Dang! I forgot to take a picture. I really wanted some ceviche and made the brilliant choice to get it at the Inka Grill. Their ceviche rocked my world! I could not help myself and started in on it before I thought about taking a picture and I should have because when you think of Peruvian ceviche - this is what it should look like. I asked for it extra spicy and they delivered. Sometimes you get these giant chunks of yam that takes up a lot of space in the dish - just a bit too much of a good thing. The Inka Grill had the perfect sized yam slice that sat on a mound of seafood and onions, roasted corn, white corn, etc. with everything bathed in spicy lime juice. There was also this excellent spicey green sauce in a squirt bottle that was perfect for spicing up the yam. The service was great and the setting was cozy - a very pleasant setting to enjoy some excellent Peruvian food. I counted myself quite fortunate to be in a hotel within walking distance. Strike two for ordering pick up from Inka Grill in Lake Forest. This is the second time the menu description doesn't match what was served. I didn't give a negative review previously because I assumed it was a fluke. Nope... just poor quality control. I ordered Huancaina and received something in a different sauce that has chicken in it. Definitely not what was expected. I also ordered the Chupe chicken that was supposed to have chunks of potato, but there was no potato and a bowl full of rice. Again, not what was expected or promised per the menu. We also ordered 2 servings of basil spaghetti with beef. The beef was a nice serving, but the noodles were relatively dry. I paid for 2 extra orders of bread, but when my daughter went to pick up the order, they gave her a hard time about the bread. Over $80 and very disappointed. I will be opting for Inka Mama's next time instead. They are a little more expensive, but at least you get what you expect. Sad to see a place that I used to love so much turn into somewhere I will not frequent again. read more

The flavor of the food is Ok. While the portions were disappointing , but this is an issue of every single Peruvian restaurant in OC. My plate price was almost $18 and I was expecting a decent portions of chicken (at least 3 or 4 ounces) and the plate came with just ONE piece of yucca! Too price for the portions! Service was good. I sat in a booth here for lunch and looked over their extensive menu. All your Peruvian favorites are here plus more. A complementary basket of soft, fresh rolls with the obligatory aji sauce is brought to your table as you order. I ordered lomo saltado and an Inka Kola. The interior of this place feels dated but is nicely decorated with paintings of various Peruvian landscapes, portraits, and still lifes. There are plenty of native pottery pieces on display too. My meal came out very quickly. It was good but done a bit differently than I've seen at other Peruvian restaurants. Every ingredient was cut into bite-sized portions. The beef was sliced into slender pieces, the tomato and onion in small chunks, and small slices of scallions were added which are a unique (but tasty) addition. I enjoyed it but a couple pieces of beef were chewy. I did appreciate that they didn't overdo the amount of potato or onion as often happens elsewhere; everything seemed to be well proportioned. As others mentioned, it is solid Peruvian food but the prices are puzzlingly high. At the time of this writing a lunch plate of lomo saltado is about $17, a can of Inca Kola almost $4, and there is an additional fee for using a credit card rather than paying cash. I have to deduce that either the landlord is gouging them or maybe this is just what inflation looks like. read more

The food is fantastic quality and the server is amazing. Not sure of his name but he's always very attentive and makes great small talk. This is one of my favorite restaurants ever. We've been coming to this place for years always getting our favorite the Seafood paella which is so tasty and the fish is very fresh. We love putting green Peruvian sauce on it. We also buy the Peruvian green sauce to go. They sell it in a bottle. We use it at home to put on different meats and vegetables dishes. Great to see them back in Business after they were closed a short while. They added new outdoor seating on the patio, which makes it very comfortable for us and our dog. read more

