We were in the city visiting, found ourselves near Diamond Heights around dinner time, found this place Ingredients on Yelp. High ratings, few reviews, but we were adventurous and decided to try it, glad we did. Ingredients is on a corner, looked relatively new from the outside LED "Open" sign prominent in the window. Once we walked in, however, we entered a different world from what we were expecting. Luxurious mustard seats, lots of tables for four, seating with high gray bench banquettes, reminding me of a 70s tune ("Diamonds in the back..."); retro vibe elegantly done with modern lighting and sconces. Not cheesy by any stretch, but in a neighborhood place you could wear sweats or a suit to eat at. Our waiter was Jackie, an enthusiastic young man who seemed like he wasn't just there to wait on tables. Throughout the evening he was easy to chat with while being knowledgeable about his food he served without being condescending. He made someone unfamiliar with the menu feel new-to-us dishes weren't going to be an experiment. We ordered the beet salad, the 8 ounce hamburger with fries, the mushroom risotto, and on Jackie's recommendation the Nepal BBQ ribs. In the meantime they served us house made brioche buns-warm, soft, delicate and chewy, flaky; reminded me of Texas Roadhouse buns, but far better. Served with a little olive oil and balsamic in a separated dish, you could eat them plain and enjoy the craftsmanship of baked excellence. We wanted more but in retrospect we would've been filled up with brioche and not enjoyed the meal. Tough choice. The roasted beet salad, served with shaved fennel, a beet balsamic jus, and an apple-citrus slaw that was fresh, sweet with hints of citrus offset by the fennel so it wasn't cloyingly sweet. The textures were enjoyable-the softness of the beets with the crunch of the fennel slaw, we anxiously cleaned the plate! Next came the risotto and the burger. What was enjoyable was the mushroom risotto-a refreshing presentation of toothsome Arborio, creamy yet firm, interplaying with a variety of mushrooms that immediately became one of the better risotto we've had, texturally excellent, not one note like most risotto, it came out hot but not searing; deft hands created a concoction that kept us going back for more. The burger was simple, cooked medium, but one of the best we've had in a very long time. We should qualify the burger as a cheeseburger as we were given a choice- bleu cheese or cheddar, we chose the bleu cheese and it was a good choice, just the right amount complimenting the veggies that came with burger. Oh, the fries-skinny, perfectly fried they stayed equally crunchy from first to last, served in a mini fry basket that was cute but it also showed they meant business, these fries were better than that Irish fast food place, and aren't they the iconic standard of French fries? IMO Ingredients is now the new standard. They were served with house made ketchup, excellent with or without. The ribs came last originally accompanied by a Mac and cheese but since we ordered risotto they served the ribs separately with a slaw. The ribs were fall-off-the-bone, but a little more savory than sweet , served with just enough sauce to accompany the ribs without being messy, easy enough to eat using knife and fork, the kicker was a hint of five spice, subtle enough if it's in your background, but not an annoyance if it's not. Flavorful, hearty, filling, delicious, We ended our meal with a homemade "apple pie," a creation made of thinly sliced apples, perhaps poached, with cinnamon, cardamom, allspice, along with fresh fruit, and a yummy scoop of "creamy"mango sorbet. Lots of surprising good vibes-no crust, all apple, not heavy; the mix of spices played well with each other; mango sorbet wasn't icy like sorbets tend to be, the fresh fruits added a touch of freshness to the dish that could have been sweet-centric, but not. A delicate yet satisfying end to a delicious meal. We met the chef, Sok, at the end of our meal, who had his culinary training n Kathmandu and expanded his repertoire in his world travels. He definitely knows how to elevate a good meal, and his Nepal and French influences add an understated flair to what he cooks. Sok takes tremendous pride in what he presents to the diner, evidenced by who he hires, and how each dish is presented. Dining in Ingredients is gratifying, from the dining room to the staff to the dishes themselves. More people should give Ingredients a try, a gem of a neighborhood find, a rarity in SF! My wife, 2-year old, and I had an amazing dining experience at Ingredients. It was very easy to get a reservation, and they seated us specifically so that our child could get a great view out the window. The wait staff was fantastic--friendly, kind, attentive, and speedy, and they went above and beyond several times