I purchased a set of ten dining room chairs from INspiration. Each chair cost about $150. After just about a month of light usage, the exterior of the chairs started to crack and peel off. Over the next two months this continued on nearly all of the ten chairs. Several of the chairs were so badly damaged that they could no longer be used. I've uploaded a number of photos of these chairs, so you can see the damage. I contact INspiration several times and dealt with a series of rude representatives from the company. Despite being less than a year old and still under warranty, INspiration refused to replace them.my chairs. I am now stuck with $1,500 in worthless dining chairs and am writing this to prevent other potential customers from purchasing their furniture from INspiration. AVOID INspiration. This place SUCKS! I would give them minus five stars if I could. I will list the problems I have with this place. 1) They indicate that it will take a month for them to deliver your purchase. We found out they make deliveries only 3 days a week. If they are that behind, don't you think they should increase the number of days that they make deliveries? 2) Their customer service/sales people are unfriendly and unhelpful. They are extremely snobby! We had a question regarding a purchase and never got a straight answer. It seems like they are trained to give you the run around so they do not have to actually provide you with the assistance you need. They give you the line "someone will call you" just so they could blow you off. Do you ever receive that call? Of course not!!! AS IF! Is that how they run a business?? This place definitely does NOT believe that a "customer comes first". 3) Their products are overpriced and they are of very low quality. I understand if you sell a high quality product at a high price. You get what you pay for right? You won't get what you pay for here. You will get a product worth half of what you paid for, if you are lucky. This place kind of reminds me of a store called "Bombay". This place will probably end up in the same place as Bombay. Update: I have to give kudos where kudos are due. Shortly after writing my review on Inspirations, I was contacted by the business manager who wrote me a kind note apologizing for my unsatisfactory experience. He also thanked me for taking the time to write about my experience and asked me to contact the general manager (if I didn't mind) so he could hear more about my experience. To be honest, I was surprised that a company as large as Inspirations took the time to read the review and then went the extra mile and reached out to me to apologize. I did contact the general manager Scott, who was very sincere and apologetic. He told me my experience at Inspirations was unacceptable and that he would put the proper training tools in place to make sure that every customer who walks thru their doors don't feel as I did that day. He thanked me for taking the time to review Inspirations and told me if I decided to give them another chance that I could go directly to him. He was very pleasant. My interaction with the business manager and with the general manager made me think that perhaps big companies don't just sweep things under the rug. I only spent $129 in their store but they treated me the same as if I spent $12,000. It made me feel that customer service is a top priority to them and I appreciate them reaching out to me. To Irwin the business manager, and Scott the general manager, I thank you for taking the time to rectify my bad experience and making it into a better one. This is our second time dealing with Inspiration and it is NOT inspirational! In 2005, we bought $25,000 from them and when one of the bed broke they were less than helpful. We just bought another wardrobe today. The delivery will be SEPTEMBER 15. We found faster delivery and better price at Walmart. When we called to cancel the order, Mai Tran the salesperson said she cannot give my money back. It takes another manager to approve. My husband and I got done coaching basketball, so we were in gym attire lookin a hot mess to say the least. We were downtown finishing up some errands and decided to check this place out since we need a new living room set up. Upon walking in, we were given stares by all the employees. I know appearance and first impressions really motivate people to engage in conversation but had someone just asked, we would tell them why we looked so scrubby. We started on the 3rd floor and worked our way down, we encountered a lot of employees but not ONE, NOT ONE PERSON even came to say hello or offer help to us. Finally one very young woman noticed we were interested in a sectional and came to offer help. She was the only exception even the guy at the counter after asking about delivery dates was not giving me any attention. This place gets the 2 stars only because we like their modern contemporary and minimalist furniture. Its right up our alley as far as taste and we really love that. Not all their stuff is quality though, I would venture to say its the same as ikea, but more expensive. With such limited selection in Hawaii, this is one of your best bets to getting contemporary furniture. read more

