5 stars - Good I ate here by myself while my friends were at the NY Open (8/26). I had never been to a ramen house. I loved the layout of the restaurant and the decor. The food itself was very good. The staff were friendly and helped me determine what ramen would be best. I would go here again if I was in NYC.

I enjoyed Shinjuku for a relaxed, casual dinner experience. The exterior is unassuming, and the interior is minimally decorated but has a warm, inviting ambiance. The service was not too memorable, which is exactly what I wanted for a more casual, cozy spot. The Tonkotsu ramen was solid, featuring an umami broth, perfectly cooked noodles, and savory pork slices. This wasn't the most memorable bowl of ramen I've ever had, but it was undeniably delicious and had all the right components. It's hard to stand out amongst NYC's fantastic restaurant selection. I wouldn't consider this place the flashiest, but I did enjoy my experience here and would visit again to try other ramen options.

Stopped by on a whim to grab a quick bite and was honestly surprised at how good the food was. Every table was taken and the service was fast/friendly. We ordered the gyoza and some ramens. I got the shoyu and it was delicious! The broth was clean and the noodles were perfectly cooked. Casual ambiance with great food and service.

First off, I recommend you make reservations for this Ramen spot. My cousin made reservations for five people for 2pm. I came here with my family for our reservation and this place was packed on a Saturday afternoon. So I recommend a reservation because there was a small wait even with a reservation. Also this restaurant is small and a bit cramped so it isn't very spacious. The service at this ramen spot was okay and could have been a little better. As for the food it also wasn't too bad. I got the Mapo Don with extra udon and miso soup. I feel like the Mapo Don would have been better with a side of rice instead of the udon.

Midtown (and just NYC in general) is a saturated market for good eats, yet Shinjuku Ramen stands out as a great option for complex broths and great noodles in the area. Form the outside, it's modest and unassuming façade: the entrance is marked by a simple sign, and large windows offer passersby a glimpse into the inviting interior. Stepping inside, guests are welcomed into a warm and intimate setting that evokes the ambiance of a traditional Japanese ramen shop, featuring wooden furnishings, cozy booths, and subtle lighting, creating a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere. At around 2:45pm on Memorial Day Monday, my dad and I stopped in for a late lunch, and we were immediately seated. The restaurant was about half-full, with most of the working professionals in the area being gone for the holiday weekend. The menu is simple, with multiple ramen options spanning different types of broths, noodles, and proteins. Additionally, there are options for appetizers such as edamame and skewers, as well as rice bowls and fried foods if you aren't feeling noodles. My dad opted for the TanTan Ramen ($17.25), which consists of a spicy tonkotsu broth, your choice of chicken/pork/tofu, green onion, spicy minced pork, bok-choy, and half a boiled egg. The broth is perfectly spicy and flavorful, obviously boiled for hours to achieve a well-rounded, umami richness. The spicy minced pork contrasts nicely with the lean pork chashu, and the bok choy and green onion add a nice crunch and acidity to the dish. The egg was perfectly soft-boiled, with a gooey yolk that practically oozed out into the broth. The thick noodles were toothsome and al dente, with the curly contours soaking up the savory broth. I ordered the Shoyu King Shinjuku Ramen ($17.25), as I was craving a slightly lighter broth. This was a soy-sauce based broth that had a lovely depth with a slight sweetness to it, though with this broth, I found myself craving a fattier pork chashu as opposed to the lean, loin-like two pieces they gave me. Additionally, this ramen comes with thin ramen noodles, which we enjoyed the al dente texture of, but weren't nearly as delicious nor flavor-absorbing as the thick noodles. However, I did quite enjoy the addition of the kikurage mushrooms, green onion, toothsome bamboo shoots, and sweet corn, as well as the perfect soft-boiled half egg. Both ramen dishes had fantastic broth, but both of us found ourselves craving a larger portion of meat (beyond just two thin slices), as well as a full boiled egg as opposed to a half. But compared to the sky-high prices of ramen in Seattle, this was much better flavor-wise, as well as a larger portion of great noodles, and the service was fast and friendly. While I'm not sure I would return here with so many other tasty ramen options in the city, this was a great stop to cure a noodle soup fix, and I can highly recommend it to those in the Midtown area!

Impeccable ramen! Service was good, thankfully went during a low traffic time. The noodles didn't soak up the broth which tells me about its high quality. Chicken karaage and takoyaki reminded me of ramen from back home in Hawaii. Ambiance was calming and mellow, dimmed lights indoors.

I just had lunch here with my family. I ordered their tonkatsu with black garlic oil and the broth was pretty good. The pork belly, however, was dry and chewy. I had nothing else, so I can't speak for anything else in the menu. I tasted the broth of the normal tonkatsu and it was solid. Too bad the meat wasn't as succulent as you'd expect it to be. Welcoming service.

