I've been hesitant to write this review because Mahin (the owner) seems like such a nice person, but I'll just have to lay the facts out there about my experience so that you can decide for yourself. I've had many services here, including the hammam spa treatment, facials, and body wraps. Everything has been fine except for the facials. Regarding the facials: I've had problem skin that I was managing OK by myself, but I wanted better skin in preparation for my wedding. Mahin told me that the products I was using were too harsh on my skin and that if I got facials with her and used the products she recommended, my skin would become awesome. She mentioned previous clients whose skin she has turned around because these clients followed Mahin's regimen. Well, I was curious so I decided to try it. She seemed so nice and so genuine, so convinced she could help my skin. After 4-5 months of facials twice a month & following her skincare product regimen carefully, my face was worse than it started out. Acne, scarring, etc. By then, it was 2 months before the wedding... that's when I finally quit Mahin. Too late, though -- with all that acne and scarring, I needed a really thick spackle-job of makeup to cover it all up on the wedding day. So, fair warning. Maybe Mahin's expensive facials-and-products regimen works for some people, but it certainly didn't work for me after months of trying it and a lot of money down the drain. read more

I just returned from the Inspiration Day Spa in Menlo Park. :) I am Extremely happy with my facial. It was the best facial that I have had in a long time. I can see immediate results. In fact, the entire time I was getting the facial, I was thinking about booking my next facial. It was That Good. Not only did she include dermabrasion, I got several masks, extractions and a long neck foot and hand massage. I noticed other regular customers coming in after me who had Gorgeous Skin. I can't wait to become a regular client and finally get my moneys worth. The bottom line is we want results right? We want to look younger and have the fresh glow to our skin. Just so you know, I have many years experience getting facials. I spent the big bucks for the best facials in SF, NY, Las Vegas, New Orleans, Maui, Miami ect.. For many years I drove to Union Square for my facials. In fact, 77 Maiden Lane was one that I frequented. I also lived in Manhatten and spent $$$ getting facials at the Bliss Salon and then the Four Seasons. I have had facials at the Ritz Carlton and many luxury spas when on vacation. After moving back from NY, I decided to try the Elite Spa in San Mateo. It was rated high by Yelpers. I was very disappointed with the results. (There was no dermabrasion and my skin broke out a few days later! It cost 175.00 by the way.) I am sick of wasting my money on the trendy day spas that offer a 1 hour facials that are exactly 50 minutes. I refuse to go to large spas where I might get just anyone. I am tired of painful extractions and breakouts after the facial. Mahin is like a Doctor when it comes to facials. I don't know any other way to say it but she is who I have been looking for. I booked an appointment this provider and had a pricey consultation. I then booked another appointment for a facial and massage. I had called and cancelled my appointment well in advance because I just didn't get a good impression of the provider Mahin Shafal or her products. I then began to receive many, many manic telephone calls from Mahin. Probably by the 5th continuous telephone call she became more manic and abusive on the telephone. I had a horrible experience at this salon. I decided to take myself and my mom to this spa for Mother's Day. We asked for the Inspirational Facial and instead we got to less than mediocre facial cleansing. It was supposed to be a combination of face and back treatment as well as hand and feet massage. After waiting 30 minutes in the lobby, even though we had an appointment, the facialist finally took us to the back. She was going to do both of our facials at the same time. There was no treatment beyond my chin, which means no back treatment at all. The wash cloths that she used were cold instead of warm. She said that she was giving a certain treatment for free which in reality came with the facial. The so called hand and foot massage was nothing more than applying oil on the arms and then placing a wet rag on the feet. No massaging at all. The total time for both of our facials was one hour. But each of us only saw her for 20 minutes. From personal experience I have never had a facialist do another person at the same time and usually it takes a hour, if not more, for a good facial. When I left the room i was hoping to hear from my Mom that she had a better experience than I did, but she did not. Which was sad since this was her gift for Mother's Day. I have gotten facials since I was 16 years old and I can say that this was the worst facial have ever gotten. A $40 facial from some small nail place was better then the facials my Mom and I received and we paid $150 each. Also they had a Mother's Special which was 25% off that they would not give us because I was paying with a gift