How come I have not written a review yet for this place? I remember clearly when it opened- and we were all like WOW! Such a huge space for a 1 of a kind kind of store here in HI. We were totally impressed with the cafe in the lobby type area at first blanch and wanted to browse and browse even though we didn't need any furniture at the time. I had 2 different workshops/ presentations in the 'classroom area' where I would never had guessed that they would have space for that kind of thing - but then again- the place is huge! Our 'classes' were spot on regarding business and what better kind of place than a place where thinking big is the idea. For my workplace we ordered furniture (normal kinda bookcases things) and had them delivered. Not as happy as we could have been about the delivery - but it wasn't my dime, I was just the peon that ordered and had to make sure it arrived and was all accounted for or I'd hear about it later. TERRIBLE delivery service!! They told me my furniture would be delivered on 12/15 and then they rescheduled it to 12/17 without giving me notice! My furniture was supposed to arrive between 1-4pm but they came at 4:45pm! I was not able to get my furniture moved in because they do not allow moving in my building after 4:30pm! Even the delivery guys said they knew that the elevator close time was 4:30! I am very very disappointed in Inspiration and do not recommend anyone to shop here. The only reason we shop at Inspiration is because it's the only furniture store in Hawaii that sells modern, non-beach inspired furniture at somewhat affordable prices. You can find modern furniture elsewhere in Hawaii (Design Within Reach, Fishcake, Mesh, etc) but at boutique prices. Inspiration definitely has the LARGEST collection of modern furniture anywhere in the islands. Some of the furniture at Inspiration resembles IKEA type quality at twice the price (particle board based wood frames, etc) They do have a lot of really nice furniture too, but also very $$$. The only time I shop here is when they have special sales (they've had two in the past 5 months) where you can get furniture for up to 25% off...sometimes more, if they are selling floor models) In general, the salespeople here are indifferent and snooty. read more

Crappy products even crappier customer service I purchased a bed from inspiration a few months ago and have had nothing but issues. Initially the wrong bed parts/sizes were given to me. Eventually they delivered the right bed and even their installers could not put it together quite right and wrote that on the installation papers. The bed has now broken. I went in the store to try to resolve it and was simply given an email address. I have emailed them multiple times and they do not even respond. The bed is worth maybe 1/4 what I paid for it. I visited this store out of sheer desperation and stupid curiosity. My cheap, crappy, wood laminate bedframe that I had purchased against my better judgment at the Pearlridge Inspiration months before was not lying flush against my bedroom floor AND was leaking gooey sap all over my sweaters in the storage drawers from the unfinished pine slats, so I called up the store to return it. To my surprise, they not only accepted the return, but Peter, the owner, called me up to apologize and invite me to look for replacements at the new location. That weekend, my boyfriend and I paid a visit. We walked through the front doors a few minutes before opening. A receptionist was at the desk, but did not greet us. We wanted to sit in the cafe until we were sure the store was open, but the odd metal barstools hurt our butts, so we started walking around. Most of the salespeople were very nice, but when we went to the second floor, an older Asian woman latched herself onto us and started asking annoying questions. The conversation went like this: Woman: Can I help you? Me: I'm looking for a full sized wooden bedframe. Woman: Is this for a full sized bed? Me: Uh . . . yes. Woman: Do you HAVE a full sized bed? Me: (shifting uncomfortably) Uh . . . yes. Woman: So you want a FULL sized frame? Me: (eyes widening in disbelief) Yessss. This conversation actually repeated itself a few more times before my boyfriend and I got smart and ducked behind a large sofa until she went away. Yes, we actually hid like little children because that seemed to be the only means of escape. What I noticed about this store was that it was large and carried a lot of merchandise, but it was very overpriced for the quality. The bookshelves, dressers, bedframes, wardrobes, and the like are made from particleboard rather than actual wood, so they don't last long and are not as strong. The bedframes all come with unfinished pine slats on the bottom; mine leaked sap all over my floor, storage drawer, and cashmere sweaters and the sap was very difficult to clean off. This is furniture I would use for a dorm room, guest room, or the room of someone I didn't much care for. Although this store was designed as a gathering place, with a cafe, restaurant, and wine bar, my boyfriend and I decided upon exiting that we would not be going back. What sealed the deal was that we both hugely tripped on the gigantic area rug at the exit, which propelled us out the door much faster than we anticipated. We figured that was a sign. read more

