Cuisine: 8 Service: 7 Decor: 7 Value: 3 Overall: 6 I still prefer the original location, but it's nice to have a decent ramen option in the Times Square area. This branch doesn't have the lines of the original, so not a bad choice when seeking ramen in this neighborhood. I typically get their Shiromaru Motoaji or Akamaru Shinaji, which are both delicious. However, at $22 and $23 respectively now, it is quite pricey. With that said, I recently tried the Nirvana Karaka, which had a mushroom broth that was full of flavor and tofu chashu. Unfortunately, the $28 price tag is insane. Anyway, I wouldn't choose to come here when there are similar quality ramen shops nowadays for less. However, it does give me a quick option when trying to catch a Broadway show nearby.

5.0 / 5.0 A "Jiro-style" Ramen Known Only to Insiders. Available as a secret menu item at Ippudo, KURO-OBI is an irresistible treat for any ramen enthusiast. The rich combination of garlic and pork back fat pairs perfectly with the noodles, creating a delicious bowl that is simply impossible to stop eating. You can choose your Noodle Portion from Small (120g), Regular (200g), Large (300g), or Extra Large (500g* +$3). For the Fat Level, you can select from None, Less, Regular, Mashi (Extra), or Mashi Mashi (Ultra). Similarly, the Vegetable Portion can be customized to None, Less, Regular, Mashi (Extra), or Mashi Mashi (Ultra). It's also great that you can personally adjust the amount of garlic and spiciness to your liking after your order arrives! The interior is spacious, featuring both table seating and counter seats. The restrooms are also clean. The staff members are also very kind and thoughtful. Just be careful--there is a slight step right at the entrance!

Went during lunch - ordered a sesame ramen which was good but I wish it had more meat in the serving! They did provide additional free noodles which I believe may be for a limited time (not sure). I would like to try a rice dish next time and some appetizers. They also gave complimentary gelato which was really nice!

Still my favorite ramen- tried the seasonal special, sukiyaki ramen-- delicious! They could not add garlic oil but gave me some minced fresh garlic. Karaage crispy and impressive! Dumplings very very overcooked/bland, so very disappointing. Felt reheated.

Whenever my sister comes to visit she DEMANDS we go here. This place has to be one of the best ramen spots I've been to. The ramen is unparalleled. Food came out quickly and seamlessly (even though my table had a couple dietary restrictions)! They were very accommodating. Definitely try the shishito peppers - they serve them with a delicious garlic powder and lemon slice. Fun datey vibe in there but great for any outing really.

Went here solo when I was needing a soup to soothe my throat, service was so quick and efficient and the soup came out so quickly! I love the broth and thin ramen noodles. The ramen counter is a nice touch as it's the first area and then there's a second area for table seating portion. Definitely will be back as this is so close to my work and a great cold day pick me up.

The ambiance and ramen was great! I ordered the Akamaru Shinaji. It was not as spicy as expected and the broth was very soothing and with just the right amount of spice. What's cool is that they also had a promotion of free extra noodles till April 15th. I would come back to try out their other ramen dishes. If you're in the area, I'd recommend trying them out especially with the free extra noodles till April 15th!

Interior is date night vibes! Staff was very friendly answered our questions on top of quick service! I would skip the goma-q personally only because I think you could make it at home but the pork buns were 10/10. The ramen was so flavorful and rich. Sometimes ramen broth can be too heavy but this one was light and meaty! To top it all off the server asked if I wanted extra noodles and I of course got extra noodles free of charge!!

I love the decor and ambiance of this place and the friendly staff! Ramen was creamy and the broth was delicious. I appreciate that they listed the vegetarian ramens separately on the menu to make it easier to navigate. I'd definitely eat here again.

Thankful this place was open until midnight on Saturday because I was hungry and looking for some comfort food after checking into my hotel in the theater district. The waitress recommended one of their three top OG ramens and I am glad I went with her Rec. I got the Akamaru Shinaji ramen an added an extra egg on top. While the bowl is huge the portion is just right. The broth is deep with umami with that added garlic oil that comes with it. If I had more room in my stomach I would have liked to try one of the Buns or the gyoza but as it was 11:30 p.m. at night I didn't want to overdo it but I could not pass up the cucumbers called Goma Q! So glad I ordered those and I highly recommend those. The hostess and waitresses were so sweet and patient with me. I had trouble getting to the menu and scanned three different QR code cubes none of which worked on my phone but they had an iPad with the menu pulled up that I could read through and place my order through them. The restaurant is clean sparsely decorated but perfect for the theme.

We hit Ippudo West Side in Hell's Kitchen on a Sunday night and got sat right away. Started with pork buns, edamame, and cucumbers, and honestly the pork buns alone made the trip worth it. For mains we both went Shiromaru Classic. The broth was clean and rich, the kind that keeps pulling you back into the bowl. When we ran out of noodles and still had plenty of broth, we added an extra order of noodles (Kaedame) and finished every last bit. It's loud, in a good New York way. Steady turnover, a mix of people, not the place for a quiet heart-to-heart, but perfect if you like a room with some life in it. Staff were sharp and friendly. Water glasses never sat empty, timing was right, and nobody hovered. I was with my soulmate and we both walked out happy. I would absolutely go back, especially on a cold night when ramen solves everything. If you're in the area, go. They have other locations, but this West Side visit was a hit.

