A fellow Yelp reviewer recommended this coffee shop on one of his reviews so on our most recent trip to Cannon Beach we paid a visit here. Perhaps it's because of the day and there was a lot of rain but almost everywhere we went in Cannon Beach was busy and crowded and this coffee shop was no exception at all. We placed and took our order and ran back to the car because there was no seating. But the quality of the drinks and snack we had was very good. We both got an excellent hot chai latte to warm up with in the car. It was more of a spicy chai and not a sweet one and that's how I prefer it. The cookie we had was fresh and tasty as well! We also bought a bag of coffee from here as well to enjoy at home and that too was a good experience. Definitely a good coffee shop to keep in mind. Californian here Came right when it opened and it was like waiting in a Black Friday line. Was out the door but they only have like 2 or 3 people in line inside. Their food is all fresh! And yummy. We got a jalapeño thing and the cinnamon cake sooo good. We got the zebra mocha and it was delicious. We even got some of the whole beans even though their drip system was down so we couldn't try it. I'm all for taking breaks at work, but at that point you should put a sign to say you're out to lunch and not one saying you're taking "a short break". I love the ambiance of insomnia. It's my favorite cafe in CB to hang out at. The drinks are also on the fun side (lavender lattes etc). Based on that alone, 5*. However, the line or order is crazy. We arrived and the line was maybe.... 20 people deep. It was outside but still on the outside deck. We thought it would take maybe 15-20 minutes since most of the people waiting were in groups of 2-4. It took 45-1 hr! After placing our order it took a full 15 minutes for our 2 lattes to be made. Came here 5 years ago and am so happy it's still a staple in town. Got us a matching mug to the one I bought in 2015! Covid has been weird for all of us and I think it definitely throws off the normal balance. Waiting in a line outside just feels longer than normal. But what even is normal anymore? Despite all the extra restrictions and wait, the staff were very friendly and focused on getting orders out the door. The Americano I ordered was one of the best I've ever had - absolutely delicious. The service was atrocious! Two lackadaisical employees spent more time chatting than working, which is likely why my order wasn't made correctly the first time and took a long time to make. The other drink in our order also took a couple of attempts. Both were drinks on the menu - one had extra syrups/flavoring. I don't mind waiting if it's busy or a cafe is short staffed. But this wasn't the case when we visited. We drove out of our way because of the rating - wouldn't go out of my way again to buy from this cafe or it's other locations. read more

Not too many coffee choices in town, but this and Sleepy Monk are among the most popular. Their lattes are just ok, but I may have ruined mine by trying to add in coconut flavored syrup. However I do feel like they specialize in mochas, but I'm assuming partly because it's in larger writing on their menu. The white chocolate mocha was made well, with enough flavor without being overly sweet (like how Starbucks would normally do). They don't have many baked goods either as I didn't think they'd be nearly sold out showing up around 9:00 AM. The shop is small so there aren't too many seats inside. Favorite place for coffee at Cannon Beach. They are always consistent and friendly here. We enjoy the Tanasbourne location back home and it is good to see that from all their locations that they all operate with the same great attitude. Not the in your face how is your day and get I to my life best friend employees that you get at other places. Right next to the beach so easy to make your way back for another cup. I appreciate finding an open coffee cafe on a drizzly Pacific NW morning. The barrista made sure our drinks were well made. Why only 3 stars then? The lack of attention to customer service otherwise. I fully understand the need for COVID restrictions. And yet, we experienced no willingness to accommodate new customers in the door, such as ourselves, who wanted to sit inside and enjoy our morning beverages. For instance, there was a party of 3 taking up 2 sitting areas. Why not ask them to sit together? Or post a sign stating your seating is currently limited so please not sit for hours with your laptops. Also, why not offer towels to us so that we could dry seats outside? I have been an owner/operator of a cafe since 1982. We have worked within pandemic restrictions ourselves. However, one thing we did our best to not sacrifice was the comfort of our guests. There are 3 components of a dining/drinking experience: product; environment; and customer service. You've nailed the first 2. If I'm in Cannon Beach again, I'll return to see if you've worked on the 3rd. read more

Best coffee and pastries, especially the scones and lemon blueberry coconut milk coffee cake, in Cannon Beach, imho! (get there early as they go fast!) My husband always gets their Real Caramel Latte and I switch between the Aztec Mocha and their Chai Latte...both excellent! Staff were all very cordial and we noticed shorter wait times this time around compared to prior trips(including pre covid visits). read more

On the way to Cannon Beach we decided to check this place out & I'm so happy we did. They have many options on their menu to choose from if you have dietary restrictions such as a dairy like myself. Had a decent cup of the aztec mocha here on a moderately crowded Saturday afternoon. COVID precautions were in full force, and in ordinary times the shop screams cute with some local goods for purchase. However, the aztec mocha was nothing spectacular and a bit pricey (~$5.50 for a medium). It wasn't warm when I got it, and the flavor beyond being slightly sweet was unremarkable. A very welcoming, warm space to relax in the beach atmosphere of Cannon Beach just a block up from the Ocean. The Barista's are very friendly and accommodating. As well as many beverages and a few food offerings they have some great merch. I love the Insomnia T with VW bus pictured. I purchased a tiny tin with some delightful smelling loose leaf tea for a gift, an Insomnia sticker for myself. Let me say the other two coffee places I wanted to try were closed the days I tried them so Insomnia got out groups business two days in a row. The first day I had a Oat Milk Latte which was perfect. After I had ordered that first day I saw the option of an Aztec Mocha. So the second day I asked if I could get at Aztec Americano and they promptly said yes. Day 3 in Cannon Beach starts with another coffee shop. For such a small place, Cannon Beach does like its coffee. Comparing this to Sleepy Monk and Sea Level, I enjoyed the coffee here just as much as Sleepy Monk (Sea Level is a step behind in coffee taste), but my partner loved the blueberry scone she got, and I loved the garlic cheese pastry I got. So I rate Insomnia ahead of Sleepy Monk in the pastry dept. and on par with Sea Level. In terms of ambience, Insomnia is close to the beach (duh), and has plenty of social distancing space, plus a nice flow to the process of getting your coffee fix. I like this over both Sleepy Monk and Sea Level. Service is awesome, just like everywhere else here. It's a place we will return to! read more
