Nopa was one of those dinners that felt thoughtful from start to finish--strong execution, great service, and a few dishes that really stood out. Came with a few friends later in the evening on Sunday as a walk-in and was seated within about 30 minutes. We started with the duck egg shakshuka, which was excellent. Rich without feeling heavy, with great texture throughout. The bread was perfect for scooping everything up, and our server brought us more after we finished the first round--a small but appreciated touch. The Yaya's fried chicken had great flavor, but at $33, it felt a little underwhelming for what you get. Well-seasoned and enjoyable, just not as memorable as the rest of the meal. The pork chop was the standout and easily one of the best I've had recently. Corn was in season, and the pairing worked beautifully. The pork was cooked perfectly and consistently flavorful throughout. The meal reminded me a bit of Liholiho, so I naturally compared the two. Had a great time dining here on a weekday for a team dinner around 7 pm! It's a corner spot that's well known in SF that can be packed and busy. They have two floors; the first floor is where the bar is! We were brought up to the second floor for our table of 7 pm. We were sat next to the kitchen, so we all complained by how hot it was getting over the course of the night. The service was quick, easy, and professional. We got several appetizers from salads, falafels, goat cheese and bread, and pizza. I personally got their pork chop! It was delicious, tender and had a great BBQ sauce on the side. I've had Nopa on my list of SF restaurants to try for a while now and was excited to come for a random Monday dinner. We ordered family style between 4 people and share the duck rillette, stracciatella with apricots and pecans, mushroom flatbread, fried chicken, and roasted cauliflower. The highlight of the night were the duck rillette, served with crusty thick sourdough bread, a delicious kumquat marmalade and fresh mulberries. It's mulberry season right now and I had just gone mulberry picking the past weekend so it was fun to see them on the plate. I also enjoyed the fried chicken with chili honey which was great for sharing and a large portion! I didn't get much Moroccan spices in the chicken but it was battered and fried well. The mushroom flatbread did fall flat for us as it was pretty dry and needed something else to give it more flavor. I also got the seven sisters cocktail with tequila, vermouth and green chartreuse which was great and a good choice if you want something more spirit-forward. 5/31/26 update: they have a duck prosciutto on the menu right now that's one of my fav dishes. The salty fat duck prosciutto pairs perfectly with the blackberry vinaigrette on a well oiled toast. YUM!! -- Nopa is perfect. Anyone who says otherwise? A liar! (Okay, maybe not, but seriously, this place is that good.) If you can't snag a reservation, don't worry. Try your luck at the bar or the communal table. The vibe is effortlessly charming, making it perfect for date night or even just treating yourself. I've never had a single bad dish here. Quite the opposite...so many dishes have completely floored me. The cheeseburger? Always amazing. The pork chop? Pure magic. I almost cried eating the tagliatelle. And the smoked trout latkes? Made a reservation through Open Table and was really grateful that even though we had to add one more to our reservation a bit late, they were able to accommodate us. The vibes were lively, but tame, and is a great spot for a date or a meet up with a group of friends. On the menu - you'll want to try the beans. Apparently while the menu changes daily based on what is freshly purchased and available (so cool!!!), the beans have remained a staple! Definitely try! Nopa needs no introduction at this point and fully lives up to its reputation as a true San Francisco institution. The room is always bustling with a great energy, and I really appreciate that they deliberately hold some spots, whether at the bar or at the communal table, for walk ins so it still feels accessible even without a reservation. Staff are consistently super friendly, and their food and beverage menu is pound for pound one of the best in the city. Sharing is absolutely the way to do Nopa. Splitting plates with a group lets you build that perfect bite from a little bit of everything, and there are several dishes I consider must orders. The Bread and Butter is a staple, especially with Josey Baker bread (IYKYK). The duck liver mousse is another favorite, always incredibly creamy and rich, with accoutrements that change seasonally but always pair beautifully with their charred, crusty bread and whatever compote is in season (was huckleberry on my most recent visit!). Do not sleep on the grilled broccoli either. It sounds