Went with my family for Easter brunch. Food was mediocre and service and the kitchen were horribly slow. Maybe they were understaffed since waiters seemed busy. Food was uninspired and reminded us of overpriced hotel food. On the positive side, the dining room was pretty and the hostess was nice. We got omelette, steak frites, and roast chicken. They charged an extra 18% surcharge and then wanted me to pay a tip on top it! I ate there for lunch with my son and his girlfriend on October 13, a chilly Saturday afternoon. We had to sit inside. The decor was ok, but the screen with a poorly made video and the curtained-off choir loft ruined the atmosphere. And it was freezing inside!!! When we mentioned it to the hostess, she suggested we sit outside next to the heater. The food was overpriced and mediocre. Despite the fact that there were few other diners, we had to wait at least 35 minutes for a burger and a french dip sandwich. But the worst was when we got the bill. In addition to the cost of the food there was an unexplained item - a surcharge for $18.00. There was also a note on the bill that said in uppercase letters, "Gratuities not included." I asked the waiter what the surcharge was and he said, "Oh it's the tip. I don't know why they make note about the gratuities is on the bill." Pretty unbelievable. read more

My sister-in-law and I stumbled on this place while looking for a late lunch one Saturday. It was a pleasant surprise! The Good: The patio is AMAZING on a warm spring day. Unlike all other outdoor eating in NYC, this is an actual patio not on the sidewalk! The truffled risotto balls were delicious! Allow them to cool slightly before biting into one; they were served very hot. I ordered the Asian Chopped Chicken Salad upon the recommendation of the waiter. It was surprisingly flavorful and had a very generous portion of chicken. The service was professional and attentive, but not overly friendly. The OK: My sis-in-law ordered their special, scallops with risotto. While it was delicious, the portions left her still hungry. And especially for the price! It was not a cheap entree. Some friends were in town visiting recently and I recommended that they stop by for lunch. They had a similar experience to mine. One ordered the same salad and loved it. On a nice spring or fall day this restaurant offers, good food and the chance to sit outside on Park Avenue. It has a big circular bar if you are dining alone and they tent the whole area in bad weather but I think they are closed outside in the winter, but not sure check their website. The Church also has an inclusive mission which is admirable in my opinion. I was having an early dinner here after work and I noticed a women's pocket book draped over the back of a chair at the bar. Suddenly a women in her sixties came running in and said OMG there it is. Apparently, she was on vacation from Amsterdam and had forgotten her pocket book when she had lunch earlier in the day and she was back tracking her stops all day looking for it. It sat there for five / six hours and no one took it. I hope she goes back to Amsterdam and tells this great story about how New Yorkers didn't take advantage and rip her off. read more

Ghastly! Poor , indifferent service, poor food and spartan decor. From our arrival at 12:40, it took until 1:55 for our over salted salad and gloppy fat laden over sauced sandwich to arrive. Before the grand arrival of our main course, we did get the daily soup special which was tasty but at $9 for a paltry cup, it was Four Seasons pricing and cafe Europa quality. (I don't mean to insult cafe Europa which is actually better.) The "profuse" apologies from the manager amounted to a business card and "come by for free drinks." It was quiet, but the decor looked like a modestly glossed over school or church auditorium. Plenty of indifferent wait staff for the rotten service, I suspect the staff was trained by the postal service or some other government agency. AVOID! read more

This was the worst dining experience I have ever had in New York, or anywhere for that matter. They were seriously understaffed. The hostess ended up taking our order and bringing our drinks. We never had an actual server come to our table. We waited for long periods to get our drinks and food. We had to ask the hostess for bread, and it was delivered after the appetizers. Once we received our meal we wanted to order wine, but no one ever came to take our order or even check on us. My fiance finally had to get up and walk to the hostess stand to ask for a manager. When the manager finally came to the table, he was dismissive and told us their main focus was outdoor service in the summer and gave us the bill. I was so baffled by this rudeness after the horrible service on our anniversary, I burst into tears! I asked him why the inside was even open if they were not able to provide proper service for the paying customers inside. At that point, he took the check away stating, "Don't even worry about it". He walked away without any other words, not even an apology. I have never been more disappointed in the service industry. One of my favorite things about New York is the amazing restaurants and the service you get at these restaurants. I will pay top dollar for good service and a great meal, but I will NEVER return to Inside Park at St. Bart's and I suggest you, the reader, never do either. read more

