Things have changed recently here. And not for the better. Last and several previous visits have been 3-4 star quality. The budget jug wine equivalent is gone from the menu. The wedge salad is "skimpy". The veal is tough, undercooked and below par. The muff needs thinner cut ingredients. I'm going to have to say that I give this place a thumbs down. The Alfredo was okay. The cheesy garlic bread I ordered twice tasted like it was microwaved it was chewy. We ordered a pizza veggie extra artichokes extra mushrooms. It was very spares. We had to take it back because they forgot to put the artichoke hearts on it. The manager did put extra mushrooms on it. Just wasn't a good experience after I gave him a second chance. No their chance. The ambience was full looks like a bunch of Italians it was very packed that's why I went. It looked authentic but I'm not going to go back. I give him a four out of 10. read more

We ate at Venezia after attending the Savannah Banana baseball game. We were meeting up with our daughter and family, including a 7 month old, and we arrived 1st. They were delayed in traffic. I can't say enough about Ory and James! They went above and beyond to accommodate us. The restaurant was packed, but they never made us feel rushed. I felt terrible that we were taking up a table for so long. They assured us they weren't concerned. We ordered for the table before they arrived so that there was a short wait for food when they got there. The food!! Delicious! I hadn't been to Venezia until last night because I was scared off by some of the reviews. But our experience was so positive, it's hard to believe the negative reviewers went to the same restaurant. The service was excellent: we were greeted warmly and our friendly server, Ace, hustled all evening and made sure we had everything we needed. The food was outstanding and the portions huge. Before I comment on the gravy, I should state my qualifications: I learned to make gravy and meatballs from my Sicilian, New Orleanian Mawmaw. And I LOVED Venezia's gravy. I didn't have the meatballs but I had the eggplant parm, which was excellent. They were playing the only music acceptable in a place like this: Frank Sinatra and Louis Prima. I have always been a fan of Vincent's, but they're a lot more expensive. Now I have a place to go when I'm craving old school New Orleans Italian. read more

Let me start out by saying the steak here is a hidden gem. One of my favs in the city. I wish they had more variety's for sides like mashed potatoes, another veggie etc. I always get the Alfredo pasta with it as the fries weren't too flavorful. I've held off on making a review because I've visited several times and had a great experience but the last 3 visits have been underwhelming and I hate that for Venezia. I felt it was time to review since our experience hasn't improved. I'll never stop visiting for the steak but getting friends together to visit Venezia has been hard. Upon arriving the last few visits (with a reservation), we waited at least 10 min for a table. No big deal. The staff is usually running around busy as ever each time we've dined. If they moved the hostess stand to the front entryway some how I think it would benefit the flow. Waiting in the hallway, tucked between the bathrooms and the bar, where servers are hustling through with large trays of food, makes it hard to not feel you are in the way. Especially with a big party size. Just from the moment you enter you feel you are in their way and I feel that could improve each experience. After sitting down, we waited about another 10 minutes at least another 10 min for our server to visit the table. At one of the visits, I waved a gentleman down and asked him if he could send our server over as I wasn't sure who it was. He apologized and sent somebody over within five minutes. We were really hoping at this visit that we didn't get the waitress. We had last time because she must've left us alone at the table for 30 minutes after we received our food. I brought family from out of town to this restaurant on both occasions and the dinner must've took two hours while we only ate for 30 minutes. Again, the steak is one of my favorites so I had no issues but the timely manner it took to visit our table, take our order, receive our food, and get our check was quite long. We've tried out the mozzarella wedges (that are often cooked to little brown rocks) and cheesy garlic bread that tasted as if it was freezer burnt. I prayed each visit would go better than the last. Now here's the real reason we won't come back for some time... My husband has been in love with Venezia's pizza. It's all he orders there. We'll drive out of our way for their pizza and steak! Twice now, they've told us they didn't have it that night and the most recent visit, the pizza was nothing like it's been over the years. That was the last straw from my husband since it was three visits now we've had this pizza debacle lol. Absolutely love this quaint little original Italian restaurant, but it hasn't been consistent in quite some time. I'm going to have to leave my husband behind and recruit more friends to bring to Venezia as they've all ruled it out. I'll deal with a little slow service for a great steak, but it's disappointing that the standard they set hasn't been maintained. read more

