Industry Cafe & Jazz is a cozy Ethiopian restaurant with live jazz music! I came with a group of friends on a Friday evening and we had a wonderful time enjoying the flavorful food and live music. The staff were so warm and friendly and genuinely wanted us to enjoy our experience at the restaurant. Parking is street parking. The one thing to note is that as expected, the live music can get quite loud above normal conversation volume. The food was so delicious and satisfying! We got the vegetarian platter (comes with yellow lentils, cabbage and potato blend, collard greens, and red lentils which have quite the kick!), the lamb tibs, and the chicken tibs (they had run out of their doro wat - classic Ethiopian chicken dish). We love coming to Industry Cafe and Jazz! The live music is always fun and creates such a great vibe. Eritrean food is absolutely delicious--my favorites are the sambus appetizer, the doro wat chicken dish, and the spicy lentils. They are generous with their wine pours, and the imported Eritrean beer is definitely worth a try. And it's all so reasonably priced! The owner is awesome about offering recommendations if you're new to this style of food, and the staff is always so warm and welcoming when we bring our kids. Our younger two have sensory issues and no one bats an eye or hesitates to accommodate their needs, which is refreshing. Incredible flavors accompanied by peaceful jazz. Came on a Thursday night where there was a live pianist playing a mixture of holiday songs and other popular tunes. Paired with the screen fireplace and incense burning it made for a perfect cozy ambience on a rainy day. The food was fantastic with tender meats and lots of flavor packed dishes. This is a conditional 4 star rating based on 3 visits. Such an interesting find! This place has a very relaxed atmosphere, good food, and live jazz music in the evening. The food menu is a combination of soul food and Ethiopian/Eritrean, which they do very well. Great staff as well! I would give the place 5 stars were it not for the fact that the last time we went, about 7:30 on a Saturday night, they were out of the catfish and when I settled on a burger... they were out of that too. We're regulars here and it's always a great time , and of all the times I've been here with my husband, tonight was the best night for music . There was so many acts and the latin jazz band was the best. The men on sax , just WOW!! All of them were so good! The singer who sang the Cumbian songs was great! They were so talented! It was by far, the best music I've seen here. BUT, it was also the WORST night that I've been here . As I was enjoying the music, and really loving it, someone (who was working there) rudely walked up and started rapping gibberish jargon thinking he was the next Kanye West. He was awful and annoying and needed to ruin everyone's night with the incoherent babbling that killed the whole vibe. Even the band didn't like him just interrupting like that. I don't know why management would let this happen. They need to tell him that ain't rapping. It was total disrespect . I just hope it never happens again for other people, because everyone seemed really uncomfortable while it was happening. I don't think people came to see a grade school talent night performance. This is a hidden gem! We found free street parking about a block away. If you have never had ethiopian food, this is a must. Walked in with my friend and they immediately serviced us. They usually play good jazz music in the background and on weekends they have live jazz music! We were walked through the menu to make sure we had a good understanding of the food. We ended up getting the Vegetarian Platter and the Doro Wat. They put it all together on the platter for us. This came with Injera bread, which is soft, rolled up, and has a slightly sour taste, similar to sourdough. They offered more to us later too! The flavors are so good! Lots a delicious seasoning. My favorite was the Doro Wat, which is a chicken dish. The chicken was SOOOO tender and teh sauce on it was delicious! At the end of the meal, they checked in and asked how we liked it. They were really friendly and welcoming. I'll definitely be back to try some other dishes here. I'd love to try the lamb next time! read more

Dennis is a multi talented sax player who plays at many big band (including Bill Holmam Big Band!) and this quartet futures his own composition. We wanted Ethiopian food so decided to give this place a try. Nice atmosphere with jazz band, but we honestly were just there for the food. I ordered the Veggie platter and my son ordered the chicken stew. Unfortunately somebody before he ordered the last one so he got lamb instead. Both were excellent and our server was awesome, although I forgot her name (we were there for dinner on 1/24). Parking could be sketchy but we did find parking on that Sunday and it was metered. What a lovely start to a rockin' Saturday night! I can't believe it took me so long to have a visit to Industry cafe + Jazz! Arrived here at around 7:30pm on Saturday and the ambiance was so relaxed and cozy. Maybe it was a special night, but many of the patrons seemed to know one another which contributed to the comfortable vibe. As for the food, I only had some french fries and a few glasses of wine, so I can't speak much of it. The fries were good and for 4 bucks, was a pretty good deal for snacking on. Such a great start to my Saturday night! I know that Industry Cafe does a weekly Wednesday night jazz jam, so I will definitely find myself here for some middle of the week Jazz. read more

I really enjoy live music and this place has it going on! Wednesday through Saturday the music ranges from classic Jazz to R&B which makes for a nice setting if you're on a date or just out with friends. The service is fair. There is just one server who waits on all tables but once you place your order, things are brought out fast. The food is okay, After going there twice and trying two traditional Ethiopian dishes, I realize that I just don't like Ethiopian food. A friend recommended this spot for great Ethiopian/Eritrean food and it did not disappoint! We ordered the vegetable plate and the chicken tibs to share - the tibs come with a choice of 1 veggie and a salad, we chose the collard greens. They offered to combine it all on one plate for us which was convenient, and gave us extra injera on the side. We also tried the sambusas (lentil filled samosa-like appetizer), which I enjoyed. Total per person was around $23 before tip ($19-20 per plate split between two people + $3 sambusa). For the amount of food we got I felt the value was great compared to similar spots!!! The food tasted very good as well - I loved the chicken tibs - flavorful and perfectly cooked - and the vegetables (red lentil, yellow lentil, cabbage/carrot, collards, salad) were all delicious additions to make the meal enjoyable!! Was also pleasantly surprised how FAST the food came out!! We placed our order and I kid you not it came out in under 5 minutes. Our waitress was very kind. There's a ton of indoor (and some outdoor) seating. Street parking only. Bathrooms on-site (& clean unlike old reviews I read). And live jazz music!!! Suggestions for improvement: 1) The music is way too loud. Loved the live jazz band but the speaker needed to be turned down a lot because we were yelling to each other the entire meal. 2) Only 1 waiter, so on a busy night it took a while for us to get our water refilled and get the check. Also appreciated the owner/chef coming out to check in with us and see how the meal is! A nice personal touch and he welcomed us to the restaurant and to the family! My friend and I walked past this beautiful gem of an establishment after a concert organized by Synchromy and we heard some jazz playing inside-- we really couldn't resist. The music was amazing, the musicians were warm and welcoming, and the service was splendid. It was almost closing time for the restaurant -- but we really didn't want much apart from a slice of dessert (tiramisu), a coffee and some jazz tunes (first Saturday of every month!). We really had an amazing time and I can't wait to come back and actually try their food (I am such a sucker for Ethiopian). Overall, HIGHLY RECOMMEND. read more