Candles light the tables at night making dining al fresco even more romantic. I was with my mom and aunts on a ladies trip...but I still think this would be a great date place. Now the food...so delightful. The white asparagus with a poached egg and mustard vinaigrette was a nice start. I had the Pork chop with a side of potatoes. Pork chop was huge, cooked well, and juicy. No dry pork here! (never an excuse for a bad pork chop). I would order this again. Also ordered at the table was the jumbo lump crab cake with a nice sauce. That was enjoyed. The three other ladies had the fish of the day dish, everyone was quite pleased. The desert was an apple tart with a vanilla gelato. Very satisfying end to the meal. So I really have to agree with all the other comments on the service. Absolutely appalling. Firstly we wait at the bar for 20 minutes for a drink, don't even get served but never mind our table is ready. Sit down, finally order our 3 glasses of wine. Wait another 20 minutes. Nothing. Eventually waitress comes over to say wine is on its way (ie she forgot). So 40 minutes in total to get a drink. She then asks what we'd like to eat, we then have to point out she hasn't given us any menus. We eventually order, food takes maybe 25 minutes. Food was ok, nothing special which is a shame given how nice the outside area is. Now all we wanted was some pepper. We ask for it, we get brought ketchup. We ask again. It never turns up. When they take our plates we ask for the bill. 20 minutes later the bill arrives. And guess what? Its not our bill. We inform a passing waiter. 20 minutes later nothing. Now the bill they have given us is half the value of ours so we think we'll be clever and pay this lesser amount assuming someone will then come and query it. Well another 10 minutes later we give up and leave having paid $60 for a $130 bill. So if you want a cheap meal apparently its the place to go! Got out of work early due to the holiday weekend and since I walk past this place every day on the way home, decided to finally try it for lunch. The outdoor area is lovely, reminds me of my vacation in Greece. The positives end about there... I put my name down for a table for two at 12:40pm and the hostess informed me that there was only one table of two ahead of me, so I should expect a table in no more than 15 minutes. At 1:00pm, I approach the hostess who apparantly could not remember me at all, despite the fact I had been standing less than 2 ft. from her for the past 20 minutes. After looking up my name on the list, she lets me know it will be another 15 minutes?? At 1:15, I ask again, and am told it will be just 15 more minutes. Lovely. Finally, at 1:25, after watching countless Eurotrash tourists and wannabe Real Housewives with saggy, botoxed overtanned skin and dark sunglasses grab tables, we were seated. Needless to say, after standing in the sun waiting for 45 minutes (their waiting area has no shade), we were parched and hot. We waited about 10 minutes for our server to appear and another 10 minutes for our iced teas and waters to arrive. Ridiculous! Even more ridiculous is that our food took another 30 minutes to arrive AFTER our drinks. I ordered the steamed mussels with fries and my lunch partner had the St. Bart's grilled sausage. The mussels were mediocre - small in size, 3 out of maybe 20 mussels weren't even open, and the broth had a strange flavor profile with a mix of fennel and orange that managed to taste bland, watery, and just strange. Service was slow from start to finish. The fries arrived almost 10 minutes after the rest of the meal and it took another 5 minutes to get ketchup for them. If anything, the bus boys walking by were more effective and helpful than the actual wait staff. We arrived at the restaurant at 12:40pm. We finally got the check around 2:50pm. This was supposed to be a quick lunch on my way home!! At check time, a mistake was found on our bill. The mussels were $19 on the menu, with the option of fries added for +$3. We were charged $22 (for the moules frites) plus an additional $7 for a side of fries?? After trying to explain to the waiter, who kept insisting that mussels were charged at the dinner price or some other nonsense, he brought us the menu to show us he was right. Too bad the menu just confirmed his incompetence... He finally had the bill corrected and we paid and prepared to leave. Lo' and behold, I realized that I sticky black paint ALL over my Bottega Veneta cream leather bag. Turns out that the iron gate at their entrance, which I had been leaning against for the 45 minute wait for a table, had apparently been PAINTED sometime that morning. The hostess just dumbly stood there when I brought this to her attention, and after watching me try to wipe off some of the paint with napkins, she finally offered me club soda and NAIL POLISH REMOVER (on leather?!) to try to remove the paint. No apologies were made, no explanations. When I advised her to put up a sign so no one else would accidentally get paint on them, she just shrugged and started chatting with her coworker. I will never come back here again and will advise all against it. It's really not worth the time or money. I'm one to return to places just for the food or just for the service, but at a place lacking both, you certainly won't find me. It's a shame that places who serve mediocre food and have terrible service can still manage to overcharge and make profit just based on a pretty outdoor setup. read more

Inside Park at St Barts is a little safe haven in the middle of the busiest part of midtown east on Park Avenue, and you'll appreciate the church bells at noon and the escape from all the hustle and bustle on the street. Under large cream colored umbrellas there are ample tables and you can sit here with a coworker during lunch in the summer and enjoy their summer spaghetti (which has a generous hefy portion of seafood) and a sangria. The bread is not warm and I haven't tried any of the other dishes, but my dining guest thanked me profusely for introducing her to this place. She told me it literally made her day to step away from the office and eat under the sun in such a surprisingly tranquil setting. I would recommend you try the spaghetti. They're open until 9 pm so this would also make a great happy hour location for your colleagues in the area. try it out . read more

The food is pretty good at Inside Park, but the atmosphere reigns supreme. I arrived on a recent weekday at noon to the sound of the church bells ringing. I made my way up the steps to the patio area next to the beautiful church. It feels like you've escaped the hustle and bustle of New York on the patio. I'd imagine at nighttime the atmosphere is even better, with twinkle lights surrounding the area. I highly recommend the fried calamari appetizer. Don't be fooled by the menu descriptions of "Thai basil" and "sriracha mayo" - it's not too spicy. The flavors are balanced by the delicious coconut topping and the dish was perfectly crispy as well. Generous portion - it could easily be shared by 3 or 4 people. For my main course I went with the burger and it didn't disappoint. Classic NY burger fare with a nice cheddar cheese on top. Again, generous portion. It's a bit pricy here and the food isn't top-notch, but the atmosphere more than makes this worth a trip. read more

I was deeply disappointed with this place. My family and I were on a tight schedule and we told the waitress so. We asked whether or not the service was quick and she assured us that it was. We had also asked the waitress early on if we could pay the bill in advance so that we could leave as soon as we were done with our meal. 45 minutes later and an empty bread basket we were anxiously waiting for food that we had paid for. When we finally caught the waitress' attention and expressed our annoyance, she immediately became flustered and called over her manager. The manager insisted that he would remedy the problem and would personally supervise the making of our food. We sat for another 7 minutes when, at last, our food came. My family and I were excited at the prospect of finally being able to eat when our spirits further plummeted when we examined the quality of the food. The fish tacos were okay but overpriced. The cuban sandwich was inconsistent temperature-wise and the fries were not completely cooked. The burger that was supposed to be medium rare was dry. In short, we not only missed our next engagement, but my family and I spent the latter part of our day with terrible stomach aches of badly prepared food. read more