Overview: My friend and I came here for an early dinner after doing a 6 mile walk. The staff were nice and the food came out quickly! I really enjoyed the wall decorations as well. The ramen was yummy! I'm really picky when it comes to ramen since my favorite ramen is in Japan. Hahaha so I normally don't get ramen here, but my friend isn't as picky as me! What was ordered: Veggie spring rolls, tonkatsu ramen with black garlic oil, veggie ramen Stand outs: Tonkatsu ramen with black garlic oil Would I come back/recommend: Yes - I would come back Yes - I would recommend

Came in on a Friday night looking for a quick meal on a cold night. Place relatively busy but we were seated quickly. Waiter came fast to take our order, bring the drinks. The food came out relatively fast and we ate and enjoyed. We had gyoza, the fried chicken which was amazing, and I had the ramen. It was delicious. The place was very cozy, the company was great, the only downside was the waiter took so long to come and check on us with the bill.

This spot is my new ramen obsession! From the first slurp to the last bite, my spicy miso ramen hits all the right notes -- rich, flavorful broth, tender chashu, and perfectly cooked noodles that keep you wanting for more. Don't miss the crab croqutte, creamy and incredibly tasty! The cutlet was crispy with the perfect curry sauce. Plus the cozy vibe makes this spot a must-visit for any ramen lover. Six of us came here for lunch today. The meals were Pretty hardy. My fiends ordered ramen that was medium spicy and it was too spicy. I ordered chicken curry katsu and it was yummy. My hubby had the chicken kaarage - it was yummy. I didn't realize the green tea is $8 per person so be very careful when you order it. For 5 of us it was $40 extra.

Service was just Norm nothing out of the ordinary. They get your order they serve you and they leave you alone. The ambiance is mild. Lots of movement but you can have a conversation The Food well, The gyoza not my fav, it was soggy and really oily. For the Ramen they give you lots of broth but not enough noodles. The noodles and ingredients are hidden In all the broth. I have to admit that the broth has good taste but that's about it. Happy ramen hunting, I hope these honest review helps

What was the name of the ramen place before here? Does anyone know if the previous owner opened in a different location? I've been coming for years and found ownership here changed about a year ago. Food is very different.

    Could be Ise Menkui Tei?

Some of the staff has been here for a while, which tells me it is a well managed operation. Quality is still the focus at TONCHIN. Table comfort is still not. I love to bring my children when not crazy crowded so they can also enjoy one of the best ramen restaurants in the world. Maybe I'm exaggerating, but I haven't found better yet. Summer soupless ramen with perfectly chewy noodles and slightly spicy sauce is a great addition. The vegan ban ban kinoko as well as its chicken version are great also during summer. The maguro is delicious but I don't find it as satisfying as the noodles. Mind spiciness level for the younglings. In the winter, the spicy tantan or Tokyo ramen always hit the spot. Fish bun has been improved slightly over the years but thank ramen-sama, it is always as messy to eat as the first time I tried it 7 years ago. Desserts are surprisingly delicious. Typically Japanese ramen restaurants lack in that domain but not here. The Tokyo banana is perfectly crafted: creamy crunchy tasty. The shaved ice are great and super fun to eat. To many more years of happy reviews, and good fortune.

The atmosphere was also very nice and conducive to conversation. I particularly appreciated how well-paced the meal was, with each course--appetizer, entrée, and dessert--arriving at the appropriate time. This is something I've found lacking at some other spots in NYC, so the timing and overall service really stood out here.

The tables, floors, and bathrooms were all very clean. This will be short and sweet. I ordered the Shrimp Bao. It was very good. We started with the pork belly appetizer which was recommended and stated on the menu indicating it's their featured dish. It was the biggest disappointment as it was extremely fatty with large chunks of fat, while the lean portions were dry. It didn't look very appetizing. The dumplings were just okay--they had decent flavor but I was hoping for a crispier texture. I ordered the Zebra Ramen. The noodles were cooked perfectly al dente, but the broth was much saltier than I would have preferred. The pat of butter felt unnecessary and made the broth overly rich without adding much depth. The chashu was on the small side and also quite fatty and I assume it's the same as the appetizer but was sliced instead of in large chunks. The marinated egg had good flavor, although the yolk was a little more cooked than I typically like. Another thing is the pork belly appetizer came with an egg. I wish the server would tell us so we didn't have to add it to our ramen with an extra charge. The nori was also completely soggy by the time it reached our table. Overall, the noodles were the only highlight of the meal and the rest were very underwhelming. It's definitely not a place I would recommend.

This spot delivers the kind of authentic paitan that reminds you why people used to line up on cold sidewalks just for a bowl. I ordered the Paitan Ramen Deluxe, and it genuinely lives up to the name. The broth is silky, rich, and comforting without being overly salty which is exactly what a proper paitan should be. The bowl comes loaded: tender shredded chicken, seared chashu, marinated soft-boiled eggs, fresh scallions, bamboo shoots, and a sheet of nori that ties everything together. Every topping tastes intentional, not just filler. The texture balance is what really stands out fatty chashu that melts, shredded chicken with real flavor, and noodles that hold up beautifully in the broth. You can taste the care in the soup base; it has depth, not just heat or salt. If you loved Totto Ramen back in the day, this feels like its modern successor same spirit, new precision.
