I've been meaning to try this place. We went today even though I was hesitant it might be a little heavy and a little spicy. It was very light, well seasoned, and not hot spicy at all! We shared, Butter Chicken, i'm telling u this a must, soo good, flavors very fresh and resonating. i don't think this had curry either and was not spicy at all. Cheese Naan, so good and i think, it's fire baked. i'm going back for that for sure. I have mixed feelings about this place. It's been open for months but when we came by one weekday evening, we thought they were still building the restaurant because the downstairs was completely empty and there was sounds of vacuuming or construction going on. it was really strange. Someone happened to come down the stairs and told us to head up there. He appears to be doing it all, manning the bar, being server and food runner. There was a smoke alarm (I think?) hanging from the ceiling, the top area is rather bare bones aesthetic. Tables line the edges. When we came, there was one mere couple in there, but suddenly the place filled up after we were seated. They seem to have a local following. I was excited to try the place because they have been very successful on social media; their Instagram posts are great. Closeup focus on the food with great lighting and vibrant colors is very effective but sort of hid how much the ambiance is lacking. If I am going out to eat in this economy, I want the full package. Maybe they are best for takeout until they fully get everything in motion. We got some traditional food. The Tikka Masala was a tad salty. There was a ton of sauce for the amount of actual meat. Had to ask for another serving of rice to accommodate it. Their Indian fusion items do sound intriguing to try. I saw a photo of a pizza that looked delicious. My first time here and I am impressed already. The vibes in here are great! It is very clean and beautiful and I love the music. The menu is nice and concise and we knew exactly what we wanted coming in. We ordered 4 dishes in total. The naan bruschetta was amazing. A thin crispy naan with well seasoned tomatoes and cilantro, with a garlic punch. It was amazing, I could probably just eat an entire plate of that. The Samosas were a little less impressive, but the crispy pastry was amazing, which meant the filling lacked a little flavor in our opinion. Most likely will not order again. My Naan Tacos were AMAZING. I got it with the chicken and the way the well cooked naan acted like a little shell for all the goodness inside made it too notch. The pickled onions were amazing, chicken was juicy and flavorful, cabbage gave it that crunch, and cilantro topped it off so well. My fiancee got the butter chicken and she loved it! It was a mix of white meat and dark meat in a curry that got just a little spicier with each bite and the rice was perfect with an herb taste. Overall we are fans!! We live right down the block and will be back to try the whole menu. They have a great happy hour, $7 dollars for various drinks and appetizers. So definitely stop in! Indya is a new restaurant featuring a diverse menu of Indian flavors including curry, noodles, burgers, naan tacos, and more. There were so many vegan options for me! The Naan Bruschetta absolutely blew me away. Not going to lie, at first I wasn't sure how naan would taste topped with tomatoes, garlic, and spice, but let me tell you.. absolutely amazing! In fact, the flavors were so complimentary that I was almost ready to order a second one! Since I typically order curry, I decided to try something new for a change and ordered the veggie wok tossed noodles. It did not disappoint - beyond flavorful and such a large portion! The restaurant is spacious with plenty of seating and even an upstairs bar area for drinks and small bites. Similar to its sister restaurant, Spice Lounge, Indya has some of the best happy hour deals around with $7 drinks and appetizers on weekdays from four to six. This restaurant is fairly new, and I stumbled upon it on Instagram, so I knew I had to check it out. I visited on a Thursday evening around 7 pm. Their appetizer menu looked amazing, but I went with the pani puri -- and honestly, I was pleasantly surprised by how good it was compared to other places in San Diego. It wasn't spicy but was packed with flavor; I'd definitely recommend ordering it. For my main dish, I chose the paneer naan taco, which was also delicious. My friend got the chicken naan taco and really enjoyed his as well. We paired our meal with Taj Mahal beers. We tried this spot for my sister birthday, which had only been open for about two months. We arrived around 4:30 PM, it was quiet at first, but it started filling up soon after. The atmosphere is cozy, especially outdoor. It seems they're still working on the interior, and there's potential for a second-floor event space and karaoke in the future. The food was fresh and delicious , we loved every dish we ordered. The owner was very friendly and even helped us celebrate my sister's birthday. It's a great place for a date night or casual outing. Service was friendly but very slow, it wasn't a busy night but maybe they were understaffed? The interior is quite cute and they even have a covered patio outside but not many heaters, but it looked charming. The food however was alright. I ordered the chicken Tikka Quesadilla, which was a fun choice but it really lacked the Indian flavors and spice...overall it just tasted a bit too salty. Indya opened at the end of last month in the two-story structure that was the longtime home of a burger bar in the Clairemont neighborhood. There was several parking spaces reserved for this Asian Indian eatery, however I didn't like how you could only approach the business by coming