy, and if a take out only model keeps them above water, I'll gladly give them my money. Excellent Food! I'm a first-timer at Indigo Indian Restaurant. It easily met all of my expectations. I ordered my go-to's, Cheese Naan and Chicken Tikka Masala; both were very good. Thank goodness he asked if I wanted mild; I can't imagine eating anything spicier than mild. (Says the Lilly-white, New Englander.) I had a new-to-me dish, per their recommendation, Methi Malai Mutter. Fabulous!!! (And it has grated paneer in it. Great touch!) This dish is definitely worth trying. Indigo Indian Restaurant is now on my favorites list. I will be stopping there for take out any time I am in the area. Thanks for an excellent meal and I look forward to many more! read more

So we were looking for Indian food..our spot that delivers. Didn't have gluten and dairy free options.. So I found this place on Yelp. My sister was impressed on the easy to use menu. With easy to read guild on spice, dairy free and gluten free.. So we ended up ordering medium spice chicken curry. Which had more kicked than other places medium spice. But it wasn't bad.. Just a good heat to clear the sinuses lol.everything was package neat and kept warm. Chase was very unique and authentic a lot of Indian restaurants I've learned use a thick cream well this place uses coconut milk. You can taste the difference. I highly recommend this place. This was a lovely place to have dinner with a friend after a long Greyhound bus ride from NYC. The place is casual dining with a whimsical feeling with bright orange and green walls. On the wall, there were cool photos and pictures portraying peacock feathers, as well as quotes. There were also pretty blue lights. The wooden tables were set with reddish orange cloth napkins and wine glasses. I ordered the rose lassi, which was just okay. It was not thick enough for my liking and the rose flavor wasn't that strong. I had a hard time choosing between Sheekh Kebab (minced lamb) and Fish Tikka Kebab (salmon). I finally decided on the lamb, but wish I had gotten the fish. The lamb had seasonings of mint, pepper, spices and was cooked in Tandoor, served on a bed of mixed vegetables on top a sizzling cast iron skillet. I did not like the type of lamb that was used - I tend to only like lamb chops and actual pieces of lamb. I did not realize that MINCED lamb was ground lamb cut in circular shape. I thnk the cubes of salmon would have been more appetizing for me. However, the lamb did have a lot of great flavors and the vegetables underneath were delicious. There was a large portion of peppers, chickpeas, cauliflower, peas, lettuce and a little bit of green beans and tomatoes. The vegetables tasted fresh and wonderful with the delightfully tangy sauce it came with. The naan that my friend ordered was very yummy - Warm, slightly crispy, lightly buttered. Service was solid. We stayed past closing time and they graciously let us continue eating and talking. I would consider coming back if in the area, but would need to be much more discerning and make sure I understand the description before I order. read more

It's strange that I missed reviewing this restaurant, hmm! I thought I had written one. Anyhow...I've been dining here for longer than I can remember. The food is outstanding, consistently good and it's almost too crowded to even get a seat most evenings.. Dishes I've tried and recommend are samosa chaat, chilli paneer, tandoori chicken sizzling platter, shahi paneer gravy, and oh! the chilli or garlic naan (so good)... Weekday lunch boxes are excellent, priced at $7 you get rice, choice of protein, side of vegetables and bread. I haven't had the buffet though which is an option if you want to dine in. One down side is that they shutdown early, last order for dining is at 8:45..they don't seat you after 9pm although they close at 9:30. read more

Tried Indian food for the first time recently and tried it at indigo. Biggest complaint I have is how delicious the food was, I have wanted Indian every week since going! I have not found another place that even compares to Indigo so I have stopped experimenting around and solely get my food from here! You can tell how much time, effort and care goes into every meal. I have only gotten take out, but every time am welcomed by a very friendly cashier who makes the experience great. My all time favorite is the chicken tiki masala with a side of garlic naan! This is one of my monthly if not biweekly food staples and top three of my all time favorite places. Would highly recommend to anyone in the area who likes Indian food or who is looking to try! read more

I am not from the area, I was in town for ten days for a business trip... that being said, I really wish I had found this spot 8 days before I did. Wow. We stumbled upon this gem on day 8. We loved it so much, we came back for day 9! (Had we found it earlier, we would have dined here at least 2-3 more times.) We were a group of 6 and we unanimously agreed that this restaurant served the best meals of our 10-day trip. If you're considering trying Indigo Indian Bistro or not... you really should. The service was great and the food was even better. We ordered buttered chicken, chicken tikka masala, chicken curry, kadai chicken, kadai lamb, chicken biryani, lamb biryani, aloo gobi, tandoori chicken, dosa, samosa chaat, gobi manchurian and several baskets of buttered naan and garlic naan. Everything was great. The gobi manchurian was surprisingly delicious, though it didn't really fit with the theme of the meal. (It was fried cauliflower smothered in a tangy bbq flavored sauce.) Other stars of the meal were the chicken tikka masala, both kadai dishes as well as the biryani dishes. My only regret is that I didn't get to experience their lunch buffet option- which looks great. Their buffet is good. I went for a sunday lunch buffet. Appam was my favorite. Appam is a kerala speciality bread. They make it fresh while you are eating. You can ask for more if you want, that was cool. Egg nilgiri and vegetable stew goes well with appam. Methu vada and idili was good as well. There was nice sambar to go along with it. Chicken tikka masala went nicely with the naan they provided. Kerala fish curry was not up to the mark. Carrot halva dessert was not that great. Outside of their buffet, calamari kochi (appetizer) is my favorite here. It is really spicy. Their biryani comes covered with a naan. Waiter will cut open the naan from the vessel in front of you. You can eat that naan. I liked the shrimp biryani more than chicken biryani. Mango lassi was nice. read more

