The scalp massage alone was so relaxing and felt absolutely amazing. My curls have not felt this good in years they were curling for real, defined, soft, and full of life. This review is for a specific stylist rather than the entire business. Kimberly Capelli's skill set is not on par with her prices or her word. I paid over $1000 and had to go back three times and she still couldn't come close to doing what was asked. My hair looks worse than ever and I still have to go get it fixed by a real hairdresser. It's my fault for trusting her word and continuing to go back to her because I thought she could fix what she had done. I sent her a picture of what I wanted when I booked the appointment and she was enthusiastic. It was a basic brown color with ashy bolyage. After I sat down in her chair she said it might take another session, but I was already committed at that point. My hair looked like an amateur had done it. She died my roots too dark for the second time (she did it previously too and now I see my error in going back to her) and made the body of the hair golden without any blending throughout. The next session she did some toner and it didn't help. The third session she made a poor attempt to blend the color and gave me early 2000's golden streaks through dark roots. I asked her to fix it and she tried to soak me for more money. When I refused, she blamed me for not understanding "the process". I go to a salon because they are supposed to be the professionals. If I have to know how to do it myself so I can supervise you then I don't need your service. Each session she acknowledged that she didn't come close to achieving the desired result and I'd have to pay for her to fix it with another session. She never explained how many sessions would be needed or how much it would cost, and that is because she didn't have any idea. She was just winging it and expecting me to continue to pay for her mistakes and lack of skill. Buyer beware - be sure to choose a different stylist at that salon. read more

I recently got a Brazilian blowout for a really great price on Groupon a few weeks ago. I got my hair done by Stacia. I think the deal is still up on Groupon under Brazilian blowouts & hair by Stacia. I paid less than half of what most places charge for this treatment using the Groupon. Unlike some places, Stacia won't try to pull the bait & switch with you. I was going to go to this other stylist until I called her & asked her if there would be any additional charges. She told me that it'd cost me $105 extra if my hair was past my shoulders. I was shocked by that. She told me that was written in the fine print when I told her that's not what her ad said. She was right, it was listed there. I'm glad that she told me about that upfront instead of surprising me that day. One of the smartest, most down to earth, and coolest woman on yelp told me that she was probably read the riot act to many times by other women on here, so that's why she decided to just be upfront about things on the phone. Thankfully I was able to cancel the Groupon right away. Anyways, Stacia has been doing hair for a long time & her regular price for the Brazilian blowout still costs less than what most places would charge. She's trying to build up a new client list as a lot of her clients moved out of the area due to the high cost of living. I was nervous about how things would turn out as I always am with a new stylist, but my hair turned out to be straight, smooth, and shinier than it has been in awhile afterwards. She used a mask & glasses on me since the chemicals are bad for you, and the fumes irritate sensitive eyes like mine. Most hairdressers haven't offered me any protection before. Clearly she cares about her clients safety & comfort. You can't wash your hair for three days or color it for two weeks after getting this treatment done. You can't get it wet or put it up either. You have to use paraben & sulfate free shampoo & conditioner to keep your hair straight. It won't make your hair stick straight, but it'll make it smoother, reduce frizz, and it'll come out fairly straight after you blow dry it. It depends on your hair type. I got a few compliments from some of my former coworkers after I got it done. They didn't recognize me at first, lol. I used to wear my hair up a lot up until then, or hide my unruly dry wavy hair under a hat most of the time. This treatment is supposed to last for three months, but it usually only lasts a month and a half for me although I only wash my hair a few times a week. I'll definitely come back to see Stacia again! The salon is clean & easy to find. There is plenty of parking in the Nob Hill shopping center. read more