deceptively simple, but the combination of lemon, anchovy, and breadcrumbs makes it ridiculously addicting and one of those plates you find yourself going back to over and over in between bites. And of course, their much acclaimed cheeseburger more than deserves the hype, standing easily among the very best burgers in the city with its perfect balance of a hefty but juicy patty, melty cheese (Gruyere FTW!), a beautifully toasted bun and a full spread of toppings like their pickled onions as well as their horseradish sauce that ties everything together. For larger plates, it depends a bit on group size and how hungry everyone is, but my go-to's include the pork chop and Yaya's Fried Chicken. The pork chop is hearty and cooked perfectly so it is still super juicy, with deeply flavorful braised greens and a fruit mostarda-like accompaniment that really makes the whole dish sing. Yaya's Fried Chicken is brined and fried to perfection, with a shatteringly crisp crust, super moist meat, and Moroccan spices in the batter that really amp up the flavors overall. All in all, Nopa is one of the absolute best the city has to offer and a must visit for both tourists and locals alike. It was nice to come here to catch up with friends. The food was pretty good, some dishes better than others. The staff is nice. They have a coat/ bag check. The space is airy and inviting. The warm olives were very good. They melted in my mouth and the bread was delicious. The steak was too chewy and spicy for me. The lettuces salad was also very good, crunchy lettuce and I liked the dressing. My favorite dessert was the chocolate malt ice cream, so unique and actually tastes malted! We tried a handful of items, and they were all spectacular but the only twist is the menu changes everyday so it will keep you wanting more. Be sure to ask your server for some advice because they know what's best. The portions are quite large, try to leave room for dessert as the pastry chef is showing off all her skills. What an amazing experience for my birthday. My friend made dinner reservations for us here, and it ended up being an absolute delight from start to finish. I enjoyed every second and every bite. The ambiance strikes the perfect balance of warm, fun, and luxurious all at once. A wine concierge came to our table to help us indecisive folks choose a bottle, and we ended up trying something none of us had ever had before--orange wine. From there, we ordered the bread and butter and the lettuces. Since there were three of us, they kindly adjusted the bread order so everyone got their own portion. For our mains, we each ordered something different so we could share, and wow... everything was incredible. Their menu rotates daily and is printed fresh, plus they offer additional off menu specials. That night's special was a roasted half chicken--perfectly seasoned and so flavorful. We also ordered the pork chop and the steak. The portions were generous, and every bite was worth savoring. The steak was beautifully tender and savory, and the pork chop was the thickest I've ever seen, cooked to absolute perfection. Nothing disappointed. For dessert, we shared the crème brûlée topped with guava jellies and fresh fruit--a fantastic finish. They even surprised me with a birthday candle on a scoop of ice cream, so I got to make a birthday wish. It was such a thoughtful touch. What an unforgettable dinner. Our group of 3 showed up for our reservation at 5:45pm on a Saturday, and were promptly seated. The space is pretty dimly lit and intimate, and most of the seating seemed pretty comfortable and spacious, though our table was located in a a corner that was a little more cramped. Service was friendly and checked in frequently to see if we needed anything new and pour us water. We got the dungeness crab, pork belly, brocolli, and flatbread to share - everything was good but not too special or unique, and strangely the presentation seemed to be aiming for upscale but came out looking more haphazard, and the crab did have some tiny bits of shell mixed inside. For the price, the serving sizes seemed smaller than you would expect. The Maize Runner cocktail I got however, was really tasty (and also strong), but the combination of the pear, corn and sesame was really unique and fun. Overall, Nopa has a nice ambiance, and on paper, really interesting dishes - though the execution seemed to miss the mark for us. I typically prefer sharing multiple small dishes over getting a large dish each, but looking at the other reviews, it seems maybe the large dishes might be more promising. My first time here must've been close to a decade ago and somehow they've maintained great service and delicious food over all this time. But this is an odd review because unfortunately at some point I lost my engagement ring here. You would think