The service with Eduardo was excellent. He immediately greeted us when we were seated and took our drink orders. We started with the fried calamari and it was delicious. Perfectly crispy and paired with a superb marinara sauce. Next up was the entree which we decided to share because the portions are huge. We went with the Veal Supreme. It was excellent and perfectly cooked. It was a paneed veal topped with a crawfish and shrimp cream sauce. There was so much shrimp and crawfish that you practically couldn't see the veal and that's a good thing. We ended with a cannoli, compliments of Eduardo. It was perfectly crispy but so creamy on the inside. Topped with crunchy pistachios and 1/2 cherries on each end. This restaurant is a New Orleans staple! No tourist traps at all. This is where all the locals go to get a fabulous Italian meal! Ambiance is lightly lit with true Italian vibes and music!! Don't skip Venezias....you will never be disappointed!! read more

Venezia is one of my favorite places to take large groups to for a great time. They have incredible pizza, Italian, and steaks. You feel like you are in someone's Sicilian grandmother's home when you are there. Our server, Ace, took care of us as if we were royalty and Alberto is a gracious host. This was one of the worst dining experiences we've ever had, and it was heartbreaking because Venezia used to be a family tradition for us. We waited almost 2.5 hours to receive our food. Service was chaotic from the start. Our waiter seemed overwhelmed and constantly running--at times it felt like he was also cooking. He never really spoke to us and we repeatedly had to get up and search for him just to ask basic questions or request items. When the food finally arrived, it came out cold, staggered, and incomplete. Not all dishes were served at the same time, and my son still hadn't received his meal even after we had been served--over 2.5 hours after sitting down. Several menu issues were unacceptable: * They were out of veal chops when we sat down around 5:45 pm * Pasta was not served with the main dishes and only arrived after I specifically asked--well after the entrees had already been on the table * The dishes looked completely different from what Venezia used to serve and from what we expected The food itself was shocking: * The veal pontchartrain looked like slop * The shrimp scampi looked like a strange Alfredo mixture with large chunks of uncooked tomatoes * The fish almondine looked wrong, had a strange sauce, and again--no pasta (this used to be trout almondine) * Pizzas were actually good, but one arrived cold, they came out at different times, and we weren't offered cheese or pepper We also had to ask repeatedly for drinks, which added to the frustration. Our entire family was shocked--not just by the long wait, but by how unrecognizable the food and service were compared to the Venezia we've gone to every year as a tradition. Dishes felt rushed and almost thrown onto the table. Nothing about this experience was pleasant. What happened to Venezia? Sadly, we will never return. read more

