Best.Food. Ever. Service is the only thing that was disappointing. Not the people who were bringing out the food or waiting on tables but the women who were seating us. They were very mechanical but lacked genuinity I thought. Cold. That's Sad because everything else was so perfect. Lychee mist and BELLE DE JOUR comes highly recommended. The spicy beef salad was extremely refreshing. It was spicy while being absolutely flavorful. The beef was the right texture with all the greens. Lemon addition was perfect. The ravioli was basically like a steamed spring roll. The filling was a tad less on seasoning and flavor but the minute you hit the dip that dish is magical. I like when flavor adds up and takes into account all the different parts of a dish. The shaking beef was tender and juicy and great. There not too many ingredients and that worked best for this dish. The ginger and scallion were the right additions. Ok so we don't like chicken esp in restaurants but we thought since this was a fancy establishment we would give it a try. The Saigon chicken was so good. The lemongrass hits all the right notes. That chicken is damn good and comes highly recommended. We had the lemon tart that is extremely tart (if you know what I mean) and it is perfect. The crust is thin and flaky and just right. More like 3.5 stars in my opinion but I'll round up here. I had Indochine on my RW wish list for 2018 but wasn't able to get there, so I made sure to make reservations for the first week of RW 2019. Reservations on OpenTable were pretty booked up far in advance, so I grabbed a fairly early time slot for dinner. I was happy and surprised to see that the RW menu hadn't changed much over the years. All the staple dishes are still on the menu. When we arrived at 6pm was almost empty aside from a few tables and it was DEAD quiet. I was really hoping the environment would liven up a bit, and if definitely did by the end of our meal. Regardless, the ambiance was super cool and just as gorgeous and pristine as it looks in pictures. I see people complaining about the waitresses in a lot of reviews, but ours was really sweet so I can't relate. Yes, all of the waitresses, hostesses, and bartenders are young hot things lol but we didn't come here to compete with them for a modeling contest. We came for the food, y'all. And the waitresses were nice! Just because they might be dressed a bit fancier than you doesn't automatically mean they're going to be rude. Now I feel like their defense lawyer, but okay... Our VERY NICE waitress brought us our menus and consistently checked on us to see if we had any questions on the menu items or needed drink suggestions. Again, in the reviews, people found this annoying but I really think they're just being attentive. You guys are a hard crowd. Damn. Since we wanted to try as many of the RW menu items as possible, we decided to mix and match. For apps, we tried the Spicy Beef Salad which was kinda weird and the Fried Spring Rolls, which were awesome. In regards to the salad, the portion was HUGE and definitely more than enough for 2 people to split, but the beef just tasted like cold cut roast beef which was extremely strange and off-putting although the dressing was bomb. Definitely not something I'd order again (or something I'd want to pay full price for). For entrees, we tried the Grilled Salmon which was cooked perfectly, and the Spicy Chicken. The chicken was pretty good in my opinion, but I didn't realize that it was going to be a dish of fried chicken pieces. Very interesting and unexpected, and heavy on the turmeric. We also tried each of the sides, one plain Jasmine Rice and one Sticky Rice which just looked like fried rice to me. I didn't try the Sticky Rice because the staff advised that it was made with sesame, but it didn't seem like I was missing much there. For dessert, we tried one of each of the options - one Lemon Tart and one sorbet which comes with a scoop of raspberry and a scoop of coconut. I really enjoyed both. It was the standard $42 pp and excluded drinks. No surprises there. I'm happy we have this spot a try during RW because I'd be kind of annoyed if a spent a ton of $$$ on that glorified roast beef salad. All in all though, a very pleasant experience. read more

I've been meaning to try this place for a while and finally got a reservation for restaurant week!! I came with a friend with a 6:30pk Resy and was promptly seated. Service was impeccable from coat check, to having our table layered with napkins because of tiny splatter of sauces, to switching plate during every course, and having all our questions patiently answered. Also unrelated, all the waitresses here look like supermodels! Moving on to the value of restaurant week, I was surprised at the portions given for restaurant week considering that the beef salad itself (an appetizer choice) was $19 and the entire 3 course was $42 (not taking into account that entrees are typically in the $30s)! Last but not least, the taste. I think appetizers (beef tartare and beef salad) were by far my favorite from the flavor profile to freshness. Entrees (shaking beef and Saigon chicken) were cooked perfectly, especially the beef. The sticky rice was delicious as well, though a tad cold and I would've liked a bit more salt. And then dessert was kinda meh. Not that it wasn't good, but nothing too special to write home about. Overall would highly recommend, especially for date night :) read more

