Indochine, the Phnom Penh knock-off? Not really, but they make up for it in atmosphere and pretty servers.This place gets the over-flow of the main st. hipsters, younger asian crowd and maybe a few LG's. The servers made quite a few mistakes but they were really nice and pleasant-OK, ladies, shut your eyes and ears for a second while I make a guy comment because it's gonna be BOO...wait for it...and I hope you like honey because the second half of that word is BEES! I'd give them a 3.5 if I could. They do some things better than others. Overall it was a pleasant experience. Butter beef on point. 5 stars. I recommend saving the sauce for the other dishes. Chicken wings are not the same as phom phen and was disappointed in them. They were ok 3 stars. I wouldn't pay 10 bucks for them again. Beef stew and lemon grass chicken was good. Portions a little small 4 stars. Indochine beer is good 4 stars. Service was great. Music was loud. I'd go there for the drink specials but I would stick to phom phen for the food. read more

My place to go to when I'm craving Phnom Penh and want to avoid there crazy line ups. It's not exactly the same but they do have delicious drinks! Probably one of the best Cesar's and lychee mojito! My favourites are the Black pepper poutine, the butter beef, and the garlic wings! ( wings are half off on Wednesdays). It wasn't as crispy as Phnom Penh's, not even as crispy as I wanted them to be. They were tender and juicy instead. The lime pepper dipping sauce felt like diluted and was not strong enough. Beef Luc Lac (Vietnamese and French style stir fried steak cubes in a rich garlic butter soy sauce. Served with tomato fried rice or French baguette) $10.5 3.5/5 - It was saltier than last time. The tomato rice was on the drier side. The best part of the dish was the salad on the side. I was hoping for more of that. Not sure if it was because it was heavily MSG-ed. Shredded Chicken Vermicelli in Soup (Shredded chicken with clear vermicelli "fun see" noodles in chicken broth with crispy shallots and scallions) $6.75 3/5 - similar to what we had last time with more MSG. I am a little disappointed for my revisit 6 months later. There was quite a bit of MSG in our food =(. We also had free refills for our pop last time. Maybe just because we had a different girl? The food was great especially the chicken wings much better than PP ,green papaya salad very refreshing .shaken beef its nice but a bit too sweet for my taste. The biggest negative about this restaurant is the load club music /tv screens everywhere. We did end up asking for them to turn the music down. Who's running this place a 16 yr old ? I came in for lunch one day as I was working in the area and I've heard the wings here were good. It was a Wednesday, so the added bonus is that wings are half priced. I walked in and the restaurant was quite dimly lit. One of the waitresses behind the bar came to greet me and sat me at a table. It wasn't too busy during the time I was there. There was maybe three other tables of people. After some contemplation, I ordered the garlic butter wings and the laksa. It took a while for the food to arrive but I wasn't in too much of a hurry so I just waited. The wings came out first. Good sized wings with a lemon pepper dipping sauce. They were just okay...definitely not better or as good as Phnom Phen. They actually reminded me of the wings they serve at this Vietnamese restaurant called Hai Phong (on Kingsway and another location in Chinatown). The laksa came out as I was halfway through the wings. It was nice and hot (almost too hot to eat right away) but it was also OILY....like really oily. I was afraid to eat it because of the thick layer of oil, but it was actually quite tasty when I did get around to trying it. There was rap music playing in the background which was a bit loud. Overall, not a bad experience but nothing special either. I might pop by again for half priced wings as I cannot say no to that. read more

Associated to Chinatown's Phnom Penh, this is a fusion version of Vancouver's best Chicken Wing place. It's younger and much more geared for drinking than eating. Came here with friends for wings Wednesday. This place did not disappoint! The only negative is they only have two flavours available on wings Deal day and that's their garlic butter and seracha. Both are spicy but not bad and you can ask for the garlic butter wings mild. They are BOTH delish though. Lots of meat and crunchy outside. Meat just falls off the bone. Best wings I've had in a while. To pair with wings Wednesday they have import bottles of beer for $4.99. Yum yum! The one negative was the server we had at first was a little... Lacking. We had to ask for napkins... Umm we eating wings. Also she served us spicy tofu dish and we had to ask for chopsticks... Come on. I just moved into the area and was feeling hungry in the evening (approx 8 pm). I was craving thai or vietnamese, but given my laziness and refusal to walk more than a couple blocks I gave this place a try. Online I saw they have poutine and baguettes to add as sides, which was odd but it is a fusion restaurant. I ordered the laksa for takeout, which was ready in about 15 mins. Being an avid laksa lover, I may have high standards. It was tasty, but the constancy threw me off and I was even tempted to add hot water to it to thin it out. (perhaps too much coconut milk?). This meal was about 9.50$. I wish there were more vegetables in the dish, but it was consumed with thick noodles. I will probably go back here because I noticed they have cheap drink specials, but I am also willing to try other food on the menu. read more

