Also, weird cheez wiz mixture with undercooked rice, just made a not so tasty rice ball, especially if you know what they are supposed to taste like. Al' dente is not same as undercooked pasta. Menu was not impressive, specifically was looking for a "veal" dish, unfortunately none available. Fine Italian cuisine should always have a veal dish. Waaaayy too many carrots in the wedding soup. All I can say is OMG and so much more We made reservations for 845. The service is impeccable. They close at nine and there was absolutely no issues with us. Getting there at 8:45. They waited on us like we didn't get there at almost closing time. We had the pleasure of listening to about 25 minutes of the live piano playing. The ambience was amazing and intimate. The drinks were strong and delicious. The bruschetta was amazing. The oysters Irene was delicious. I tried the turtle soup as I have never had turtle soup before, and the flavor was amazing The ravioli was a lot of pasta, but it was quite tasty The fillet was melt in your mouth deliciousness. Three of us went on a haunted pub tour (which was awesome, though not very haunted) and our tour guide recommended Irene's. We were starving after wandering around for a few hours and decided to head in here after we had wrapped up the tour. I made reservations but we ended up there about 20 minutes early and they were able to accommodate us in the piano lounge which was fabulous. Our server was amazing and relayed the specials with a zeal related to discussing a favorite child. We split the crabmeat gratin, which had an incredible flavor. There was complimentary bruschetta - fresh with tomatoes and cheese that had been under a broiler to get perfectly melty. I had a special salad with watermelon, grated parm, vinegar, and dried currants. The watermelon was very refreshing but it wasn't my favorite flavor pairing. My coworkers had a caprese style salad that they both enjoyed. For my main I did the ricotta and spinach ravioli. The pasta had good flavor but the marinara sauce was a bit too sweet for my taste. One of my coworkers got the osso bucco special and the other got the chicken on the normal menu. They both very much enjoyed. We would recommend overall! read more

Located a couple blocks from Bourbon Street, Irene's combines owner Irene DiPietro's Italian roots with her experience growing up in the French Quarter. I highly recommend making reservations online beforehand because this place gets very busy! There are two sections: on one side is the more quiet and formal main dining room and on the other side is the bar area with live jazz music. When we asked which one they recommended another server walked by and recommended the latter so we chose that. We were definitely glad we took his suggestion. We started off our meal with some complimentary bruschetta which was great with the tomato and the cheese. MEATBALLS MARINARA ($15) - these were deliciously tender. The marinara sauce went so well with the meatballs. I highly recommend getting these. 5/5 DUCK ST. PHILIP ($29) - some parts of the duck were slightly more dry than others, but the ones that weren't dry were very tender. Overall this dish was very nice. 4/5 SHRIMP & CRAWFISH FETTUCCINE ($32) - the sauce was wonderful and the shrimp was charred beautifully. They gave plenty of shrimp but we felt there could've been a larger portion of noodles. 4.5/5 TWINTINI ($16) - this was delicious and so easy to drink. It was a balanced drink with the refreshing notes of the lemon and grapefruit. 5/5 CHEESECAKE WITH GRAND MARNIER AND STRAWBERRIES ($11) - our server surprised us with this on the house since it was our anniversary and it was so good. I particularly loved the crust and it was the perfect way to end our meal. 5/5 I want to give a shoutout to our server David who was amazing and attentive throughout our meal. Even the server who recommended us dine in the bar area walked by our table and asked if we were enjoying the live music. He asked if it was a good choice and we agreed with him. Not much changes at Irene's and that is why they are popular. Consistent food and service. Our server, Allen, was a delight. Our group tried a number of foods and all were well liked by everyone. Appetizers: Oysters Irene - very good Baked with pancetta, pimento & pecorino romano Meatballs Marinara - my husband raved about them Veal pork, beef, marinara, melted mozzarella Entrees: San Francisco style Cioppino - excellent Shrimp, scallops, fish, crabmeat, clams, mussels simmered in a spicy, saffron scented tomato fennel broth Lasagna Bolognese - very good House made pasta, ricotta cheese, ground veal, Italian sausage & marinara Duck St. Phillip - very good but a tiny bit dry We also had the