We have used Interwest Electric for all our electrical needs for over 30 years and they are the best in the business. We recently had LED lights installed throughout the house and we had a problem with the kitchen lights causing RFI issues whenever the over the air antenna was turned on for the local channels. After some research, we found that the kitchen 6" LED's were not FCC compliant, Reg. 15 and Dean changed out the LED's to another brand and the problem went away. I researched the specs on the new brand of LED's and it is FCC compliant. They have found some anomalies in electrical work done by previous contractors and corrected them. I have had Interwest Electric to my home several times for different issues as I am getting my home ready to sell. I made a regular appointment and two service people came on time. They were friendly, introduced themselves, and completed the tasks quickly. I asked them to do something else and they were able to do it right then. The next day I called them for another issue that came up, Dean was able to get them out the next day, even though I knew they were busy. I recommended them to my neighbor and after finishing with me, they were able to go right over and fix her problem. He was very quick to go to the house to give me an estimate, and very responsive to my emails. I didn't end up having the repairs done (instead gave a credit to the buyer), but I would have used him if the buyer didn't ask for the credit instead of the repair. We bought an older home that had been remodeled two or three times in the past. There were so many outlets didn't work and light switches that did nothing. We needed someone to help us troubleshoot and figure the whole system out. These guys were great. Frankie didn't give up and didn't waste time. There were open slices and hidden junction boxes and one junction box placed over another buried in a hollow column and wires just buried wherever in the yard. If I could, I'd give Interwest 6 stars! I had an electrical problem come up and not that it was a super emergency, it was causing a lot of inconvenience. I called them at 10am and Dean said he could come out that day at 2pm. He actually showed up at 1:50. He promptly checked out my problems, gave me a very reasonable quote and had ALL problems solved within an hour!! Dean went as far as checking other possible problems and asked me if I wanted him to take care of them. They were safety issues but he didnt make me feel like he was "upselling". Interwest did a great job. We recently bought a house and needed some electrical work updated and some components installed. Turns out our house had a lot of problems we were really grateful they were able to find and fix (e.g. live/sparking wires not connected to anything, wires running off to weird places...etc. yikes). They had to come twice, since we weren't expecting so many problems, but Jose came with another guy and even stayed late so they could finish everything the second time. I'm docking a star only because while they did clean up after themselves, after they left, we found several screws around the house and in the backyard. We have two dogs. Thankfully, neither of our dogs are stupid enough to eat screws, but I know one of them was playing around with one because we found a screw in their water bowl later that night. read more

Back in March we had a flood thanks to an upstairs neighbor. IW has been great through the entire process. Since the ceiling was gone we wanted to change our outdated box light kitchen fixture into recessed lighting. We also wanted an outlet added over our new countertops. All of the work happened in stages around the other trades, roughing out and wiring up for framing, then setting up for the drywall, then installing the lights, etc. We had a couple of crews through the time, but they have ALL been great guys to work with! I recently purchased a hot tub without looking into its electrical needs. Three other electricians came out and all said the same thing... we needed a panel upgrade to the house. Well the panel upgrade was going to require moving a gas line, a water line, and digging up the driveway to the SDGE line - needless to say a job more expensive than the jacuzzi itself! It seemed like I was going to end up with a nonfunctional and non returnable hot tub in the back yard! But after seeing some of the yelp reviews I thought I'd try one more time with Dean. He came out and saw something in the panel that all the others had missed!! An empty breaker that was to power the dryer but we had opted for gas!! Dean mapped out a way to wire the jacuzzi using that empty slot and saved the day! Actually the year! His guys (José and team) came out and wired it up in a flash for a great price!! Frankie & Luis did an amazing job figuring out the mess of our wiring in our master bedroom that created problems including our fridge to be without power. They were considerate in placing a sheet over the bed and vacuumed up the mess when they left. Dean, the owner, was great, and his lead electricians are fine. But what keeps me from heartily recommending them is one junior employee who has been sent on all my jobs. This employee is uncommunicative and his competence is questionable. He has *never* done the job right the first time--he's always needed a more experienced employee to bail him out, whether it's running replacement wiring, installing a new fixture, grounding an outlet, or even hanging a light. On their last visit, he didn't do one of the tasks because it ended up being more complicated than estimated, but he didn't bother to tell me! He also decided another task differently from what I asked for--and then that didn't work, so he ended up doing it my way anyway, after wasting my time and $$. Finally, he's messy. I never want this employee on my property again. Too bad, because I really liked Dean. Update in response to owner questioning my veracity: I have ABSOLUTELY been a customer of yours, on multiple occasions. I just haven't been on Yelp much for awhile. I wish I had asked the employee in question his name when I had the opportunities. I could most certainly recognize him again, describe him to a sketch artist, what have you. And by 'messy' I meant this: _every_ time he clipped a wire, a lead, or some such, he just let it fall. Even when it fell someplace obvious and easy to clean up--and the trash can was right there--he didn't pick it up. So I had to go around afterwards and pick up or vacuum up all the little cuttings, pieces of plastic, wire bits, dust, etc. Dean, the first time we used your company (years ago), you yourself had to help finish a job that this guy couldn't get done, and left without finishing. You were fairly upset about it, as I recall. As Dean has accused me of being 'fictitious', and says that all his people know what they're doing--despite another Yelp reviewer who complained about an employee being trained on the job(!)--I've now lost respect for Dean. He did not express any concern about my unsatisfactory experiences, nor about my suggesting I'd have to find another electrician. Other customers may have good experiences, but I didn't. read more
