We did chef's tasting menu, and it's so incredibly delicious. We shared the wine pairing, which complimented the flavors perfectly. The shrimp ceviche, and duck confit were especially noteworthy. Our server, Lucia was delightful and perfectly paced our meal. read more

I wasn't going to write a review... but decided management needs to hear some impartial words. I know this place is a local favorite & reviews are great, precisely because of that & the fact that many people in the area don't cook at home regularly & go out to eat so often, which in my mind automatically puts you into the category of "just need to eat" vs going out somewhere for a special meal. I've been coming in, on average, every couple of months, more often in the summer. In previous years, I have come in more often with my girlfriends for a happy hour with apps. The food has always been high quality & tasty... but I happen to be a very experienced home cook... as is my husband. I/we cook every night & only occasionally go out. We also cook all of our food for every family event & host dinner parties. So we're probably more demanding of a restaurant & it really needs to have unique flavors & items, which I wouldn't make at home.... otherwise what's the point of going out, if we can cook it at home for about 1/5 of the cost. Having said that, they do a good job on entrees & many items. However, I've been coming here for years for some wine & apps with friends & I've noticed a definite shift in quality & recently got a big sticker shock on pricing. I'm a creature of habit, so I tend to order my favorite wine & appetizer or 2. Our bill for the same exact meal for 2 people would average about $60 (for wine & 1 app). I was there recently & our bill was $90... I didn't even look at the menu prices, just ordered the usual. Well... the wine increased by $4 per glass vs in the Fall & the tuna app was one of my favorites: used to be a nice chunky piece. This time we got some "shavings" of tuna with some kind of tortilla strips... for $18. It felt & looked like a cheaper Happy Hour app, not a full priced menu option. We're still talking about that pricey 1 app meal... I understand that food & labor costs have gone up tremendously... but if you're charging downtown Chicago prices, you've got to deliver in every way. And having said that, I would still come back for dinner & a bottle of wine: but I'm going to check the menu pricing & choose wisely. My advice: take another look at what's coming out of the kitchen & ask yourself: does it match the quality of years past & is it a fair price? read more

The night was special (anniversary) and the food and service were NOT. Made a reservation and upon arrival the host wished us a happy anniversary then proceeded to sit us next to the largest table (10 people) when the dining room was 75% empty. We had to stand waiting (5-10min) while they checked to see if it was ok to seat us elsewhere. The service was adequate yet the food was MEH. Blackened whitefish and burger both average at best. Yes! Yes! Yes! Why have i never been here before?!? I was looking earlier this week on yelp and opentable for somewhere to bring my husband for a celebration dinner (new job). This place came up as top rated and only 20 mins from my house. The only thing my husband requested that the location have was top quality meat and based on the reviews this place definitely fit that. I made a 5:30p reservation for last night. We arrived on time and were seated immediately. The server greeted us upon arrival with a large bottle of fresh water (not the nasty well stuff :)). And everything just became fluid from there on out. We ended up ordering: Burrata & Berries, edamame, poke bowl, salmon & salmon, gunthrop farms chicken. The burrata was like butter. Edamame with togarashi, just yum. I loved the sushi, so fresh and delicious. My husband LOVED the chicken. He is quite the food critic also and was wowed by the food. The food was amazing! Such a surprise for the palette.The server, I'm horrible about names, was also outstanding. He checked on us frequently and even requested a hot chocolate to be made from scratch in the kitchen. He was a bit sarcastic which definitely lightened the mood. I really like the fresh local and imported ingredients of this place! The farm to table ideal is there and it's vey innovative (as suggested). I will 100% come back in the future and will highly recommend this place (asi have already started doing). Try it! We first went 8 1/2 years ago and had a great experience and great food. When we were doing a kitchen Reno in 2018 we were there all the time. We spent thousands. I often took the kids there for early dinner. And then it went so wrong Staff started leaving. Then one night, despite being on a list for a wine tasting event, they hadn't set a place and we ended up sitting in the bar and getting zero experience but some good info on the wine (pre paid so tough luck for us) Then we realised they had changed their loyalty points program - we had well over 2000 points I think 100 short of a home cooked meal and they refused not only to honour the points but to compensate in any way. The owner refused to speak to us, take our phone calls or meet my husband in the restaurant. So we decided to take ourselves and guests to other establishments. Then we had covid - I started using them again for take out because basically we had begging mails to support the local restaurants. So we did. It wasn't the staff's fault we had such a negative experience and we wanted to support local workers. A couple of sporadic visits were positive. Roll forward to last night. I thought let's give it a go again. We want to keep our money local and we had a party of 11. We just should not have bothered. They refused to allow the adults to have the tasting menu at $75 a head (we would then have paired with wine) because 3 teens were going a la carte (my son had the steak at $45 so hardly cheap) We asked them to move the teens to another table. They said no we aren't allowed. Nothing on the menu gives any rules of what you can or can't order. We had a table of attorneys. They were amused at best. If I was being generous I would say they were lying because basically they didn't have a good enough chef in to actually cook the tasting menu. But with the behaviour we have had from the owner before it could also be a superiority issue. Review of the food: my sword fish was over cooked. That's about all I can remember. That and being totally embarrassed that we had brought guests there. read more

We did the 6 course tasting menu, and all the food we had was delicious. The cocktails were amazing; the "costo brava campfire" and the "well, we can't call it a Moscow mule anymore." Note that this review is for the vegetarian course of the tasting menu only. My group had several folks who had no dietary restrictions and they appeared to enjoy the tasting menu sufficiently. Except for the entree, every course comes family style. The vegetarian option in the 1st course was burrata along with some pesto and fresh berries. I enjoyed this course. My 2nd and 3rd course was a plate of grains with roasted seasonal vegetables. I found it delicious but lacking in fulfilling the role of a dish that is tasked with fulfilling the 2nd and 3rd course. While my meat eating friends got two sets of varied, beautifully played dishes, I had a boring plate of vegetables sitting in front of me. Not a pleasant experience! The 4th course was dessert and again it was an assortment of chocolate tortes and cakes served with some hazelnut sauce. Basic bakery fare presented very messily. The hazelnut sauce was the only delicious item. Service was impeccable and the ambience cozy and romantic. Good selection of wines as well. I don't recall if we paid less for the vegetarian tasting menu, but I sure do hope as it was lackluster in comparison to the full tasting menu. read more