card. I do not recommend this facialist. However, the atmosphere of the spa was very relaxing. It is too bad that we were not able to dress in the dressing/ robe room and then able to go to the relaxing room prior to the facial. I schedule an appointment for a massage. My appointment was scheduled for 11:45 a.m. The receptionist asked me to have a seat. I did thinking maybe I only had a 10 - 15 minute wait. The receptionist did not tell me, "HEY WE DOUBLE BOOKED YOUR APPOINTMENT WITH ANOTHER CLIENT" they just had me waiting ONE HOUR. I didn't make a fuss because I wanted the massage to be relaxing. After a couple of days I thought I would call to find out why I waited ONE HOUR. She said...."What do you want me to say, it was a mistake." She proceeded to laugh at me as if she did not think I was going to YELP about this experience. I would not be writing had she just said sorry. I WILL NOT BE BACK!! IDS is a prime example for a spa missing the point. The place itself is beautiful and has a lot of potential but the atmosphere is ruined by the long wait and frazzled owner. I am bewildered as to why such long wait periods as there did not seem to be many clients. The services are definitely overpriced and she attaches extras with out even asking! My visit let me feeling neglected and my wallet felt raped. I came in for a facial and sat in the lobby for 25 minutes only to sit in the treatment room for another 20 minutes. Don't schedule anything important for at least a few hours. When she finally came in she put the steam machine on me and I was there for a whole 40 minutes! I have had many facials here and in LA and this is unheard of. When she came back in the room she offered a flimsy excuse that felt ingenuous. She went on to blab about her employees for the entire time she was working on me. Hello? I am not her therapist. I am here for a service to alleviate my stress, not help her with hers. While my face did feel softer afterward, I am not sure that I could not have achieved that at home or if it was worth the frustration. Not to mention high price I had to pay with time and price. When I got to the counter she had overpriced products lined up followed with a sales pitch. A couple of the items I had bought before (Yonka) and comparatively much more expensive at IDS. Worst massage of my life! I have had hundreds of massages and this was hands down the worst. The masseuse has obviously had VERY little training - she only knew a few movements and repeated them over and over for an hour. It was not even relaxing. This was the worst facial I have ever received. "Mahin" tried to "SELL" me more facials, products etc. during my WHOLE facial. It was annoying, rude and certainly not relaxing. When I told her I was using a skincare line prescribed by my dermatologist she told me "Doctors" know nothing about skin. I came in on a Groupon and asked for that service. While I was getting my facial she tried to "upsell" me to a more expensive facial or a series of facials. I clearly told her "no thanks". When it came to paying my bill at the end of this most unpleasant experience, the receptionist said I owed $318.00 and I could use my Groupon at another time !!!!! I live very far from this in-mall (questionable quality) spa and received a pricey gift certificate for their services from a boyfriend who didn't know any better. I've never had an intention to go here and called to request a redemption to my gift card. Wonderful in every way. My boyfriend bought me a massage gift certificate for christmas. My massage therapist - Zina - was lovely and attentive. My massage was delivered perfectly as she discussed my desires prior to the treatment. (Note: I am not new to massage therapy). I have a funny feeling regardless of me writing this review it's going to get filtered... I'd like anyone who isn't just giving this website a cursory glance to check out the fact that all the great reviews of this place are filtered. Today I went to Mahim for my second facial. I went to her first using a Groupon I bought awhile ago, and had an extremely good experience! I am inherently curious about skin and skincare. Why would you pay a ton of money to not know what a professional thinks you should do to take care of after you leave the salon? Or do you simply not think about it and pay someone else to? I feel like that is the unique benefit of coming to see Mahim, you learn something about your skin and how to treat it, independent of her products. I had a clarifying facial and the microphototherapy treatment the first time. Evidence to the fact that Mahim was not trying to sell me something was the fact that she told me the microphototherapy was pretty unnecessary for what I wanted out of the facial, and urged me if I have access to a medispa (which I do back home), I should just get Laser therapy instead of paying her money to do it! I had such a great experience, not a single zit or breakout which is common for me after facials, that I booked an appointment for a week before my wedding so that my skin would be clear in time. She did a great job addressing my problem areas, and sent me packing with some samples to use the day of the wedding and two