throughout the meal (making accommodations for our son, as well as even gifting us a free dessert wine for no apparent reason, which I won't complain about!). We ordered the momos, Brussels sprout salad, carne asada, and rack of lamb (as well as a spaghetti with a side of wild mushrooms for our son). Every dish was spectacular and cooked well, delivered with good pacing, and had really lovely plating. For dessert, we enjoyed their apple pie with gelato. Highly recommend! While I'm not a food critic for the San Francisco Chronicle, if I was, I'd give Ingredients, a five star review! The restaurant has a lovely dining room that feels both elegant and yet casual. Kamarom, who took care of us, might be one of the owners and has a very warm and welcoming personality. Kamarom described the chef's specialties and we opted for the short ribs that were delicious! Everything from the warm homemade rills served with olive oil and balsamic vinegar to the chicken momos and tasty salads were flavorful and unique. We stumbled upon Ingredients walking up Church Street toward 24th to get dinner. A regular told us, "food is delicious" enough said. We were immediately welcomed and shown a table. This is an intimate restaurant mostly for tables of 2 and 4, however they can accommodate larger groups in the back by combining tables. We had the Delight of East Asia, Parmesan Chicken Salad, and Sea Bass special. All had an asian fusion twist and each equally delicious. I was in the area on a Friday afternoon and told my partner to meet me nearby. He made a reservation at Ingredients because it was highly-rated on Yelp. We took Muni Metro and walked--very convenient! The exterior is nondescript. Service was extremely good and attentive and personable. My husband saw this place advertised on the internet, we decided to try it so we made reservations & went there this evening. Parking is a challenge in Noe Valley so it took us a few minutes to find a spot on the street approx a block away. We were warmly greeted on arrival at the restaurant by Mariana - the charming hostess, & led to our table at the far end of the restaurant. The space is not too big so the tables are strategically arranged, making it a little narrow squeeze navigating between tables when people are seated. The decor is lovely & the place has a very pleasant ambiance. Our server Marley - a friendly young man who was very accommodating of all our requests. We were presented with complimentary warm delicious bread rolls & butter. We ordered the momos, which we had read all about on the Yelp reviews, & they certainly didn't disappoint. The sauce that accompanied the momos was so delectable, I had to request for another serving of bread to sop it all up! We also ordered the charred brussel sprouts & toasted grape salad and the gems of California beets salad - both were beautifully presented & combined a delicious blend of flavors. The food was amazing, the service attentive! We didn't want to have too big of a meal since we were heading to a show at the Herbst Theatre after dinner so we didn't order entrees or desserts. This is my second time dining at Ingredients. My boyfriend's friend, Marley, and his team have made both experiences perfect. As we celebrated our anniversary at dinner, we spoiled ourselves with the Chicken Momo Appetizer, the New York Steak, Carne Asada with Mashed potatoes, and the Angus Burger. Everything was delicious! My favorite dish is definitely the momo. the momo itself is so flavorful, but the cherry on top is the sauce that its paired with. We practically lick the plate clean. This is a real find from my Yelp recommendations. My friend and I had our TGIF dinner here and the meal was excellent. We shared the chicken momo, delight of the East Asia (Tuna with Seaweed), Fuyu Persimmon Carpaccio and Burrata salad, Carne Asada and Apple Gratin. Every dish was excellent and is what happens when fusion is done right. Our favorite was the chicken momo and it's a must order. We ordered just the right amount of food. Came by for dinner the other night and it was a surprisingly decent and tasty dinner. Made a reservation and our table was ready upon arrival. The restaurant was maybe 10% full on a Sunday evening during the peak dinner hour. Parking was available on the street a few blocks away. Staff throughout the evening were cordial, providing recommendations, and checking up with us throughout the evening. Started off with the complimentary dinner rolls with butter and it was ok. The bread were baked to a golden brown and the butter was quite hard... Started off with the gambas and they were gigantic. This appetizer consisted of 4 gigantic prawns cooked to perfection over a thick crostini and some avocado mousse. The momos were also excellent. Super flavorful, a perfectly delicate skin with some nice soup on the inside. This