I've been an Inka Grill customer from back in the Costa Mesa location. My wife and I make special trips from Riverside County (Moreno Valley) all the way to Lake Forest because it's the best tasting Peruvian food of the rest we've tried. My go-to plate is the Chaufa de Pollo. A big bowl of fried rice is all you need to stay full for the rest of your day. Don't forget to squeeze on some gren sauce, but if you can't handle spicy, just put on a few drops. This location has indoor dining, and there are plenty of seating, but it's somewhat close seating if you're ever there when they're busy. The food comes out fairly quick and nice and hot. Service is hit and miss, but that's usually because there's only 1 server to the whole place (when I've been there). I definitely recommend the spot for your authentic Peruvian craving. read more

It took them 15 minutes to come back after seating us and bring us water when it was hot outside. We both ordered the lomo saltado which supposedly was made with filet mignon instead of normal beef. It had some gristle so I'm not sure the extra $5 got us better meat. The ratio felt off, less tomato and way too much onion. Otherwise just average and nothing special. After asking for the check since N had to leave for work the waiter took his time to come back and get our card, another 10 minutes. So N left and I had to wait around to pay. Have been here a couple of times for the Lomo Saltado. Sooo good! The place always seems empty which can make people nervous but food and service are good and they seem to do a lot of to go orders (seemingly more than dine in). This type of food is a bit out of my comfort zone but I'm glad I decided to give Peruvian He ordered this drink called Inca Cola which was very good! Taste like a sweeter version of Coke. I am vegetarian so it can be a bit difficult for me to order at places like this. The server who was helping us recommended me a couple dishes. I picked a rice, veggies, and beans marinated in sauce. My dad ordered a dish with marinated meat and a fried egg on top. He seemed to really enjoy his dish because he finished it quickly. Since it was his birthday, he was given a complementary flan. Their seafood paella (arroz con mariscos) is a best-seller for a reason. Crazy good (and ABUNDANT) seafood, delicious cilantro rice, and the best damn aji sauce on the side. Get this and you will not be disappointed. I have also enjoyed their empanadas and lomo saltado (good, though not the best I have had in OC). It hurts me to write this review as I must have eaten here over 100 times, the girls there provide great service & they have some good green sauce. I understand there are price increases and no issues with that, but when they cut protein portion sizes that leave you eating a plate full of french fries and veggies drenched in soy sauce with white rice it becomes a problem. Last time my fiancée and I ate there she noticed and said "wow I barely got any chicken" (I also noticed it but didn't say anything). I had it again today and I am not joking when I say this - I am lucky if I got 2 oz of chicken! That's ridiculous. I had to tell the girl who works there. I don't think I'll be back and here's why.. She gave the right answer that the meat portions are always the same, etc but it's not true. 5 pencil-width 1" pieces of meat. Probably right under 2 oz. I'm now leaving to go get my protein elsewhere (after a $24 meal). As a business you can't take up your cost AND leave the customer protein-empty and carb full. Not right. read more

It's no secret that I have been a long time fan of this place dating back probably 8 to 10 years... the last few visits we have noticed the portions are getting smaller and smaller. The flavors are still on point but most dishes nowadays are 90% vegetables or rice with very little meat. Extremely sad to see this as this is the beginning of the end for any restaurant. People notice when their meals are suddenly full of onions or rice... What I'm reviewing is solely based on what was delivered to me because I didn't eat inside. I ordered a beef saltado and a child's alfredo for my cousin. From the small taste that she's let me try, the chicken from the alfredo was really good! The pasta was a little sweet, but it was surprisingly better than either of us anticipated. On the other hand, I wish I dined inside because my beef saltado order was wrong. Instead of receiving fries, I got a side order of beans. YELP really came through with the pictures. I didn't know what to get, so I just swiped and looked up the menu. I ended up getting the Juanita Stew with chicken. I was pleasantly surprise how much I enjoyed the flavors. I think texture wise with the rice all in the sauce I needed different texture to really enjoy My aunt got a seafood caliente dish that was excellent (I 100% tried). She got three different fish in her dish (shrimp, white fish, calamari). Sauce was so good I put the bread in Bread and green spicy sauce were just ok Pineapple cola was a nice change.
