I would love to give this place a 5 star review because the food is amazing. Large portions for a fairly reasonable price. My personal favorite is the curry goat. I have to give them 3 stars because of the poor customer service I have received each time I've been there. The young ladies that work up front have always been unpleasant. They make you feel as if you're bothering them. It has happened on every occasion. I am always courteous to them but I never get the same in return. No smiles or anything. I usually don't make too big of a deal of these sort of things. I usually just chalk it up to the person may be having a bad day. But it seems these ladies are having alays having a bad day. So good!! I asked my Jamaican friend where to go to get the best Jamaican food and was sent here. I'll admit the first time I went their customer service was not good. Their food made up for the lack of customer service. Best jerk I've ever had, no kidding. The seasonings are so good, spicy, with a slight citrus taste. Ask for the jerk Mac and cheese. It's not on the menu board but they always have it. It's a weird cheesy jerk chicken mash up. Also-the girls there aren't really mean. Maybe it's a cultural thing. They don't immediately display southern hospitality but the more time you spend around them the more you see it's not personal and they warm up to you. Not sure who they're mad at EVERY time I go in there. I always feel like I'm bothering them when I place my order. Nobody smiles. They all act like they hate their lives. I want to say that I have been a loyal customer of Ionie's since they opened. My husband and I order from them at least once a week. I called today and spoke to a complete and total imbecile by the name of Andre. I called to place an order and this gentleman (I clearly use this term freely) placed me on hold for 10 minutes. I hung up, called back and he answered the phone as if he didn't have a customer on hold. I explained that I was on hold for 10 minutes and he begrudgingly took my order with a tone of frustration as if his job was not to take orders. I will no longer patronize this place with it's rock-bottom level of customer service. I will be telling everyone who will listen how poor the service is. read more

I must say every time my daughter and I come to this restaurant we dine in. We don't deal with standing in line and nasty attitudes as some of the reviews have mentioned. We are invited to sit and we order the same thing every time: curry chicken with roti skin. The waiters are absolutely adorable and very nice to us. They ask over and over again if we're ok or do we need anything and how is the food. The food is always on point and reminds us of when we lived in Brooklyn. This is what brings me back to Ionie's. I've come to this place on a few occasions. None of them wowed me with food or service. The young ladies that work the line and register are dry and not very customer friendly. They seem to get frustrated if you ask too many questions. A lady in front of me in line had several questions about the food and menu and they seemed to be agitated by this. Not very impressed with the food either. Most Americans haven't tasted authentic Jamaican food so they don't really have an idea of what it should taste like. I was expecting this on my visits there and was disappointed. I think a lot of Carribean restaurants try to cater to the "American" taste buds which directly affects the food quality. I happily spend my hard earned money in Ionies maybe twice a week. Even though I have a Jamaican in my household. I go there for the Curry Shrimp w/ rice and peas. I also order the Jerk Chicken. The presentation of the dishes are up to par. Meat, side, 2 plantain, and cabbage. If you're dining in they place a slice of watermelon on your plate. The punch is also good there on ice.! Will never go again. Went in at 8:50 on a Saturday night. Door said open til 930ish. We were immediately given attitude by the woman at the counter and as I asked a question about the food, she answered the phone and wouldn't even look at us. When someone else came over, she pointed to us as if to say "deal with them". We ordered our food and were told they were out of one of the things we ordered, and we weren't given an option of what to replace it we were just told they can give us vegetables. They made our plates and then told us we weren't allowed to sit in the restaurant to eat we had to take it to go. We left. Terrible customer service. My husband and I have been going to Ionie's since the first day the doors opened. The food is amazing. However over the last several month, the service has been horrible, the portion size much smaller (and often inconsistant), and the staff has been rude. I went there tonight to purchase 2 meals for dinner and one of the young ladies behind the counter, named DeJenae, was so very rude and nasty that I almost just walked out. I am pretty sure tonight was my last visit to this eatery, which is unfortunate because the food IS good. I am sure that our annual $300 for food and $600 in catering will not mean anything as the place is always busy. I really do wish Velma the best and I hope she can correct the issues with her staff before loosing more core customers. read more

Ionie's is good for the South. Coming from the NYC Metro Area where Jamaican Restaurants are a dime a dozen, this place isn't as good as what I've had in the past. There are no adjectives to describe how incredible the oxtails, curry chicken and jerk mac & cheese taste at IONIES, so I'll just say deelicious!! My co-workers and I loved it and I absolutely think the young lady who helped me, Shytesa, was beyond professional. She patiently answered all my food questions and even laughed at some of my jokes.