northbound on Clairemont Dr. From any other direction, you had to make an extra turn(s) to reach the lot that was shared with the next door sushi restaurant. While the interior decor was minimal, the exterior of the building was decorated with cultural art. A fountain with an elephant statue was placed in the courtyard adjacent to the entrance. The service counter was to the left when you walked in. Straight ahead was a staircase to the upper level and to the right was the dining room. I would say the seating capacity on the ground floor was close to 50. The menu was a fusion of various cuisines and not straight Indian food. For example, there were Naan Tacos and Indya Burgers as categories on the first page along with Appetizers. The second page listed the Curry, Classics, Tandoori, and Wok Tossed Noodles. The last page displayed the beverages and upcoming Breakfast offerings which would be served between 8 am and 1 pm daily. It's rare to see an Indian restaurant serve noodles so I selected the version with shrimp. Stir-fried yakisoba noodles were mixed with onion, bell pepper, broccoli, and carrots. Seven pieces of shrimp were added to the dish. Two cups of sauce were provided on the side for dipping, chutney and masala. I used a little bit of each one, but the kitchen did a good job of making this item with sufficient flavors on its own. The TASTIEST Indian food in San Diego. We tried a lot of Indian restaurants but this one is by far the best. We had the samosas (not pictured), chicken Tikka masala, and the chicken quesadilla. The chicken literally melted in my mouth, and the flavors were incredible. The food did not feel heavy at all. Great service and ambiance. Whether you live close by or far, it is definitely worth the drive. They also have a location on the second floor for events. The owner yelled at us after my wife asked about the food she got served. She clarified with the owner what kind of meat it was made of, but when no meat arrived with her food, she asked. After being called bad and crazy people, yelling and swearing, we opted to leave, taking our food with us since we're made to pay. It needs something splashy because it just isn't as inviting as the outside. So the interior ambiance was a big let down. Something about the food combo didn't grab us. It may not be fusion enough, possibly. Personally, we were not impressed. A lot of things seemed to be missing. The food was not memorable, the ambiance was too bland. Ever since the last restaurant that was here long term for many years closed, I was looking forward to what was next. Since I saw the article for Indya on one of the local food news sites (SanDiegoVille, What Now San Diego, Eater SD, etc.) last summer I was really looking forward to a new place opening here, especially a place with a good happy hour! I was looking forward to it opening in August, but it got delayed and finally I was able to come check it out now. In general I love Indian Food and when there were a few Indian Gastropub concepts open in San Diego they didn't feel good enough to me to want to go back, but with this being here and having tried the Masala Curry Wings among other things, I like the thickness and flavor of it and look forward to trying other items the next time I come! It feels like there's only a few people working at the moment but everyone who helped us has been friendly and hospitable! We truly love Indya and want this restaurant to thrive--it's close to our home, the food is excellent, and it has so much potential to be a long-term neighborhood favorite. The food is consistently flavorful, plentiful, and thoughtfully prepared. We really appreciate that the kitchen is willing to accommodate small dietary modifications when possible. Everything arrives hot, which we don't take for granted (lukewarm food is a dealbreaker for us), and the flavors are rich, balanced, and satisfying every time. Visually, the exterior is absolutely stunning. The painting and décor outside are beautiful and welcoming--it really stands out. Inside, the restaurant could feel just as warm and inviting with a bit more on the walls, as the stark white interior currently feels a little bare compared to how lovely the outside looks. Our main concern--and one we share because we genuinely want Indya to succeed--is the service. It's been inconsistent and often very slow. On multiple visits, it's taken 10-15 minutes just to receive menus or water, and 40 minutes or more for food after ordering, usually without check-ins or offers of naan or refills. There have been times we would have happily ordered another round of drinks, but no one came by or made eye contact. Staff often seem focused elsewhere and don't scan the room to see if guests need anything, even when they're at nearby tables. On a few occasions, we've had to get up ourselves to ask for assistance. This is especially noticeable given that the restaurant next door is consistently packed, with good food and excellent service. Indya has superior food, and with stronger service training and attentiveness, it could easily match--or exceed--that level of success. A few small changes could make a big difference: warmer interior décor, more proactive and attentive service, and perhaps adding a non-alcoholic beer option for those who want to enjoy without alcohol. We're leaving this as a five-star review because the food truly deserves it--and because we believe in this place. We hope the ownership sees this as encouragement from loyal neighbors who want to keep coming back and see Indya flourish for years to come. read more