days before. The reason I am only giving this place four stars is the prices were a little high for me as I'm a graduate student in biology, but for my wedding I was willing to go to the best, and will try in the future to work with Mahim for treatments that are within my budget. I'd like to point out that Mahim is a real person with expert knowledge...she isn't just some service person to push on your face. That's probably why she tried to start a conversation with you. I was sent 3 text messages and an email confirming my appointment and the doctor was in Tracy. No phone call to cancel, no heads up and not even an explanation was given. My experience at Inspiration Day Spa was fantastic. First, I was organizing a baby-showing which included 6 friends. We had a firm Sunday date, which was fast approaching, and only a few spas that could accommodate a pre-natal massage. I haven't been to Inspiration before but I knew a massage therapist who had worked there p/t and I knew she was very good. I called up 10 days before our shower date and found out they indeed do certified pre-natal massages, boast of a spacious 5,000 sq.foot full service spa and salon but weren't open on Sundays. What happened next was more than I could have hoped for. Mahin (owner) quickly arranged to open on Sunday for our party and treated us to a light snack and beverage. We were encouraged to share their traditional Hammam Roman bath as a group: and so glad we did. It was a great way to have a body scrub and milk bath all the while being together and catching up with each other. Afterwards we all enjoyed mani/pedi's in their private room (not that we needed it since we were the only ones there) and our "mother of honor" had a relaxing pre-natal massage she'll never forget, so she bragged. I've never been treated so rudely. My daughter scheduled a massage for us to have a nice day together. She had trouble scheduling the appt, Mahin didn't seem to understand that we wanted to have our massages at the same time. My daughter asked if she had 2 massage therapists. Mahin laughed. It got down to -"we want to begin our massage together, and leave together". So we showed up, and they had booked only one of us!! So now we are looking at each other shaking our heads. Mahin starts getting louder and louder - saying it was a mistake. The massage therapist tries to calm her down, but Mahin wouldn't have it, and tells us - "GET OUT!!" (are you KIDDING ME!!??) We felt assaulted by Mahin. She obviously has some SERIOUS ISSUES happening. The bad thing is we purchased our massage through Groupon, and it may take a while to get reimbursed. The massage was scheduled a month out...hmm? We arrived yesterday for our massages and I cant say that I'm shocked, they only had one massage scheduled!!! I was not happy and the owner of the spa started giving us attitude rather than apologizing...she was completely unprofessional and went on to say "I've been in business for 15 years blah blah..."GET OUT!" I can't fathom being in business for 15 years and not having a confirmation call the day prior, every other establishment calls to confirm whether it's dentist, hair appointment, facial...etc. everyone calls to confirm!! anywho, I strongly suggest not wasting your money. I am so disappointed with this spa that I feel the need to write a review to caution other fellow spa-goers about this place. When I first walked in, I thought this place had a lot of potential, but soon found out that the staff here are DISORGANIZED AND RUDE. I purchased a 60 minute massage deal off of Groupon, left a message to schedule an appointment. They didn't call back the first time. I called them again, left another message, got a call back after 2 days and scheduled my appointment for a Tuesday afternoon. I got a call the Monday before to reschedule because the massage therapist was sick (which is fine, understandable), so I rescheduled to Thursday afternoon. I left work early, drove to the spa on Thursday looking forward to an hour of relaxation but instead, the front desk lady looked confused and asked me to take a seat. 20 MINUTES LATER, another lady comes out to tell me that she thought she had called me "yesterday or the day before" to reschedule. I said "no, you called me on Monday and we rescheduled to today". We went back and forth for awhile because she didn't think she scheduled me for that time but then she admitted that she made a mistake. She was frazzled (as another reviewer put it accurately) and said that I would have to reschedule again! First of all, why did they have me wait 20 minutes to tell me there was a mistake? Second, had the lady been nice about it and offered me something small to make up for HER mistake, it wouldn't have been so disappointing. Instead, she was just rude and showed lack of care for her clients. From reading other reviews, it seems like this place makes a lot of mistakes similar to what I experienced. I've been to many spas over the years and have never experienced such horrible customer service. Hopefully I'll be able to get my money back from Groupon. This place is mediocre in all respects. The facials are good, but you have to listen to the esthetician