Dad was looking for a new leather sectional...I had nothing better to do so I chauffeured. While I LOVEEEEE the wine bar, I have to say I don't have the same feelings for the furniture side of the design center. The thing that really annoyed me was the sales lady who kept following us around. She was sooo pushy and irritating!!! She kept asking what I liked and I kept telling her it was for my parents house, not mine. She even commented on how cute my dad was. Lady, telling ME my dad is cute won't help you sell HIM a couch! I've gotten discounts on my bedroom set and even discounts on single pieces. Like all furniture stores you have to ask what things are made of... and ask for quality pieces that will last (i.e. solid wood, better grade leather...) Creating a new home is an exciting process, and it is imperative to work with a decorator who gets you, even if that means working with someone you just met. That being said, consider your options before being pressured into buying with urgency due to pricing and inventory. Chances are you have the upper hand as the consumer whose business needs to be earned. Several sales associates provided quotes during my frequent visits to Inspiration, yet I ultimately did not buy anything from my new home here. Sure, I missed the Fourth of July mega sale, but even 'low' prices seem like a premium to pay for the quality of furniture. Somehow, I feel the price exceeds the durability of the furniture. One of my rooms was decorated in the Natuzzi line from Inspiration, which was a joy to look at. The modern aesthetic and glossy finish gave the wood a look which made me feel like I was on the set of an Uomo Japan fashion spread. Nonetheless, humidity brings out the flaw in the furniture's design and metal separated from wood in several places. The warranty didn't cover the furniture for this sort of wear and tear, although it didn't take long for the pieces to come apart. With a simple purchase of Gorilla Glue, I was able to secure the pieces back, but not with the same craftsmanship as a professional. Believe me, there is a right way to glue furniture pieces. I would recommend speaking with Kerry if you're considering design ideas. He is willing to work on sketches with you, and is prompt with email and text correspondence. Do your research and take as much time as you need to reflect upon your final furniture choices. Ask around the show room for pricing because there were several instances in which a lower price was offered. Delivery can take longer than competitors, which can be a deal breaker if you're hoping to move in by a certain date. The delivery fee can be double what other furniture stores charge, so be aware of this as you consider alternatives, such as a private moving company, or perhaps even picking up furniture directly from the warehouse. read more

I really want to like Inspiration Furniture because they offer one of the better selections when it comes to furniture shopping in Honolulu/Hawaii. For that reason alone, they get three stars. I've come to visit and purchase items a few times now and I have to say the sales staff are very rude and in-attentive if you aren't over 40. I've gone with two of my friends to purchase some items for my bedroom and ended up leaving after speaking to a salesperson for only 5 minutes. They immediately became arrogant as soon as I said I wanted a full-sized bed. Note, I have a smaller bedroom and know what I want. Even after I went to great legnths to explain my style and what I was looking for size wize, they didn't understand and kept trying to make me purchase the most expensive items there which didn't fit my style. On another time, I took my mom to buy new dining room chairs. Lo and behold service came really quickly! Although, we ended up having to take off the tags and other things ourselves.... I would not buy anything here at regular price. The furniture looks nice, but I don't think the quality is good enough to justify the cost. I bought a bunch of things during their anniversary sale last year, where almost everything was 20% off. It's $99 for delivery so I would only pay this if you are getting large items or a bunch of things that won't fit in your vehicle ($99 for the whole delivery, not per item). If you are just buying something small like a night stand, I would just drive to their warehouse in Kapolei and pick it up to save money. You can have them assemble small furniture if you don't want to do it yourself and pick it up from the store, but it will take longer to receive the item. I had my bed frame and couch delivered and assembled to save myself the time and effort. The furniture was put together in a decent amount of time, but the workers left a small mess for me to clean up afterwards. If you are on a budget, this isn't the place to shop for furniture. If you like their designs, either wait for a sale or maybe check out their discount showcase in Pearlridge Shopping Center. read more