This place has such a great vibe.. and it's in a very convenient location. Its near a big Nob HIll, and in the heart of a complex full of other small businesses. One thing missing - a coffee shop.. But I was relieved that the salon serves coffee there..!! You might have to ask for it, but they have a pot to make it. What I like most about Innovators is the fact that every hair station is more private than in most salons, and has a sink in every station. Lauryn has been doing my hair for quite some time now, and when she moved into this salon I thought.....BOO YA! Stacia is absolutely AMAZING!! She's so easy to talk to and she knows what she's doing. Can't recommend her enough. I've never had my hair dyed before, and I wanted it all purple. Full bleach and everything. From start to finish my experience here was great. Yelp photos led me to Stacia and from the moment I contacted her I knew I was in for a treat. She asked me to send her images of what cut and color I was thinking about so that she could start getting ideas too. I had to abruptly cancel my first appointment (because of an unfortunate trip to the emergency room) and Stacia was an absolute sweetie about me needing to reschedule. With my appointment re-scheduled, my mom called Innovators to find out if they had a similar appointment time for her and they were very accommodating. My hair was in serious need of love after I'd let a multi-color rainbow dye job get very faded. Not only did Stacia do a great job transforming my faded frazzled hair into a blue dream, after the dye and blow-out she noticed one of the colors she used (cobalt) just wasn't looking right on my hair. Rather than blue it was looking a weird green. She wanted to make sure I was really happy so she offered to re-dye those pieces with the beautiful dark blue "Sapphire" and ended up dyeing everything again. Mary has been the greatest hair discovery of my life. My mom has been going to her for cut and color for about 7 years now and I just started going to her last month for my own cut and color. Mary tailors your haircut to your exact specifications and is very careful about your length. As a 22 year old who loves to curl her long hair daily, Mary is a blessing! Dear Diary, I need to make a confession. Recently, I was unfaithful. Yes, I cheated. I feel terrible. Things were not going as I wanted and I was at a awkward point in my life. I needed some kind of change and I wasn't willing to wait for it. I just needed to feel alive again. So I had an affair. Yes, I had quick and memorable affair with another hair stylist. My stylist for the past year and a half, Melissa (from a different salon), was too busy for me. I had an important business trip approaching and she couldn't make any time for me since she was busy with a wedding commitment. I felt betrayed and started to harbor resentment for her. All of the time we had spent together. All of the laughs we had. The way she would touch my hair, play with her toys, work her magic, and make feel amazing once she was done with me. But she was off making other people feel better about themselves at a stupid wedding. She was in another city; listening to others, making them laugh, and running her magical hands through strange strands of hair. Was my hair no longer important to her? Why would she do that to me? I pictured her touching another person's hair and it was agonizing. It made me sick to my stomach. I couldn't eat. I couldn't sleep. I grew depressed, bitter, and jealous. I fought back tears of anger and I made some calls. Someone in my social circle recommended Penny at Innovators in Campbell. I felt nervous about making an appointment. I knew it was wrong of me to even consider someone else to do my hair as I was already in a committed (stylist) relationship. But I picked up the phone, nervously entered the digits, and made an appointment with Penny. The following day, I drove over to see her during my lunch hour. If I was ready and willing, this was going to be a quickie of afternoon delight. The girl at the front desk was helpful. She walked me walked me through the labyrinth of a salon that also features mani/pedi stations, as well as private waxing and massage rooms. Not sure what exactly goes in the massage rooms, but a saw a super old man walk in with a smile and leave the massage room with an even bigger smile. Maybe he was up to no good like I was? The salon itself was huge. It was extremely spacious with lots of private little workstations. The overall décor of the place was awesome, which featured a Halloween theme (at the time). Each work station, which look like cubicles with cement partitions, are individually decorated by the stylist that occupies that space. It's a cute touch that differs greatly from other salons where chairs are placed side by side like an assembly line. At Innovators, it's just you and your stylist. Eventually, it was just me and Penny. I admitted to her that I was nervous about someone else touching my hair and I hadn't let anyone else touch me in that area in a long time. But she made me feel comfortable by offering me some fresh brewed coffee or candy, but I knew it would give me the jitters. So I opted for some complimentary bottled water. I took a sip and then sat down. I felt very anxious as Penny