The service is not very good, the waitress helped other tables before us, even though they came in after and they got there drinks before she even came over. Following this we had to call her over at which point she grabbed menus, got to the table and proceeded to throw the menus on the table and walk away without even saying the specials. The food is okay, it usually comes out slow and the table isn't usually served together. Definitely don't go on your lunch break unless you wanna have it come to the table and then have to get it packed up to go. I've been to this restaurant twice now, each time thinking it might be better than the last but that's never been the case. First of all, the dishes are tapas style like Guu and Hapa Izakaya. Though not a big menu, I was glad to see a lot of personal favorites that I was excited to try. Unfortunately that's as far as it went. The portions were small, not worth the ~$10/dish price. And many of the dishes were ill prepared. Perhaps they're still working out a few kinks with the kitchen staff? Sadly disappointed. Second, the ambiance. The space is quite small. I found many of the adjoining tables were too close together. The first time I came with a few friends it was fairly empty so I didn't notice the "coziness". But that became apparent on my second visit when I could barely get to the bathroom because a group was occupying the bar. Perhaps friends of the owners and staff because it quickly became louder and louder. Still was not that busy yet it felt confined. Also, I've never seen an establishment where the staff, possibly even the managers, were having drinks with the patrons. Sure it's a bar/lounge, but nearly every one was having shots. Finally, service. Our servers seemed well trained in terms of the menu, however like I said, many had been drinking so it got more and more difficult to get our servers attention. Other than that, I'd say the 20 something year old servers did their job. Overall, I gave this place 1 star. Because yelp unfortunately doesn't allow negative stars, yikes! Won't be returning. First timer today and it was great! Went here for a surprise birthday dinner for a friend. Place is nice and the food is good! Would recommend the garlic chicken wings and their butter beef!! Stopped by for Lunch right after my flight as my friends suggested this restaurant. Ordered the Laksa dish and it was excellent! 3 stars because it was so loud in there I couldn't even hear my phone ring nor conversate with my friends. When mentioned to the only server in the restaurant she seemed concerned but did nothing. 5 minutes later we asked again and was told sorry she didn't know how to turn it down. DO NOT COME HERE!! BMW GOT VANDALIZED BY DRUNK RESTAURANT PATRONS!! I hope the restaurant owner will read this. I came for a bday party on August 25, 2017 around 8:30-11:30pm. There was a group restaurant patrons drinking outside of it's premises. It was a group of Asian guys in their early - mid 20s. They were very clearly drunk in front of the restaurant, additionally they were even taking pictures of our party! These drunks were walking in and out of the restaurant with a pitcher of beer from the restaurant! And they were drinking in front of their properties. It was shocking how their waitresses did nothing. Shortly after, I found my car VANDALIZED with the exact same drink (beer) poured all over my car too. There were no one on the streets that night except for that drunk party. On top of that, when I found my car, there were foot prints all over my car. They went on my sunroof and stomped on it, causing damages and even jumped on my hood which bent. I am completely furious, and I filed a police report against your restaurant. Their waitresses are all rather young and inexperienced. You need to find better staff, clearly they did not care or even understand why they shouldn't be drinking off premises with alcohol from your restaurant. The food is very similar to its sibling restaurant Phnom Penh and their chicken wings are to die for. I have tried several dishes on their menu and have been really pleased with all of their menu items. It is a small restaurant with lots of seating and a very cool bar area and tv's. I have been to Indochine over twenty times and the food has always been consistent. However, the service is usually quite terrible. The girls are friendly enough but there is usually only one server during the day time and it can get quite busy during the lunch rush. If you don't mind waiting a long time for your food or service then Indochine is a good value for the yummy food. read more

I came here with a fairly large group for a girlfriends birthday on Friday. Atmosphere was a little bit cramped. They played really good music. My boyfriend and I shared the lemon grass chicken and butter garlic wings. Both were exceptionally good. Pricing was fair and the portions were actually pretty decent. Our server was very nice as well. The restaurant was super busy and service took a little longer than usual but it didn't look like there wasn't a lot of staff but she managed to help all of us as best as she could. read more

I'm reviewing the newest Indochine on Fraser St. since it doesn't have a listing here yet - it's the same restaurant. My son and I had tried to go here to eat 4 times for dinner before being successful tonight. Two times it was closed for a private function, one time it was just closed, and the last time it was full. That seemed promising. When we arrived, there were no waitresses to be seen. One finally came out and said we could sit anywhere. We chose our seats and it took a while to get menus and I noticed that all 4 place settings on the table were filthy. I have never been to an establishment and seen cutlery like that before, I was already regretting our decision to eat there. We ordered our food, I got the coconut red curry and my son got the black pepper poutine. Wow. Completely underwhelming. I got a bowl of red looking soup with several chunks of fatty beef in it but the bowl looked like it was tossed into a fire - completely unappetizing. The rice was of really low quality as well, something I liken to an Uncle Ben's instant rice texture. I asked the waitress if the dish was supposed to look like that and she said that's what it looked like when they heated it up. The poutine dish was better at least, so my son and I shared that. I was really hoping that this place would be awesome but it was sadly the biggest disappointment ever. read more