I regret getting rid of my gorgeous unique fabulous-on-so-many-different-levels sofa from the 1950s for the sad excuse of sectional I bought here. Unlike the decades old sofa that was made shortly after WW!! that was in excellent shape considering this modern sofa started showing signs within a year of it's shoddiness and low quality masquerading as high quality. Yes, it's cute looking but is severely lacking in time less quality and efficiency. Thankfully it was on sale and came with cute pillows. Now on to the movers. They truly have the worst movers I've encountered. They had the nerve to try to move it in a manner that could have easily caused thousands of dollars worth of damage to the building and cars parked below because they wanted to take a quick and easy shortcut. Methinks not, bitches. At least they stopped when we told them it was unacceptable but still they were such lazy bitches. The staff seem to fall into two categories. Helpful, friendly people who smile and arrogant judgemental bores. It is so off putting that most of the people I know refuse. Because of this I am extremely hesitant to visit the bars since going to a wine bar by yourself reeks of a desperate middle aged woman waiting to be picked up by a young 'buck'. Now the piece de resistance. I found a Nazi children's book at the Pearl Ridge location. YES, a straight up Nazi book for children depicting graphic images alongside illustrations for children. It was immensely horrifying and something I would not joke about. Makes my skin crawl. How I found you may ask? The second floor had bookshelves filled with old books which of course caught my eye since I am, A. a fan of old books, B. a fan of anything in a Scandinavian language. We brought it up to a staff member and the guy looks blasé about it but throws it in a waste basket. It was the strangest and most disturbing shopping experience I've ever had. Why was he blasé? I'm guessing since the books that were alongside it were marked as library books that it wasn't even noticed since there were many in various shelves. Out of all the furniture stores left on this island, Inspiration has the best selection of mid-range priced contemporary furniture. The store is huge, so if you are looking for something specifically ask for help. We were looking for a dresser to fit in a specific space. With the help of a salesperson, we scouted all the potential dressers and she printed out an info sheet of the ones we were interested. The info sheet had a picture of the dresser and the other matching pieces in the set along with the dimensions and price. The info sheet says the price includes assembly (and nothing about delivery). I foolishly assumed they had the dresser at the store and would be able to take it home that day. It wasn't until the sales person was ringing me up and printing my receipt that she informed me I wouldn't get delivery of my dresser until their next delivery which was 10 days later! Also, the price listed did include assembly, but NOT delivery. But if you get it unassembled then the delivery is free. So at the end of the purchase I felt tricked, twice. read more

Next time went there when they were having sale on dining furniture. We finally found a nice dining table in the color we wanted. We waited in line for an hour, shelled out tons of cash, and then were told that we could either pay an extra $40 for the privilege of having our items delivered _to the store_ in Honolulu (where we would then have to go pick it up), or drive all the way to Kapolei to pick it up "for free". I went to the Inspiration Furniture Store on Kapiolani to buy an LED Diamond Quilla tower floor lamp that caught my eye when I walked by the showroom several times. Maribel Valencia came up to happily greet my son & I as we were looking around. When I showed her the lamp that I was interested in she right away went to check if they had it in stock. Unfortunately it was out so she went online to check if there was anything else like it and those were out of stock too. So I told her I was willing to buy the floor model & she said I would get a discount & that she had 4 of them on the floor. She then took the time to look up how long they've been on the floor being used so I could pick the one that had been on the floor for the least amount of time . I only was going to buy 1 or 2 but I ended up buying all 4! Maribel then wrapped them all up & helped bring them outside to the parking lot to wait for an Uber to help us take them home! She was suppose to get off work @ 5:00pm but she gladly stayed past 6:00pm to make sure the lamps were wrapped up & helped us put them in the Uber! First I will say that I did not buy any furnature (I am not in the market right now). I did browse the entire store (three floors to look at) and liked what I saw. This is a cool place to window shop around. This store has a nice cafe (Stage cafe) in it on the first floor. There is also a cool looking resturant on the second floor. If I am ever in the market to buy furnature, wall art, or lamps I will consider shopping here.... for now I will probably just hang out at the cafe and might go eat at the restaurant. read more