I had such a delicious filet last January at Venezia's. It was so delicious that when my sister asked me what I wanted on my birthday, I was so excited to say I wanted that same yummy steak from Venezia! We ordered stuffed mushrooms for the appetizer. It was just ok, too much breading in my opinion. Then the waiter comes out to say they had no more filets. Disappointment was an understatement. Then he came back it and said they have a smaller filet like the ones they serve on steak nights. Great that will be fine. This was truly a Foodie's dream come true in many ways. This is when you could not ask for anything better. You first walk into a decor and style of Italian old school restaurants of your childhood. The host in a ports coat, servers in traditional white shirt and tie. Even the the decor of the tables, red & white checkered with white butcher paper and with the room split in half and a very comfortable bar in the rear. Server immediately arrives after being seated and we are off with a bottle of Caymus Cabernet Sauvignon very reasonably priced. Fried Eggplant Sticks & red sauce, Baked Artichoke Hearts and Garlic Bread all full of flavor and fresh. Now the main course, I have been in Italian restaurants from Italy to Thailand. Hole in the wall mom & pop to silver service. And between myself and two well traveled foodie friends. We have never experienced anything close to the Veal Pontchartrain. This was a panne veal topped with lump crabmeat, mushrooms, artichoke hearts and lemon butter sauce. Served with pasta and red sauce.(We all ordered the same thing and instead of red sauce we all elected Angel hair in olive oil & Garlic. The flavors of this dish left all of us speechless. None of us had experienced the flavor profile of the perfectly prepared veal and the flavors of its accompanying sauces and crab meat. We took a group of friends here last night and it was an amazing meal and experience! The atmosphere was great and everything was set up for our 11 person table in the back in a special more private area. Our server Ace was very good and attentive the whole night, and the owner was personable and checked on us several times during the night to make sure everything was going well! All of the food and drinks we ordered were 100% authentic Italian like it came from my Italian grandma's kitchen. Lasagna, fish dishes, pasta, cannolis were so good! Will definitely be back. The food here probably used to range from a 2 to 3 star depending on what you got but they have really improved and have gotten up to a solid 3 and 4 star average on my last visits. The worst thing I ever ate here back before Hurricane Katrina was a seafood lasagna that was so bad I couldn't eat more than a few bites of it. The regular lasagna, manicotti, spaghetti, eggplant dishes, and parmesan dishes are usually good. They currently have the best cannelloni in town to my taste. They generally have decent pizza and even better pasta. The best thing about this place is that you typically get good value and large portions so you will definitely never go away hungry after a meal here, however, you should save some room for dessert at nearby Brocato's after. Venezia is a family owned Italian restaurant that has been around since 1957. And when you are there you truly feel that you are in someone's home. Nick, Tammy and so many others were so inviting and made you feel so welcome. They have so many regulars and generations of families that have been coming and I can see why! D.A.G. A New Orleans institution? I think not. Saturday night reservations for 16 at 6PM. No problem with that part. I got there at 5:15 as I took an uber from Mandeville. Got to the bar where there were two open seats. A gentleman was there ordering drinks for his wife and a younger couple seated on the bench where you wait for your table. As the gentleman completed his transaction, I stepped up to take one of the opened seats to have a couple of cocktails while waiting on the rest of my party to arrive. As I pulled the barstool back I was asked if I were eating at the bar, it was the manager that asked. I politely said no, I'm going to have a couple drinks while I wait on the rest of my party to arrive. She immediately said to me those two spots were reserved for someone who is going to eat and that had to wait along the wall. My first words were, if they were reserved, why ask me if I were going to eat. If they were reserved, that's what you should have lead off with. So we exchanged some words back and forth about the situation. I relented and a young couple were given the two seats. While waiting along the wall I overheard that the young man that was seated in one of those two stools was the owner's cousin. So it immediately hit me that I was booted from the bar for reasons of privilege and nepotism. A few moments later the manager came and offered to buy me a drink, for as she described it "a misunderstanding". I politely refused the drink and told her it was not a misunderstanding, it was a disservice to a customer and a favor to the owners cousin. I also stated I will not be back to either of their establishments in the future. Just this morning Monday, July 28, 2025 in our usual pre-work week meeting, I've instructed my salesmen that Venezia was not to be used for any entertaining of our clients. The meal is another story. Two in my party had different veal dishes, both stated that the veal was tough as leather. I had Shrimp Scampi that was covered in so much sauce, the pasta was not visible unless you scooped it up with the grade school cutlery that is provided. My Scampi was awful, and I let the manager know about it on the way out and showed her my plate that had at least, 6 oz of sauce remaining. She offered to take it off the bill. I said no, I came here to eat and drink with family and ended up getting lied to and disrespected at the bar. I said I'm not here to eat for free. I expected to pay for what I ordered and I expected it to be good, not slop. And yes I did call it slop. Because that's what my dish visually looked like. One couple ordered a pizza that was cold and the toppings were sparsely spread over pizza. 3 others had various dishes calling for marinara sauce. What they described getting was like something out of a jar. My brother got one of the fish dishes, the fish was overcooked and dry. He was disappointed and is, or was a staunch supporter of this restaurant, but was very disappointed in this experience. Appetizers were good. There were number of them ordered and shared amongst the table along with two Italian salads. The waitress that served us did a fantastic job attending to our needs. As we had people ordering different cocktails, bottles of wine and beer. We did wait a lengthy time to get the second or third round of our favorite beverages brought out. But that's on the BAR TENDERS. I stress this, because there were only 2 at a restaurant that is slammed on Friday and Saturday nights. 1 works the bar primarily and will assist with table orders if able to. The other takes drink orders from the table service staff, and, also takes phone orders. Seems a third bartender should be brought in on Friday and Saturday nights. Ask me, and I'll say slow bar service could potentially cost you any where from 1.5 to 3 cocktails per person on average for slow bar service. That's a lot of dollars leaving the establishment instead of going into the cash register. We here often with parties if 10 or more. In fact our last consisted of 18 and 16. They've lost me personally as a customer, as well as my company's entertainment dollars. A few in my party have shared their thoughts and will not return.
