We're visiting Solvang but decided to try something a little further out from town. The vibe here is nice, very laid back. Lots of kids running around and families spending some quality time together. Cashier was friendly but was definitely distracted talking to the barista, so he didn't catch when we ordered a beer that was out of stock until after we paid. We ordered the potato & sage pizza and short rib shepherds pie. The shepherds pie was definitely the winner, super tender pieces of meat and great flavor. Third time's the charm. The two other times I've come here, the line has been so long that we did not wait. On Tuesday at 1 o'clock, we walked right in. The only problem is that there was not time to study the menu. Plus we were hungry. The counter fellow helped us make choices. Hidden on a industrial/residential area of the small town Buellton is this unique fusion eatery that has garnered great fame. When I told my friends I'm visiting the central coast, they recommended this place right away! We arrived on a Tuesday night and the line went all the way out of the store! They don't take reservations so waiting in line is the only way... But it wasn't too bad. We got to the counter in about 15 minutes and we're able to order quickly. Most items were under $20. We ordered the smoked Pheasant Salad, the Pappardelle, and the beef short ribs. All good. The short ribs were a bit too salty. The salad has a nice citric vinaigrette type of dressing so nice contrast to the pappardelle, which was nicely prepared with chanterelle and spinach in a cream sauce! The atmosphere was warm and friendly. Guests share large tables and chitchat. Very casual ambiance but the food quality was superb. Many drive from Southern California to pay homage to this great eatery! That said, we had the good luck of having visited their "sister location" (as a local told us), the Eye on I in Lompoc. While they are similar (both fusion with European and Asian tastes) and wonderful, I rated Eye on I a tit higher just because their use of the Asian elements seemed more creative to me. We have eaten here many times and enjoyed the food and the experience. Saturday was a disappointment. We arrived in time to be the second group in line waiting for it to open. Ordered the seasonal panzanella salad with heirloom tomatoes which was lovely, and my favorite pizza: prosciutto, tallegio, arugula. It was almost inedible. Perhaps it was the first pizza of the day and the pizza oven was just too hot, the crust was so hard it was enough to break a tooth and there was a ridiculous amount of red pepper flakes which completely ruined the taste of what was edible. Even worse, no one checked to see how the food was and by the time it came, the line was so long to order that getting anyone's attention was hopeless. I liked the fennel sausage pizza, light thin crust and plenty of hand made sausage. My only gripe was the size was a personal small plate. TL:DR -- Easy 5 stars restaurant serving an eclectic mix of dishes that don't fit a typical genre type. Very delicious. Priced reasonable. Limited seating especially for big groups, order everything the first time unless you plan to wait in line for 20 minutes and probably another 20-30 mins. We cancelled our reservations for dinner at a winery in Los Olivos to have dinner here -- the handwritten on butcher paper menu called out to us. A menu like that generally changes often and is representative of a chef's hit list than serving what every other restaurant is doing. Truly wanted to order half the menu, everything sounded great. Here's what we ordered: Oyster, uni, avocado -- saw another table eating raw sea urchin (freshly prepared) and I asked the counter for it and she pointed me to this. Basically a freshly shucked oyster, with avocado slices and a small piece of uni. Good, fresh, but not special. Reuben (beef tongue pastrami) -- many reviewers recommend this and so do I. It's really tasty. The beef tongue is tender, meaty, and melts in your mouth. Tastes like a typical pastrami sandwich but just so much better. I can eat this daily. Mozzarella, tomato, basil pizza -- ordered this for the kids. It's tasty, pizza on the smallish size, and the edges got blackened. Kids didn't like the burnt taste and the pizzas take a while to come out from the clay oven. Morel mushroom angel hair -- our table's favorite. Morel mushrooms are so delicious, got just a taste when split amongst 6 but it's really good. Order it if you see it on the menu. Lamb Curry -- this one is my least favorite, partially because it was the last dish to arrive and everyone was mostly full. So I ate most of it as not ideal to have leftovers when visiting from out of town and staying at a hotel. Not very lamb-y, the diced meat could have been chicken. Very rich sauce, not enough rice to soak up the sauce. Escargot in Butter Sauce -- Served with toast, the escargot was fresh, not overly cooked or chewy and was great. Little gems, Boquerones, pancetta, egg -- nice salad, loved the little anchovies. Would have ordered more dishes but the line just kept growing and growing out the door to order. And if I had waited in line, then it'll be a long wait for the food to come out too. So reluctantly, called it a night but will definitely come back next time. read more