personally washed my long, slightly damaged hair. But the warm water on my scalp helped relax me. Her hands slowly massaged my head and I melted. But part of me was still slightly nervous of what was coming next. I told her what I wanted and I showed her pictures of how I wanted it done. My heart started to beat rapidly. I trembled a little as she grabbed a few strands of my hair and got started. I knew it was too late to back out now. She took her time. She made me feel special. And by the time she was done, I felt like a new man. Clearly, Penny is a great stylist with a very relaxed and friendly personality. Penny did an amazing job with my hair. She gave me a professional cut that featured my signature side swept bangs. And as my hair grew out, it maintained its shape, look, and style. Approximately six weeks later, my hair still looks amazing. Men lie. Women lie. But pictures don't, right? I am not sure what I should do now. Clearly, Melissa knows my hair best. She knows its strengths. But she also knows its weakness. She knows how to handle it best. But Penny did a remarkable job. It was different. But nice. I am tempted to see her again. But if I do, Melissa will know of my infidelity. She'll realize it has been a long time since she has touched me and will most likely notice that something is very different about me. I am scared to step inside her salon again. In the end, I will return to Melissa. It's hard to leave someone who have so much history with. I visited innovators for a massage from Jen and I was pleasantly surprised with not only the spa, but also with the private massage room and the excellent massage Jen provided. I went in feeling a little uneasy since this was my first full massage, but Jen eased away all of my concerns and insecurities I previously had about massage. Extensions!!! Erika put in my extensions last week and I absolutely love them! They look completely natural, she made sure my hair matched perfectly, and they are pretty comfortable to wear. If you are thinking about getting them here are a few pointers from someone who had no clue: * the hair comes wavy, so invest in leave-in conditioner for the ends to smooth them out (I have stick straight hair so this is new to me) * actually read the directions Erika gives you right then and don't wait a few days... I didn't realize I needed to brush my hair before I showered and boy does it make a difference * give yourself at least 20 minutes more a day if you are showering and blow drying : more hair = more time * if you are a pony tail girl, get them kinda far from your ears or else they will pull I am so pleased with my new, long, luxurious hair! A 5-Star rating for my 5-star stylist. I met Stephanie 3 years ago when she was working at Regis in Valley Fair. I wasn't her regular, rather, my friend/stylist (Kristin) worked there as well and if she was running behind and Stephanie had time, she would get my shampoo started. When Kristin left, the only logical step was to start seeing Stephanie. She left Regis about 18 months ago, and of course, I followed her to Innovators. It's such a great salon, downright lovely, if you ask me! The gals are always pleasant at the front, and while I always book with Stephanie directly, they are always smiling to great me when I walk in. I think my all-time favorite feature at Innovators is the shampoo bowl directly at the stations, and the fact that they are semi-walled off, so you feel like you're having a little private session with stylist. A little about Stephanie... She is fantastic. My hair is curly, frizzy, dry, and often times, very difficult for me to keep up with if I let it air dry. Stephanie has always been able to tame my hair and give me a cut that works with my hair type. She's also seen me through several different styles, from a drastic a-line bob with color panels, the grow-out phase when I was desperately hoping my hair would be long enough for my wedding, and now, the crazy phase where my goal in life is to have hair like Beyonce. She'll always offer the best. I know how long it takes to blow dry and flat iron my hair, but if she's got the time, I will walk out of Innovators looking hella fancy! Originally from the East Bay I've been going to the same guy for a haircut since before I could talk. I'm a pretty simple girl who likes very simple low maintenance hair. Pretty much 99 times out of 100 my hair is in a pony tail and out of my face. Since moving down to the South Bay I was on a quest to find a new stylist to cut my hair. I decided to go to Stephanie S. at Innovators who was highly recommended by a friend. I loved my hair! It was cut to a perfect length. Not too long but long enough to put in a pony tail if needed haha. And the price was very reasonable, $45 dollars for a cut. She also told me she does color, wedding and prom styles and even make up. I'm so happy I found a new place to get my hair done. I will definitely come back and I might even wear my hair down sometimes. I've been