My A/C was still blowing cold--the clutch was just squealing, and I couldn't stand the noise anymore. I supplied the replacement part myself, and after giving them my vehicle's year, make, model, and engine information, I was quoted $520 for the installation and refrigerant recharge. I agreed to the price and dropped the car off. The next day, they called and said there would be an additional charge because they "weren't aware" of the type of refrigerant my car uses. This was frustrating because they had all of my vehicle information before I even brought it in. Suddenly, the new price was $750. I told them I needed some time to think about it and would call them back. About 5-10 minutes later, they called again and said the compressor clutch bolt was seized and that I would need an entirely new compressor. My options were either to replace the compressor or have them reinstall my old one. No pricing was discussed during this call, so I told them to just put my original compressor back on. A few hours later, I called to see if my car was ready, and they acted like it had been sitting there waiting for me. Then they told me the bill was $390. They eventually agreed to $300 cash, but here's the problem: my A/C worked when I brought the car in, and now it doesn't work at all because they evacuated the refrigerant and never recharged it. I understand to an extent paying for labor. But charging me $300 after leaving my car in worse condition than when I dropped it off is unacceptable. Their labor rate is $130 per hour, and the timeline of the phone calls doesn't seem to support three hours of labor. A little understanding, detailed communication, & customer service would have gone a long way. Instead, they earned $300, a one-star review, and lost a repeat customer.

VERY BAD BUSINESS! Took it elsewhere and found most of what they did wasn't needed. Kevin's Auto Repair needs to be renamed to Let's Make It Worse or Costs You an Arm and A Leg! They diagnosed the vehicle with needing to replace the brakes, and found the source of one of the squeals to be a broken part, and removed it- which stopped the noise. Great value- feel like I probably would have paid substantially more at chain place for the same service I got here. The communication was also great. Will definitely be using them for any other mechanical needs my car may have in the future.

I'm thinking they're the Dire or Dwire family, & 3 of 'em were the mechanics. This is more than 20 years ago. Apologies if I'm bungling their surname. They kept me employed by keeping my POSs running. A few times they put parts I'd pulled from junkyard. They'd warranty the workmanship, but not a part I got from god knows where. They'd also order new parts for people, but that was rarely a problem I had. Never had an issue. Never left feeling screwed over. More than once they worked up to or past their closing time to get my roommate or me underway to the far north side where we worked. Once, they even let me bring them cash the next morning instead of making me find an ATM and be late. Paying dealership prices and dealing with dealership level responsibility hot potato and I would have been unemployed followed shortly by homeless. I can't thank them enough. Excellent mechanics, and all around very decent people. 5/5 would recommend all day. I can't say enough nice things about them. Keep being awesome! Cheers!

Never gave him an opportunity to choose a battery that was affordable to him and charged him $400 for a battery that sells for $220 at Autozone. Not trustworthy whatsoever.
