In town for a youth hockey tournament and staying at a hotel near by, tried this place with a party of six on a whim as my mom is from Peru and I grew up eating Peruvian food at home and at Bay Area restaurants. Everything we had was delicious. Service was attentive. Ambience was pleasant. I would highly recommend Inka Grill for a delicious Peruvian meal. Appetizers -- papa rellena (stuffed potato w/ beef), camote rellena (stuffed sweet potato w/ chicken), palta rellana (stuffed avocado), papa a la hauanciana, yuca frita (fried yucca). Rarely see papa rellena on menus, one of our favorite foods and theirs was tasty. Loved the sweet potato version, which was a first for us. Having only had palta rellena in Peru, this dish had me reminiscing. My only complaint here is the potato to hauncaina sauce ratio was off, could have used more/larger pieces of potato but the sauce was as creamy and spicy like it should be. Mains -- lomo and chicken saltado, bistec a lo pobre, ají de gallina. I would have liked to tried more main dishes but my families loves saltado so three in our group got that and all thought it was delicious. My husband asked if they had bistec a lo pobre and they kindly turned their Milinesa dish into one by replacing the salad with fries and adding a fried egg. I had the ají de gallina, one of my favorites, and it was very tasty. Desserts -- Juanita's crepes, alfajores. Have never seen this crepe w/ dulce de leche and fried plantains before, I would return just to eat this again and again. Got a box of mini alfajores to go, they were a solid way to fulfill an alfajore craving. Drinks -- Inka cola (can't be a Peruvian restaurant without this Peruvian soda), chicha morada (yummy), pisco sour (generously sized and tasty) Inka punch (chicha w/ pisco = why didn't I think of this before?!). read more

Dang! I forgot to take a picture. I really wanted some ceviche and made the brilliant choice to get it at the Inka Grill. Their ceviche rocked my world! I could not help myself and started in on it before I thought about taking a picture and I should have because when you think of Peruvian ceviche - this is what it should look like. I asked for it extra spicy and they delivered. Sometimes you get these giant chunks of yam that takes up a lot of space in the dish - just a bit too much of a good thing. The Inka Grill had the perfect sized yam slice that sat on a mound of seafood and onions, roasted corn, white corn, etc. with everything bathed in spicy lime juice. There was also this excellent spicey green sauce in a squirt bottle that was perfect for spicing up the yam. The service was great and the setting was cozy - a very pleasant setting to enjoy some excellent Peruvian food. I counted myself quite fortunate to be in a hotel within walking distance. I sat in a booth here for lunch and looked over their extensive menu. All your Peruvian favorites are here plus more. A complementary basket of soft, fresh rolls with the obligatory aji sauce is brought to your table as you order. I ordered lomo saltado and an Inka Kola. The interior of this place feels dated but is nicely decorated with paintings of various Peruvian landscapes, portraits, and still lifes. There are plenty of native pottery pieces on display too. My meal came out very quickly. It was good but done a bit differently than I've seen at other Peruvian restaurants. Every ingredient was cut into bite-sized portions. The beef was sliced into slender pieces, the tomato and onion in small chunks, and small slices of scallions were added which are a unique (but tasty) addition. I enjoyed it but a couple pieces of beef were chewy. I did appreciate that they didn't overdo the amount of potato or onion as often happens elsewhere; everything seemed to be well proportioned. As others mentioned, it is solid Peruvian food but the prices are puzzlingly high. At the time of this writing a lunch plate of lomo saltado is about $17, a can of Inca Kola almost $4, and there is an additional fee for using a credit card rather than paying cash. I have to deduce that either the landlord is gouging them or maybe this is just what inflation looks like. read more

Strike two for ordering pick up from Inka Grill in Lake Forest. This is the second time the menu description doesn't match what was served. I didn't give a negative review previously because I assumed it was a fluke. Nope... just poor quality control. I ordered Huancaina and received something in a different sauce that has chicken in it. Definitely not what was expected. I also ordered the Chupe chicken that was supposed to have chunks of potato, but there was no potato and a bowl full of rice. Again, not what was expected or promised per the menu. We also ordered 2 servings of basil spaghetti with beef. The beef was a nice serving, but the noodles were relatively dry. I paid for 2 extra orders of bread, but when my daughter went to pick up the order, they gave her a hard time about the bread. Over $80 and very disappointed. I will be opting for Inka Mama's next time instead. They are a little more expensive, but at least you get what you expect. We've been coming to this place for years always getting our favorite the Seafood paella which is so tasty and the fish is very fresh. We love putting green Peruvian sauce on it. I've been an Inka Grill customer from back in the Costa Mesa location. My wife and I make special trips from Riverside County (Moreno Valley) all the way to Lake Forest because it's the best tasting Peruvian food of the rest we've tried. My go-to plate is the Chaufa de Pollo. A big bowl of fried rice is all you need to stay full for the rest of your day. Don't forget to squeeze on some gren sauce, but if you can't handle spicy, just put on a few drops. This location has indoor dining, and there are plenty of seating, but it's somewhat close seating if you're ever there when they're busy. The food comes out fairly quick and nice and hot. Service is hit and miss, but that's usually because there's only 1 server to the whole place (when I've been there). I definitely recommend the spot for your authentic Peruvian craving. read more

It took them 15 minutes to come back after seating us and bring us water when it was hot outside. We both ordered the lomo saltado which supposedly was made with filet mignon instead of normal beef. It had some gristle so I'm not sure the extra $5 got us better meat. The ratio felt off, less tomato and way too much onion. Otherwise just average and nothing special. It hurts me to write this review as I must have eaten here over 100 times, the girls there provide great service & they have some good green sauce. I understand there are price increases and no issues with that, but when they cut protein portion sizes that leave you eating a plate full of french fries and veggies drenched in soy sauce with white rice it becomes a problem. Last time my fiancée and I ate there she noticed and said "wow I barely got any chicken" (I also noticed it but didn't say anything). I had it again today and I am not joking when I say this - I am lucky if I got 2 oz of chicken! That's ridiculous. I had to tell the girl who works there. I don't think I'll be back and here's why.. She gave the right answer that the meat portions are always the same, etc but it's not true. 5 pencil-width 1" pieces of meat. Probably right under 2 oz. I'm now leaving to go get my protein elsewhere (after a $24 meal). As a business you can't take up your cost AND leave the customer protein-empty and carb full. Not right. read more