coming here since June 2008 and Jake's my hair guy. HE'S SO GOOD (that's what he said) All jokes aside, Innovators is pretty great and affordable. Jake is really personable and he puts up with my last minute appointments! Tiffany works with all of them and she keeps everyone's schedule in order. She's super sweet and always calls me a day in advance to remind me of my upcoming haircut. She's definitely a life-saver especially with my crazy schedule (I'm prone to be so busy that I forget to take care of myself, haircut included!) The facility is nice and clean. Jake's space is really fun because he has all of his knick knacks and of course, a picture of him and his gorgeous wife! When I come in for a haircut, I generally just explain a couple of parameters that I want (how short etc), but I pretty much give Jake free rein with how he wants to cut my hair so it looks good. Trust me, my hair is MY LIFE. I guess I trust Jake with my life! He's a great guy and he's great at his job. I think what makes him stand out for me is that he loves life and he loves his job. I was amazed when I walked in because from the outside you're expecting just a little ordinary hair salon. But no was I fooled!! The set up is so cute. All the stations our very personal with their own sinks. I love it. The decor is fabulous too. Very modern. The front desk staff was great too. Battling with curly hair all my life, I went from every type of straightening perm possible. Exhausted with this lifelong battle with my hair, I've decided to grow out my curly hair but winced just thinking about the growth process (painnfullll!!!) After exploring different options, I opted to go with the Brazilian Blowout since it eventually washes out but is great for my type of hair. Only problem was I needed a stylist who didn't take any shortcuts in doing this treatment with my hair. Enter Jenna. She uses the hair straightener recommended for the Brazilian Blowout treatment (which most stylists skimp out on because of its price- but doesn't work as well) and this is the KEY to having a successful blowout. My crazy kinky hair is tamed for 2-3 months. This is a miracle because all other treatments I've done have left me unhappy with the result- all but this one. We only did one trial run, and she nailed it very well for the most part, and was very receptive to what I might like to do differently for the day of. The day of the actual wedding, she got there early and was waiting patiently for us, with her kit spread out and ready to go. She styled hair for the bridesmaids, and did a lovely job of it. When I got there, Lora and I discussed some ideas for the new "look" I wanted as well as what styles I did not like (so we were both on the same page). Great color and cut with Stacia. I rarely venture out to a new place for my hair and I usually only get it done once a year. I yelped color specialist and this salon came up and most the reviews mentioned Stacia so I thought I'd bite the bullet and let someone new do my hair. It took about 4-5 hours, but well worth it- I have a lot of hair and usually only get it partially colored cause no one can do all of it without frying it. She knows exactly what you want, is so much fun to talk to, is very outgoing and friendly, and the salon is gorgeous and her prices are fair. Terrible. Horrifying. I saw Stacia. Hair by Stacia, who rents a booth in Innovators Salon. She was recommended to me by my beloved stylist from where I used to live. He has a wide network, but he didn't know her in person. Stacia didn't listen. She utterly missed the mark by a couple of miles and wasn't capable of doing the balance between edgy and professional. Instead she landed solidly in adolescent hair. Based on how she treated me that's probably how she saw me, and she should have self-checked before she did my hair. She gave me something completely against what I wanted in both the cut, which I could live with, and in the color, which I can't. Factors for the 1 star: 1. Haircut is asymmetrical- I didn't want asymmetrical. I told her not to touch the length in front AT ALL and she removed at least 4 inches. Inches. While she may have not been able or willing to do the cut I wanted, she definitely should have listened and not cut off the length I wanted to keep in front and made it symmetrical at the very least. 3. Color- Most importantly it's BLUE. I wanted natural. It's BLUE. Major issue here. This gets you complete stunned silence in the chair. Also, she was crazy. I have a small area of gray at the top of my head. She root touched up my whole head a few shades darker than my natural color. Didn't notice until morning,.. like why is my brown so dark, wha?? I was so distracted by the BLUE I didn't realize my natural color isn't my natural color any longer. 