This place was great! I can't believe how many times I've driven by and been in too much of a hurry - slow down and go!!! I had three tacos - fish, barbacoa and chorizo. I really can't even pick a favorite! Everything was just right. The Fish was tender and the sauce had just enough spice to it to make it 100% enjoyable! The chorizo was just like I make it at home but better because I didn't have to, LOL! The barbacoa wasn't fatty, only juicy and very flavorful! Not a fancy place by any means! Well out to grab some quick Mexican food without having to wait, I searched through my bookmarks and being new in town and not an insider yet, saw a tremendous amount of traffic for the first two weeks it's been open. So up to SoBro I go!! I arrived it what appeared as a shopping complex that's had better days. I think this shopping center may have been featured in Judgement Night featuring Denis Leary, but now I'm digressing. So I abscond from my car with my wallet and shuffle inside. My first impression of here was that it was new considering there was just a cloth sign covering the previous owners sign. The interior is not much to look at, but I was there for one thing. Tacos!! I said hi to the owner who was more than polite and decided on 4 tacos, one of each meat. I had a seat while my mouth watered. Before I knew it the food was in front of me and the CCTV captured me drooling. If you are unfamiliar with authentic Mexican tacos they consist of double wrapped corn shells with meat, white onion, and cilantro. Here they are also served with lime, cucumber, and red and green sauces on the side, nice touch. No cheese for you, and that suits me just fine. Now Indy tacos let me taste your wares! The chicken -very juicy and flavorful, very spiced but not spicy. 5 The steak-insanely juicy and meaty. Strong taste of pepper. This was the best of the bunch. 5+ Chorizo- oh how I love you. Mexican sausage, spicy, full flavor. 5 Al pastor-I wasn't digging the pineapple flavor but I'd still give it a solid 4. When I come back I'll probably get it to go and take it to the park, because the inside of the restaurant makes me feel like I'm in a cubicle, but the food more than made up for the lack of quality ambiance. There is no problem a taco can't fix. Indy Tacos popped up in my neighborhood a few weeks ago, and during that time I had three people tell me I had to stop by. We went for an early dinner around 5:30 on a weekday. The owners are super excited to finally start their businesses. You can tell because when you walk in they take the time to explain the menu to you and after you get your food, they ask you how much you enjoyed your meal. Everyone was all smiles - and so was I, especially after I bite into the chorizo taco. All of the tacos are made with soft corn tortillas doubled up around four meat options: chicken, steak, chorizio and pork. We ordered one of each (about $2.50 per taco) to try. Every one of them was delicious but the flavors in the chorizo really made me close my eyes and think about how happy I was at that exact moment. The pork comes not shredded but chunks that are swimming in some kind of chili sauce. Nothing was too spicy - but that's OK because the green and red salsa that accompanied the meal can take care of your need for extra heat. Chips and salsa are a must - especially the homemade guac. The elote is just what I wanted - corn on a cob with a little mayo, a little cheese and a unique blend of spices. Great street style tacos...generously filled, traditionally served, double wrapped in corn tortilla goodness. Went with two of the steak tacos (cilantro, onions) and a mango chutney (little more spicy, different onions) and treated myself to a Jarritos. Cucumber and radish side was a nice touch and the salsa verde was on point. Almost wish I had ordered a fourth taco...really really good. Lots to love here. I will say that with the high amount of five star reviews from fellow Elite members for Indy Taco, I did have some sort of expectations going in. I love the location because it's right near my apartment but I can see how the location could also be a flaw. We went on a Friday evening at 7pm, and it was quite busy. There were two others in line and more than half of the seats were taken. The (only) guy working at the front was very helpful and knew exactly what was in each dish when we asked him. He had suggestions, and I appreciate that. I got the avocado quesadilla and a side of chips and salsa. The chips were...different. Something about them didn't seem complete. But I loved the chunks of cilantro in the salsa. It took awhile for our food to come out, but I wasn't frustrated about that part. I was a little confused as to why only one staff member was manning the front area (at the register, taking orders, cleaning tables, delivering food, getting refills, etc) on a Friday night. I wasn't a fan cause it took nearly 10 min to get my bottle of water and our chips and salsa. We didn't even get our napkins and silverware till the food came out. And even then, I only got one set. My friend did not. The side of lettuce and tomato and white sauce was a bit underwhelming for how big the quesadilla was, but the actual quesadilla was great. Very creamy and juicy - how they should be! Overall, a good, not amazing, taco joint. I would go back not during a busy time and possibly just ordering takeout as there's nothing important to see in the actual restaurant aside from a pretty mural. The food was good, but nothing I'm dying to get again. They had a couple of vegetarian options, but I would expect some more options considering it's a Mexican joint - any option (including a burrito) could be made into a vegetarian option, so I had to go with the avocado quesadilla instead. Indy tacos is a local hole in the wall taco joint that is pretty good. Their menu is written in chalk to allow for quick and easy changes. They offer a wide variety of meats from Chicken beef and pork and occasionally offer seafood tacos that are amazing. They also offer Mexican Corn that is often hard to find. The inside is small, but the staff is nice and accommodating. They don't really have outdoor seating. This place is definitely worth a visit if you are a fan of tacos. read more