We popped by on a Friday night after hearing many good things about this restaurant. The food and atmosphere were incredible but the service sucked. Everyone here seems "cool" - think of a subtle almost casual yet highbrow feel. You would wear a blazer and jeans to a place like this or the likes of a tuxedo dress. This is a great spot for people watching, but food is also noteworthy. The shaken beef was excellent; tender and well textured thick chunks of meat. The duck was slightly more flavorful - very well marinated, cut, and presented. The only issue is that our server didn't really seem to want to interact with us (we weren't as well dressed). This is not the place to be casual. I would definitely recommend this place for an elevated take on Vietnamese food. read more

This restaurant has been on my must go-to list for a while. I was so happy when I was able to get a reservation for 5 here for restaurant week. The vibe is trendy. I loved the decor (leaves on the wall) and how spacious it was. The wait staff are all gorgeous and looked exotic with accents. It felt as if I was on vacation somewhere exotic. The restaurant menu looked so good, it was hard to choose. I ordered the spicy beef salad to start. I really did not like it so I switched with my husband who ordered the ravioli. Everyone else at the table seemed to like the spicy beef salad, it was just not for me. My sister's boyfriend ordered the noodle salad and it was delicious. For the entree, my sister and brother ordered salmon, it was moist and tasty. I ordered the chicken, which was delicious. Loved that it had lemongrass flavor. My husband and my sister's boyfriend got the shaking beef. The beef was much tastier than the beef on the salad. Every entree came with a choice of jasmine rice or sticky rice. I ordered the sticky rice. It was mixed with scallions and some other veggies and was delicious. For dessert, I chose the sorbet. I o my for coconut because I am allergic to red food dye and was nervous it would be in that. The sorbet was delicious. Those at my table who ordered the sorbet, wished they only got the coconut. They all complained that the raspberry was too tart. We all ordered one cocktail. I had one with bourbon in it that was very tasty. The presentation of the food and cocktails were done very well. The service was also pretty good except the waitress added Evian water to our bill. She did quickly take it off though. I did not like that the bus boy cleared the plates before we were done and that the hostess mispronounced my very easy to say name 3x even though I corrected her each time. All in all, I am happy that I went. We all had a great time. We were all pleasantly surprised at how big the portions were. One thing remains consistent since the 80s snooty service by skinny people! The food this time was nearly inedible, cold and tasteless! I don't think they even bothered with the most basic - salt! The booth we were given to accommodate 4 average sized adults barely worked - I guess they just want skinny people to feel comfortable. As to the ambiance, my friend was "attacked" by one of the potted decorative plants, which took about 15 minutes for our server to realize it might be a good idea to move the intruding plant. They even managed to screw up an expresso- serving it cold and watered down.... What has happened?? Finally, it took a while to get our coats as the person getting our coats stood around, reading and laughing at something on the screen at the entrance - or was she laughing at us?? If it were possible to give negative stars, I would. Showed up with a 11pm reservation and they told us they were booked for a private event. Instead of apologizing, they attacked us saying that we booked the wrong date and it was impossible for us to have booked a reservation until I showed them the reservation in their own system. Even after that they were complete jerks and instead of admitting fault, apologizing and accommodating (or offer an alternative), they blamed it on us (even with proof from their own reservation system) and said that we needed to "move along" because there was nothing they could do. Seriously worst hospitality that I've ever seen and have never experienced such degrading, insulting service from a restaurant in my life. My wife and I came here over the weekend for our 3rd wedding anniversary as it was where we had our 3rd date. I put the anniversary info in the reservation - and they did not forget. We were taken immediately to our table - a nice corner table. We ordered the fried spring rolls with chicken, the sea bass and the skirt steak. Everything was amazing. When a restaurant can take seemingly mundane items and make them dazzle, it is a sign of an excellent kitchen. It probably explains the enduring longevity of Indochine. Every bite of my steak was sublime, delicious and astonishing. My wife's sea bass didn't look like much, but she thought it was incredible. From a service perspective, everything was fantastic. They were packed during our visit and they still did well to clear plates, fill drinks and bring things to the table, with no sense of panic. They asked if we needed to be out by a certain time, not to rush us, but just in case we needed to get to a theater or something. They finished things off with a special dessert for us. Perfect execution by their team. On such a special day for us, they made us feel special. I very much look forward to my next visit. read more

