Every ting irie!!! This place is amazing!!! I've spent many years in Florida eating Jamaican cuisine. I have to say this place is the best place I've had in the DMV (((5 stars for best Jamaican food in the area))). This is my second time I went to Ire Carribean to pick up some lunch and let me tell you, it was amazing. This time they had the ox tail and I order a combo with curry goat, rice and beans, cabbage, and plantains. If anyone can eat this whole combo, you definitely have a big appetite. The portions are very generous. Make sure you give yourself 10-15 to receive your food during lunch because it can get busy at times. The food is very favorful and most importantly, very delicious. Ok so here's the deal. The food is just ok, because it is not consistent! The first time the oxtails were really good. So was the chicken curry and the jerk chicken. The next time we went they mixed the cabbage into the oxtails!!!!! The jerk was meh...Only discovered it when we got home and was a 25min drive, was not prepared to drive back The last few times the food was just meh ... I love love this place. I always get the jerk chicken. It's ALWAYS so juicy and well seasoned. It is spicy but it's so good. The staff is so nice and I am pretty sure it's family ran which is nice. It is a little pricey but they give you huge portions so it's always nice to have left overs. I really love this place. It's a delicious Jamaican eatery in Woodbridge. You can't order to go over the phone though. You have to come in to do so. And I've only eaten inside place a few time but it's pretty much a to go place. You order. Get a number. Wait for your number to be called and once it is, you get your food and sit and eat. Then leave. You aren't served on. Just a forewarning in case please really want a full service restaurant. I've been here a dozen times because it's conveniently located within walking distance of my house. The food is decent but sometimes hit or miss. The customer service on the other hand is terrible. The young lady at the register is very unprofessional and the online ordering system sucks. For example, apparently if you place an order after 6:30 pm it will not be ready until the next day even though they close at 8 pm. You can on the other hand walk in at 7:30pm and order in person which is probably the dumbest thing I've ever heard. The subpar customer service alone is enough for me to never come back. read more

Second time, LAST TIME!!!! In my first review of this place I harped on the lack of service yet the food was good. I revoke that last statement today. I went back for takeout during the lunch hours. My wife ordered the stew chicken and I order the curry chicken roti. My food was disgusting. And that is saying a lot. The roti wrap, for one, was not a wrap at all. They simply took a roti skin, placed it in a container, and put 4 pieces of watery 'curried' chicken on top and placed the sides over it. I am not sure how you can make curry chicken taste bland, but they managed. I also did not enjoy the fact that the chicken they placed in the wrap was full of bones and twigs from their 'spices'. My other experiences with carribean themed restaurants is mainly in the Toronto area, but they were much much better. I should not have to pick the bones out of my roti in order to eat it. To top off this awful experience my wife called the restaurant to complain about the food, only to get cussed out by whoever answered the phone in defense of their crappy food. "I dont know what kind of carribean food you are expecting, I have been doing this for 10 years!!!" This placed should have been shut down 10 years ago. This place used to be so good years prior, but the food quality went down. It took nearly an hour for my overcooked curry shrimp to be ready and it wasn't even worth the wait. It had no flavor, the cabbage lacked flavor as well I was so disappointed. The only thing they cooked right were the plantains that came with my order. Imagine being a jamaican spot with no beef patties? There's sadly no more redeeming qualities about this place. Stopped in here on a suggestion from a colleague and it did not disappoint. Man was the jerk chicken on point. The spice was full of flavor and hot just enough to clear up the nares. I like spice so it was super hot but just right in my opinion. Wow, this little gem is hidden in the nook of the shopping center with Gabe's in it off Route 1 in Woodbridge. The neighborhood and the area isn't the best but its well worth the trip if you want some good island food. It was a great amount of food for the price. I couldn't even try to eat it all. My co-workers did though. LOL. I wasn't expecting fried plantains but when I took my first bite, I just inhaled the rest of it. The chicken fell off the bones. So good and juicy. I thought the price for the amount of food was a good deal. As far as the decor and such, it is Woodbridge so I'll leave it at that. I have been twice, both for ox tail. While waiting I have a spicy meat patty and a Ting. The first time I went it before lunch time so ordering was a breeze. Small oxtail to try it out, it was good. Not just taste wise but the portion was nice too. Next visit, I upgraded to the large size. The reason this place is only 4 stars is because you can only call in seafood orders! What logic is that? So I drive like a fool to get there and there's a line. I spent my entire lunch break going, ordering, waiting, and coming back. Oxtail is not Jeep friendly eating. So I've tried Irie a few times. This was my first time getting the jerk chicken. It was good, not too spicy. The one complaint that I has was that once I got my food (takeout order) I found the longest piece of hair intertwined in my plantain. I was thoroughly disgusted. The chicken and the veggies that I purchased were fine though. I will give them another try, and got through it with a fine tooth comb before I leave the premises. On the other hand, my husband's food was good. He is Trinidadian, and he knows Caribbean cuisine. This place isnt bad, the customer service has gotten way better from the last time I came here. I enjoy Caribbean grub and usually a carry out in a shopping center doesn't do it justice but much to my hesitation I was surprised! As most of the places in the DC metro area the beef patties are good (because they aren't home made they are bought from a good distributor) but the jerk chicken, curry and oxtail all good. The food : very good ! Full of flavor and they have a decent menu of options . I always get a beef patty on the side . Customer Service : the staff aren't over the top friendly but they aren't rude either. They will explain the menu to you and give suggestions but nothing over the top. I have never dine in I always get my good to go . They do not over fill the plates so if you are hungry a small plate won't do the trick. I ordered the curried goat, rice and peas, plantains, and a mild beef patty. The food is authentic. The curry was very tender with just enough spice. The cabbage was a little bland. The plantains were sweet and tender. The beef patty was tender, moist and stuffed full. I am elated that Irie is here. I have to force myself not to come here every other day. Mamma was in the kitchen and daughter was at the register. My order came out in a few minutes. There were a few people that ordered ahead of me. The dining room was super clean. As a Jamaican I was thrilled to find this place. I live in Alexandria and it was well worth the drive. I was there on a Saturday so I was able to get the calaloo platter with rice and beans, plantains, and cabbage, and a Ting to wash it down. It was delicious. Not as great as what my grandmother makes but a close second. I came with my girlfriend who had never had Caribbean food before but she loved her platter as well. She got the oxtail and curry goat combo with rice and beans and cabbage. We ordered takeout and the food did not take too long to be ready despite it being pretty busy. The service we received was great and I appreciated all the TVs we had to entertain us while we waited. We'll definitely be coming back, perhaps to dine in next time.