that wouldn't inspire a glowing review but their staff immediately jumped in to help look, Jamie took detailed notes when I dropped by in person to check and one of their owners Holly personally called to extend her sympathies plus check footage for any clues. They went above and beyond for something that isn't even their responsibility. I will continue going here for years to come. We were able to snag high chairs at the Chefs counter and highly recommend this if you can! It gives you line of sight to the cooking and you are also next to the Head Chef running orders, which was great entertainment. Drinks are always solid and reasonably priced for the city. Went with the Whiskey Smash that had nice herbal flavors, but still refreshing. Portions are generous. We had 3 "small plates" and 1 main and this was plenty of food for 2 people. Confit duck rillette: Very rich and glad it came with huckleberry compote and figs to bring some freshness. Smoked trout: The chef overheard us talking about this dish and gave it to us on the house since the kitchen accidentally made an extra, which was so generous and made the dish even tastier. The pickled flavors were mild and overall a lighter dish that still had flavor profiles of Scandanavia. Flatbread: Veggie forward with lots of yummy flavors. Group was split on the flatbread itself. I wished it was a little firmer in order to hold all the toppings, but P2 enjoyed the chewiness of the dough. Tagliatelle: The pasta texture was perfection! Nopa is open for dinner 7 days a week with dining both indoors and outdoors. They do have a few seats facing the kitchen counter, a bar, along with a communal table along with a mezzanine. Made a reservation via OpenTable and my table was ready upon arrival. Parking can be tricky with street parking around the restaurant only. Plan on arriving ahead of time and walk several blocks to find a spot for the car. Nopa's small plates are perfect for sharing. They constantly rotate and change with a few favorites showing up on the menu frequently. Nopa's small plates are always extremely fresh, in line with their minimally-processed farm to fork mentality. Nopa's pork chop is the highlight. It's gigantic, super thick, and bone-in. The sides are constantly changing, and always fantastic. The pork chop is always flavorful and extremely juicy. Always save room for dessert. If you are looking for lively, loud Joints that vibe like "the scene is here" - well, that is what it was on an early Sunday evening. Friday evening dinner. Sat upstairs and it was hot and sticky with this heatwave. Server was nice enough. Not much interaction in terms of service besides are you ready and can I take your order. Had to ask a couple times for the same request. Back server was very good. Cocktails here are good. But, drinks take forever. Fifteen plus minutes for a few cocktails was a bit long. Second round took even longer. In the middle of the wait for cocktails we ordered one glass of wine which came fast but sadly still waiting for the cocktails. Food was very good. No timing issues. Baked giant beans and the fried rockfish was hot and delicious. Fried chicken was very very hot and very flavorful with a wonderful rosemary essence. Cheeseburger was good with fries. Tagliatelle with bolognese was also tasty and flavorful. More bolognese than noodles really. It had been several years since returning to NOPA. I probably dinned here a few dozen times before covid and it was good back then and good now. I'd say NOPA is elevated comfort food. Nothing is too boujee or complex. My amazing friend Mary N. treated me to this savory bustling sensation after our awesome tour of the #SF Designer Showcase. My first time here, Mary, the foodie connoisseur, ordered her favorite go to dishes to share with me. Let's go ahead and say ultimate comfort food experience! Wood baked beans arrived first, very Italian flair and flavor, I've known them as butter beans, but never like this! Somehow the very petite croutons stayed crunchy throughout enjoying. The Tagliatelle arrived and I was ready to dive in. The house made egg noodles coated in the 9 hour bolognese! Magnifico! Gave me a vodka sauce vibe, so creamy and flavorful! My friends and I were recommended to check out this restaurant for dinner. Overall, I had a good experience. Food was solid and service was friendly. We were sat outdoor and it felt less crowded than inside. We enjoyed the crudo and the baked beans dishes. Solid pasta and tasty fries. However, I was underwhelmed by the fried chicken tenders . A very good grass-fed, fresh ground burger with hearty hot fries. Plus, I added house smoked bacon with just the right amount of meat and perfect just-ripe avocado. Wish I could have tried the earlier version that folks say was iconic. Service was quick and appreciated. read more
