My car needed a new starter and we were recommended this shop by an acquaintance who usually does some easier work on our car. My husband called and spoke with the staff and they were able to schedule us in a few days. We dropped our car off the day before. They were able to fix the issue the day of appointment and also found another issue which they quickly called and explained to us so we could address. The staff are very honest, explain everything well and were kind. The prices are fair for the work being completed and much more reasonably priced than a dealership. I started coming to Freeman Tire and Automotive in college and have always been taken care of instead of taken advantage of. Mark and his staff are personable, willing to explain things in laymen's terms, and the prices are fair. Since college, I've moved further north & recently had another shop take a look at a sound coming from the front right wheel. They quoted $1800 for struts. Fortunately, I had a second opinion at Freeman and they found the true source of the problem- not the struts, but a wheel bearing that was nearly falling apart (& only $350). This place is an old school garage. There is a relatively small waiting area that is shared with a counter and desk. There is free Wi-Fi so you can work while you wait for your car to be finished. I would advise you make arrangements to drop your car off for service as it is hard for them to pin point a time for your service/repair. That is not completely unexpected to me but was a little bit of a learning curve so consider yourself warned. The service here is pretty awesome. I bought a set of 4 brand new-50k mile tires for under $400 that included install with life time complimentary tire rotation! Great value! Now I go here for oil changes too because it is cost effective and they have earned my trust. They were honest with me and steered me in a good direction for my tires. As a woman, I have had other Automotive places try to take advantage of me, but NOT here. They gave me options and prices. I had a great experience. I have had my tires through all of winter now and I am happy to say that my all seasons did great in the crazy weather we had this year! read more

Today's good service/attaboy award: I had to take my 2001 high mileage Honda CR-V to the shop because the back hatch/gate handle quit working. I took it to Mark @ Freeman Tire on E Troy Ave. They took the time to fix it rather than automatically replacing it. $60 and in and out the same day (with a pre-scheduled appointment)!!! I love these guys! I have been using them since I moved to Indy 10 years ago. Always a fair price and they never recommend anything that isn't necessary (though they will tell you about things you can do if you want to.) Honest. That's the best way to describe Freeman Tire and Auto. I just moved to the south side of Indy and I was nervous about finding a good honest mechanic and Yelp reviews led me to Freeman. I have been so impressed with the way they honestly look for ways to save you money. They just did the brakes on my car and the total was $100 less than the quote that I had already agreed to pay! They could have easily charged me the original amount but they didn't! That's honesty. And that's why I'll only take my cars there as long as I'm in Indy. I would even feel 100% comfortable sending my wife there because I know they would be honest with her too! If you live anywhere near the south side you should take your car there. read more

I'm not much of one to write a review, and definitely never thought I'd be writing one for an auto shop, but my experience here has been unbelievably great and this is the least I could do to show my appreciation. I'm not from Indy but was in town for several weeks. After getting a pricey quote from the dealership for a fix on my car, I called around to several different shops asking for a second opinion and to compare quotes. These guys were the most upfront and honest with me on the phone -- often difficult to come by especially as a woman -- so I decided to make an appointment. They explained what my car really needed and didn't need and made sure I understood (again, as a woman I've never gotten this treatment in any auto shop before!), they got the job done quickly (dropped it off and picked it up the next day), did everything at a reasonable price instead of trying to rip me off, and are all around good people. Decided to bring another car in for a simple oil change. When I called to make an appointment they were busy so I set something up for 3 days later. My travel plans changed and when I called they were able to squeeze me in a day early. I waited with my car and was in and out in half an hr. They were busy, but took the time to talk to each customer and their needs. Seems like a great team of people there. Only negative thing is that this place has set the bar so high, I'm afraid I won't be able to find another place like this wherever I live in the future! read more

I have been taking my car to Freeman Tire since I got my driver's license, and that was more than 25 years ago. I'd never go anywhere else. (In fact, I've joked that if they ever moved, I'd have to move, too.) Everyone in my family takes their car to Freeman, and I've recommended them to many friends, too. Any time someone is having a car issue and wants a suggestion, Freeman is at the top of my list. I know nothing about cars except how to turn on the ignition and air up the tires. I'd be skeptical of most mechanics, but Freeman is trustworthy and has never done work that wasn't warranted. If they can't fix your car, they'll tell you, and they'll give you a suggestion of where to take it. These guys have old-fashioned values and work ethic that you just don't see in other repair shops. They're won't overcharge you either. As a matter of fact, I'm often surprised at how reasonable their services are. Do yourself and your car a favor and take your car to Freeman. You'll never go anywhere else once you let them service your car the first time. Their shop doesn't spend money on fancy lobby furniture or pictures, so don't be turned off by the grittiness of the sitting room. Instead, know that you're in a downhome kind of shop, and have fun reading the clips on the bulletin board that have been posted there for as long as I can remember. This place is great! They get busy, so call Monday or Tuesday for work done that week. I like to drop my car off on Sunday night then voila! Monday after work it's finished. Like magic! Freeman's price on a new timing belt, water pump and fixing an oil leak was about $200 less (yes, it's true) than several shops I called who bothered to return my call. A friend recommended Freeman's and I will always go there. As busy as they get, their communications were great and always personable. The work was done right the first time. My "old" car has never run better! And I'd like to thank the four other shops I called for an estimate who didn't bother to call back. If it wasn't for them ignoring my calls, I might never have found Freeman's! Do call in advance for an appointment because they ARE busy. Freeman Tire is awesome! The business is family owned, and it shows in the quality service they provide. I usually take my car to have the oil changed at a commercial shop (Jiffylube, Midas, etc.), and of-course when I walk out they insist I need ~$500 dollars in repairs. Well when I go for a second opinion at Freeman, they normally laugh the repairs off as not needing immediate attention. However, they will give me a quote for all the repairs listed and its usually half the price or less. With all these commercial shops trying to "take you for a ride" you can trust Freeman to be honest. I've referred friends that live in the area, and would suggest anyone looking for an honest mechanic look no further than Freeman. S/N: The place is very old school and a little dirty. There are not enough words to say how great Freeman Tire is. I have never met such honest people as they are. I was having problems with my car and of course i listened to other people and spent around $300 on parts and it still was not fixed. Someone recommended Freeman Tire which is right around the corner from where I live. They fixed my car for $50. I have since referred my sister and nephew both to Freeman Tire and they are satified with the repairs they got on their cars also. Freeman Tire will always be in my prayers.