was also served over a bed of tasty sauce. The carne asada entree was also excellent. The hanger steak was requested and came out to a perfect medium rare. The steak was perfectly seasoned and had a phenomenal crust. The complementary vegetables were perfectly cooked too. The New Zealand king salmon was decent. The salmon was cooked to a medium towards a medium well and also had a perfect crispy skin. I loved the charred vegetables along with the mashed potatoes that came with the entree. Had a group dinner here and was pleasantly surprised by how much we enjoyed this spot. We were able to make reservations same day for a Friday and we were glad we did because the restaurant got packed by the middle of our dinner. Service was impeccable and food was delectable. Highlights King salmon (5/5)- the salmon was perfectly flaky and tender with the perfectly crispy. The puree sauce was rich and paired perfectly with the salmon. Love the crunch on the cauliflower which was a nice change in texture. I highly recommend this as an entree. Chicken momo (5/5)- I love how thin the skin was and the sauce perfectly coated the dumplings without feeling too heavy. Shrimp Gambas (4.7/5)- beautifully presented and flavorful. Fiancee enjoyed the New York strip and said it was perfectly cooked and seasoned. The chef was so sweet and brought out a mango sorbet and a gelato. You can tell they make their desserts fresh. I got a table alone and they took really good care of me. I ordered two of the specials that day, a short rib for the main, and a tuna roll for the appetizer. The short rib was falling off the bone and melt in your mouth tender. It was so good. I wish I took a picture before I demolished it. The sushi was amazing- perfect cut, flavor and spice. I was shocked at the quality for it not being a sushi place. The ambiance is cute and warm. Has a classic American fine dining feel with a bit of modernity. It's elegant without being posh or elaborate which makes it feel accessible. I saw couples on dates, families with children, and friends meeting up. I think anyone can enjoy their time here. Overall this is such a good restaurant! The food was fantastic, the vibe instead was cozy and intimate, and the staff was really helpful with any questions you had. We got the octopus appetizer, the burrata salad (not pictured), the carne asada and the vegan risotto which all were very delicious. My only downside to the night was that the risotto was a little soupy and didn't have an insane amount of flavor but that could be the fact that it didn't have the dairy fat to bring it together. However, I loved that they even had this as an option among other vegan dishes (not vegan but have allergies). Also loved that the menu was very good about identifying allergens. Tasty food and good service in a nice setting. The menu is mostly slightly fancy American cuisine. All of the dishes I've seen are well put together and tasty, and delivered reasonably efficiently. Service to my group of 8 was good but the serving team was stretched that night, so it wasn't always fast. I keep thinking about the bread rolls so I felt compelled to come out of Yelp review writing hibernation. I was super curious about this place since you can't see in from the street when driving by and we decided to give it a whirl. It's beautiful, warm, colorful, and pristine inside. My friend and I ordered the short rib and halibut specials and shared. Both dishes were delightful and executed to perfection. Overall, It felt like elevated comfort food. The service was exceptional and our server was attentive and very patient when we got distracted catching up instead of deciding on our order. The server told us they'll be starting a brunch service in the near future and I will definitely be keeping my eye out for it. They also have a NA sparkling wine on their menu that I'll be back for! Although our group shared everything, any entree could easily have been a full meal for one person. I was bummed to see Bistro Ember go but I'm elated that Ingredients has taken over. This family run restaurant works very well together. You feel the warmth of their service once you enter their home (restaurant). My family were well taken care of the moment we sat down and we were treated with complimentary desserts once we left. The food was amazing. We had the dumplings (divine) and my wife had the octopus (really good but lacked a little salt). For our mains my two kids had home made chicken tenders and spaghetti (my kids ate it all) and my wife had the roasted chicken plate with a potato substitute to meet her dietary restrictions (she's gluten intolerant and dairy free). I had the skirt steak that was cooked to perfection (needed a little salt). Dessert was fantastic. The ingredients were fresh. We ate everything in our plates without feeling overly stuffed.