cheesecake, bread pudding and tiramisu for dessert and they were very good. Irene's probably doesn't need another five star review but it DESERVES it so I'm going to leave one anyway! This'll be the place we recommend in the future when people ask us where to go to dinner in NOLA. We came here night one of our visit based on online recommendations. When you come in, you're treated like family. The waiters, waitresses, and hosts all are so kind and welcoming. We had a reservation so we were immediately brought to our table. Our waitress Stacie arrived shortly after with tasty housemade bruschetta and information about the specials of the evening. She was the sweetest thing ever! It took me some time to decide (which Stacie was super patient about btw) but I ended up going with a caesar salad and the cioppino. It was a great decision! The salad was fresh with plenty of dressing, and the cioppino had absolutely wonderful flavor and tons of seafood - I loved the mussels and clams the most but all of it was good! My husband got the duck and he devoured it and said it was perfect. For dessert we ordered a cheesecake and it was every bit as good as everything else. So yummy! I would definitely recommend getting a reservation as we came in only about twenty minutes after it opened and they were already telling other people there was a two hour wait for tables. But it's super easy to do on OpenTable, so do it! It's 100% worth it! read more

I ordered the filet (which was on special), which was pretty under. I had to send it back. She handled that great and the steak was perfect upon return! We also had the mussels as an appetizer, which were so tasty (would ask for extra crostini). My partner got the lamb chops which were so flavorful and delicious. Was there on Saturday night during the Labor Day weekend. Had a great meal and lovely staff who were attentive but not overly so. Soft shell crab was on the menu and it was perfectly cooked. Antipasto plate was delicious. For those who don't like fish, the lasagna was great. A water melon salad was refreshing. Although booked up weeks in advance we received a great tip from a local that if you come early you can probably grab two seats at the bar (and they serve food there). Sure enough, that worked for us! And the bar area ambience is lively and lovely. | Food | 5 stars - Grilled Asparagus and Prosciutto salad. While not really a salad, this appetizer was chock full of flavor. The Prosciutto was premium quality and the seasoning on the tender asparagus is magic. 5 stars - (Special of the night) Soft-shelled Crab. Perfectly prepared, buttery and tender meat, and a very satisfying crunchiness. 5 stars - Lasagne Bolognese. Although I was getting full and the portion is generous, I couldn't bring myself to leave any behind. We come here every time we are in New Orleans but this was the first time we have been to Irene's since they moved. Loved it! We sat on the patio. Soft music, lights in the trees, lovely plants all around. The tables are set far apart so it feels very intimate. To start, they brought out some bruschetta instead of bread. They have a nice wine selection, so we shared a bottle of wine. Next we shared the Parma Prosciutto & Grilled Asparagus salad. It's pretty small but just enough to prepare for the main event. We both got the Cioppino. It's got scallops, shrimp, a couple kinds of fish, crabmeat, clams and mussels in a nice broth. It's just amazing! We finished it off with a flourless chocolate cake topped with ice cream. As always, the service was great. We always enjoy our meal at Irene's. read more

What an overall great experience. We arrived at 7:15 with no reservation (I recommended making one) and was sat at a "cocktail only" table near the piano. It was great being able to sit and have a drink (delicious by the way) listening to music (not too loud) while we waited on our table at the bar. We only waited roughly 30 minutes before being sat. The bartender went over the specials and was very attentive. I had the lamb chops and it was possibly the best I've ever had. I overheard the bartender tell another guest the cheesecake was the best you will ever have, so we split a piece. He was not wrong, it was amazing. Our first night in town, with no reservations, we wandered into Irene's. We were told that it would be about half an hour for a table, which was fine, so we had a drink in the bar. In under ten minutes, a table was ready for us in the bar area. Which leads me to Tip #1 - request a table in the bar area! There was a wonderful piano player singing in the bar, and you would miss this experience if you sat in one of the dining rooms. Our waiter was fantastic. Personable, friendly and helpful. My friend and I decided to split a few items, and that worked out perfectly. First the Mussels Marinara - though the mussels were small, they were plentiful and the sauce was outstanding. Next we split the Meunière Amandine, red snapper that was pan seared with toasted almonds and brown butter, served with sweet potato mash and haricot verts. We could not resist adding jumbo lump crabmeat to the fish. This was perfectly cooked and delicious. Finally, we ended our meal by splitting the bread pudding. Wow, was this excellent, served warm with both fresh whipped cream and ice cream. A delightful meal in every aspect, and it set the bar high for all our NOLA meals still to come. read more