4. Messy- I left with dye all over my face and around my hairline. Dye all over my hands from helping her secure a clip (she asked me). Hair all over my shirt. Covered in hair. My mother saw me and said she'd never seen anything like it. I looked like a hairy woman! My shirt was drenched. Even on pleading with Stacia to help me blow off _some_ of the hair, she left me covered with hair and dye. How rude was that? 5. Bad, terrible, awful, no good consultation skills- I came in with what I liked that had long past grown out but I liked it, I wanted it redone to highlight the new haircut she'd do. Sure, I've done crazy colors in my past and I do work in a creative field, however, I wanted natural colors. I was looking for a creative, corporately professional look I'd defined as being: edgy cut, striking color placement, natural colors. I'd come in with ombre sections in shoulder length hair that I liked a lot, but wanted it (the color) to be redone or something similar to go with the new haircut. I wanted to keep the length in front _don't touch it_ and dramatically short in back. We _never_ discussed asymmetrical. She talked me into a bayalage highlight instead of the sections that I came in with- with hints of blue. She talked me into that hint of blue, I was reluctant. I said I was ok with a little blue here and there like 'feathers' within the natural bayalage coloring and placement. I was very clear, I wanted natural colors. She thought the color came out 'brassy' when she lifted it, and she wanted to tone it down. She said she was taking creative license when I asked her about why she was putting blue over all the highlights.?? She explained it because she didn't like the brassy-ness of the highlights. She kept telling me she was toning down the brassy-ness and they'd be beautiful. She washed it the last time and,... omg omg omg OME. BLUEBERRY BLUE highlights ALL over my head!!!!!!!! I get more and more upset the more I see it. Stacia then rushed the blow dry and clean up so I was covered in my own hair and dye because she was running late for her next client so she said. When you go blue or any bright, primary color, it _must_ be by consent with the client especially with how much and where.. I've been doing interesting colors since 2001. I've only ever liked well placed sections, ever. This time I pretty much wanted it no way at all and only a tiny hint if any. I would say never ever have I has a stylist willy nilly done a total color hijack on me. Sure I haven't always been thrilled, but I've never ever been HIJACKED in the chair like I was with Stacia. Hijacked. She gave me 10% off of the service and offered to 'fix' it, but how do you 'fix' not listening? How do you fix hijacking? Or fix going rogue and doing something completely unwanted? She kept telling me how she likes my hair, how she thinks it's beautiful. Ha! But I didn't want this. It wasn't what I agreed to. Blue hair color is awful when you didn't want it and didn't ask for it. 6. This salon isn't a good set up if you're differently abled or very short. The sinks are in the booths so the human factors of the chairs can be awkward and uncomfortable. They don't seem to have common chairs or retrofits that would allow shorter people to comfortably sit to have their hair washed. Went there to get my boyfriend a basic haircut, easy right? They said a hairstylist had time to fit him in. I0 minutes and 40 dollars later she had him pay. When he closely looked at his hair, the back was completely uneven and not cut around the ears correctly. Basically the whole cut seemed rushed so she could get back to another client. For the price and ratings of the salon we greatly expected better quality. read more

OK I just LOVE Emily, she is a very talented young woman! I was unhappy with my stylist for some time , I took a leap of faith although Emily comes very highly recommened and I have never been so happy with my hair. Her highlights are PERFECT and bright paried with such a complimenting low light. I wanted to go much more bold and have "noticable" hair, Emily did just that. I have recived multipule compliments more importantly from my biggest fan ....my husband, he noticed the difference in the quiality and technique right away. I just made my 2nd appointment with Emily and will continue to go back, shes fun, freindly, absolutly adorable the salon is very inviting more importantly this girl knows what she is doing! An awesome, highly skilled and uncommonly fun personality...Stacia! Just days before a visit to the Bay Area, I contacted her hoping to get an appointment with her during my short visit. She made time for me, and....I'd been contemplating a pretty drastic hairstyle change. During my visit we discussed and ended up being pretty conservative in terms of length, when I left, my hair, cut and color looked completely gorgeous! Still, I had a nagging feeling after leaving, that I really wanted to do something I'd never done...one text to Stacia, and she made room for me the very next day! Her level of customer service s outstanding and she is genuinely interested in clients leaving feeling thrilled with their style.....Not to mention, she does such a beautiful job!