A little over 2 years ago we purchased a L-shaped sofa. Warranty is good for 1 year. Year and a half later material started to bubble up and peel. I spoke to an associate about my problem. She said warranty is up. I realize that but what can be done? It's only been little over a year. Nothing....warranty is up. We paid $1600 thinking you get what you pay for. Checked out some chairs, end tables, and leather soda chairs the other day and was flabbergasted by what I saw. I bought a leather love seat and a sofa bed from them about two years ago, so I was impressed with their quality. We get what we pay for them, but one simple looking dining chair, even with 20% grand opening discount, still costs two to three hundred bucks, not mentioning the leather lazy-boy type of chair that runs about $2.5K!! I ordered a dresser last Sunday 1/17 during their sale. We opted to get it delivered to the Kapiolani store since they couldn't get a hold of someone at their Pearlridge store. The salesperson said it would take about a week. So, I called yesterday, Saturday to check on the order. The person who answered the phone said we were next on the call list. The shipment had come in and they had to check it off. I should expect a call later in the day. I never received a call. Today, I called and asked if I could pick up my order today. They said there are no pick ups on Sunday. My dresser wasn't ready and it was due to be delivered today and someone should call me tomorrow. I asked her what changed from yesterday to today? She said, I don't know, I'm just telling you what I see on the computer. I expressed that I was worried about the different stories I'm hearing and she didn't respond. We'll see if I get a call tomorrow. Normally, I wouldn't be so worried, but I had just spent the morning reading Yelp Reviews and I'm questioning some of my purchases I have made in the past. I remember my father distinctly picking out a bedroom set with a dresser and he admired the real wood. When the dresser was delivered, my dad insisted that a bait and switch had occurred. The wood in the dresser was particle board and not real wood as he had seen in the showroom. When we asked to see the showroom model it was no longer available and there were no other dressers. At that time, I thought my dad was just mistaken. He had also bought this $3,000 leather lounger type item and my dad was insisting that it was sagging. When I sent the pictures to the sales rep, they insisted that it was normal. Now, looking at other people's bad reviews, I am really rethinking about purchasing anything from them again. I would never have thought to question their practices. This is a time when I'm glad about online reviews. I'm also glad that my dresser is $200 and I know what kind of quality to expect. It's sad, because we did buy our bed frame from them over 14 years ago and it's still in good condition, but I'm questioning our other purchases and customer service. I recently bought a new sofa, 2 dressers, and 2 small tables during their end of the year sale. Although I probably spent more than I wanted to, I still felt like I got a good deal with all of the things I purchased. I did a lot of researching and went down to the store more than once to look for my new sofa. I had an idea of what I wanted to get, but never really saw the "right one." Brandon I. helped me find what I needed and was super helpful in finding me the right sofa. He was extremely patient all 3 (maybe 4) times that I went down to the store and never pushed me into buying something I wasn't completely satisfied with. I went in this past Friday afternoon and after walking around the first two floors with no one from the store to greet me or even smile at me, I was wondering if I should even buy anything from this place. Then as I was getting off the escalator on the third floor, someone greeted me, FINALLY! The third floor is where all the huge sale items were and I found my sleeper sofa there! Oh yea! After looking at it for a bit, someone finally came over even though a few sales ppl walked by me without looking at me or smiling at me, geesh am I that unapproachable? Jeffrey was the one that came to help me and he was very accommodating. He showed me how the sofa drops down to become a bed and it was everything I was looking for! He rang me up and I opted for delivery. Then after telling my friend about the delivery, he didn't want me paying for the $99 delivery fee (they actually add tax on that fee) and he wanted to get it himself. So I called the store back and they credited my credit card the delivery fee along with the tax and told me I had to call the warehouse in Kapolei 45 mins before heading over so they can get the item ready. My friends drove out and got quite lost because they went on a Saturday and some roads were closed and google maps wanted them to go down a road that's not even open due to construction. So call the warehouse and ask for directions before heading over. I was going to give the place 2 stars because of the lack of customer service in the beginning but Jeff and my lovely (on sale) sofa bumped the rating up to 3 stars. read more

Inspiration always has the most updated and contemporary furniture pieces on the island. With that being said, regular prices on some of the items are quite high. However, be patient, as when they do have sales, the prices are very reasonable for the quality of merchandise you are getting. Service is always spot on and they always stand behind their product. read more