We had an absolutely delightful time enjoying Indya's Thursday night happy hour & karaoke - a spectacular combo for our group of 10 neighborhood mamas that were out for a relaxed evening together! The warm hospitality provided by Lindsey & Ji was generous and thoughtful as they ensured our fav tunes played throughout the night and that our cups were always full! Everyone seemed to really enjoy their food - I would absolutely return again for my order of Chicken Tikka Pizza and house made ginger lemonade! Indya restaurant recently opened and as a big fan of indian cuisine, i can confidently say this spot is a must try. the food is incredibly delicious, the welcome is warm and genuine and you can tell they truly care about giving their customers a great experience. the outdoor seating is cozy, with a fireplace and fountains, they even offer billiards and other games for added fun. the owner has plenty of exiting plans for the restaurant with his main goal is that his customers are enjoying great food in a lively, enjoyable atmosphere. read more

The food here is fantastic! I had the shrimp wok noodles (don't remember the exact name) and they were wonderful. Good size portions too - definitely enough leftovers for lunch the next day. We made it there in time for happy hour and drinks were very well priced considering San Diego pricing. Appetizers and naan were great too, although I may not get the Pani puri again. The service left something to be desired - they were VERY nice but just seemed very scattered and unorganized. I also agree that the ambience inside was a bit dull - needs some color and pictures or something. All that being said, I will be going back - I think they just need to tweak some things. read more

Chai Rave review This past Saturday at INDYA was an absolute disaster. Yes, the DJ was amazing and the belly dancer was great, but everything else was so poorly executed that it ruined the entire thing. There were only two bartenders, and they were hustling as hard as humanly possible. They were the ONLY reason anything moved at all. Meanwhile, several other employees just stood behind them doing nothing--arms crossed, hands in pockets, watching nearly 200 people fight to order a drink. No help, no urgency, no awareness. We spent two hours trying to get a drink. At one point, I waved over a guy in a jean jacket and jeans, asking if he could help the overwhelmed bartenders. He pretended to help--he even took our drink order--and then went right back to standing around filming and taking pictures. It was unbelievable. On top of that, there were no tables or surfaces anywhere. It was my best friend's birthday, and people brought her gifts... which we literally had to pile on the floor in a corner because there was nowhere else to put them. Zero planning. Zero consideration. Zero thought put into this event. They were not prepared for this crowd at all. It felt like a blatant cash grab: pack the place with people, take everyone's money at the door, and then leave two bartenders to fend for their lives. Great entertainment doesn't excuse the complete lack of organization, service, and basic hospitality. I would not attend another event here unless they seriously overhaul their staffing, planning, and management. read more

Based on reviews, we decided to check this spot. There was only 1 person (not sure if he was the owner or manager) working. We ordered aloo tikki..from appetizers section. I wouldn't rate it more than 2/10 (didn't take fresh and had no flavor). Ordered 2 glasses of red wine. Wine tasted bad. We requested the person working to take it back and switch it for white wine which was at best barely drinkable. For Main..we ordered Lentils & a chicken curry dish. He forgot to enter Lentil dish completely. And the chicken curry dish was so hot (spicy), we literally burnt our tongue. At the time of order, we were never informed that dish was a spice level 10, & person taking our order also didn't ask us if we wanted the dish spicy (or not). Finally when the lentil dish came out, it was watery-soup. Did not taste like how an Indian lentil dish should. Ahh, lastly, we were never served water. We had to fetch water on our own from the kitchen while our mouth was on fire from the chicken dish. Service was poor & unprofessional. Food was not good. There are only a few places in San Diego that I know of where they serve lamb. Last night I tried the naan lamb tacos at Indya and they were excellent! Baked (not fried) taco shells filled with chunks of lamb. Their spicy Lamb Vindaloo is also delicious. For starters, such a cute restaurant inside. They put a lot of effort into curating the space and making it well decorated and inviting. I ordered food to-go, so I didn't sit inside to eat, but I walked around a bit and really enjoyed the atmosphere. The food was GREAT! If you haven't checked this spot out, you must! The food is insanely good. And fresh. You can tell the veggies are very fresh. The meat is so tender. The bruschetta naan is so out of this world! I've been here about six times and some places can be hit or miss, but the food is hands down always a hit! Consistently amazing. The owner Gubi and his wife are so sweet and you can tell Gubi puts all of his passion for food into this place. We got to talking about the neighborhood and he really wants to make sure that the locals feel welcomed and enjoy the food.And I promise you will enjoy the food. It's still a fairly new spot so they are still working on some of the atmosphere as far as the upstairs bar goes, but the food will keep you coming back as well as the service. I had the pleasure of meeting Sam tonight and he was so nice. Gubi really has a vision for his restaurant and I can't wait to see it all come to fruition. Give it a try and you will not be disappointed. Parking might be a bit tricky at times but if you have to park across the street and walk over I promise you won't regret it.