lecture you on skincare throughout the facial, and then have to call on every ounce of your resolve as she tries to sell you expensive products after you finish. The massages are fine, but not spectacular. The ambiance is a bit dingy and the wall murals depicting Italian landscapes are cheesy, but the robes are comfy. I purchased an Inspiration Signature Facial and Waxing package including gratuity from their on-line website for my daughter-in-law for her birthday. They were offering an on-line special on the Facial discounting the price of the package by $57. The prepaid gift certificate package was sent to my daughter-in-law via email which she printed out and took to the spa. After using the gift certificate for the services which I paid for, she was charged an additional $40. I am outraged by the dishonesty of this company. Terrible services. Dr. Blum said he can only administer Dysport instead of Botox, but that the results are the same when Dysport units are doubled in comparison to Botox. Nevertheless, the treatment did not work. He refused to refund or administer more units. In addition I was charged twice and had to fight to make them realize the double charge was incorrect. Once I contacted them through email I got a very quick and courteous response. They scheduled me for the next day (a Saturday). First and foremost, I had an amazing massage. One of my best! I didn't love the location of the spa for two reasons, it's in a Safeway shopping center and the actual spa shares an entrance with a busy/loud hair salon. So it wasn't the spa experience I was expecting at first glance. Additionally the spa side didn't have a recepetionist working the desk and the hair salon receptionist said to just sit down and wait. I left this spa feeling relaxed and satisfied. What an amazing place. I bought a package for an hour massage and an hour facial. I started with the massage and the therapist that I got was very attentive and made sure that I was comfortable, warm, if the pressure was enough. She was wonderful and very professional and added used hot stones at no extra cost. I was so comfortable that I was able to relax and quiet my mind. So rare. After this was done I went to the next room and Mahin (owner) came in and knew exactly what my skin needed and my skin never felt so soft. I have gone to many other spas that are over the top fancy and it doesn't come close to the experience I had here. Bought a Groupon for this place and despite giving them multiple days and times that I would be available, they could not schedule me for a facial on ANY of the days. I told them I had 1.5 months to use my Groupon... and the only availability they had was 2 months later! How is that possible?! Are you so popular or so short staffed that it would take TWO MONTHS for me to get a basic facial? In addition, I had to call them about 3 times to get anyone to answer the phone. read more

This spa is set in a convenient location and the spa itself is amazing. I got my hair done by Danielle who is great with hair. I enjoyed the services I got and the customer service there is outstanding. I love how it is a full service salon and offers spa treatments to nails. I enjoyed the atmosphere and setting as well. I came on Yelp to write a nice review about a facial I had today. I don't write many reviews but because my skin looks fantastic and I felt so good that I decided it would give my inside a glow too by writing something nice and about my pleasant experience. But when I got on Yelp I was taken aback!!! WOW. I have never, in all my search for business reviews on Yelp, come across such UGLINESS and NEGATIVITY in reviews. My first thought was that someone is clearly out to get them for some reason because I can't imagine people writing these things about the place I had experienced for the first time today. My second thought was, why doesn't Yelp do something about this??? I found it disturbing and now I question the usefulness of Yelp to see such damaging reviews. So despite all of these ugly reviews I'm going to continue on with my own. I arrived on time and found the spa interior to be lovely and smelled amazing. I requested the Oxygen Facial, which Mahin performed. It became apparent to me immediately that she was not only very knowledgeable about skin, but extremely passionate about what she does. She did one side of my face first so that she could show me the difference after treatment. WOW! I could see a difference after once treatment! She proceeded to do the other half of my face and applied special gel eye and facial moisturizers to my skin. The final results were fantastic! I'm sitting her with my skin aglow and feeling good. The only reason I didn't give the spa 5 stars is not that big of a big deal, but the receptionist didn't offer me water before or after my treatment, which I am accustomed to in other spas. I also had a little bit of a hard time understanding her when she was directing me on where to go - but I suspect she may have been new - but very sweet. read more