My quest for Indy's best tacos takes me to the place that's all the rage, Indy Tacos. With a name like Indy Tacos, I suppose you know what you are getting yourself into. The location certainly takes me out of my Carmel comfort zone. My partner and I ordered 4 tacos (together, not each. That would be considered obesity to many). I got the fish and the carne asada (steak). The fish was a REEL CATCH. No, really. It was super tasty. I don't know what the fish is and I sure know it's not fresh. But the mixture of the lightly breaded shrimp with the slaw on top was super flavorful. This isn't a San Diego fish taco - this is a street fish taco. The steak taco was fine and the salsa was a helpful addition. I went with the green as red generally scares me. As a read head, you've got to know when there is too much of a good thing so I steer clear of red food. He got the mango chicken and while I don't recall his specific sentiment, but I don't remember medically induced vomit or an impromptu quinceanera so we will assume it was average. The staff are awesome, plenty of parking, and Jarritos for all (assuming you pay, which they most certainly encourage). Best so far in Indy if you count legit, real-deal Mexican taqueria (which rules out Bakersfield). read more

Good amount of protein per taco when compared to other locations, and by far my favorite chorizo taco anywhere. The interior is pretty basic, but enough seating so that it is more than a to-go stop. My boys and I have been systematically trying every Taco joint in Indianapolis looking for the best one. This currently tops my list, and so far it's not close. What I liked: - I got a fajita, steak, and shrimp taco. All three were excellent. My personal favorite was the fajita, which came with chicken onions and peppers! I topped it off with salsa verde. Really great stuff - This is a hole-in-the-wall that doesn't look like much on the outside, but I was pleasantly surprised by the cleanliness inside (comparatively to other Taco places) - The staff was friendly, fast, and knew their menu very well What could've been better: - The tortillas were a little bit dry, nothing that salsa verde couldn't fix though. - I know charging for chips is normal at some places, but it was still a little sad :/. An unassuming exterior hides a divyish interior - there was seating room available at 7 on friday evening. The salsa was cooling and fresh - and a perfect simple accompaniment to chips and a corona. I got 4 tacos - all pastor, barbacoa, steak & poblano and the jalapeno chicken. Of these, the first three were probably the least "Americanized" - two corn tortillas enclosing the meat with cilantro and onion garnish. There were two sauces to lubricate the tortillas - red (hot) and green (mild). The Al pastor was probably my favorite just because the pork was so nicely cooked but the other three would all tantalize your taste buds too in different ways. The jalapeno chicken was not spicy, infact it had just a hint of the jalapeno taste without any of the heat, and the creamy sauce added some sweetness to the chicken and rice enclosed in the flour tortilla. These guys cost 2.5 to 4 dollars or in other words - a great deal. I'm going to come back again for more. read more

I will definitely return for more of the $2 tacos. You can't beat that. They aren't the biggest taco's but the chicken was cooked tenderly and seasoned well and the taco was fulfilling. The downside is they don't put cheese on the regular tacos. I wasn't paying attention but they do have a more expensive taco, so I'm wondering if that one comes with 'the works'? I also had the Mexican Corn on the Cob. It was great ! I could have stood for it to have a little less mayonnaise on it, but truth was, it didn't matter much. The food was good and affordable, which was all I could ask for on the day I went in. When I return, I will try something else on the menu.....well, I will have the corn on the cob again!! read more