This is an update to my previous review. I am never disappointed when I go to Indigo. The taste of the food is very authentic and traditional. Sheen Mathew, the owner of Indigo, brings in a variety of creative dishes while sticking to the authentic flavors. I've been a fan of this place since day 1 of opening. The weekend buffets are great, especially the Sunday's when they have "appam" on the menu. Appam is a very traditional dish from the southern state of Kerala in India. They make it fresh in front of you and bring it to the table. This is an absolute must try item and I highly recommend it. The variety and taste of the food is very good mix of multiple regions in India. Outside of the buffet, the menu has a good spread of appetizers, entrees, breads and desserts. The ambience is nice and cozy and very neat and you will not be disappointed with the prices too. The food is definitely worth the money you pay for. I highly recommend Indigo and definitely one of my favorite Indian restaurants in the neighborhood. read more

We frequent this place a lot. Anytime we crave a good earthen pot of Biriyani...specially goat Biriyani...we drive to this restaurant. Excellent Biriyani. Ceylon shrimp amazing. Tandoori chicken...flavourful, tender and juicy...not the extremely dry tandooris that we get at a lot many places these days that have lost all the juices due to reheating...just great...and consistent. One thing though...don't mess with their spice level...just say...make it the way you make it...and you will get the best results... Remember Indian food preparations generally cannot be customised...many a Indian restaurants end up serving mediocre food just because they try to customise their recipes. If you change the recipe, you might as well rename the dish! Rogan josh, chettinad and madras preparations with chicken and goat/lamb also are great. Specially accompanied by their Kerala/ring parathas. On Sunday's they have coconut steamed pancakes which is to be dipped in spicy curry before devouring...that is epic...but only available on Sunday buffets. read more

This is Indian food at its best! We've visited twice now for take away foods and loved it all. We've sampled some chicken dishes and the sheek kabob, breads and side sauces. Everything is prepared and packaged with care, full of varied and full flavors. And believe the hotness guide. If you like medium heat, choose items with the one pepper. From order taking to final pick up everyone is kind and professional. The menu is large and clearly separated for vegan/vegetarian/meats as well as gluten and/or dairy free. A really delicious selection of Indian food. I got the aloo gobi. Spicy, cooked really well. My friend got paneer, and again very delicious. He, in particular, can be picky too, as an Indian and a bit older, he often doesn't like eating Indian out but he was impressed with this place. Upon first glance, the prices look a tad high, but really it's not for the amount of food they give. I took some of my food home and brought home gulab jamun as well that my wife thoroughly enjoyed. Service was great, even though towards the end they were getting crowded and needed the table. We could tell they wanted the table, but they were still courteous about "telling us" it's time to leave. read more

I love Indian Food a lot but I'm often picky about where I'll go because every place has their own flare. After I tried IIB, I'll never go back. Head and shoulders about any other Indian Bistro I've ever eaten at. Whenever I invite family down, this is always on the list of "where should we eat?" The people there are extremely helpful and nice. It typically costs around $40 to eat there for 2 people, and I always tip well because they do a great job. Worth every penny. I think it would be awesome if they bought the vacant location next door to them (formally Ken's Pizza) and expanded their restaurant. People would flock. The food is always perfect. Nice Indian restaurant tucked away next to shoprite. We ordered the samosa chat and gobi manchurian and masala dosa for appetizer and malai kofta, dal tadka, paneer makhani for main course. Masala dosa came out cold.. felt like it was sitting there for a bit.. However, everything we ordered was tasty and would definitely recommend. We totally loved the food. I removed the 2 stars for the extremely slow service.. the restaurant was next to empty and we had to wait a long time for food even after we placed order within few minutes of being seated..they also charged us for chopped onions.. come on! its an Indian restaurant.. chopped onion is a default item!! read more