I first came here for a Groupon massage, which was wonderful, and then I found out that they were having specials on microdermabrasion. I have pretty terrible, oily acne-ridden skin, so I decided to give it a run. Mahin is absolutely wonderful, one of the sweetest people you'll ever meet. From the beginning she treated me like a long-time customer, giving me services that she said my skin needed even though I had paid for cheaper ones. She will give you great deals, which is super nice because I'm on a law school budget. The facials sting like crazy sometimes, but I'm used to it and I know it's good for me. Regardless, they're still quite relaxing and I really enjoy coming here. Overall, 4.5 stars. This place is great, but the products can be rather expensive, and I'm still having some skin problems. She warned me it would be 8 or 9 months to be clear, though, and it's only been 4 so far, so I'm going to keep trying . . . read more

To start I have to say that I do not like anyone to touch my face but with Mahin it is the exception. She has golden hands. She has been taking care of me for 3 years and she has been fabulous. People around me have noticed the difference in my skin without telling them anything. She is kind, caring and she will give you the best treatment for you. My friend and I came here for the Hammam, and both of us coming from the Middle East, we know our Hammams. This was as authentic as it gets. Mihan is a wonderfully mannered person with such positive energy. She made us feel really comfortable. The bathrooms and changing areas were clean and professional. The decor is relaxing and beautiful... The service itself was phenomenal! We sat in a steamy huge marble room with 3 shower heads and beautiful decor- we sat in the steam for about 15 minutes then she came to scrub us down- all over with some authentic looking and smelling rhassoul (like soap) The outcome was incredible- not only were we squeaky clean, I sweat do much I could swear my fingers were less puffy and circulation in my legs was energizing (from the scrubbing). Afterwards, Mahin brought us some delicious fresh chilled honeydew as we relaxed in the gorgeous lounge... heavenly! My body will be thanking me for a long time. I discovered Inspiration Day Spa 6-7 months ago and have been very pleased with the results. I have been getting regular facials for many years now but having just turned 50 I've begun noticing changes in my skin along with the fact that it was not responding as well to the regimen I had been using for so long. I was really looking for someone who was well versed in all skin types especially skin that is beginning to age (believe it or not, many estheticians are not skilled in this department!). Mahin has been a treasure. Almost immediately, I noticed a change in my skin; more even skin tone, clearer complexion and a healthy glow. Like the reviewer on 1/16/15, I too have been using the DNA line. Love it! I would highly recommend Mahin and Inspiration Day Spa -- I have enjoyed 4 facials in the past 6-7 months and hands down, my skin has never looked better. Mahin knows her business!! read more

Do not buy the packages for skin care because she'll cancel appointments regularly. My child has been going to her for acne treatments and her treatments do work very well and her products are very good, but she is frequently double booking and when we show up it's always the same excuse "I don't have you in my calendar." This excuse worked once, but now it's happened 6 times. No one is that forgetful. Even calling to confirm the day before doesn't work. You have to pay for the packages up front, so she has your money, but then if a rich client calls to book an expensive treatment for the time you have already booked, your name gets erased and you don't find out until you show up. read more

I purchased a facial treatment from FreshGuide. When I called to schedule an appointment nobody took my call and my message was returned only on the next day. I was told that cancellation policy is 48hours otherwise I will loose my FreshGuide purchase. Then I have seen 24hours on their web site. Mahin the owner was doing a facial treatment for me. So I asked for oxygen facial, not sure if i got the one. She turned on stream for 10 minutes. It was very hot and unpleasant. I was turning out my face. She left a room, so I could no call her. I have been in different spa and everywhere I was given a shoulder and neck/head massage while under the steam. So for 10 minutes I was alone. She did extraction, and put a mask. That is it. No massage, arm, neck, shoulders at all. After words, when I cam home, I still have full pimples, big and I had to squeeze them myself. Also the whole treatment I was listening her " advertising" about her products and treatments. She spoke very loud and I wasn't relaxed at all. I had to listen her for an hour! She was promising me to give me some samples to try at home and I asked to give me all the information about the products after the facial, but she said, that she will give me samples next time I will come for treatment and she will tell me about their products. This place really isn't set up for pedicures. The chair was uncomfortable (I'm used to the massage chairs) and the basin was a round marble bowl (again, uncomfortable). I would never go there again. read more