If you have a food allergy, DO NOT EAT AT INDY TACO! This used to be a 5 star rating. My family used to love Indy Taco, but after my last few visits, I'm not inclined to come back. Tonight's dinner was bad and bizarre. I have a gluten allergy. I was quite clear in telling my waiter of this allergy. He even went as far as to have a kitchen staff member come talk to me about it. This was a great start! Then it took a turn. The chori fries were amazing, but they now contain gluten. I was disappointed, but ordered a side of refried beans instead. The kitchen staffer then thought it appropriate to tell me how beans will make you fart and poop. (I'm guessing this staffer is 7?) I no longer wanted these beans as the mental image he gave me was pretty unsavory before one eats a meal. Then, my tacos all came back on wheat shells, despite me asking for the corn shells that I'm not allergic to. This was so maddening as I had now discussed my allergy with two Indy taco employees. Now my wife is eating while I wait for my food to be remade. The last time they ignored my allergy and gave me wheat shells, after I reminded them I was allergic to that, they just simply put the taco filling from the wheat tacos and placed them on corn shells and gave them back 30 seconds later. This is obviously unacceptable! This story is over right? Wrong! As we are eating, a young woman, who apparently worked there but was on a day off, came in with her yapping dog! I couldn't believe it. Not a service dog. Just a little barking purse size dog. In a restaurant. Needless to say, I'm not wanting to come back to Indy Taco. Decide to try this location out while hitting a few stores near by. Decided to try the Elote corn and a few different tacos and a Quesadilla. The food fame out quick and was steaming hot and the corn tasted as good. But the steak taco was sub par and the el pastor taco was more of a pulled pork taco than the el pastor I am used too. The quesadilla was full of lettuce, sour cream etc more of an Americanized one so you better finish it because no reheating this one up nicely. This was more of a Texmex style that I am not a fan of but I know a lot of people that like that style. It is just not my style. read more

Ok I am only giving this a 4 because the bathroom was a little yucky and just needs a bit of a deep clean. Other than that we were waited on fast and our food came out super fast. We were the only people in there but people were coming in as we left. I had the chicken torts no cheese and it was delicious and filling. Solid place! If it were based only on my food, we would probably be talking 4 star. This is a hole in the wall joint, with zero frills, and some serious tacos if you pick them right. W order at the front counter, cheery employees! They bring your food out to you after you pay, I got the fish taco and the mango chicken. The fish was BOMB. It didn't really even taste like fish, probably because it was frozen, but it was tasty. The mango chicken was also super good, but I found myself dumping extra salsa on it. Speaking of salsa, the red one is so f*cking hot. Like so hot with no flavor. The green one was good. The guac- also delicious. Chunky goodness. My boyfriend got the chorizo taco and it was burn the tongue salty and according to him the mole was just bad. It looked like normal chicken with weird barbecue sauce on it. So I'm curious how hard it is to work at a taco shop. I've worked in a pizza joint, been a sandwich artist, and have sling many a beer in my day but never have I encountered the snail like pace of the taco shop employees. I walk in and wait the first five minutes for the counter person to finish his personal phone call. I know it to be personal when he says, "oh, I gotta go, there are like people here". Then begins to take our order. He finds out we're trying to dine in and refers us to a table. Sitting at said table for 10 min or so and we wonder where the people we saw behind the counter ran off to. Surely someone will bring menus or something soon. Wait more... Ok now I'm really hungry and we go back to the counter to just get food to go and eat in the car. Tasty tacos but not worth the wait or confusion that they require. read more

Tonight was our first time and it was nothing short of amazing. This place truly is a hidden gem and we're already looking forward to our next visit. Service was friendly and quick. Tacos were AMAZING. I had the Barbacoa and fish taco with a side of queso fresco and guacamole to top them off with. The meat was incredibly flavorful and the salsas they give are also some of the best I've had. Guacamole was fantastic. They were so loaded that I was able to take the second shell and make 4 tacos with all my toppings. Fast, friendly, affordable, and delicious. It's not fancy, but other than that, you won't be disappointed here. The tacos are served in a soft corn shell. They are generous with the filling. The sauces are top notch. The guacamole dip is stellar. They have real thick corn chips which are amazing. I believe this is a locally owned business, the husband makes the tacos and the wife takes your order and serves them up. So not only will your belly be happy, your conscious will be too. You could tell they used good ingredients and were made fresh to order! The atmosphere at the restaurant is not great, so we ordered our food to go.