First things first the restaurant is beautiful but to be honest I was expecting more from the kitchen. The appetizers were good but everything we ordered was a little cold and the platting was straight out of the 80's. However the one that really stud out was the Sicilian Antipasto highly recommend you get it. I had the Duck St. Phillip and with a name like that I was expecting a royal piece of duck. I came here with my boyfriend for a nice romantic evening in the city. Everything was so amazing at this establishment. The food was delicious, excellently prepared. My fillet mignon was cooked PERFECTLY and potato gratin cut through like butter. The flavors were so well balanced and I wish I had a second belly for another one. On top of that, the services was amazing as well. The waiting staff is all very intuitive and professional. At one point, I got out of my seat to use the restroom and without using any words, one of the staff looked me in the eye and instructed me to follow. I was speechless, very classy! I am baffled by the positive reviews. This fish tasted exactly like this picture...bland and oily. We both ordered this dish after the server raved about it being on of their best entrees. There wasn't even salt or pepper at the table for us to attempt to flavor this fish. The only position of this dish that had flavor were the potatoes. The Italian wedding soup also lacked any type of flavor or salt, it tasted like plain chicken broth. The desserts were fine, the 2 stars are for service. This place reminds me of a scene out of an old gangster movie.. even down to the Priest that came up and song with the piano man. Unfortunately my phone was dead and I couldn't catch the moment. The food hit the spot. Honestly it wasn't that special nothing really stood out on my plate, and I love lamb chops. What got Irene's the 5 stars was the service, the staff, the atmosphere. Top notch in my opinion. There was so much going on. All the different characters. Politicians, old money, undercover money , clergymen etc etc..my eyes were darting everywhere imagining the conversations going on by candlelight. Irene's is by far my favorite restaurant in New Orleans. I was first brought there for my birthday but I've been many times over the years. I was very delighted to learn they survived the pandemic, even after a location change years before. I don't think I've ever had a single thing at Irene's that wasn't outstanding. Not only is their food amazing, but the service you receive at Irene's is 5 star plus 5! Definitely the best place to bring that special someone, or for a special occasion outing. From the moment you walk in, you're greeted warmly by any employee that you walk by. A true Southern hospitality experience. The ambience is intimate, sultry and very elegant. The last time I went there, they had beautiful tulips and glass vases on the table. It was near the end of the night, so I asked a random waiter who wasn't serving us, if I could have the tulip on our table to take home. Not only did he let me take it, but he went in the back to get me three tulips that were not yet bloomed to take home. Such a delightful afterthought to see my tulips blooming at home over the next few days. Way to market the experience! After you feel like a million bucks walking in and being greeted like royalty, you can really enjoy what you came there to do -- enjoy their out of this world food offerings. Literally everything is amazing. Duck St Phillip is my jam, and I can't go there without getting it. The magic is in their perfectly crispy roasted duck that is mysteriously super juicy inside. I don't know how they do it, but it's the best duck I've ever had. The mussels are good too, and the sauce will have you unapologetically lifting your plate to your mouth to savor any last remnants of it! Try to contain yourself if you can. If you are fortunate enough to save room for dessert, Irene's will guarantee that you don't regret it. We tried their cheesecake which was fluffier than any cheesecake I've tried in a restaurant.