I stopped by during lunch hours with a friend and luckily it wasn't too busy so we didn't have to wait to be seated. There was table seating as well as bar counter type eating. Menus were available on the table by scanning the QR code on a wooden block. I got the Nirvana classic vegetarian ramen because I wanted to try something new and my friend got their miso ramen. A nearby table ordered their kuro-obi which came out as a humongous bowl of ramen with a mountain of toppings. We didn't have to wait too long for our orders to come out. I really loved the Nirvana ramen's soup. Who knew mushroom broth and soy milk would pair for well together. The flavor was very milky almost like a bone broth. There was a small bite of fried enoki mushrooms, micro greens and carrots. The soup was so tasty that I wanted to drink the whole bowl. I also got to sample a bit of the miso ramen and there was a clear layer of oil on top which didn't quite mix with the soup. The pork slices they gave were like thin slices of ham instead of the typical thicker roast pork slices that usually come with tonkotsu ramen. Bathroom seemed a bit aged, there was a sewer pipe cover inside the woman's bathroom so it kind of smelled like sewage inside the bathroom. I liked that they had toilet seat covers though.

    Ally W.

I came in for lunch and was served very quickly. I got the Akamaru Shinaji (pork tonkotsu broth, thin noodles, pork chashu, scallions, bamboo shoots, garlic oil, and Ippudo's umami paste). The broth was good for the first few sips, but tasted more salty toward the end (1 star off). I'm not sure if I tasted the garlic oil or umami paste. With the hot broth, I had expected all the contents to be hot as well, but the bamboo shoots were actually cold (1 star off); it seemed like they were added straight from the frige as an after-thought and not incorporated into the hot broth. I had to stir the bamboo shoots into the broth and let them warm up a bit. The noodles were cooked al dente, but didn't taste fresh (1 star off). Generally, I am used to having a few more toppings, but the ramen here was only topped with pork chashu and scallions (and cold bamboo shoots). Look at my photo. The bowl of ramen just looked sad. With many stellar ramen places, I am surprised Ippudo is still in business.

Do you need to be fully vaccinated or is 1 Moderna/Pfizer okay?

Check the nyc gov website for updates but as of today (3/10/2022) you do not need to show proof of vaccination to dine in.

    Do they take reservations?

They don't take reservations at all.

This place keeps showing up on delivery sites but the order never goes through. I assumed they went out of business and the apps didn't update, but it's been two months now. What is going on?

I've seen Uber eats pick up there and just did an order from their website direct which was easy to use. Good luck!

If I get takeout ramen, should I order cooked or uncooked noodles?

It depends. Uncooked is the way to go if you have the time and follow directions per any big time ramen channel on YouTube. But cooked comes as very good as well.

Is the restaurant opened for delivery?

It is unfortunately closed temporarily until the shut down lifts. Prior to that, they never delivered and you couldn't even take away your leftovers.

    Do you take reservations?

    Yes

Do you have to make a reservation to get in?

nope, they don't take reservations, you have to go in and wait.

    Are there vegetarian options?

Yes - best veggie ramen I have ever had + amazing veggie apps like the eggplant bao buns!

    Any gluten free ramen options?

Not sure - please call them

Do they have a low sodium option for the soup?

No, don't so. Didn't see that on the menu anywhere

Any gluten free options? Trying to fund gluten free ramen for trip coming up.

Shojin (gluten free uses a tofu noodle) is usually available - I would call ahead to confirm in case they ran out of the ingredients.

Will they close from 3 to 5pm or I can visit during business hours as it is listed on yelp?

During the weekend, they are open all day without closing mid day. During the weekday, they do close and reopen at 5pm

Ippudo turned up in my search of gluten-free ramen in NYC, but I can't tell from their website if they actually offer GF noodles. Do you know if they have a GF option? And what are the GF noodles made of? Many thanks.

Yes. Shojin is the only ramen dish with GF noodles made of tofu. When we dined there, they said you cannot substitute ramen in other dishes with GF noodles. Max has food intolerances so we write yelp reviews with that in mind. If you want more info… Read more

Do they have noodles made without eggs?

Yes. They do. Eggs can be added as toppings if requested.

    Do they offer takeout?

    They do not offer takeout.

How long should I expect to wait to be seated if I am looking to come this Saturday at 3 PM (2 person party)?

Depending on how busy it is. If not to busy maybe 5-10 mins . If really busy 25-35 mins hope this helps. Enjoy !!

How many people can they accommodate?

From what I could tell, small (2-3) to medium (4-6) is probably the most I'd push for.

    Is this a cash-only restaurant?

No the restaurant accepts credit cards.

Are all the vegetarian ramen also vegan?

    Yes

We started with half a dozen oysters, which were fresh, briny, and exactly what you want with serious cocktails. Crisp, clean, gone in about three minutes. For drinks, we ordered the Smoke Show and the King Tusk. The Smoke Show was beautifully balanced. The Grey Goose vodka and Dolin Dry gave it that classic martini backbone, but the fino sherry and brine added depth. The smoked olive oil and blue cheese olive brought just enough savory drama without overpowering the glass. It was complex but not fussy. The King Tusk leaned more aromatic and layered. The vermouths gave it richness, while the Buddha's Hand and osmanthus flower added subtle citrus and floral notes that lingered in a really elegant way. I am old so this probably wouldn't have been something I clocked in my younger years. They do have food which looks intriguing. Especially anything with truffles on it. If in the area, would definitely consider coming back for a quick drink and bite. REVIEW #4013

Top recommendation for apps: the fried tuna nigiri bites. The duck ball things were really good too, and the truffle fries. Heads up, there's absolutely no phone service in the downstairs area (which is spacious and great for a big party), but they have wifi that works really well which is great. Would definitely come back here for dinner sometime.

Angel helped guide our order, paced the food well for a group, and made us feel taken care of from start to finish. Drinks were a highlight: bright, refreshing cocktails (we loved the mint/cucumber moment and a spritz-y option). We ordered a few plates to share and everything hit. The bao were fluffy and satisfying, and the crispy chicken was a standout. Finished with a light, not-too-sweet dessert that was the perfect ending. Would recommend for a casual celebration or a coworker night out.