By far the worst Dal Makhani i have ever had. The color was wrong, the texture was soupy and not creamy, and the flavor was terrible. If this is the best they can do, id seriously consider taking this item off the menu. Yesterday was an absolutely amazing (and somewhat chaotic) experience but not a lot of food (to feed me). I ate nothing else yesterday or today so I am famished. The server, Sheen's (owner's) wife, remembered I didn't have the cold, frothy, strong, South Indian Madras milk coffee last time I was here (two months ago) for dinner. That's a pretty good memory! This is good. Not too sweet. Tastes like cappuccino. For my appetizer, I am going to have the conical, vegetable samosas (two crispy pastries stuffed with spiced potato and green peas). These are very tasty and come with a side of sweet brown (tamarind) sauce and a green (mint chutney) sauce. This place is a local favorite and is definitely well run. The boss even served me today! There is also a buffet (11:30-2:30) everyday (closed Mondays, Tues-Fri $10; Sat-Sun $14) which I have been known to frequent. The only drawback here is the window tables are cold during the winter. Crowd is picking up here (5 tables now) and they just opened. Half these people have no idea what's on the menu...I am going to mix it up from last time to show some new dishes. For my soup, I having the Nariyal Kaju soup (coconut, cashews and tomato). It had "one pepper" for the spice level so I am asking for the "two pepper" version! Note the menu has each item coded as gluten-free, dairy-free and/or vegan. This place is very accommodating to those with special dietary needs. Also interesting is the server wipes off dinner plates with a clean towel before the entrees are served. For my drink, I am having an Indian beer called a Taj Mahal. It's a premium lager with a bready, doughy flavor. It's also a 22-ounce monster slow brewed from the "finest malt and hops." The soup is piping hot and has some kick to it! For my entree, I am having the phaal with goat (cooked in green and red chili sauce with onion, tomato and spices). The plate is served warm too. The carrot garnish on the rice is odd. This dish is awesome! Half the heat is mainly packed in the single half green pepper! The red sauce is very good and not too hot for the faint-hearted out there. For dessert, I am having the ras malai (cheese patties in sweet milk reduction with pistachio). This is a first for me. Let's see what comes out. They also have "rose" ice cream here. Never had that. Next time I will try it. Not bad! The two little cheese patties make the dish, but you may or may not like the syrup's slight aftertaste. read more

The Sunday luncheon buffet was amazing both in quality and breadth. We sampled many favorites plus a number of new dishes. The standouts included Dal Amritasari, Vegetable Madras, and the Sholay kebab. The butter chicken and gulab jamun were among the best I have experienced. This is one of my favorite Indian buffet stops when I am in CT. I have known the owner for years since his days in Vernon, CT and his penchant for quality is unparallelled in my experience. I find the food to be unusually good, the chutneys are exceptional especially the onion chutney. Perhaps it's just me but the naan at Indigo is one of the very best; I believe it is because it is thinner than most and develops a nice char flavor in the tandoor. There are many dishes served at Indigo Bistro that don't seem to be on other menu's elsewhere which makes this stop always a pleasant surprise. read more

I eat at Indigo regularly over the past 6 or 7 years. I just realized I have never chimed in on how good this place is. The lunch and dinner buffets are amazing. Great variety and delicious food. Indigo makes the best na'an outside of grandma's kitchen. The vibe is basic storefront buffet, Indigo is located in a shopping plaza on Spencer St in Manchester. The interior and bathrooms are clean, parking is always abundant, free and close. The food runs the range from Tandoori chicken and Tikka Masala to all kinds of veggie entrees and rices and sides. Vegan options, check. Gluten free options, check. Goat? Sometimes. Lamb? Sometimes. Delicious every time. With your lunch buffet you get unlimited plates of delicious fresh Indian food and a basket of fresh hot buttery na'an for about $10. When I go for lunch, I never need dinner. The place fills up quick at lunch. The service is perfect buffet service. Waters kept full and plates cleared quickly. The manager is super friendly and always working hard behind the food line to keep things fresh. Writing about it makes me hungry. See you later I'm headed to Indigo for lunch. read more

It's been awhile since I've been back to this place, and sadly, they've done away with my favorite--the dinner buffet. But they still offer a lunch buffet for $9.99 on weekdays and $12.99 on weekends. I stopped in this plaza for takeout and groceries. Deciding it'd be most efficient to place my order before I picked up the couple things next door at ShopRite, I went in and ordered aloo gobi (comes with basmati rice) for $12.49 and chappati for $2.99. I was amazed when they told me it would be 10-12 minutes. I ended up coming back after about 25 minutes, and indeed my food was ready. Based on the receipt that they had already printed, it looked like they had actually gotten my takeout ready in 10 minutes. Very impressive. This was my first time ordering off the menu and not just eating at the buffet, but their food doesn't disappoint. I've been a vegetarian for awhile and recently have started transitioning into vegan, so I really appreciate that they mark entrees containing dairy. For those with a gluten intolerance, they also mark gluten-free options. I'm a huge fan of spicy food and asked them to make the aloo gobi between medium and spicy. I felt like that level of spiciness was actually between mild and medium, so next time I'll just ask for them to make it spicy. I also appreciated that the chappati was put in a paper bag with an aluminum lining to preserve the warmth. Good portion sizes (see picture with my computer mouse in it for size reference). Random Sidenote: The one huge pet peeve I have with this restaurant is their website probably belongs on this list: http://www.topdesignmag.com/20-examples-of-bad-web-design/. All of the info that you need is there, but having to look through the site is a little like shopping at Walmart.
