The rare Williamsburg bar that doesn't seem to be positioning itself toward a specific vibe. Great spot to grab a couple coldies and post up after a work day. Decently priced beers, nice selection of whiskey and bourbon (and a Japanese whiskey as well), and good tunes--War on Drugs on the speakers as I'm making notes here. If you're in the neighborhood and want something more low-key earlier in the night, Iona's a good move. read more

Great English/Irish beer selection. A lovely pub-style bar in Williamsburg. Outdoor area is cool and chill. Usually have DJ's playing nice unobtrusive mixes. Last time I was there it was excellent funk and soul. read more

they have fuller's london pride and esb! i don't actually drink either of these beers, but any bar that has them on tap is my kind of bar (i lived across the street from the brewery in london for two weeks). i really enjoyed my time here; what everybody else said. read more

Dark wooden bar with an awesome patio. They had some barbequeing action going on. We had a big group for a party there, and despite a big deck, we were only able to get a small amount of space there. We were able to squish a bunch of people into a small space. I wouldn't say the music was fantastic, but it was good to go to if you are using the patio. read more

Iona is great because of their outdoor area. The inside is crowded and narrow, so I like to come here when its nice out and I can go outside. Their outside area is like a jungle gym for intoxicated grown-ups; there's lots of different places to sit, some covered, some not, and a ping-pong area. They've also got some grilling going on back there once in a while too. There's standard pub fare, and lots of football. So, like many other affordable dive bars in the area, Iona definitely has its place in our hearts and our weekends and week nights. read more

i love coming here early evening during the week. The back patio is often crowded or hot usually, but during this time of the day the mood is relaxed and the drinks are strong. It is a lovely neighborhood bar with wood benches and tables as well as people watching seats in the window nooks. PLUS the bathrooms smell wonderful- lilac and vanilla. this bar definately has a charm about it. read more

Went here on a date last night. Cool atmosphere, and I like the outdoor patio in the back, but the bartender seemed bafflingly clueless about his draught selections. I asked him to recommend me a bitter beer and he brought over a pint of Captain Lawrence, one of the most sickeningly sweet beers I've ever tasted. One of the best Dark & Stormy's I've ever had! Great beer garden with ping pong which is always a winner. There's a little grill outside that does hot dogs for cheap enough. The music is good, it's kinda dark which gives it a nice cozy feeling. the kind of place you'd be happy to stay and chill in all night, especially because of the great music that plays in the background. Wouldn't advise it if you're looking to have a bit of a dance though. read more

welcoming place with spacious outdoor backyard that has a large screen tv to watch any sports games. The inside of the bar has several large screen tvs as well. I went to watch the game and liked the very casual mood of the place. Drank the KOPPARBERG Pear cider which is very good. If you're into table tennis they have that out back, too. read more

My go-to day drinking bar. Great bartenders, great backyard, normally not too busy. There is also ping pong and Connect 4. Good beer selection, and very good wine selection for a place I'd consider to be just a step above a dive bar. read more

From the reggae chilled out Sunday evening, to the ultra cool electrical Wednesday night. Great place. Could be a bit cleaner, but all in all, really quaint. One we were there and the had an Irish band playing.

Premier League Bars, or Football Bars in general, are a scarcity in NYC, but Iona on Grand St. in Williamsburg is my favorite place to go to catch a game. Great atmosphere, incredible draught beers, multiple TV's streaming different games, and an outdoor beer garden with a ping pong table! This little bar isn't small when it comes to character, and you'll be hearing plenty of banter amongst the locals, trying to defend United's poor run of form. If you're a fan of the EPL, here's a definite place to stop by, watch some Prem, and grab a pint (or several) of Guinness. read more

A great selection of beers and fantastic bartenders. The yard is a nice surprise as well. Inside, they had a DJ doing funk and groovy vinyl, and some really unusual Japanese movies on a big screen from 1970s. My only gripe would be it's a bit too crowded once the people come in from the back, so it's near impossible to get a seat. read more

between the ten year old playing with an iphone app that seemed to require full body wiggles and the occasional whiz of an errant ping pong ball whipped by one of the guys tourneying on the table, this backyard venue had a super lively atmosphere. christmas lights and good beers on tap heightened the fun vibe. read more

I used to dislike this place, but it has grown on me. They have a better-than-average beer selection, good music (sometimes), and decent clientele. The "Remember Bannockburn" banner on the wall made me want to watch Braveheart when I got home. read more

i love iona! my partner & i made our first visit to iona before we even lived in NYC and it has continued to be one of my favorite drinking spots in williamsburg. it's a perfect summer time hang spot with an amazing backyard and a grill on a few days of the week (can't remember which). we always end up meeting really interesting (sometimes quite strange) people and stay way longer than we planned. gender neutral bathrooms which always wins points in my book. the inside of the bar is a little small and kind of narrow but they have some great seats up in the front window too. good, relatively reasonably priced drink selections. read more

i love Iona. good crowd, great drinks, AMAZING patio. during the summer, its packed. there are always outdoor fireplaces, which means during the winter, if you smoke, you'll be comfortably warm. the bartenders are so friendly, the DJs are pretty damn good (i love mattley, the DJ on fridays- he only spins vinyl, and he's so much fun to watch)...i love coming to Iona. whether you're ending your night, beginning it, or just stopping by, put Iona on your list to visit this week. read more