This place is a gem. My extended family invited me to go wine tasting, and after our excursion we ended up here for dinner. DID. NOT. DISAPPOINT. The pheasant was tender and had a good smoky flavor to it. The addition of the apple slices added some sweetness to it. Make sure to mix the salad dressing well with the greens. When I ate the radicchio on its own, it was way too bitter, but the vinaigrette really toned down the bitterness. White shrimp- OMG...the sauce with this dish was garlicky and delicious. There were about 4 shrimp in the dish so it could have used more...but the shrimp itself was big and delicious. If you are willing to wait awhile for high quality, locally sourced, unique food, then come on down to Industrial Eats! While visiting the area for Presidents' Day weekend, my fiance and I tried stopping in for dinner. We waited 10-15 minutes in line, then were told it would take about 45 minutes to prepare our order (we only wanted 2 sandwiches). We didn't want to wait that long, so we decided to come the next day for lunch instead, hoping we wouldn't have to wait if we came at opening. No such luck. We arrived 5 minutes before opening and there was a crowd of people already outside the restaurant. We then waited in line for 30 minutes and got our sandwiches 20 minutes after ordering, so it was a roughly similar wait time as the night before would have been. I personally don't mind waiting that long for good food, but my fiance, who is a little less patient than me, was fuming. If you want to come for lunch, I'd recommend coming VERY early if you can, or during odd hours. The food itself was definitely great quality though, so I understand why this place is so popular - my fiance got the beef tongue pastrami reuben and I got the smoked turkey sandwich with basil mayo and arugula. The ingredients tasted so fresh! I loved the smokey flavor of the turkey with the slight peppery bitterness of the arugula and the basil mayo to balance it out. The beef tongue sandwich was such a unique concept that I felt truly improved upon the classic reuben we all know and love. It was quite heavy and dripping in grease, but SO so delicious. Overall, great food with great ingredients, just less than ideal wait times. Next time I'm in the area, and if I'm not in a hurry, I would like to come back and try one of their pizzas! read more

My husband and I are so happy that we finally tried Industrial Eats!!! It has been on our list for the past few years, since we try to do a roadtrip to Los Olivos every now and then. However, we were never able to make it for one reason or another, since their hours can be quite strange, and this was never a great match with our wine tasting appointments. But FINALLY we tried it this past weekend!!! I'm so glad we did. We LOVED our food. My husband got the smoked turkey and arugula sandwich, and I got the Banh Mi sandwich. Both sound typical, even boring, if you have never seen pictures or been to this restaurant before. However, they were EXTRAORDINARY! For the turkey sandwich, the turkey was sliced super thinly, creating a delicious effect. The bread they used was fantastic - so fresh, and matching to the fresh, fresh, fresh vegetable ingredients. For my Banh Mi, crispy pork was the meat used, and by crispy pork, I mean basically like a pork tonkatsu!!! Wow. It tasted so amazing in the sandwich, especially with the hoisin and sriracha sauce. I believe there was some other magic ingredient inside the sandwich though...a secret sauce that was not mentioned?! Sure tasted like it. We arrived a little after 12pm on a Saturday, and waited about 30 mins to place our order. Our food came in about 15 mins! Not bad, considering the place was packed. I learned from another customer that you can actually CALL IN your order ahead of time by phone....wish I knew that tip. There was no indoor dining at this point in time, just outdoor seating. Honestly, I hated the outdoor seating. There were only about 7 tables available. There were so many customers still eating or waiting for their orders, that we ended up having to eat on their plant box bannister, bordering the restaurant....super lame. We have eaten here numerous times! I got the Banh Mi sandwich...it was a pork tenderloin, way over cooked and dry!!!! The bun was huge and way overwhelmed the sandwich and lacked dressing on the bread. I thought crispy pork would be more of bacon type or pork belly sandwich. The Cuban definitely changed from recent visits and lacked the original traditional cuban sandwich. Not to mention, the cashier has always lacked friendliness and customer service which I have ignored but today "got my goat" so I had to share.