It is NYFW and we knew it would be busy, our server said it was the most busy they had been in a year but we couldn't tell! We arrived early for our indoor reservation and easily waited with cocktails, got seated early and transferred our tab no problem, got another round within minutes of it putting them in. For my app I had the Lotus Salad *very good BUT spicy*, Marinated Grilled Salmon w/ Sticky Rice for my entree *Salmon was charred to perfection & the rice tasty* & a Lemon Tart as my dessert *the flavors of my tart and margarita didn't mix well*. I was excited, and now I know why, from the minute we stepped in, to the moment we left, everyone was incredible, inviting atmosphere, friendly and knowledgeable service . I had the shaken beef and it was absolutely delicious the beef was tender melted in your mouth, my partner had the duck and he said it's one of the best he's ever had. Yes, you are beautiful and you are chic and you are thin and you are dressed to the nines. But please start treating your customers with warmth and respect. Went here with a friend to grab a bite to eat at this iconic spot for restaurant week. After perusing the menu, we decided to split a few dishes: Fried spring rolls (4 stars): These were actually quite tasty and came in a serving of 4 rolls, which made them super easy to split. Steamed Vietnamese ravioli (3.5 stars): These were definitely interesting, but I thought that they lacked a little bit of flavor overall. Saigon chicken (3 stars): This chicken was good, but was super simple and did not feel very elevated. Grilled salmon (4 stars): The salmon was cooked well--maybe a little too crispy/burnt for me, but my friend really enjoyed it. I also really enjoyed the broth it was in as well. Ribs (5 stars): So they accidentally brought this dish over to us and let us keep it and I am happy they did. It was definitely the best dish of the night as the meat was super tender and the spice rub they use was absolutely divine. Definitely a must order when you visit. Classic french lemon tart (3 stars): This was pretty average and about what you would expect from a lemon tart. Coconut and raspberry sorbet (3.5 stars): The coconut was definitely the better of the two. Not sure why they combined them--should have served them in separate serving dishes to keep them from melting into each other. Overall, this place served up some good dishes and some average dishes, but the extra plate of ribs really pushed this to 4 stars or me. Indochine is a New York classic for a reason! The decor is fantastic and the helpful and efficient waitstaff add to the general all-round good time atmosphere that pervades here. The food is wonderful, the portions are generous, and there are so many delicious things on the menu I always struggle to choose. I'd recommend ordering a whole bunch of stuff for the table. It's not strictly Vietnamese food as they add their own little flourishes and the flavours are all very fresh and well balanced. Indochine has a good selection of inventive cocktails, including some non-alcoholic ones, all of which compliment the food and taste wonderful. The food was pretty spot on and the portion sizes were very generous for RW standards: Apps: Spicy Beef Salad - Awesome. Big 'manly' salad. I read a couple reviews that said the dressing was a bit too spicy, but I thought it was just perfect. Normally I'd steer clear of a salad, thinking it'd be too light or dainty. Not this one. Boom. Steamed Vietnamese Ravioli - nice presentation, nothing too too special, but totally fine and all were happily consumed. Dipping sauce was actually quite good too. Mains: Roasted Boneless Cornish Hen - tender, juicy good. Good size too. I would normally be somewhat getting chicken when dining fancy (kind of plain...I can make it myself), but the cornish hen was really good! Marinated Hanger Steak - well seasoned, daikon cut the heartiness of the steak nicely. Yumm. Side: Sticky rice with dried baby shrimp and Vietnamese sausage - I was actually surprised a side was included, and this is wayyyy better than your typical side jasmine rice. No brainer. Dessert: Chocolate Truffle Cake - Pretty good, I mean, it's chocolate cake. But nothing epic. Salter Caramel Ice Cream - I'm an ice cream guy, so this with the chocolate cake made me happy. Indochine is such a trendy and cool spot. It has palm leaves lining the wall and is dimly lit with red lights, very exotic 80's theme. If you go between 5:30-7 or so they have a pre-theater menu which is definitely the best value for your buck, even though it doesn't have the more traditional Vietnamese dishes like pho. However, still very delicious and flavorful. For appetizers, we ordered the spicy squid and spring rolls. Presentation is definitely A+ here. For our entree, we ordered the spicy chicken and sizzling beef which comes in a hot flat plate. Definitely get the sticky rice, it's the type of rice that you find wrapped in banana leaves for the autumn festival. So much flavor and made the meal so savory. The desserts weren't anything I would say is super special and unique but it still was delicious. We had the chocolate mousse cake and the lemon tart, both very rich and sweet.