I wasn't impressed with the service here. My friends and I had all ordered our food. There was 6 of us and 4 of us got our food. We started eating but my other 2 friends' food never came even after we finished eating. So we flagged down the waitress and asked her about it and she said she would check on it. She comes back and tells us that the oven was broken and that my friends had two options. One was to wait until the oven gets fixed or to order something else that doesn't require an oven. Now, if the oven was broken, they should've told us that in the beginning so they can get my friends to order something else instead of waiting for food that was never going to come. Instead they just ignored it until we asked. My friends were starving. We came to eat together. They didn't do anything special to make up for it either. Also, they did not check up on us that night; did not ask how our food was or if we needed anything else, did not refill our glasses of water when they were empty, and they don't clear your dishes to the very end either. The only time the waitress was present was to take our order at the very beginning and when it was time for us to pay the bill at the very end. read more

SERVICE: The worst customer service I have ever had. My friend went to the washroom and came back to find butter beef carpaccio sauce all over his chair and jacket. We waited a long time for our server but she was no where to be seen. We asked another server for napkins and explained the situation to her. She did nothing but give us a few napkins. She did not find our server, did not apologize, did not clean up the mess and did not give a damn. Finally our server appeared and gave us more napkins to wipe the huge mess. My friend who is generally a very calm person was very upset. He is not the type to cause a scene but he was still very angry with the service. We asked if they can take care of the dry cleaning and the server said "OK". My friend was then instructed to take a photo of the dry cleaning receipt and email it to them. They will "somehow" find a way to pay my friend back. All this interaction and conversation, we felt the servers were not sincere or sorry at all. These girls need major customer service training. I warn you - do not come here if you want service. As well we ordered chicken wings and spring roll which never came. We had to cancel it since we were finished everything already. FOOD: Food was OK, nothing special. Don't really have an appetite after all that. Totally ruined the mood for food. AMBIANCE: SUPER dark inside. This is not Dark Dining! Everything is in black - literally everything. The space was very small which can maybe accompany 10 tables. It had 6 large flat screen TVs glaring at you as you have dinner. The small space was super loud which was hard to have a normal conversation. It took me 2 minutes for me to feel the light switch in the women's washroom because everything was still black. When I heard of the sister location of Phnom Penh, I had to try it. The portions seem smaller and the prices higher than the original, but the service and atmosphere is better. I went Indochine twice once for lunch and once for an early dinner. Both times there weren't many other guests. However, the service was good both times and I found the food to be really good. We tried the mango/avocado salad, the green papaya salad and the Singaporian teryiaki and I would have all three dishes again. I'll be back to sample more dishes, most likely for lunch. read more

We had a group of eight for a Friday lunch. We suggested to the server that we could sit at 2 tables of four so the server would not have to move any tables. The server then told us for groups of eight there is an automatic 18% gratuity. Once we sat down we were told the drink special was pitchers of beer for $7.99. So we ordered some pitchers for the table. Then the server was off to get our drinks. During this time we had still not received any menu for food. When she brought over the drinks we still had no menus. So a member from our group went and grabbed paper menus from the counter. There was one staff member to serve the entire place, including bar tend. The place was not full, about half full. We understood she was busy. The food arrived but not everyone was served at once, which is fine. But one in our group did not get their food for about 15 minutes after the first person was served lunch. The food was very tasty and good value for the money. The whole lunch experience took far too long. We expect to be in and out within 1 hour. We had to ask for the bill several times, and once we received the bill we asked why the beer was $10 not $8 as we were told, as this point the server also noticed she forgot to charge the 18%!!! So we was off to the computer again. By this time everyone in our group has been there for 1 hour and 45 minutes. The server did not correct quoted price for the beer. Then a new server appeared and gave us our bill, so we had to re explain why the beer quote was wrong? This server tried to apologize for our experience by suggesting she could give us gift certificate for another time. I personally declined the certificate as this was far too long for lunch and was now late for an appointment and had to leave cash and run out the door. One of our group took the gift cert. I am only giving 2 our of 5 because of the slow service, the food was far above average for taste and quality, the portion was a bit on the small size. I had the Coconut Red Curry. I've been here on two different weekends now and i've decided to never ever go back (was there tonight and had to write this right away). Some of the food was quite good, and tasted fairly authentic, but most of it was disappointing. It looks like a pretty cool place from the outside, but the inside is whatever. Fine if you just want a joint to drink and watch the game though. The service and the type of people that were there both times we came are a total catastrophe. The group of a dozen or so were obviously friends with the owners, and they're a messy, rowdy, inconsiderate crew. I can't believe how much shouting, near fighting, and obvious drunk driving that was happening (they all parked right outside) and the staff were part of it! Ended up not even finishing our food and just leaving because the noise, inside and out, was just insane. This place wasn't fun, cool, hip or tasty, and i'm getting a headache writing this review. We also starting feeling a little unsafe after watching and hearing some of the conversations (draw your own conclusions...).
